In this article submitted for publication, the authors analyze and study the issues related to the provision of quality and timely free legal aid under martial law. The methodological basis of the study is a system of general scientific methods that provide an objective analysis and evaluation of the subject under study. The authors believe that it is now necessary to popularize free legal aid more, not only in the media, but also to attract the attention of public organizations and charitable foundations, in particular those engaged in providing assistance to internally displaced persons, since they understand better than anyone how difficult it is to live and work under martial law. In our opinion, it is advisable to revise the Law of Ukraine «On Free Legal Aid» and pay attention to the communities and regions located near the front line, because people living in such areas need much more support and attention from the state. The authors also emphasize that young people should be involved in the work of free primary and secondary care centers, and internship programs should be organized so that people really trust free aid and understand that free aid does not mean low-quality. We also consider it appropriate to note that the crucial issue of providing quality and timely assistance, in terms of free aid, has become even more urgent and painful for a significant number of our citizens under martial law. The problems of physical impossibility not only to receive legal aid, but also to access justice have been added to the existing problems. This problem has been exacerbated by the temporary occupation of the territories, the destruction of court buildings and the relocation of courts and law enforcement agencies to other regions. This study examines the impact of governance on the efficiency of nonprofit organizations and the relationship among different governance mechanisms. Using a dataset of 3496 Chinese foundations from 2011 to 2015, we find that internal governance, external donor governance, and external governance environment are significantly and positively associated with foundations' efficiency. Importantly, substitutional relationships exist among these governance mechanisms. Financial reporting quality is a major channel through which governance influences efficiency. Furthermore, the positive association between governance and efficiency is more pronounced for small foundations than for large ones and for noneducation‐focused foundations than for education‐focused ones. This study offers practical guidance for foundations to improve their efficiency by enhancing both internal and external governance and will be of interest to foundation leaders, donors, and policymakers. The WHO Eastern Mediterranean region (EMR) is characterised by highly economically diverse countries, with healthcare systems in various phases of development. Childhood cancer care provision also ranges from that provided in centres able to deliver sophisticated therapy resulting in outcomes comparable to those seen in highly developed nations, to countries with no provision for care of children with cancer. At 10·1 per 100,000 children at risk, the age standardised incidence-rate for cancer in children below 14 years of age is relatively low but may be consequent to poor registration. Shortages in trained care providers were identified in many regional countries, particularly in low and lower-middle income countries, however, implementation of training programs are beginning to counter this deficit. Significant diversity in patient care capacity exists in the region, leading to inequitable access to quality paediatric oncology care. There is strong potential for regional collaboration towards infrastructure and capacity improvement, with facilities available within the EMR for twinning and educational support to those centres and countries that need them. While cancer care coverage is available to citizens of high-income countries, in the lower-income countries out-of-pocket health expenditure can reach 75%. Some relief is achieved through the contribution of multiple charitable foundations working to support childhood cancer care in the region, as well as the provision of care in, often overburdened, public sector hospitals. War and other geo-political turmoil, as well as natural disasters, have negatively impacted healthcare capacity, including childhood cancer care, in several regional countries. Despite all this, the trajectory for change is upward and initiatives such as the WHO Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer are igniting positive change. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Rationale/Purpose: Charitable foundations constitute the prime mechanism for the implementation of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in sport. The relationship between the charitable foundation and the founding professional team sport organization (PTSO) is unique. Although extant research has shown that trust can be an instrumental predictor of organizational performance, we know little of the role of its main component, namely trustworthiness, in the context of CSR implementation through charitable foundations. Design/Methodology/Approach: Drawing on the UK's football setting, an online survey (n = 124) was used to measure (through CFA and SEM and SPSS AMOS 21) the perceived trustworthiness of charitable foundation employees by their counterparts in PTSOs, and their perceived contribution to the PTSO's performance. Findings: Findings reveal PTSO's employees perceive their counterparts in the foundations as being trustworthy and that their CSR activities contribute to the PTSO's performance. Trustworthiness is a key predictor of the perception that the implementation of CSR-related initiatives through foundations contribute to the perceived performance of the PTSO. Practical implications: Managers should facilitate trustworthy behavior between PTSOs' employees and their counterparts in the foundations. The competence and predictability of employees of the foundation should be enhanced. This qualitative