Garter snakes in the genus Thamnophis from Mexico have a long and convoluted taxonomic history. From 2015 to 2022, we conducted a comprehensive sampling of Mexican Thamnophis species, aiming to link molecular phylogenies with the recognized species related to T. scalaris in the highlands of Mexico. Here, we present an analysis of mitochondrial DNA to resolve the status of two enigmatic highland Thamnophis populations. Our research resulted in the identification and morphological characterization of a previously undescribed Thamnophis species from the state of Jalisco in western Mexico. We also clarify the identity and relationships of several previously enigmatic populations of Thamnophis. This work presents new data for Thamnophis phylogenetics from the Mexican highlands and offers a framework for future conservation efforts.

We describe a new species of Eleutherodactylus (subgenus Syrrhophus) from Guerrero, Mexico, based on morphological and molecular data, as well as advertisement call analysis. Eleutherodactylus franzi sp. nov. has unique features including widely expanded fingertips, indistinct, but visible lumbo-inguinal glands, an immaculate white venter and dark reticulations on a cream dorsal background colouration. The new species belongs to the Eleutherodactylus nitidus species group. Eleutherodactylus franzi sp. nov. is micro-endemic, restricted to a small range in karstic hillsides on the southern extreme of the Mexican Transverse Ranges. We discuss conservation needs of this species, which we provisionally classify as Critically Endangered.

We describe a new saxicolous species of Lepidophyma from the Sierra Madre Oriental, in the state of Tamaulipas, Mexico and provide morphological and molecular data to support the novelty of this species. The new species is most closely related to members of the L. sylvaticum group; however; it is a flattened form specialised for a saxicolous lifestyle and it can be distinguished from all other members by a combination of meristic characters. Genetic analysis suggests that several populations of L. sylvaticum might represent additional novel taxa, while the validity of L. micropholis is questioned. We discuss conservation priorities of the new species.

An exploratory study to determine the effectiveness of discussion sessions as a teaching strategy of Thermodynamics in Basic Physical Chemistry of fundamental concepts in this area as spontaneity by explaining students according to their ideas. A previously validated questionnaire was used as an instrument on Thermochemistry, Enthalpies of Bonding, and Gibbs Function. The performance of the students who participated in the intervention was compared with that of a control group to which the afore mentioned teaching strategy was not applied. The students of the intervened group explained with a higher academic level the concept of spontaneity than those of the control group reaching the level of the development of the process of effective chemical reasoning (DECRP) of the taxonomy of Barrow and Bloom.

We describe two new species of Tropidodipsas related to the T. fasciata species group as defined by Kofron (1987), and provide morphological and molecular data to support the novelty of both species. A partial molecular phylogeny of the Mexican species of snail-eating snakes (Serpentes, Dipsadidae) is presented, and we discuss evolutionary relationships as supported by our molecular results. We analyze specific relationships of the new species described herein with their closest relatives. We present a distribution map for all species of Tropidodipsas and include photographs of living individuals of each species. Finally, we discuss other taxonomic changes based on our molecular phylogeny as well as conservation priorities of the new species.

En el Concilio Vaticano II, la Sagrada Escritura logró un protagonismo inusitado en la Iglesia y en la vida de los creyentes en Latinoamérica y el Caribe. ¿Cómo impactó en el continente?, ¿cuáles fueron los efectos de la interpretación de la Biblia en la región? Un repaso de prácticas usuales llevadas a cabo antes del Concilio, cuando la Biblia se usó para legitimar el “derecho” a la conquista del Nuevo Mundo, como el examen de la actual diversificación hermenéutica, creadora de nuevos horizontes de lectura que permiten al lector aprehender perspectivas insospechadas, suscitadas por la apropiación de la Escritura Sagrada en la Iglesia, donde se asoman los rostros y las voces silenciadas en largos siglos de olvido. Este recorrido lleva al lector por el método de interpretación textual de los evangelizadores de varias épocas; por el acceso al texto para su lectura e interpretación y por la teología subyacente.

With the aim of improving the teaching and learning of chemistry functional groups, a didactic strategy was designed based on real-life situations. This strategy was used at the high school level, in the subject of “Chemistry II.” One group of students was taught functional groups using interactive board software through different dynamics (experimental group), and another group was taught traditionally (control group). Learning was evaluated through a series of questions, exercise solving, and scientific problems. Results indicate that the group of students in which the interactive board software was used achieved higher learning levels in comparison to the control group, which was traditionally taught.

Se describe el tratamiento de aguas en el laboratorio de docencia, el cual utiliza la investigación como principio didáctico para la caracterización física y química de un efluente denominado nejayote, generado en el proceso de nixtamalización del maíz y que contiene materia orgánica. Los alumnos determinaron la cantidad de sólidos totales y la dureza debida a calcio y magnesio por espectrofotometría de absorción atómica. La degradación de contaminantes se realizó por electrocoagulación, con electrodos de aluminio, y por oxidación de Fenton utilizando peróxido de hidrógeno y luz UV. El parámetro evaluado, como indicador de eficiencia de la degradación de la materia orgánica, fue la demanda química de oxígeno (DQO). Se concluye que con el análisis, caracterización y tratamiento del nejayote el alumno adquirió competencias y habilidades al utilizar la investigación como principio didáctico para la resolución de problemas de tratamiento de aguas del ámbito profesional.

