Social mindfulness entails the consideration of the interests of others while respecting their autonomy. Although long-term group identity generates in-group favoritism in social mindfulness decisions, the effect of temporary group identity on social mindfulness remains to be validated. This study examined this effect by recruiting a convenience sample of 74 adolescents from a youth basketball club, who were randomly assigned to either an in-group or out-group decision-making condition. A basketball game scenario was used to establish temporary group identities, referencing the Minimal Group paradigm for grouping while applying the SoMi paradigm in a real-world context. The results showed that adolescents exhibited higher social mindfulness (χ2 = 22.774, df = 1, p < 0.001) and preference-adjusted social mindfulness (χ2 = 6.861, df = 1, p < 0.01) toward in-group compared to out-group members. Conversely, they displayed higher levels of preference-adjusted social hostility toward out-group members (χ2 = 11.291, df = 1, p < 0.01). These findings suggest that even temporary group identities, formed in a sports setting, can lead to intergroup bias in adolescents' social decision-making, promoting goodwill toward the in-group while restricting the autonomy of out-group members. In basketball, successful performance relies on the optimal use of top-down strategic guidance by coaches and bottom-up adjustments by players, requiring a preparation plan consistent with match demands. The aim of this study was to analyze the strategic-tactical tendencies between a basketball team's preparation and match performance phases for a U16 men's national team during a continental tournament. The team was composed by 12 players (aged 16 ± 0.4) with at least three years of participation in basketball competitions. Data from team strategy (the playbook), team practices, and match performance were integrated through a common set of variables in a decision support framework, the Team Learning Cycle (TLC). The influence of situational variables with respect to preparation and match performance consistency and efficiency was also investigated. The preparation phase significantly emphasized small-sided games focused on group-tactics-based attacks, combining offense and defense, usually in the set offense. During the matches, the set offense was also significantly prioritized. The frequency of group-tactics-based attacks increased relative to team plays from the group phase to the elimination phase (p < 0.05). Efficiency generally improved during close matches, suggesting successful team strategy learning and tactical autonomy from preparation to matches. Using consistency and efficiency together provided for an effective evaluation of a team's preparation-performance relationship. This evidence underscores the importance of sensitive monitoring methods for establishing accurate associations between preparation and performance. Coaches can use this systematic procedure to critically examine their use of preparation time relative to match performance. Additionally, basketball managers may find that TLC-related evidence supports evaluating coaches' multi-dimensional skills from a broader perspective than simply winning rates, offering a more objective and comprehensive assessment of coaching effectiveness. To compare the extent of home-court advantage (HA) and home win percentage (HW) based on sex and team ability in Spanish basketball leagues. Data from the first divisions of male and female basketball over 12 seasons (2010-2023) were analyzed. HA (%) was calculated as (total home wins/total wins) * 100 and HW (%) as (total home wins/total home games) * 100. Teams were categorized into higher-and lower-ability based on their season win percentage using cluster analyses. Mann-Whitney test was used to compare HA and HW between sexes and team ability clusters. Results showed that males exhibited higher HA and HW compared to females (p < 0.05). Additionally, males had higher HA than females within both higher- and lower-ability teams (p < 0.05) and higher HW only within lower-ability teams (p < 0.001). Lower-ability teams had higher HA than higher-ability teams (p < 0.001). while higher-ability teams had higher HW (p < 0.001). These findings suggest that team sex and ability significantly influence HA and HW effects in Spanish basketball leagues. Female teams demonstrate a more even distribution of wins between home and away venues, while lower-ability teams rely more on home games for wins. This study examines the impact of status inconsistency on status-threatening activities within NCAA Division I men's basketball teams. Specifically, we focus on a nested form of status that includes both individual and group-level elements. We argue that organizations dealing with status inconsistency stemming from such nested form face challenges in reducing status inconsistency. To maintain their deserved status, these status-inconsistent organizations tend to avoid activities that could further threaten their status, despite potential economic gains. An analysis of NCAA Division I men's basketball scheduling data from 2000 to 2019 provides robust support to our theoretical arguments. Our findings suggest that the status inconsistency between a team's status and its conference status diminished the likelihood of scheduling games with non-Division I teams, a behavior considered counter-normative in this context. This effect is most prominent among teams in "Mid Major" conferences, while teams with recent participation in the NCAA Tournament show a mitigated effect. