Abstract

Abstract Oxidative stress results from an imbalance between the production and neutralization of reactive oxygen species. It induces oxidative damage to cellular components including proteins, lipids, nucleic acids, and membranes, therefore intrinsically linking to aging‐related diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, and neurological disorders. Emerging evidence suggests that oxidative stress may promote tumor development by influencing various aspects of cellular senescence, such as its onset, pro‐inflammatory secretion, and alteration of cellular function and structure. Modulating oxidative stress to target cellular senescence offers a novel strategy for cancer prevention and treatment. However, a thorough grasp of the specific mechanisms at play is lacking. This review will present the association between oxidative stress and cellular senescence and their regulatory role in tumor progression and treatment, with emphasis on senescence‐associated secretory phenotype, immunosenescence and therapy‐induced senescence. Current agents and strategies that remove side effects of cellular senescence via killing senescent cancer cells or modulating oxidative stress to improve antitumor efficacy will be summarized. This review will help readers better understand the complex relationship between oxidative stress and senescence in cancer, and will also provide a basis for further research in this area.

11. Mapping State Proficiency Standards onto the NAEP Scales: Results from the 2019 NAEP Reading and Mathematics Assessments. NCES 2021-036

Abstract

The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) has periodically published reports using results from the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) to compare the proficiency standards that states set for their students. Since standards vary across states, the results of the various state assessments cannot be used to directly compare students' progress. However, by placing a state standard onto the NAEP scale, a common metric for all states, a NAEP equivalent score is produced, which can be compared across states. The last mapping study report released by NCES (NCES 2019-040) compared state proficiency standards for school year 2016-17. The current report highlights the results of mapping state proficiency standards onto the NAEP scales using state assessment results from the 2018-19 school year and the 2019 NAEP assessments for public schools. Abstract

It is crucial for social sustainability that adolescents have access to social sports services fairly. However, there are few research studies on requirements for sports facilities and spatial accessibility of adolescents at a fine scale. Further, identifying the heterogeneity of the relationship between spatial accessibility and other factors and their scales simultaneously would be conducive to reveal the variations of spatial accessibility effectively under the potential scale effect. This research aims to explore the heterogeneity of spatial accessibility to sports facilities at a fine scale in Changsha, China. The Gaussian-based two-step floating catchment area model is first employed to evaluate spatial accessibility. Then, multiscale geographically weighted regression (MGWR) is applied to examine the relationship between spatial accessibility and its associated factors. The mean accessibility in Yuelu District (0.158) is the highest as well, and the standard deviation (0.236) is also the highest one. Both the accessibility (0.019) and its standard derivation (0.029) in Furong District are the lowest. The results show that there is a lack of balance of spatial accessibility for the clusters with different accessibility levels distributed in the study area. Some socio-economic factors, such as housing price and nighttime light intensity, have significant impacts on spatial accessibility for adolescents with spatial and scale heterogeneity by using MGWR. Based on heterogeneous distribution and association, suggestions for promoting spatial accessibility to sports facilities for adolescents are proposed.

The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) has periodically published reports using results from the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) to compare the proficiency standards states set for their students. Since standards vary across states, the results of the various state assessments cannot be used to directly compare students' progress. However, by placing a state standard onto the NAEP scale, a common metric for all states, a NAEP equivalent score of that standard is produced, which can be compared across states. The 2017 edition of this report highlights the results of mapping state proficiency standards onto the NAEP scales using state assessment results from the 2016-17 school year and the 2017 NAEP assessments for public schools. The study focuses on the reading and mathematics standards that states set for grades 4 and 8. For each state, the report displays the NAEP equivalent scores with a range of 0 to 500. Abstract

Piezoelectric damping composites with excellent damping properties were prepared from carbon black (CB), lead magnesium niobate (PMN), epoxy resin, and polyether amine D-400. The tanδ{\rm{\tan }}\delta area (TA) analysis method is used to evaluate the leading factors of damping enhancement. This method clearly shows the influence of the maximum loss factor (tanδ{\rm{\tan }}\delta max) and effective damping temperature range on damping performance, and the damping enhancement factors are quantitatively analyzed by TA values. When CB content is less than 8 wt%, viscoelastic damping and frictional energy dissipation are the main factors affecting polymer properties. When CB content reaches 8 wt%, the conductive network gradually forms, and the electric energy generated by PMN through the piezoelectric effect is dissipated by the conductive network, and the piezoelectric effect of PMN becomes the dominant factor. In this case, the maximum tanδ\tan \delta max and TA values of the composite are 1.93 and 27.58, respectively. The damping contribution of PMN and CB reaches 40.21% and 34.41%, respectively.
