The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of 8-week balance exercises on the speed and agility in 10-12 year-old children in physical education lessons. A total of 789 students participated in the study voluntarily. The students were randomly divided into two as experimental group (n=399) and control group (n=390). In addition to their physical education lessons, the experimental group participated in the balance training program 3 days a week, for 8 weeks. The control group students only participated in physical education lessons. Height, body weight, body fat ratio measurements were taken before and after exercise program, flamingo balance test, 20 m speed test and Illinois agility test were applied. The data were evaluated in SPSS 16 program. T-test was used in dependent and independent groups in statistical analysis (p<0.05). In the experimental group significant difference was found in 20m speed, agility and balance values at the end of 8 weeks (p<0.05). In the control group, there was no significant difference was found in these values (p>0.05). As a result of the study, it was determined that balance exercises have a positive effect on speed, agility and balance performance.

The index finger and the 4th finger ratio (2D:4D) is the indicator of the prenatal testosterone. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between 2D:4D, hand preference and hand grip strength in swimmers. A total of 80 elite swimmers, participated in the study. Height, body weight, body mass index (BMI), hand 2D:4D finger measurements and hand grip strength tests were performed for athletes. The hand preference was determined by the Oldfield questionnaire and it was evaluated according to the Geschwind score. The data were recorded in the SPSS 20 program and p<0.05 was considered as statistically significant. It was found that in both men and women, a negative correlation was found between right and left hand 2D:4D and both dominant (DHGS) and non-dominant hand grip strength (NDHGS) values. It was found that men had lower 2D:4D ratio than women. For both right and left handed, there was a statistically significant difference between the right and left hand 2D:4D ratios in both men and women (p<0.05) and the dominant hand (DH) 2D:4D ratios were found to be lower than non-dominant hand (NDH) 2D:4D ratios in both men and women (p<0.05) It can be said that the 2D:4D ratios may be the effect of determining the hand preference, the grip strength and therefore the strength.

The aim of this study is to examine the effects of rope-jump training program in physical education lessons on strength, speed and VO[subscript 2] max in 10-12 year old boys. 240 male students; rope-jump group (n = 120) and control group (n = 120) participated in the study. Rope-Jump group continued 10 weeks of regular physical education and sport lessons and at the same time rope jump training program exercise 3 days a week, while the control group continued physical education and sports lessons only. Body weight, body fat percentage, leg strength, 20m speed test and VO[subscript 2] max test measurements were taken before and after the 10 week period in both groups. The obtained data were evaluated in the SPSS 16 program. In the statistical analysis, t test was used in dependent and independent groups. As a result of pre-test and post-test, significant differences were found in all parameters except speed of control group (p<0.05). When the measurement differences between pre-test and post-test were compared according to the groups, it was determined that weight, body fat ratio, 20m sprint, VO[subscript 2] max and leg strength measurements were significantly different in favor of rope jump group (p<0.05). In 10-12 year old boys, rope-jump training program was the result of having a positive effect on strength, VO[subscript 2] max and especially speed. As a result, the inclusion of rope-jump programs in physical education and sports lesson curriculum, and in sports branch training programs may contribute to the development of children's motor skills and accelerate the development of the children.

Background: Population-based studies examining the prevalence of trigeminal neuralgia (TN) and persistent idiopathic facial pain (PIFP) are rare, and data on TN prevalence in Türkiye are very limited, with the prevalence of PIFP being unknown. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of TN and PIFP in Türkiye. Materials and Methods: This population-based epidemiological study has a cross-sectional and descriptive design, and it was carried out in Afyonkarahisar, Türkiye. Participants aged 18 years and older were screened by using a self-assessment form to determine potential patients with TN or PIFP. Results: A total of 19,237 individuals were included in this study, of which 17,223 responded to the survey questions. TN was diagnosed in 17 individuals, and the prevalence of TN was calculated as 98.5 per 100,000. PIFP was diagnosed in 35 patients, and the prevalence of PIFP was calculated as 202 per 100,000. The mean age of the patients with TN was 54.29 ± 12.98 years, the mean age of patients with PIFP was 49.80 ± 16.10 years, and the female-to-male ratio was 1.13/1 for TN and 2.18/1 for PIFP. Conclusion: The prevalence of PIFP in Türkiye has been reported for the first time by this study. Additionally, a much higher prevalence of TN was found when compared to previous study. The Global Agenda for Social Work and Social Development (GA) aims at strengthening the social work profession by building linkages between global challenges and local responses. Against the neoliberal conservative policy transformation in the last two decades, this article focuses on the effects of neoliberal policies on social work education and practice in Turkey and discusses the relevance and operationalisation of the Global Agenda in Turkish context. The thematic analysis of the qualitative data from focus group interviews held with social work academics and representatives of Turkish Association of Social Workers (TASW) reveal that the role of the profession has significantly been narrowed down; together with the degrading in the quality of social work education, professional values have considerably eroded and thus resulted in further deepening of the identity crisis of the social work profession in Turkey. The research findings also indicate relatively limited knowledge and recognition of the GA in Turkey so far. However, the GA was identified as potentially useful in dealing with local professional challenges. In this regard, the effective operationalisation of the GA in Turkey would be possible with the commitments of both social work educators through the curriculum and engagement of the professionals. Two little known forms of child labour in Turkey are examined. The process through which these children are made to work has parallels with the experiences of slaves. First, a long-standing practice from Northwestern Turkey of parents hiring children to better-off farmers is examined. Further, a more recent problem is examined where children are trafficked to big cities and forced to join criminal rings. Both forms of child labour are consequences of poverty. The factors that give rise to child trafficking and parents letting their children be trafficked are extreme poverty and internal displacement of families.