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With innovative portable force plate systems being widely implemented for lower-body neuromuscular performance assessment in an applied sports setting and the existing gap in the scientific literature regarding player performance during in-game competitive scenarios, the purpose of the present study was to compare changes in countermovement vertical jump (CVJ) performance pre-post a simulated 3×3 basketball tournament. Seven current or former members of a 3×3 national basketball team volunteered to participate in the present investigation. Upon completing standardized warm-up procedures, athletes stepped on a uni-axial force plate system sampling at 1,000 Hz and performed three maximal-effort CVJs with no arm swing. Then, the athletes proceeded to play a simulated 3×3 basketball tournament composed of two consecutive games, separated by a 15-min rest interval. Immediately following the completion of the second game, the identical CVJ testing procedures were repeated. Paired sample t-tests were used to examine prepost-tournament differences in nineteen CVJ performance metrics (p < 0.05). The results reveal that force-time metrics during both eccentric and concentric phases of the CVJ remain relatively unchanged pre-post simulated 3×3 basketball tournament. However, multiple force-time metrics within the eccentric phase of the CVJ changed by 12.1%-19.1% (e.g., eccentric peak power and peak velocity, eccentric duration), suggesting that the eccentric phase of CVJ might be responsive to performance stimulus to a greater extent than the concentric phase. This analysis is the first study to examine an emergent wagering market: the Calcutta auction. Participants in Calcutta auctions bid for entrants that compete to earn a pre-determined percentage of an unknown total pot size. Utilizing 13-year data from an in-person Calcutta auction of NCAA men's basketball tournament teams, evidence exists of a traditional favourite-longshot bias, of lower overall returns existing for teams in the middle of the team quality distribution and of auction participants being unable to correctly identify (through higher bids) teams that ultimately win more games after their quality is taken into account. AbstractWheelchair basketball, regulated by the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation, is a sport designed for individuals with physical disabilities. This article presents a data-driven tool that effectively determines optimal team lineups based on past performance data and metrics for player effectiveness. Our proposed methodology involves combining a Bayesian longitudinal model with an integer linear problem to optimize the lineup of a wheelchair basketball team. To illustrate our approach, we use real data from a team competing in the Rollstuhlbasketball Bundesliga, namely the Doneck Dolphins Trier. We consider three distinct performance metrics for each player and incorporate uncertainty from the posterior predictive distribution of the longitudinal model into the optimization process. The results demonstrate the tool’s ability to select the most suitable team compositions and to calculate posterior probabilities of several players playing together in the best composition. This study evaluates the effectiveness of the eight weeks of training for defensive rebounding upon the performance of male basketball players at Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. One of the most critical elements in the game of basketball is that of defensive rebounding. It controls the outcome of the game by not allowing opponents to get many scoring opportunities. The study involved a pre-test and post-test design with three participants selected from the university's basketball team. The design of the program was to increase vertical jump height and general rebounding technique. The results showed improvements in rebounding performance for all subjects. There was a very marked improvement in average two-point shooting accuracy from pre-test to post-test subjects moved from about 25% to 30% of accuracy. The overall result was significant, in that statistical analysis established a positive significant difference between the pre- and post-training tests. These findings prove that, with focused and intensive training programs, basketball skills can be improved even at the university athlete level. The research supplements the literature of skill development in basketball and lays a base for further research on such training intervention projects to improve game performance. Over the past few decades, psychological resilience has been defined as the role of the mental process in protecting the individual from negative things or stress. Research discovered a wide range of stressors that sports players face in the field of sports. These stressors are linked with the competitive sports performance of athletes, the organization within which athletes function and some non-sporting factors. As athletes experience many stressors during sports performance, researchers discovered the psychological resilience in players to understand why some athletes withstand or thrive on these stressors. The research study is based on primary data analysis to determine the data used smart PLS software and generate results, including descriptive statistics, correlation coefficient analysis and smart PLS Algorithm model between them. Earlier studies demonstrated that athletes' poor performance highly depends on psychological resilience. In one study, it was demonstrated how basketball teams optimistic and pessimistic players recover from failure. The result showed that optimistic players were more confident, less nervous, and performed better than pessimistic players. In an additional study, it was checked that how three factors; confidence, societal support and managing skills affect the performance of national championship swimmers. Overall, the result found that psychological resilience directly and significantly affects mental health outcomes