Background: Pekmez is an important fruit-based food of Turkish culinary culture. The aim of this study is to determine the levels of acrylamide (AA), 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfural (HMF) and other selected parameters in grape, mulberry and carob Pekmez. Methods: AA and HMF were analyzed by Liquid Chromatography and High Performance Liquid Chromatography, respectively. Also, glucose, fructose, pH, protein, total phenolic, and color (L*a*b*) were analyzed. The analyses were done by IBM SPSS Statistics 26 software. Results: The average AA, HMF, glucose, fructose, total reducing sugar, pH, protein, total phenolic, and colour (L*a*b*) values of Pekmez were 302 µg/kg, 25.7 mg/kg, 13.2%, 14.0%, 27.2%, 5.27, 1.16%, 4.64 mg GAE/g, and 4.83*5.60*1.52, respectively. AA indicates a moderate positive linear correlation with HMF, protein, total phenolic; whereas AA indicates a moderate negative linear correlation with glucose, fructose, total reducing sugar, pH, and L*a*b. The boron occupies an important place on contributions and its usage is getting widespread. Although the use of boron-added mineral oils serves to reduce friction, environmental risks can not be totally removed. It is necessary to improve the properties of biological oils used for additives so that they can compete with mineral oils technically. In the study, the use of liquid boron as an additive for engine lubrication oil together with vegetable oil was investigated experimentally in two diesel engines. Experiments were first carried out using mineral lubrication oil in the engine, and then the experiments were repeated using mineral base oil with additives in the second engine with the same technical characteristics as the first engine. Basically, the study was performed in the fields of engine performance (torque, power, consumption per hour, specific fuel consumption) and exhaust emissions (CO, CO2, HC, O2, SO2, NOx). As a result, it was concluded that the engine, in which boron and mineral oil with wild mustard oil were used, provided more significant fuel saving than in the engine with additive-free mineral oil, and no significant change was seen in the engine performance, also they showed similarities in terms of exhaust emissions. Involvement of the renal artery is common in Takayasu arteritis. We, herein, present on a patient with Takayasu arteritis causing severe renal failure and a successful auto-transplantation. This case shows that early diagnosis and immediate appropriate interventions are life-saving in patients with Takayasu arteritis. Background: Monitoring of chemokines, CXCL9 and CXCL10, in serum may present a non-invasive detection method for rejection. Objective: To investigate the relationship between urinary levels of CXCL9 and CXCL10 and graft function following renal transplantation. Methods: 75 living-related donor renal transplant recipients were studied. Urinary levels of chemokines were collected pre-operatively, on post-operative 1st day, 7th day, 1st month, 3rd month, and at the time of rejection. Chemokines levels were assayed using and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results: Clinical variables were monitored. 10 (15%) patients had biopsy-proven rejection during the follow-up period. The urinary CXCL9 level in those with rejection was significantly higher than that in those with non-rejection group at the 1st day (p<0.001), 7th day (p<0.001), and at the time of rejection (p=0.002). The urinary CXCL10 level was also significantly higher in those with rejection compared with non-rejection group at 1st day (p<0.001), 7th day (p<0.001), and at the time of rejection (p=0.001). Serum creatinine level was strongly correlated with the urinary CXCL9 and CXCL10 levels at the time of rejection (r=0.615, p=0.002; and r=0.519, p=0.022, respectively). Among those with T cell-mediated rejections the mean urinary CXCL10 level increased to as high as 258.12 ng/mL. Conclusion: Urinary CXCL9 and CXCL10 levels might have a predictive value for T cell-mediated rejection in early post-transplantation period. Measurement of urinary CXCL9 and CXCL10 levels could provide an additional tool for the diagnosis of rejection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, alternative tourism types and sights belonging to Safranbolu were identified through Geographic Information System (GIS) tools. In this manner, most favorable tourism activities, which are specific to field, and evaluation factors of these activities were determined. "Suitability classification values" of these factors were charted by receiving opinions from experts. Natural and cultural properties of study area were determined in the light of evaluation factors and a database was set via GIS. This database was examined according to evaluation factors of the activities and the most suitable and conditional suitable areas were determined. In this study, it is aimed to carry out the suitable place analysis for alternative tourism types of Safranbolu, which is a tourism town, such as riding, mountain biking, camping, trekking. 486 km² area for riding, 319 m² for trekking, 209 km² for mountain biking and 148 km² for camping were figured out as suitable. These results reveal that tourism activities should be more professionally organized in order to apply alternative tourism types such as riding, mountain biking, camping, trekking. In addition, organizations such as festivals and fairs should be arranged in order to introduce products special to Safranbolu. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background There is a need for a laboratory marker that correlates with the clinical activity of Behçet's disease (BD). Objective We aimed to investigate whether serum galectin-3 (Gal-3) levels were affected during the course of the disease with regard to disease activity. Methods A total of 131 subjects were involved in the study as follows: Group 1: BD active ( n = 39); Group 2: BD inactive ( n = 31); Group 3: Disease controls with leucocytoclastic vasculitis confirmed with a skin biopsy ( n = 22); and Group 4: Healthy control subjects ( n = 39). The BD patients were followed regularly and samples were taken in their active and inactive periods of the disease over a 2-year period. Results Serum Gal-3 levels were significantly higher in active BD patients (mean 2.38) than inactive BD patients (mean 0.63; P < 0.0001) and the healthy control subjects (mean 0.75; P < 0.0001). There was no significant difference between the leucocytoclastic vasculitis and active BD patients ( P = 0.093). Serum Gal-3 levels were positively correlated with clinical activity scores of active BD patients ( r = 0.66, P < 0.0001). In addition, the Gal-3 levels were significantly higher in the active disease period when compared with the inactive period during the follow-up. There were no significant differences between the two inactive periods of the disease among the same patients. Further analyses revealed that patients with vascular involvement had significantly higher Gal-3 levels than the other active BD patients (mean 7.57; P = 0.007). Limitations The limitation of the study is the small number of patients with vascular involvement in the active BD patient group. Conclusion Gal-3 levels are correlated with the activity of Behçet's disease especially with the vascular involvement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, the electricity load demand, between 2012 and 2021, has been estimated using the load demand of the electricity generated from hydroelectric power plants in Turkey between 1970 and 2011. Among machine learning algorithms, Multilayer Perceptron, Locally Weighted Learning, Additive Regression, M5Rules and ZeroR classifiers are used to estimate the electricity load demand. Among them, M5Rules and Multilayer Perceptron classifiers are observed to have better performance than the others. ZeroR classifier is a kind of majority classifier used to compare the performances of other classifiers. Locally Weighted Learning and Additive Regression classifiers are Meta classifiers. In the training period conducted by Locally Weighted Learning and Additive Regression classifiers, when Multilayer Perceptron and M5Rules classifiers are chosen respectively, it is possible to obtain models with the highest performance. As a result of the experiments performed using M5Rules and Multilayer Perceptron classifiers, correlation coefficient values of 0.948 and 0.9933 are obtained respectively. And, Mean Absolute Error and Root Mean Squared Error value of Multilayer Perceptron classifier are closer to zero than that of M5Rules classifier. Therefore, it can be said the model performed by Multilayer Perceptron classifier has the best performance compared to the models of other classifiers.

The article presents a case study of a 13-year-old girl, who was admitted to the pediatric rheumatology clinic with complaints of recurrent arthralgia and abdominal pain. The Investigations revealed a raised erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein. The diagnosis revealed co-existence of systemic lupus erythematosus and familial Mediterranean fever, for which prednisolone treatment was initiated.

Abstract: Background: One of the most important mechanisms of allograft rejection is the production of donor-specific antibodies (DSA). Anti-major histocompatibility complex class-I chain-related antigen A (MICA) and anti-glutathione S transferase-T1 (GSTT1) antibodies cause graft dysfunction and reduce graft survival. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of anti-human leukocyte antigen class I–II, anti-MICA, and anti-GSTT1 antibodies in development of antibody-mediated rejection. Methods: Among the 32 renal transplant patients included in this study 65% experienced antibody-mediated rejection (AMR; chronic active AMR [CAMR], n = 17; acute AMR [AAMR], n = 4) and 35%, ACR. The anti-HLA class I–II and anti-MICA antibodies were determined by using LUMINEX, anti-GSTT1 antibodies by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. GSTT1 genotyping of patients and donors was performed by polymerase chain reaction. Results: Antibody was detected in 19 of 21 patients undergoing antibody-mediated rejection (90%). We detected anti-GSTT1 in 4, anti-MICA in 8, anti-HLA class I in 5, and anti-HLA class II in 9 patients with CAMR (P = .007). If the patients were divided into 2 groups according to being C4d+ and C4d− both anti-HLA class I and class II antibodies were found significantly more frequently among the C4d+ group (P = .019, P = .024). No difference was determined between AMR and ACR groups in terms of anti-GSTT1 and anti-MICA antibodies. Conclusions: In this study, we observed the role of anti-HLA class II antibodies in the development of CAMR and in long-term allograft survival. It is observed that anti-MICA and anti-GSTT1 antibodies showed no effect on rejection mechanisms. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