study uses Bourdieu's sociology of practice to help understand how different actors in football consider 'unhealthy' sponsorships (defined as promoting gambling, food and drink high in fat, sugar or salt (HFSS), and alcohol) in the English Premier League. Eighteen informants were interviewed including those employed by football clubs and their charitable foundations, others with a commercial interest in the football industry, and members of fan organisations. Their responses were examined using a thematic approach and reflected the distribution of economic and cultural power between the agents in the field of football. Tensions within these fields of power are illustrated diagrammatically between those in possession of economic capital (the clubs), and those who protect the cultural capital of 'their' clubs (the fans). We analyze the impact of women on corporate boards of directors on product quality. We innovate firstly by integrating the broad but fragmented research on the topic, offering a first simultaneously testing of a larger set of variables identified to be significant in earlier studies. Second, we add alternative indicators of female representation in board of directors as a potential determinant of product quality. Third, we use evaluation scores of goods by the nonprofit foundation "Stiftung Warentest" as a quality indicator, thus adding to a regionally diversified evidence. With its global popularity, football wields immense power to drive positive social change. This unique position elevates football clubs to the role of key stakeholders within the non-profit sector, often referred to as the "third sector." Recognizing this potential, many clubs have established charitable foundations that harness the power of football to address social issues. This study delves into the social service initiatives undertaken by foundations affiliated with English Premier League clubs. We meticulously examined the clubs' social service practices, utilizing MAXQDA software for in-depth analysis. The analysis revealed that these foundations primarily focus on crucial areas such as healthcare, education, employment opportunities, social inclusion, and social welfare. Notably, they leverage football as a tool to generate positive impact in each of these areas. These findings demonstrate the significant potential of football club foundations to deliver impactful and sustainable social interventions through the power of sport. School dropout is associated with numerous detrimental consequences including prolonged unemployment, poverty, a wide range of psychological and physical health problems, and premature mortality. As such, designing and implementing interventions to prevent school dropout and ensure successful school completion is crucial. The purpose of the current study was to conduct a longitudinal realist evaluation to understand how, and under which circumstances, a multi-component intervention delivered through the charitable foundation of a professional sports team may impact the developmental outcomes of disengaged students. The intervention comprised one-to-one mentoring, classroom-based learning, sport and physical activity. Participant observations and fifty-two interviews were conducted with teachers and students over a ten-month period to form context-mechanism-outcome configurations (CMOCs) and to refine initial programme theories. The CMOCs developed highlighted the importance of students developing healthy conflict resolution skills and emotional regulation strategies, the potential of sporting content to re-ignite interest in academic learning, the powerful effects of deviant peer contagion, the synergistic impact of a multi-component intervention, and the role of pre-existing and ongoing contextual factors in determining whether interventions can create sustainable and lasting desirable outcomes among students. Background and objectives: In today’s urbanized world, the preservation of the environment and urban green spaces has become a major concern for citizens and governments worldwide. This study aims to emphasize the importance of non- governmental organizations (NGOs) and charitable foundations in the reforestation and afforestation of vegetation cover. Using a comparative approach, the study examines global and Iranian experiences and evidence, and reviews executive and functional records in the field of natural environments, vegetation, and green spaces through library surveys, internet research, and inquiries made to domestic and foreign institutions and organizations. Methodology: This study introduces some of the most significant charitable foundations and NGOs in the field of nature and environmental protection worldwide. These organizations, mainly based in the United States and England, have completed their education and entered the stage of implementing initiatives for the restoration of local forests, world forests, forestry, environmental protection, increasing biodiversity, climate change, and other related topics. Additionally, the study examines the forest reforestation and afforestation goals and implementation methods of the most important charitable foundations in countries similar to Iran, including Armenia, Turkey, and Lebanon, as well as different countries such as China, South Korea, Norway, Germany, Brazil, and Canada. The study also describes the activities of internal organizations such as Nature, Pama, Roostagol Varjin, and Algan, and analyzes their significant actions and measures taken. Finally, the role of certain charities that have taken action in restoring and developing vegetation in the country is discussed. Results: The results of this study showed that among the countries similar to Iran, the “Tema” Institute in Turkey, with a 30- year history at the national and international levels, has carried out significant activities in the fields of forest restoration, education, climate studies, and biodiversity. Among different countries, the “Terra” Institute of Brazil has also undertaken important measures in the fields of reforestation, wildlife return, and vegetation