in professional athletes. The results showed that the swimmers who were able to bounce after failure had more confidence but less social support than swimmers who were not able to bounce back and had social support. This study aimed to determine changes in defensive strategies over the past decade in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and identify the most crucial factors for winning games. The study analyzed all games where the 30 NBA teams played over 11 seasons (13,530 games) and created outcome statistics based on win–loss records. Five defensive variables (OREB [offensive rebound], DREB [defensive rebound], TREB [total rebound], ST [steal] and BLK [block]) were compared, revealing that OREB (p < 0.03), DREB (p < 0.001), TREB (p < 0.001), ST (p < 0.001) and BLK (p < 0.001) occur significantly in winning teams. Also, it has been observed that the changes over the years in the variables OREB (p < 0.01), DREB (p < 0.01), TREB (p < 0.01) and ST (p < 0.01) are statistically significant. However, there was no significant difference in the BLK variable over the years (p = 0.24). The impact of defensive variables on winning and their factor loadings are as follows: DREB (λ = 0.50), ST (λ = 0.15), TREB (λ = 0.10), BLK (λ = 0.08) and OREB (λ = 0.06). In this article, Poisson time series models are considered to describe the number of field goals made by a basketball team or player at both the game (within-season) and the minute (within-game) level. The model is endowed with a doubly self-exciting structure, following the INGARCH(1,1) specification. To estimate the model at the within-game level, a divide-and-conquer procedure is carried out under a Bayesian framework. Then, we perform a clustering of the players in terms of their similarity according to the corresponding posterior distributions of key model parameters. This study examined the fourth quarters in the close games in the regular NBA games in the last decade, ranging from the 2013-14 season to the 2022-2023 season. A close game is categorically defined by a scenario where the point differential is confined within a 10-point margin at the onset of the fourth quarter and narrows further to a 5-point disparity by the end of the game. In total, 2,295 close games were identified in this study. Advanced game statistics, including offensive rate, defensive rate, assistance ratio, pace of game, and true shooting percentage, etc., are obtained from the NBA box scores using a python script. Understanding key factors that determine the outcome of the basketball games is critical, as such can be used to develop predictive models for coaches to design game strategies. This study developed a Bayesian Logistic Modeling approach to estimate the winning probability of a basketball team in the fourth quarter, using the pace of the last quarter and a team's shooting percentage. The accuracy of the model is used to evaluate if the model can correctly classify game outcome based on the identified game statistics in the fourth quarter of a game. The binary outcome of the close game is modeled as a Bernoulli distribution. Results reveal that the True Positive Rate and False Positive Rate is 0.93 and 0.07, respectively. Basketball clutch time is defined as minutes when the scoring margin is within 5 points with five or fewer minutes remaining in a game. Our aims were to explore the relations and to compare testosterone and cortisol behaviours, vertical jump (CMJ) and perceived exertion (RPE) between clutch time games (CT) and non-clutch time games (N-CT); during a season in an amateur male team (24.02 ± 3.36 years). Data was collected at 22 games considering CT (n = 8) or N-CT (n = 14) depending on the scoring margin with five or fewer minutes. A total of 120 player cases who participated in the last 5 min of each game (CT, n = 48; N-CT, n = 72) were analysed using a mixed linear model for repeated measures to compare the CT and N-CT variations. The main results were Cortisol, CMJ and RPE means turned out to be higher in CT, but relevant differences were only identified for RPE (ES = 0.69). Findings suggested that clutch performance was often viewed through players' subjective parameters. Consequently, we recommend that both players and coaches consider it for CT performance. Adding to research on team identification and well-being, inquiry into meaning in life and team identification could illuminate how sport fandom impacts consumers' lives. In the current study, an instrumental case study design was used to explore how team identification impacts meaning in life, focusing on significance. Participant diaries and interviews with identified fans of a professional women's basketball team revealed that connecting with family and friends, supporting women's sport, and enhancing mental health via support of the team were sources of significance in participants' lives. The findings illustrate that meaning in life is not necessarily experienced just from being a highly identified fan. Instead, specific elements of one's connection to the team provide meaning. The findings also highlight the importance of close relationships over imaginary intimate relationships, impacting social justice among fans of women's sport, and how mental health via fandom may provide older adults significance. Currently, basketball teams use inertial devices for monitoring external and internal workload demands during training and competitions. However, the intensity thresholds preset by device manufacturers are generic and not adapted for specific sports (e.g., basketball) and players' positions (e.g., guards, forwards, and centers). Using universal intensity thresholds may lead to failure in accurately capturing the true external load faced by players in different positions. Therefore, the present study aimed to