Nowadays, the electric power networks comprise diverse renewable energy resources, with the rapid development of technologies. In this scenario, the optimal Economic Dispatch is required by the power system due to the increment of power generation cost and ever growing demand of electrical energy. Thus, the reduction of power generation cost in terms of fuel cost and emission cost has become one of the main challenges in the power system. Accordingly, this article proposes the Grey Wolf Optimization-Extended Searching (GWO-ES) algorithm to provide the excellent solution for the problems regarding Combined Economic and Emission Dispatch (CEED). It validates the robustness of the proposed algorithm in seven Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems (HRES) test bus systems, which combines the wind turbine along with the thermal power plant. Furthermore, it compares the performance of the proposed GWO-ES algorithm with conventional algorithms such as Genetic Algorithm (GA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Differential Evolution (DE), and GWO. Next, the article emulates a valuable convergence analysis and justification for the quality of CEED through the GWO-ES algorithm. Finally, the result was compared to four other conventional algorithms to assure the efficiency of the proposed algorithm in terms of fuel cost and emission cost reduction. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

Passion fruit (Passiflora edulis flavicarpa) is a seasonal, tropical, pulpy fruit, known for a rich source of Vitamin C, antioxidants, and delicate flavor. Presently, freezing technique has been used to preserve the pulp. This article reports alternate method of preservation by foam mat convective air drying of fruit pulp under moderate temperatures. The optimization of process parameters, particularly air temperature, was done with subsequent mathematical modeling of the process and assessment of quality parameters by retention of physicochemical properties and antioxidant capacity of the fruit powder. Sixty degree Celsius was found to be the optimum temperature, and Henderson and Pabis model showed best fit to the drying characteristics data (R2 = 0.99). Diffusivity characteristics of moisture during drying were also studied. As drying temperature was increased, total color difference and rehydration ratio decreased, whereas non-enzymatic browning index, total phenolic content, and total antioxidant activity showed increase that was attributed to inhibition of oxidative enzymes and biochemical changes. Dried passion fruit powder showed overall acceptability in terms of organoleptic properties and total antioxidant activity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction and Objectives: Internal audit of an aspect of a disease at repeated intervals helps in predicting the new emerging trends. This study was planned to assess the profile of patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) without overt complications. Materials and Methods: Patients with HbA1c between 6% and 9% on oral hypoglycemic agents and who did not have clinically overt complications of diabetes were recruited from outpatient clinic of Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) from April 2009 to October 2011. Results: A total of 91 patients (53 males and 38 females) were recruited over 3 years of period. Their mean age was 49.65 ± 11.22 years (range in years) and mean duration of diabetes was 48.09 ± 41.44 (range: 1-180) months. Biochemical evaluation revealed mean fasting blood sugar (FBS): 126.69 ± 25.80 mg/dl and mean HbA1c: 7.12 ± 0.81%. Family history of DM was present in 60.43% of patients, 6.59% were active smokers and 46.15% were obese (waist circumference =90 cm in males and =80 cm in females). All but 6.59% (n = 6) of patients were dyslipidemic and only 25 of these were on antidyslipidemic treatment. Isolated low HDL was most common abnormality (25.27%, n = 23), followed by combination of low HDL and raised LDL (17.58%, n = 16). Evaluation of complications showed retinopathy in just one patient, nephropathy in 17.68%, and neuropathy in 10.97%. MINI neuropsychiatric scale for depression was positive in four patients and four patients were on antidepressants. Conclusion: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients have very high prevalence of dyslipidemia even in patients with good glycemic control.