restoration, aiming to restore the region’s forests, environment, and promote sustainable rural development over a period of 20 years. Among domestic institutions, Roostagol Varjin has made a significant contribution to the reforestation and afforestation of vegetation and urban green spaces. All these institutions and foundations share common goals in their field of activity, and through the support and participation of these groups together, the great goal of vegetation reforestation and afforestation can be realized. Therefore, it is not possible to determine which activity is superior; all of them are necessary in society. In fact, for the development of this task globally and even within a country, we need a powerful society, and a powerful society requires the participation of more people, and the grounds for this participation must be provided. Conclusion: To improve the status and activities of NGOs, several measures can be taken, including providing information and training, strengthening environmental advertisements on radio and television, expressing environmental problems, and providing banking and legal facilities for these organizations. Additionally, introducing native species for planting in each region, empowering local communities, establishing research units and experts in the field of reforestation and afforestation, and promoting communication between NGOs, donors, and the government are the most important management measures for restoring and developing vegetation at the national level. The article discusses the prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in patients with lupus nephritis (LN), emphasizing the importance of recognizing CKD in clinical management to prolong kidney survival. Various factors contribute to the prevalence rates of CKD in LN patients, with differences observed between Caucasian and Asian populations. The article in Clinical & Experimental Allergy explores the potential role of basophil activating factors in serum in relation to the 'nonreleaser' basophil status observed in the basophil activation test (BAT). The study suggests that a basophil-specific self-activating mechanism from the patient's own serum may be responsible for the 'nonreleaser' state. This article uses two case studies, a charitable foundation that provided dowries to orphans as well as efforts to fundraise for a convent for Indigenous women, to explore how philanthropy functioned in late colonial Oaxaca, Mexico. I argue that in both cases, gendered rhetoric proved essential for constructing compelling reasons for wealthy individuals to donate money. Additionally, both projects were intrinsically connected with material culture--ranging from the physical accoutrements of the lottery drawing to choose a dowry winner, to the geographic location and building structure of the convent. The organizational effectiveness of nonprofit organizations (NPOs) has received considerable attention from the scientific research community and society. Nonprofit scholars call for more empirical research that tests existing theories and develops multidimensional frameworks at the organizational level, with a focus on actual management practices. Previous studies have suggested that a broad set of management practices at the program and organizational levels have positive implications for the perceived effectiveness of NPOs. This study evaluates and refines a conceptual model of the antecedents of organizational effectiveness and validates its applicability in the context of charitable foundations established by corporations. Based on survey data from their executive leaders, this study's empirical findings suggest that perceived organizational effectiveness is less affected by a broad set of management practices and is driven by a few selected best practices that focus on specific stakeholder groups (i.e., experts). Moreover, the results show that certain organizational characteristics, such as organizational experience, can strengthen the perceived effectiveness of charitable foundations. Overall, the results of this study may help nonprofit executive leaders to better understand that a careful selection and implementation of specific practices might be more beneficial for an organization's effectiveness than an extensive list of practices. Moreover, this study contributes on a broader theoretical level to the study of multidimensional frameworks as a suitable measure for identifying key antecedents of leader-perceived organizational effectiveness across different types of NPOs. Purpose: There has been limited research on why football clubs contribute to charity. This paper examines how football clubs and their charitable conduits report information when discussing their connectedness. In addition, it explores reasons why, and the extent to which, football clubs support altruism via such charitable vehicles. Design/methodology/approach: Case studies of four major football teams (Manchester City/Manchester United in England and AC Milan/Inter Milan in Italy) are discussed, with formal reports of the clubs and their associated charitable conduits being analysed. Findings: Boundaries between the clubs and their charitable conduits are frequently blurred. Evidence suggests that acknowledging the co-existence of different factors may help to understand what is reported by these organisations and address some of the caveats in terms of autonomy and probity of their activities and reporting practices. Research limitations/implications: The research uses case studies of four major 'powerhouses' of the game and their associated charitable spinoffs. While this is innovative and novel, expanding the research to investigate more clubs and their charitable endeavours would allow greater generalisations. Practical implications: The study provides material that can be used to reflect on the very topical subject of 'sportswashing'. This has the potential to input to deliberations relating to the future governance of the game. Originality/value: The paper explores relationships between businesses and charities/nonprofits in a sector