identify external load demands based on playing positions and establish different intensity thresholds based on match demands in order to have specific reference values for teams belonging to the highest competitive level of Spanish basketball. Professional male players (n = 68) from the Spanish ACB league were monitored during preseason official games. Three specific positions were used to group the players: guards, forwards, and centers. Speed, accelerations, decelerations, impacts/min, and player load/min were collected via inertial devices. Two-step clustering and k-means clustering categorized load metrics into intensity zones for guards, forwards, and centers. Guards covered more distance at high speeds (12.72–17.50 km/h) than forwards and centers (p < 0.001). Centers experienced the most impacts/min (p < 0.001). Guards exhibited greater accelerations/decelerations, albeit mostly low magnitude (p < 0.001). K-means clustering allowed the setting of five zones revealing additional thresholds. All positions showed differences in threshold values (p < 0.001). The findings provide insights into potential disparities in the external load during competition and help establish position-specific intensity thresholds for optimal monitoring in basketball. Understanding the external load demands of basketball games is fundamental information for training planning and programming. However, there is a scarcity of information about external load during official games at high-level basketball. The purpose of this research was to investigate basketball game external load differences between two elite basketball teams involved in separate competitions. External load demands experienced by forty-six elite basketball players (from two teams) were analyzed using inertial devices during official basketball games. External load was expressed with calculated (PlayerLoad, PL, averaged and in different time epochs) and inertial movement analysis variables (acceleration, deceleration, change of direction and jump). The results showed that the Euroleague team had a higher peak PL in epochs of 30-s (p<.001) and 60-s (p=.02) with moderate and small effect sizes compared to the Eurocup team. The Eurocup team had a significantly higher number of low and moderate accelerations and changes of direction with effect sizes from 0.34 to 1.15. In conclusion, external load demands in basketball vary depending on the team and league therefore practitioners should consider the specific level and style of play when comprising a training plan. Furthermore, practitioners should rely on their own team's external load values for training load management, rather than attempting to adhere to standards established by external sources. This explorative study examines whether the involvement of different stakeholders in SouthEast European basketball team activities significantly correlates with two crucial constructs often reported to be predictors of well-functioning teams in interacting sports, namely trust and cohesion among team members, and discusses what might cause these relationships. The Group Environment Questionnaire and a four-dimensional “competence-benevolence-integrity-predictability” trust scale were used for a sample of 73 basketball clubs from South-Eastern Europe (559 athletes, 73 head coaches, 73 directors). Correlation analyses showed that team cohesion is in a negative relationship with the influence of media, while trust within teams positively correlates with the influence of professional athletes in team activities. The trust relationship between athletes and coach is weaker in the case of private sponsors’ interference, while the coach's trust in the athletes positively correlates with the influence of volunteers. These findings combined with the literature review show that in the context of post-transitional South-East European sport clubs’ higher level of professionalisation appears to make it easier to achieve trustworthy relationships and higher team cohesion, while an increase in private sponsors’ interference might impair the coach–athletes relationship. The study provides a robust quantitative starting point and a set of new research questions for further examination of the causality between stakeholder activities and sport team dynamics, whereas from a practical point of view it points to relationships in need of greater attention in the stakeholder management process. Purpose: Coaching is not necessarily among the world's most demanding jobs; however, this does not mean that anybody can be suitable to take the position without enjoying special skill, ability, knowledge, insight, qualification, and merit. The aim of this research is to identify the factors influential in the selection of the national basketball team coaches. Methods: This research is qualitative in nature and the method used for its conduction is based on a grounded theory with a systematic approach. The participants (n=28) in this study represented basketball experts, who were selected on purposive sampling with whom to reach saturation of data. The instrument for collection of data was the semi-structured interview The open, axial, and selective coding were used to analyze the data. To ensure that this research is discriminating, the researchers used the indices of credibility, transferability, trustworthiness, and confirmability. Results: This research showed 643 initial concepts, 142 secondary concepts, and 20 sub-categories, classified into the causative, contextual, intervening conditions, strategies and consequences. Conclusion: Reflecting on results of this research, it can be inferred that optimal use of workforce resources in the basketball sports, especially using the coaches, will not be possible in our endeavors to meet the goals without observing the exigencies of their