Visamos aqui problematizar as diferentes concepções de pobreza e "questão social" na tradição liberal, e suas formas típicas de enfrentamento, no contexto do liberalismo clássico, no século XIX, do keynesianismo, no século XX, e do neoliberalismo, a partir da atual crise do capital. Com isto, oferecemos uma reflexão sobre aspectos para uma caracterização histórico-crítica de pobreza e "questão social". Finalmente, procuramos problematizar os caminhos para a busca de diminuição da desigualdade social, mediante políticas compensatórias no contexto atual.We aim at questioning the various concepts of poverty and "social issue" in the liberal tradition, and their typical ways of confrontation, in the context of the classical liberalism in the ­nineteenth century, of the keynesianism, in the twentieth century and of the neo-liberalism from the current crisis of the capital. Doing so, we offer a reflection concerning aspects related to a historical and critical characterization of poverty and "social issue". Finally, we question the ways of reducing social inequality, through compensatory policy in the current context.

O artigo visa apresentar a sistematização dos dados sobre pós-graduação e pesquisa nos países hispano-americanos, a partir de documentos apresentados em dois eventos latino-americanos de pós-graduação. O objetivo é estimular a articulação, os convênios e o intercâmbio entre as unidades de ensino brasileiras e as dos demais países do subcontinente latino-americano.This article presents the systematization of data on postgraduation and research in Spanish American countries Such systematization was done from documents submitted in two Latin American postgraduation events. The goal is to stimulate the joint ventures, the agreements and the exchanges among Brazilian and other Latin American colleges.

En este ensayo queremos problematizar las diferentes concepciones de la pobreza y la «cuestión social» oriundas de la tradición liberal, y las formas típicas de su abordaje y combate en los contextos del liberalismo clásico del siglo XIX, del keynesianismo en el siglo XX y del neoliberalismo a partir de la actual crisis del capital. En la actualidad, presentadas como visiones «alternativas», surgen con fuerza las corrientes teórico-políticas denominadas «tercera vía», «neo-desarrollistas» y «post-moderna ». Evaluaremos aquí estas perspectivas de formas de pensar en la pobreza y sus propuestas para afrontarlas, considerando si realmente son alternativas al neoliberalismo o complementarias y funcionales. Con ello, ofrecemos una reflexión sobre algunos aspectos que nos permiten caracterizar la pobreza y la «cuestión social» desde una perspectiva histórico-crítica.

As transformações sociais contemporâneas, operadas pela programática neoliberal sob o comando do capital financeiro, trazem novos desafios ao conjunto de cidadãos e de homens e mulheres que vivem da venda de sua força de trabalho. Os assistentes sociais, individual e coletivamente, não são alheios a esta realidade. A profissão já se caracterizou por enfrentar estes desafios, questionando e problematizando seu papel na sociedade, tentando assumir perfis mais críticos e comprometidos com os interesses dos trabalhadores e dos setores subalternos. Exemplo disso são o “Movimento de Reconceptualização” e a posterior tentativa de definir um “Serviço Social Alternativo” preocupado com o sentido de sua prática, com o processo de conhecimento crítico, com a crítica ao capitalismo e às situações de injustiça social. Os desafios atuais levam a, superando anteriores debilidades, construir coletivamente um projeto ético-político profissional que possa enfrentar com competência e compromisso, no interior das forças sociais progressistas, as condições nas quais vivem os trabalhadores (com e sem emprego) e os demais setores subalternos.

When the voltage source is not balanced for three-phase four-wire circuits, instantaneous compensation for the instantaneous reactive power does not eliminate the neutral current on the source side. In fact, when the zero-phase voltage of the source exists, none of the present compensation strategies can guarantee the instantaneous elimination of the neutral current in three-phase four-wire systems. Two approaches are distinguished in this paper for instantaneous compensation. The first eliminates the instantaneous reactive current, thus neutral current can still flow. The second eliminates the instantaneous pseudo-reactive current, so that the neutral current component is compensated. In the latter case, a new control strategy is designed to avoid instantaneous power flowing through the compensator. It provides flexibility in compensating for the neutral current in a three-phase four-wire system including the zero-sequence voltage. Finally, simulated and experimental results are obtained to confirm the theoretical properties and show the compensator performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

El trabajo consiste en describir el desarrollo de un esquema de capacitación de líderes co - munitarios. El enfoque de la formación está dirigido a la gestión de proyectos de incidencia en las comunidades, basándose en diagnósticos participativos. El taller de formación de líderes comunitarios fue desarrollado por la Comisión Nacional para Prevenir y Erradicar la Violencia contra las Mujeres (Conavim) en conjunto con la Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez y la Fundación del Empresariado Chihuahuense (Fechac) y se diseñó tomando en consideración el ambiente de crisis social y de seguridad por la que atravesó Ciudad Juárez, así como en las necesidades de capacitación de promotores sociales expresadas en el programa “Todos somos Juárez”.

Situada nas encostas do magnífico barranco de Cuajimalpa, na cidade de México, se levanta o conjunto habitacional “Cañada Vistahermosa”, que supera as expectativas da área onde se localiza, fundindo-se com a natureza e brincando em suas fachadas com diferentes volumes e terraços. Essa atitude de projeto cria um interessante jogo de luzes e sombras que lembra a definição da arquitetura de Le Corbusier, que afirmava que era “o jogo sábio, glorioso e magnífico de volumes sob a luz do sol” (Vers une architecture, 1923), o que aumenta o poder simbólico do conjunto e enfatiza sua relação com o entorno.