so far little investigated from a charitable accountability perspective. BACKGROUND. Accurate detection of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is a major challenge in the management of patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HCT). Here, we demonstrated the use of circulating cell-free DNA (cfDNA) for detection of tissue turnover and chronic GVHD (cGVHD) in specific organs. METHODS. We established a cocktail of tissue-specific DNA methylation markers and used it to determine the concentration of cfDNA molecules derived from the liver, skin, lungs, colon, and specific immune cells in 101 patients undergoing HCT. RESULTS. Patients with active cGVHD showed elevated concentrations of cfDNA, as well as tissue-specific methylation markers that agreed with clinical scores. Strikingly, transplanted patients with no clinical symptoms had abnormally high levels of tissue-specific markers, suggesting hidden tissue turnover even in the absence of evident clinical pathology. An integrative model taking into account total cfDNA concentration, monocyte/macrophage cfDNA levels and alanine transaminase was able to correctly identify GVHD with a specificity of 86% and precision of 89% (AUC of 0.8). CONCLUSION. cfDNA markers can be used for the detection of cGVHD, opening a window into underlying tissue dynamics in patients that receive allogeneic stem cell transplants. FUNDING. This research adopts a resource dependency approach to support the process of social innovation application within the context of nonprofit resource procurement using a comparative sample of resource-providing organizations (n = 8) and nonprofit resource recipients (n = 10). An organizational discourse analysis was adopted to explore concepts of power and legitimacy across groups revealing several ways that social innovation is employed and challenged by both resource recipients and providers. Further, a text coverage analysis revealed several discrepancies with the use of terminology between sub-samples. Together, these novel analytical approaches provide a narrative regarding the ways in which social innovation is co-conceptualized within nonprofit resource provision, including examining the role of language and power between stakeholder groups. The article discusses the concept of left-brain bias and its impact on our understanding of science, philosophy, religion, and climate action. The author explains that the left brain tends to focus on narrow, static parts and jumps to conclusions with unwarranted certainty, while the right brain has a better grasp of reality as a whole and is more comfortable with uncertainty and complexity. The author argues that this left-brain bias is hindering our ability to protect and restore the planet, as it leads to an overemphasis on metrics and a reductionist view of nature. The author suggests that bridging the gap between the Western corporate view and the holistic view of indigenous communities is crucial for achieving sustainable and ethical practices. The article underscores the conceptual nexus of diaspora and soft power. It analyses US soft power, its main operating mechanisms and tools, and the role of diaspora groups in the transfer of American values, using Armenia and the Armenian-American diaspora community as a case study. The paper argues that ethnic diaspora groups are increasingly important actors of soft power. Along with protecting and promoting the national interests of their country of origin, ethnic diaspora groups play a unique role in promoting the host country's soft power by establishing links and enhancing mutual understanding between both societies and states and providing the transfer and network for the host country's values and ideals abroad. The article highlights the role of the Armenian diaspora political parties, the Armenian-American sociopolitical and lobbying organisations, and the activities of prominent Armenian Americans and their charitable foundations in the spread of American values and ideals, and the advancement of American soft power in Armenia. The Global South has increasingly become a recurring research agenda, often originating in the Global North. There is a need to understand what these research agendas consist of and what role Latin America and the Caribbean play in defining and/or reproducing them. The purpose of this study is to understand the agendas of the Global South supported by northern agencies, based on a methodological proposal that combines lexicometric analysis of abstracts, grant data-based content analysis on scientific production, and funding data. The study identified four central agendas in the literature: (1) State role and the strength of non-western countries cooperation; (2) Decolonial research, citizen, and feminist perspectives; (3) Academic Collaboration and Education in circuits of science production and (4) Developmentalism in underdeveloped Global South countries. We identified different types of northern organizations, such as non-departmental public bodies, philanthropic and charitable foundations, guiding an agenda based on precariousness, poverty, and underdevelopment, while Latin America and the Caribbean reinforce an agenda taking the South as an example that can be applied in the North. We highlight an emergence of a multipolar world and the need to strengthen research in Latin America and the Caribbean in this context. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper identifies a new discourse about tourism, that of final wish making. The website communications of charitable foundations whose dedicated purpose is to grant final wishes for adults with a terminal illness and their families were examined using critical discourse analysis. Specifically, the aim of this study was to understand how these charitable organisations construct, communicate and mediate meanings around terminal illness and travel for these individuals. Our study found that, promoted as a final wish in one's life, tourism is framed as a transformational concept that is beneficial in the imminent time before death, as a legacy for life, and after death. Our analysis indicated implications around the memory-making potential of tourism and the differential power relations between final wish organisers and vulnerable individuals with a terminal illness. The paper calls for further research exploring the marginalisation of the terminally ill through tourism, but equally the potential of tourism to include the most vulnerable tourists in their final days. Public administration as an academic discipline provides nonprofit students with a foundation of public values essential to the preparation of capable public servants. The faculty in the Department of Public Administration at University of North Texas have been supportive of the department's new undergraduate Nonprofit Leadership Studies degree and bring with them a blend of academic backgrounds and interdisciplinary and intersectoral perspectives to our approach to a nonprofit education. Our relatively new nonprofit degree is built on four overarching values: passion, participation, professionalism, and performance. Our use of the 4-P approach adopts the instrumental and the expressive assumptions from Frumkin's (2002) framework to construct our own framework for designing and critiquing our curriculum in the Nonprofit Leadership Studies degree. Students learn that nonprofits are important collaborators with government, the private sector, and with the community as they seek out innovative solutions to complex social issues. How are political elites embedded in both civil and political domains? I studied 246 Chinese political elites who also served on nonprofit foundations' boards from 2011 to 2015 and conceptualized a framework to understand the state-nonprofit relationship before 2015. The political elites can build horizontal connections with foundations, helping the party-state reach nonprofit actors. They can also build vertical connections with political groups, helping foundations access political resources. The dual-role elites' connectedness with foundations and in the polity varies by their primary positions in the political system. Effective communication between the state and nonprofit actors requires elites to have strong connections in both the civil and political domains, but the situation in China is far from ideal—those embedded in foundations are disconnected from the polity, and those connected in the polity are marginalized in foundations. What can the municipal state do to radically transform urban economies? Local government in countries such as the UK has been historically tasked with delivering public services; rarely extending its remit to economic development, let alone community‐led forms promoting economic democracy, at least not since 1980s municipal socialism. But times are changing, and the UK case provides some telling examples of what is now possible. Community wealth building, cooperative development and foundational economy approaches are fast gaining traction in municipalities across the UK, through emergent public‐common‐philanthropic partnerships with progressive think tanks, cooperative development agencies, community enterprises, foundations and charitable trusts. This article explores complexifying relations between the state, the cooperative movement and the non‐profit industrial complex in the pursuit of sustainable and generative economic development as playing out differently in urban policy experiments in the English cities of Preston and Plymouth. The article contributes to current debates on local state restructuring, municipal statecraft and urban entrepreneurialism by critically comparing these place‐based variegations of municipal‐cooperative development with previous waves, and with more financialised and extractivist forms of statecraft, drawing out implications for praxis. MAR projects have various benefits, including improving water quality and increasing water supply. The article gives examples of MAR project costs and financing options, such as loans from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) and the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF). Given the increased social and strategic value of corporate philanthropy (CP) in businesses, a growing number of corporations have established associated corporate foundations to institutionalize and formalize their CP. Notably, CP has been channeled through team charitable foundations in professional sport, which are corporate foundations closely tied to their parent teams while having own (quasi) independent governance structure. However, these corporate foundations have received less scholarly attention. The study explores the relationship between corporate foundation governance and organizational performance in the context of professional sport. Specifically, this study focuses on how board structural characteristics, such as board size and board diversity, and board leadership, such as board chair affiliation with the parent team and the presence of a paid executive director, influence the team foundation's total received contributions. To empirically test our hypotheses, the study used longitudinal data of financial and personnel information of team foundations in the United States from 2011 to 2017. The results show that the team foundations with a larger board and paid executive director generate more significant revenues (received from contributions, grants, and gifts). During the pandemic, the federal government and Canadian foundations were challenged to increase their financial support for the struggling nonprofit sector. The federal government allocated hundreds of millions of dollars almost immediately after the onset of the pandemic; however, concerns arose that private sector philanthropy was not contributing enough, especially given the burgeoning fortunes of many Canadian foundations in the previous ten years. The federal disbursement quota--the annual amount foundations were required by law to spend each year--became the lightning rod for this debate. Federal government consultations in 2021 and 2022 allowed legal experts, nonprofits, foundations and other