selection. Therefore, the officials in charge of selecting national basketball team coaches are suggested to consider the factors identified in this research and put them on their agenda as the criteria for their selection. Objective: The purpose of the present study is to design of the economic valuation model of Iranian basketball clubs was a choice experiment approach. Methodology: This study is analytical and descriptive. The statistical population of the study included four groups of faculty members, club managers, coaches and experts, and, basketball veterans. Then, from each group according to the existing population, the sample was selected by a proportional distribution method. Therefore, in this study, 85 people were selected as a sample, which included 19 faculty members, 11 club managers, 23 coaches, and 32 basketball experts and veterans, respectively. For statistical analysis and also to present the proposed model of intangible assets of Iran Basketball Club, the Choice experiment test and conditional logit and STATA13 software were used. Results: The results of economic valuation showed six models for valuation. Based on comments provided by the experts, sport federation officials, and the basketball champion league, the fourth pattern was more practical than the other ones. The factor bearing the most amount of value in this pattern was related to the fans of a club with an acceptance inclination index of WTA: 2130673014 Tomans and the most amount of value for the inclination to pay indices was related to awarding one's shirt to the fans with WPT of 1984774741 Tomans. Conclusion: Considering the results of the present study, it is suggested that sports officials and champion leagues use the suggested model of nonmarket assets of basketball clubs. Summary: Sporting contests between communities actively engaged in societal struggle comprise an event I call "engaged acrimony." In these sporting contests, ideas of sport as promoting harmony get tested and often give way to demonstrations of vitriol that mirror actual relations. In this article, I discuss Lakota basketball teams from Pine Ridge Indian Reservation as they played against neighboring white teams, examining how their responses to racism were safely expressed within and around sporting events. I analyze two of the best‐known instances of engaged acrimony using Turner's sense of performance and Butler's theory of performativity. Aims: The aim was to translate and cross-culturally adapt the modified Short Questionnaire to Assess Health-enhancing physical activity (mSQUASH) into Turkish. Methods: The mSQUASH was translated into Turkish and backward-translation into Dutch was performed afterwards using the Beaton method. After the Turkish version was reviewed and revised by an expert committee that included translators, two patients and the research team a pre-final version was produced. The-pre final version then entered a field-test with cognitive debriefing in 10 patients with axSpA. The final result was the Turkish mSQUASH version. Results: The translation process went without difficulties. Small discrepancies were either resolved during the synthesis or expert consensus meetings. Mean (SD) time to complete the mSQUASH was 6.1 (2.4) minutes in field-test procedure. The cognitive debriefing showed that the items of the Turkish mSQUASH were clear, relevant, easy to understand and easy to complete. None of the patients reported that an important aspect of physical activity was missing from the questionnaire items. Patients raised the concern that not all sport examples were culturally suitable; tennis was replaced by volleyball and basketball after the cognitive debriefing, to make it more appropriate to the Turkish culture. Conclusion: The final Turkish version of the mSQUASH showed acceptable linguistic and field validity for use in both clinical practice and research. The quantification of the external load and internal load of professional players is of vital importance since it provides a great deal of information on the state of the physical condition of athletes during competition and training. The aim of the present study was to quantify the external load and internal load of the players of a first level team of the Spanish basketball league for two weeks corresponding to the pre-season 2022/2023. Seventeen load variables were analyzed and organized into kinematics external load, neuromuscular external load, and internal load. All variables were normalized to the same time unit (minute). For this purpose, all training sessions were monitored using inertial devices. The results show significant differences in the external load and internal load variables depending on the task performed and the specific position. Each type of task provokes different responses in the players, with Full Game situations producing the highest values in the kinematic external load variables (p < 0.05). The selection of each type of task must be adjusted to the physical and technical–tactical objective to be developed. Despite the general work carried out in the pre-season, the centers are the players who bear the greatest internal load in this period. Background: The psychological and physiological effects of music have become an attractive field of sports research in the past decade. Objectives: This study investigated the effect of classical music on two sports skills, agility and free throw shooting, in female basketball players. Methods: The study population consisted of all female basketball players on a team. From those who met the study criteria, 26 participants were randomly assigned to two groups: a control group (without classical music) and an experimental group (with classical music). The research variables were measured using pre-tests and post-tests. Independent t-test