Similar to the trajectory in many countries, social work education in Turkey developed in the aftermath of World War II, the foundations of which were shaped along international dynamics rather than local context. In this regard, there has been an ongoing debate on localization of social work education. This article discusses the historical trajectory of social work education in Turkey through a systematic review of literature and analysis of data collected by semi-structured interviews with key informants. The implications of neoliberalism for the social work profession in Turkey reflect a dual framework where the human rights perspective co-exists with a faith-based approach. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: It has been reported that a new type of headache may develop as a result of face mask use during the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this study is to investigate the clinical features of face mask-related headache during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study carried out on healthcare workers at the Afyonkarahisar Health Sciences University. The number of workers at our university was established. Sample size was calculated using the G*Power program. A questionnaire consisting of questions relating to pre-existing headache, an aggravation in headache, and de-novo headache was filled out by 3 neurologists with all participants. Results: Data was collected from a total of 375 participants, after the exclusion of 5 individuals who refused to participate. Out of all participants, 26 (6.9%) used a filtering mask, 274 (73.1%) used a surgical mask, 75 (20.0%) participants used a combination of both masks. The number of participants with preexisting headache was 114 (30.4%) had pre-existing headache. Of those with pre-existing headache, 77 (67.5%) healthcare workers had reported an aggravation in their headache after mask use. De-novo headache was observed in 116 (30.9%) of participants. De-novo headache characteristics included throbbing in 17 (14.7%) participants and pressing in 99 (85.3%) participants. In addition, symptoms such as tachypnea, sleep disturbance, and fatigue were found to be significantly higher. An emerging global consciousness and rising attention given to international social work development has seen the recognition of comparative research within the profession. Understanding the functioning and organisation of social work within various country contexts is critical in order to formulate knowledge around its overall impact, successes and challenges, allowing social workers to learn from one another and build professional consolidation. The profession is mapped out in 10 countries, reflecting on its structure, identity and development. Although the profession is developing globally, it is also experiencing significant challenges. BACKGROUND: Burns are traumatic injuries that result in severe tissue damage. A reduction in exercise capacity is the most common functional impairment, although it is not clear to what extent the severity of the burn injury affects the exercise capacity. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to examine the physiological responses to exercise and to evaluate exercise capacity according to burn severity. METHODS: The study included a total of 64 burn patients, comprising 33 with moderate injuries (Total body surface area: 9.93 ± 4.73%; mean age: 37 ± 11.93 years) and 31 with major injuries (Total body surface area: 39.03 ± 10.36%; mean age: 41.09 ± 14.96 years). Heart rate, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, double product, dyspnea level, oxygen saturation and leg fatigue before and after the shuttle walk test were recorded. Walking distances were measured after the shuttle walk test. RESULTS: A significant difference was determined between patients with major and moderate burn injuries in respect of the cardiovascular responses to the shuttle walk test. Major burn injury patients had a significantly shorter walking distance than the moderate burn injury patients (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Burn injury severity was seen to affect the functional capacity and cardiovascular responses to the shuttle walk test. Aim of this research is to investigate effect of psychoeducatıon program prepared ın terms of copıng wıth peer pressure on highschool students' level of peer pressure. The study group of the research consists of a total of 169 students who study in Multi Program High School in Burdur, Yeşilova District as selected randomly with low, middle and high scores and control group of 24 people, experiment group of 24 people. In the research, ‘Peer Pressure Scale’ developed by Kıran (2003) was used towards students selection. In the research, an experimental pattern with pretest, posttest control group was used. In data analysis, independent groups t test and dependent group t test were used. According to the findings of the study, it was found that applied psychoeducation program had positive effect on levels of negative peer pressure. Objectives: To report the management of burn injuries that occured in the Syria civil war, which were referred to our burn center. Methods: Forty-three patients with burns, injured in the civil war in Syria and whom were referred to Dr. Lütfi Kırdar Kartal Educating and Training Hospital Burn Centre of İstanbul, Turkey between 2011-2015 were analyzed in a retrospective study. Results: Most of our patients were in major burn classification (93%; 40/43) and most of them had burns >15% total on body surface area. Most of them were admitted to our center late after first management at centers with improper conditions and in cultures of these patients unusual and resistant strains specific to the battlefield were produced. Conclusion: Immediate transfer of the patients from the scene of incidence to burn centers ensures early treatment, this factor may be effective on the outcome of these patients. The efforts for social integration of emigrant young people have become a prior topic for West European Countries. It has been observed that these efforts mainly operated by non-governmental organizations.