interested parties to provide input into how much they believed the disbursement quota should be, as well as whether the funds should flow more broadly to nonprofits that did not have legal charitable status (otherwise known as nonqualified donees). In Canada, many smaller nonprofits as well as many Indigenous-led and Black-led nonprofits have resisted charitable registration, given the cost and onerous administrative requirements placed upon charities by the Canada Revenue Agency. In 2023 the federal government increased the annual disbursement quota for foundations from 3.5% to 5% and permitted foundations to fund non-qualified donees. While these legislative changes shifted more responsibility onto Canadian foundations to support the charitable sector and may result in better support for Indigenous and Black-led nonprofits in Canada, it has yet to be seen how these changes will play out in practice as a result of stringent bureaucratic interpretations of the law. Professional athletes are increasingly engaged in social impact efforts via charitable endeavors. Despite seemingly good intentions in these efforts, the media's representation of athlete philanthropy varies widely. This study examines how discourses of athlete charity are represented in U.S. media coverage. Over 100 newspaper articles were obtained for the period of 2005–2017. The authors conducted a qualitative analysis which consisted of attribute coding for basic article characteristics, identification of both framing and reasoning devices, and deductive coding to identify generic media frames. The authors present an adapted frame matrix highlighting the salient frames in media coverage of athlete philanthropy. Our results show that athlete charitable efforts are related to a personal or emotional connection or linked to an economic perspective around philanthropy. A third frame reflected a moral underpinning to athletes' charitable work. The article "Dissecting the Neurovascular Unit in Human Diabetic Retinal Disease" published in Diabetes explores the relationship between microvascular and neurodegenerative aspects of diabetic retinal disease (DRD) in postmortem human retinas. The study found that microvascular defects in the deep capillary plexus of the retina can occur independently of other vascular lesions, and neural cell degeneration is not necessarily connected to microvascular lesions. The COVID-19 pandemic and the consequent need to socially distance has prompted nonprofits to rely more on their institutional websites to reach donors and seek financial support. In this study, we use qualitative comparative analysis to explore which different combinations of information on organizational profile, governance, performance, and finances are deemed most suitable by Italian community foundations to encourage charitable giving. The results highlight two different paths, suggesting that organizational profile, performance, and governance information matter most to Italian community foundations for retaining donors and donations, or attracting new ones, whereas financial information is not considered relevant for designing effective online disclosure. Drawing on recent ethnographic research at a temple-based Buddhist charitable foundation in mainland China, this study joins recent scholarship that questions an understanding of karma as a solely individual soteriological enterprise. It shows how both volunteers and paid staff at the charitable foundation, many of whom were practicing Buddhists, focused on helping both people and other sentient beings as soteriological goals in their own right apart from a consideration of individual karmic benefit. Inspired by environmental awareness, this soteriological orientation saw the karmic fate of all beings as inextricably bound together, an orientation we can refer to as universal karma. The essay deals with the donation activities of Jewish people in the Franconian area during the 18th century. Helping those in need was an integral part of religious practice. Donations to co-religionists as well as to Christian institutions and individuals can be proven regularly. The five charitable foundations, which were set up by wealthy members of the Bamberg rural Jewish community, also served the purpose of maintaining the memory of the founder and his family in the long term. With the proceeds from the foundation capital, scholarships were financed and needy relatives supported. They represented important references for the family members, who often lived scattered. Thus had an effect of forming a Common identity. This placebo-controlled, randomized trial, conducted at 12 clinical sites in Brazil, sought to determine whether the combined effect of both drugs would increase treatment effects. Background: Previous trials have demonstrated the effects of fluvoxamine alone and inhaled budesonide alone for prevention of disease progression among outpatients with COVID-19. Objective: To determine whether the combination of fluvoxamine and inhaled budesonide would increase treatment effects in a highly vaccinated population. Design: Randomized, placebo-controlled, adaptive platform trial. (ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT04727424) Setting: 12 clinical sites in Brazil. Participants: Symptomatic adults with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection and a known risk factor for progression to severe disease. Intervention: Patients were randomly assigned to either fluvoxamine (100 mg twice daily for 10 days) plus inhaled budesonide (800 mcg twice daily for 10 days) or matching placebos. Measurements: The primary outcome was a composite of emergency setting retention for COVID-19 for more than 6 hours, hospitalization, and/or suspected complications due to clinical progression of COVID-19 within 28 days of randomization. Secondary outcomes included health care attendance (defined as hospitalization for any cause or emergency department visit lasting >6 hours), time to hospitalization, mortality, patient-reported outcomes, and adverse drug reactions. Results: Randomization occurred from 15 