was used to test the research hypotheses. Results: The results of the statistical tests showed a significant difference in post-test scores between the experimental and control groups (P < .05). Sports brands and properties are using social media platforms to take a stand on controversial social issues. This paper draws on the concept of corporate social advocacy to examine how Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) teams used their social media platforms to communicate about social issues during the 2021 season. We conducted a thematic and semantic analysis of advocacy-related tweets to examine the communicative actions and salient issues across the teams' accounts. WNBA teams posted about racial justice, women's empowerment, and LGBTQ+ rights, which represent a shift in the WNBA's discursive promotional strategies. The findings of the study indicate that WNBA teams' use of social media to take a stand on social issues aligns with, and extends, conceptualizations of corporate social advocacy. Previous research has shown that narcissism is unrelated to job performance, yet this individual-level effect may be underestimating narcissism's wider influence on organizational performance. To assess this possibility, we draw on social exchange theory and the agency model of narcissism to investigate how team narcissism composition affects team coordination and performance. Our model was tested using game-level longitudinal data from National Basketball Association teams. Teams with higher mean and maximum levels of narcissism as well as higher narcissism members in core roles (i.e., central and influential roles) had poorer coordination and in turn performance than teams with lower levels. In addition, having higher team familiarity amplified the effects of narcissism for team mean and core role narcissism. The nature of the observed interaction, however, was surprising. Originally, we hypothesized that narcissism would lead to greater decrements in coordination as familiarity increased. Instead, we found that teams with higher mean and core role narcissism maintained the same levels of coordination over time, whereas teams with lower narcissism experienced improvements in coordination. Thus, team-level narcissism appears to prevent teams from capitalizing on normative coordination gains that occur as familiarity increases. Basketball and business organizations can be compared from various standpoints (organizational structure, type of teams, processes etc.). One such standpoint is regarding objective setting. By undergoing a literature review analysis on the topic of objective setting in basketball versus business organization, the author tried to answer the research question: "are there any differences in the way basketball and business organizations conduct their objective setting activities?" Considering this, the objective of this paper is to provide an insight into how objectives in basketball and business organizations are set, and if there are any similarities or differences in the way they conduct this activity. The results however, did not provide clear and sufficient information if there are any differences between how objectives are set and communicated in basketball versus business organizations. Furthermore, a simple literature review like this one cannot provide a clear answer to the research question, as the necessary information regarding objective setting in basketball organizations is, in most cases, not public or easily identifiable. Moreover, the author was not able to identify research on the topic of how exactly basketball organizations set their objectives or what criteria they take into consideration when setting these objectives. This proves the fact that topics like how basketball organization set their objectives for each season or what criteria they take into consideration when undergoing this activity could be considered relevant for a future and more detailed qualitative/quantitative research having as target group: basketball teams that play in the Euroleague/Romanian National Basketball League. The aim of this research is to examine the emotional intelligence and sportsmanship behavior levels of student athletes who take part in the girls and boys basketball teams competing in the star and junior category in the basketball semi-finals organized by the Turkish School Sports Federation within the scope of school sports. In the research, it is envisaged that suggestions will be made for planning emotional intelligence training to improve the sportsmanship behavior of national and international professional basketball player candidates, and that it will make positive contributions to the sports lives of the athletes and indirectly to their social lives. Quantitative research method was used in the research. The sample of the research is a simple random sample of the 10-17 age group middle school and high school athletes participating in the girls and boys semi-finals in the school sports basketball star and youth a categories, which are included in the school sports activity program of the 2022-2023 season academic year. It consists of 239 students selected by the method. Emotional Intelligence and Multidimensional Sportsmanship Orientation scales were applied to the participants. SPSS statistical package program was used in the analysis of the obtained data. Frequency analysis, percentage trend analysis, factor analysis, correlation analysis were performed descriptively in the analyses. The findings obtained as a result of the analysis were interpreted and reported. According to the research results; a significant and weak relationship was found between the emotional intelligence and sportsmanship behavior levels of the athlete students. The use of emotional intelligence by basketball athlete