In young patients, autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) is considered the standard of care consolidation strategy after first-line therapy followed by maintenance therapy with lenalidomide (LEN) which has been demonstrated to delay disease relapse/progression [[3], [5]]. Copper pipes corrosion that transport potable water can deteriorate water quality within a distribution system, releasing high copper amounts, exceeding the maximum concentration copper for potable water standards. This study examines the influence of free chlorine on the leaching of copper in the pipes used for the distribution of drinking water. A series of tests was carried out using corrosion test coupons extractable constructed of copper material. The coupons were installed in units containing filtered water (without chlorine, 0 mg/L) and water treated with an average residual chlorine concentration of 0.85 mg/L in the water treatment plant in Azogues city, Ecuador. A corrosion test rack was also installed in a house with an average residual chlorine concentration of 0.37 mg/L. Coupons in these sites were exposed in duplicate for one, two, three and six months. The corrosion coupons were then extracted and weighed to establish the corrosion rate by gravimetric technique. Additional tests were performed in static immersion laboratory tests using drinking water with chlorine concentrations ranging from 0.25 to 5 mg/L for one month. The weight loss tests indicated that an increase in free chlorine concentration, the greater release of copper and therefore a higher corrosion rate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Suicide can be defined as the act where the person finish their life intentionally. It is currently an increasing worldwide problematic. The objective is to characterize the suicide act according to the autopsies reports performed by the Legal Medical Service (SML) Concepción, during the period 2011-2015 Material and method: We released a retrospective, descriptive and transversal study with the autopsies reports performed by the SML Concepción described as suicide, between 2011-2015. We used variables such as: gender, age, procedence, place of ocurrence, marital state, occupation, comorbidities, death cause, blood alcohol concentration, toxicological results, arrival at a care center, previus attempts and warning letter. Data was analized and tabulated using Microsoft Excel. The study was previusly approved by an ethic committee. Results: From the total autopsies released, 12.6% were suicides (511), from which 83.3% were men, 49.9% were married, 83.6% were from Concepcion, 75% of the suicides occurred at home, 88.8% were asphyxiation by hanging, 57.3% had a negative result of alcohol in blood and 67.7% had a negative toxicological test, 5.1% arrived at a care center. Discussion: The most prevalent variables of our study were age 20-29, male gender, single marital status and occupation in technical employment. The most frequent method and place were hanging and domicile respectively. We observed a higher prevalence of alcohol intoxication than international studies. The most prevalent substance in the toxicological analyzes was cocaine. It is necessary to expand the research in our environment by analyzing risk factors and designing new prevention strategies. Objective: To investigate the relationship between hypogonadism and mortality in aged hospitalized male patients. Design: A 5-year prospective observational study was conducted. Gonadal function was assessed at hospital admission and mortality was registered in the follow-up period. Patients and Methods: We studied all patients ≥ 65 years admitted for any reason during 2010 and 2011. Serum T concentrations were quantified in all patients. Hypogonadism was defined by the presence of serum T levels < 200 ng/dl. Number of deaths and all-cause and cardiovascular (CV) mortality were registered until December 31st, 2014. Results: During the study 150 patients were admitted and 103 (68.7 %) of them died during follow-up. Hypogonadism was positively associated with mortality (P = 0.036). The percentage of hypogonadal patients was significantly (P = 0.02) higher in the group of patients who died in hospital compared with those who died after hospital discharge and those who survived. CV disease was the main cause of death in 52 patients (50.5 %). Kaplan-Meier analysis showed a median survival time for all-cause mortality of 2.0 (0-16.5) months and 21.0 (5.0-33.2) months for patients with and without hypogonadism, respectively (P < 0.001). Similar findings were found when analyzing mortality due to CV disease (P = 0.009). Hypogonadism was a strong independent predictor for all-cause (adjusted multivariate analysis, HR 3.35; 1.55-7.23, P = 0.002) and CV mortality (HR 2.14; 1.18-3.86, P = 0.012). Conclusions: Hypogonadism discovered during hospitalization is associated with in-hospital and long-term mortality in elderly male patients and predicts both all-cause mortality and CV mortality in this population. Instead of adding to the driving cacophony, actively orchestrated windshield wipers can enhance musical audition, reinforcing a beat by augmenting the rhythm, increasing the signal:noise ratio by aligning the cross-modal rhythmic beats and masking the noise, providing “visual music,” the dance of the wipers. We recast the windshield wipers of an automobile with advanced multimedia technology, allowing wipers to dance to music.