January to 6 July 2022. A total of 738 participants were allocated to oral fluvoxamine plus inhaled budesonide, and 738 received placebo. The proportion of patients observed in an emergency setting for COVID-19 for more than 6 hours or hospitalized due to COVID-19 was lower in the treatment group than the placebo group (1.8% [95% credible interval {CrI}, 1.1% to 3.0%] vs. 3.7% [95% CrI, 2.5% to 5.3%]; relative risk, 0.50 [95% CrI, 0.25 to 0.92]), with a probability of superiority of 98.7%. No relative effects were found between groups for any of the secondary outcomes. More adverse events occurred in the intervention group than the placebo group, but no important differences between the groups were detected. Limitation: Low event rate overall, consistent with contemporary trials in vaccinated populations. Conclusion: Treatment with oral fluvoxamine plus inhaled budesonide among high-risk outpatients with early COVID-19 reduced the incidence of severe disease requiring advanced care. Summary: In 2013, a project to reintroduce Cypripedium calceolus in the Swiss Jura was organised between the Swiss Orchid Foundation at the Herbarium of Jany Renz, Basel, Switzerland and Anthura B.V., Bleiswijk, Holland with the approval of the Nature Conservation authorities of nine cantons in the Swiss Jura. Seed was legally collected from sites in the nine cantons and was successfully grown to flowering size by the commercial nursery in the Netherlands. Three thousand flowering sized plants were successfully reintroduced to 43 sites in the summer of 2018. Monitoring in successive years has shown a success rate of over 50% and much higher in some sites. The successful collaboration of conservation authorities, a charitable foundation (Swiss Orchid Foundation) and a commercial company (Anthura B.V.) in the conservation of an endangered plant might serve as a model of how other projects might be run. This paper examines whether and how foreign institutional donors play a monitoring role in the nonprofit sector. By analyzing 2567 Chinese nonprofit foundations from 2005 to 2014, we find that foundations with foreign institutional donors are associated with higher quality reporting. The effect is more pronounced for nonprofit foundations without established monitors in the form of large domestic donors, sophisticated donors, or national government oversight. These findings suggest that foreign institutional donors are indeed good monitors. Our results are robust to a myriad of alternative specifications and make important first steps in understanding the impact of foreign institutional donors in international giving, especially in developing countries. Objectives: The purpose of the study was to explore information behaviour and information literacy in the group of the charitable foundation beneficiaries, their attitudes, choices, and behaviour regarding particularly COVID-19 information. Methods: Two series of quantitative CAPI studies were carried out. The first consisted of basic questions about access and preferences related to information sources. The other was explicitly related to COVID-19 pandemic information. Basic statistical descriptive measures and chi-square tests of independencewere used in the analysis. Results: Poverty and the concept of small worlds seem to be a specific living context of vulnerable groups. Information flow is based mainly on personal sources. Their searches for pandemic information did not differ significantly from everyday behaviours. The respondents felt fatigued with information about the pandemic dominating the media and informal discussions. In relation to previous studies, we see similar behaviours and competencies levels indicating information poverty, although differences in source preferences are also observed. Volunteers appear to have a limited informative role concerning the COVID-19 pandemic compared to other studies of people in crisis. Originality: Information behaviour patterns of the studied group indicate new tasks for caregivers in terms of provision of information and development of information skills, in particular in health or life-threatening circumstances. The present research aims to identify the role of social institutions and the role of Saudi social institutions through entrepreneurship in community development according to Vision 2030. It is divided into two topics: the first topic: is the research plan which includes: the introduction, the problem of research, the importance of research, concepts, and terms. At a time of sociocultural changes that started questioning established Islamic learning traditions (independence years, post-Cold War/book market liberalization), printing diasporas exerted influence on the circulation of Islamic texts in East Africa: published overseas (Cairo, Beirut, and the Indian subcontinent) and/or locally reprinted on the Swahili-speaking Islamic coast, they came to play a seminal role in negotiating Swahili Muslim literary culture. How have transoceanic religious and intellectual networks operating beyond national borders become intertwined? In this paper, the beginnings of Swahili Muslim book publishing—and the entities underpinning it, such as Nairobi's Islamic Foundation Center, a Pakistani-oriented charitable foundation—will be outlined. I will then delve into the history of Indian-and-Swahili family-run publishers Adam Traders based in Mombasa in order to tackle hitherto neglected transoceanic connections and patterns of influence across the sea. Storytelling can enhance stakeholder engagement and support the implementation of the World Health Organization and Pan American Health Organization's (PAHO) Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer, which aims to improve care globally for children with cancer. The Initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, addressing health, education, inequalities and international collaboration. This report describes the design and implementation of a workshop that used storytelling through film to encourage stakeholders in national cancer control plans to engage with the Initiative in