students can be associated with their sportsmanship behaviors in basketball competitions. Course or weekly course topics that will increase the emotional intelligence development of students studying at this level can be added to the curriculum. We address a team-building problem for a basketball team, where the team decides on new players to draft, current players to trade with those of other teams, and/or which free agents to acquire, to maximize its total value. Here, the team value is considered as the "ability to win a match." While the individual values of current players in the league are directly obtained from historical data, we propose a predictive model to predict the individual values of collegiate players. We also consider an additional value that comes from the synergy potential among players on the team. We consider "archetypes" of players that represent logical groupings of players based on their characteristics. To estimate the synergy potential between two players, we develop a new metric that encompasses the synergy potential between archetype pairs that each player belongs to. Since the archetypes of collegiate players are unknown, before the synergy estimation, a classification model is performed in order to predict archetypes of collegiate players. These inform a mixed-integer nonlinear programming model for the draft, trade and free agent acquisition problem that maximizes the total team value and balances the synergy among players. We reformulate the objective function in order to overcome computational challenges due to its nonlinearity. Finally, we conduct a case study on a National Basketball Association (NBA) team using 2019–2020 data. Results are discussed and compared with the actual decisions to validate our approach. Basketball, an intermittent sport with a high impact load, presents a strong probability of lower limb injuries. These injuries can be caused by poor quantification of loads, very intense training sessions or even asymmetries in the lower extremities. The main aim of the present study is to identify whether asymmetries exist in basketball. Specifically, asymmetries depending on: (i) type of task, (ii) type of game situation, (iii) specific positions while training and (iv) specific positions while competing. It is hypothesized that there will be no significant differences between the different conditions. For this purpose, all the training sessions and matches of a professional basketball team belonging to the First Spanish Division were monitored during the preseason. WIMU PROTM inertial devices were used for data collection. The statistical analysis compared the different cases with an ANOVA test. The results do not show significant differences in the values collected among the type of task, the game situation and the positions of the individual players. It can be concluded that basketball is a symmetrical sport. Despite this, the coaching staff should carefully monitor the training loads and asymmetries of the players to avoid the risk of injury. For a long time, the level of endurance quality of our male basketball athletes is not high, and there is a gap with the strongest countries in Europe and America. The former head coach of Chinese men's basketball team diagnosed the biggest problem of Chinese men's basketball team and Chinese youth men's basketball team is the poor quality of endurance. It is especially important to strengthen the endurance training of our basketball players and improve their endurance level. However, from the current situation, the teams in the training due to the lack of standards for endurance quality training has led to a great blindness in endurance quality training. The endurance quality level evaluation of young male basketball players is a classic multiple attribute group decision making (MAGDM) issue with vague, inconsistent, and indeterminate information. The 2-tuple linguistic neutrosophic sets (2TLNSs) is an appropriate form to express the indeterminate decision-making information in the endurance quality level evaluation of young male basketball players. Therefore, in this paper, the 2-tuple linguistic neutrosophic numbers CLVA (2TLNN-CLVA) is built based on traditional close value (CLVA) method and applies it to evaluate the endurance quality level of young male basketball players. Finally, a numerical example for evaluating the endurance quality level of young male basketball players has been given and some decision comparisons are also conducted to further illustrate the advantages of the 2TLNN-CLVA method. Revenue management is widely adopted across industries—except in the sports industry. In the context of the present study, we contact every single football and soccer club belonging to the top league in Italy—one of the world's most successful football nations—and obtain responses from close to half of all clubs. We find that one-third of all football clubs apply revenue management, far more than basketball clubs. Basketball clubs rely heavily on fixed pricing, whereas soccer clubs use variable pricing or revenue management. Study data also suggest that perceived barriers to revenue management include a fear of alienating customers or perceived high implementation costs; since experiences of revenue management implementation are overwhelmingly positive, this study suggests that the fears of revenue management implementation are overblown. This study advances research on the practical implementation of revenue management in non-traditional industries and provides an encouragement for executives working in other industries to implement revenue management. Research Summary: An underresearched and undertheorized factor in the resource‐based view's VRIO acronym is the "O": organizational deployment. Exploiting a rule change that exogenously shifted the