its focal countries in Central America, the Dominican Republic and Haiti. A six-step process was used to develop the virtual workshop hosted by PAHO: (i) define the audience; (ii) define the goals of storytelling; (iii) build an appropriate storyline, including choosing a platform and content, and addressing group dynamics and the length of the film; (iv) guide the workshop's design and implementation with current theoretical frameworks, including the Socioecological Model of Health and the Theory of Change; (v) design interactive group exercises; and (vi) disseminate workshop results. The skills-building component of the day-long workshop included 80 representatives from eight countries in the Region of the Americas, with participants representing pediatric oncology, hospital administration, ministries of health, nonprofit foundations, the scientific community and public health organizations. Outputs from the workshop included (i) a summary report, (ii) an empathy word cloud with live reactions from participants, (iii) qualitative responses (i.e. quotes from participants), (iv) stakeholders' analyses and (v) a prioritization matrix for country-level strategic activities that could be undertaken to strengthen health systems when caring for children with cancer. The workshop used storytelling through film to try to reduce health inequalities and have a regional impact. Combining art, public health and medicine, the workshop created positive change by sharing real-life experiences. Commitment was fostered among stakeholders through their engagement with the workshop, which aimed to increase their awareness of the need and advocacy to improve health systems and enhance access to health care for this vulnerable population. This short introduction prefaces an ENDS special issue devoted to the topic of "interreligious founding", whose contributions stem from an online workshop held April 8th–9th, 2021. This workshop was planned as a continuation of the dialogue on charitable foundations held between experts of various academic disciplines in Tokyo (2019) and Singapore (2020). As a result of discussions begun at these venues, it has become apparent that the scholarship on endowments, which has unfolded to the greatest extent within Medieval Studies and therefore with the context of the medieval Latin West foremost in mind, has not adequately addressed the phenomenon of interreligious patronage, that is the participation in foundation activities by persons of different religious traditions. While corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities are well-established among football clubs, COVID-19 challenged clubs' capacity and commitment to continue delivering in times of crisis. Focusing on Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) Premiership clubs and their charitable foundations, we examined challenges presented by restrictions and limited resources and how these impacted the decision making of CSR managers, as well as their prioritisation of projects undertaken. Qualitative research methods were applied in a two-step process. A content analysis drawing on publicly available resources provided a holistic overview of the CSR landscape in Scottish football. Subsequent semi-structured interviews with CSR managers of four clubs' foundations offered detailed insights into crisis response. We found that resource limitations resulted primarily in operational rather than financial difficulties. To remain functional and consistent with their motives, foundations initiated new ways to address target groups' social needs. Specifically, delivery shifted towards direct help and short-term support. While foundations continued to benefit from being associated with the parent football club, autonomy from the club was a critical success factor intensifying stakeholder relationships and community links. COVID-19-related disruptive factors resulted in more rapid decision making and greater empowerment of operational staff. Lessons learned have potential implications for CSR management post-pandemic. Bujie Du, a professor at South China University of Technology, recently published her first article as a corresponding author in Angewandte Chemie. Her research focuses on renal clearable materials, nanomedicine, gold nanoparticles, nano-bio interactions, and biomedical imaging. She was inspired by the role of hepatic biotransformation on the in vivo transport of protein-bound nanoparticles and investigated whether renal-clearable, strongly protein-resistant nanoparticles would also be biotransformed in the body. Neuropathologic criteria for progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) proposed by a National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) working group were published in 1994 and based on the presence of neurofibrillary tangles in basal ganglia and brainstem. These criteria did not stipulate detection methods or incorporate glial tau pathology. In this study, a group of 14 expert neuropathologists scored digital slides from 10 brain regions stained with hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) and phosphorylated tau (AT8) immunohistochemistry. The cases included 15 typical and atypical PSP cases and 10 other tauopathies. Blinded to clinical and neuropathological information, raters provided a categorical diagnosis (PSP or not-PSP) based upon provisional criteria that required neurofibrillary tangles or pretangles in two of three regions (substantia nigra, subthalamic nucleus, globus pallidus) and tufted astrocytes in one of two regions (peri-Rolandic cortices, putamen). The criteria showed high sensitivity (0.97) and specificity (0.91), as well as almost perfect inter-rater reliability for diagnosing PSP and differentiating it from other tauopathies (Fleiss kappa 0.826). Most cases (17/25) had 100% agreement across all 14 raters. The Rainwater Charitable Foundation criteria for the neuropathologic diagnosis of PSP feature a simplified diagnostic algorithm based on phosphorylated tau immunohistochemistry and incorporate tufted astrocytes as an essential diagnostic feature.