workflow interdependence of NBA basketball teams, we examine how the benefit provided by a resource depends upon the way it is deployed in an organization's workflow. We also examine how workflow interdependence influences the relative effectiveness of two capabilities for obtaining resources—external acquisition versus internal development. We find that losing star players is more damaging under conditions of greater pooled interdependence and that external acquisition capabilities are more effective for mitigating this damage. Conversely, we find that losing non‐star players is more damaging under conditions of greater reciprocal interdependence and that internal development capabilities are more effective for mitigating this damage. Managerial Summary: Different organizations arrange their workflows in different ways. Some organizations use more individual‐focused workflows, where the performance of each employee is relatively independent of the performance of coworkers, while others use more team‐focused workflows, where the performance of each employee depends critically on the performance of coworkers. Does an organization's way of arranging its workflow affect the amount of damage done when a key employee quits? Does the answer depend upon whether the departing employee is a star performer? Does it depend upon the organization's capability for recruiting high‐potential replacements from other organizations, or its capability for improving the performance of its existing employees? By analyzing data from NBA basketball teams, we find that the loss of a star player is more damaging when teams use a more individual‐focused workflow, but that capability for recruiting high‐potential players mitigates this damage. Conversely, we also find that the loss of a non‑star player is more damaging when teams use a more team‐focused workflow, but that capability for improving performance of a team's existing players mitigates this damage. So, our results suggest that organizations should develop capabilities that fit their workflow and their relative risk of losing star employees versus non‑stars. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The researcher through this case study explores the psychological factors behind Vishesh Bhriguvanshi’s achievements as the youngest captain of an Indian Basketball team and an Arjun awardee. The researcher also focuses to investigate the personality of Vishesh Bhriguvanshi as a player since he is the role model for many players. Therefore, the present study may help new budding sportsperson to know more about the youngest Basketball captain. Methodology: - The data collected through interview and questionnaire method from Vishesh Bhriguvanshi acted as a primary source. Researcher applied the three questionnaires. The first questionnaire was Factors influencing sports career developed by M.L Kamlesh, followed by ‘Competitiveness, Win orientation and Goal orientation made by Gill and Dzewaltowski and Mental toughness test developed by Alan Goldberghas. Result: By applying the questionnaires, the data was collected which was analyzed. The results obtained revealed that Vishesh Bhriguvanshi is basically reliant on internal factors like game superiority, practice and his own playing abilities and hardly depends on external factors like monetary support, coaching, fortune or political approaches. The aim of the present study is to establish the impact of basketball classes on the physical development of 14-year-old girls from the basketball club "Toni - 7" - Sliven. The subject of research is the physical development and physical capacity of students who participate systematically in basketball training sessions. The object of study is the signs of physical development of 14-year-old girls. A total of 19 girls participated in regular basketball training sessions. For the needs of the research, anthropometric measurements were performed and BMI was calculated. Quantifying athlete sleep patterns may inform development of optimal training schedules and sleep strategies, considering the competitive challenges faced across the season. Therefore, this study comprehensively quantified the sleep patterns of a female basketball team and examined variations in sleep between nights. Seven semi-professional, female basketball players had their sleep monitored using wrist-worn activity monitors and perceptual ratings during a 13-week in-season. Sleep variables were compared between different nights (control nights, training nights, training nights before games, nights before games, non-congested game nights, and congested game nights), using generalized linear mixed models, as well as Cohen's d and odds ratios as effect sizes. Players experienced less sleep on training nights before games compared to control nights, training nights, nights before games, and congested game nights (p < 0.05, d = 0.43–0.69). Players also exhibited later sleep onset times on non-congested game nights compared to control nights (p = 0.01, d = 0.68), and earlier sleep offset times following training nights before games compared to all other nights (p < 0.01, d = 0.74–0.79). Moreover, the odds of players attaining better perceived sleep quality was 88% lower on congested game nights than on nights before games (p < 0.001). While players in this study attained an adequate sleep duration (7.3 ± 0.3 h) and efficiency (85 ± 2%) on average across the in-season, they were susceptible to poor sleep on training nights before games and following games. Although limited to a team-based case series design, these findings suggest basketball coaches may need to reconsider scheduling team-based, on-court training sessions on nights prior to games and consider implementing suitable psychological and recovery strategies around games to optimize player sleep.
