Abstract Myxozoa is a class of the Phylum Cnidaria made up of endoparasites from aquatic habitats. The genus Ceratomyxa preferentially infects marine fish, with the gallbladder being the main site parasitized. This study aimed to describe a new species of Ceratomyxa found in this organ in Boulengerella cuvieri using morphological, morphometric characterization and phylogenetic analysis of 18S rDNA gene sequences. Specimens of B. cuvieri were collected, anesthetized, desensitized and biometric measurements were performed. The organs were analyzed under a stereomicroscope and fragments of internal organs were extracted for light microscopy analysis, preserved in 80% ethanol for 18S rDNA gene analysis and fixed in Davidson solution for histological processing. Free spores of Ceratomyxa were observed in the gallbladder, in plasmodia with wave-like movements, with the following dimensions: spore width (24.5 ± 0.4) µm, spore length (5.2 ± 0.3) µm, polar capsule width (1.8 ± 0.2) µm, polar capsule length (2.1 ± 0.3) µm, number of polar tubule turns (4-5) and 100% prevalence. Phylogenetic analysis confirmed that Ceratomyxa matosi n. sp. is a new species, grouped with other freshwater Ceratomyxa species from the Amazon, representing the second description of species of this genus in the state of Amapá.

A travessia de pedestres durante o verde veicular é um problema que ainda necessita de maior compreensão e investigação, visto a complexidade das variáveis envolvidas e suas inter-relações. Ferramentas de coleta automatizada podem ser importantes aliadas na obtenção dessas variáveis e análise de suas inter-relações. O objetivo principal deste estudo é customizar e aplicar uma ferramenta automatizada para coletar variáveis importantes em estudos de travessias de pedestres em interseções semaforizadas, sendo estas os headways veiculares, os atrasos dos pedestres, as velocidades veiculares, os tipos de veículo e os instantes de travessia, por faixa. A ferramenta, aplicada em um vídeo de uma interseção semaforizada de Fortaleza, consistiu nas ferramentas YOLOv7 e StrongSORT. O mAP de treinamento da ferramenta foi de quase 90%. Ao todo, 9427 veículos e 723 pedestres foram rastreados; os headways mostraram grande amplitude, a velocidade média dos veículos foi de 28 km/h e o atraso médio dos pedestres foi de 18 seg. A validação com uma ferramenta de coleta (RUBA) apontou que não houve diferenças significativas nas coletas pelos dois métodos quanto aos instantes de passagem dos veículos e de seus headways; para as velocidades veiculares as diferenças foram entre ± 6 km/h, e para as variáveis dos pedestres, as médias das diferenças foram de até 0,2 seg.

ABSTRACT The objective of this case report was to share the successful management of severe endophthalmitis, aiming at ocular integrity and visual acuity. A 73-year-old man presented with visual acuity of 20/30 in the right eye and 20/200 in the left eye. On the 21st day postoperatively after phacoemulsification in the left eye, he developed symptoms of endophthalmitis, including ocular discomfort, blurred vision, and whitish discharge. Despite negative cultures, his condition worsened, resulting in corneal perforation on the 31st day. Conjunctival flap and penetrating keratoplasty were performed. Currently, the patient maintains a visual acuity of 20/40 in the left eye, with a healthy graft and no signs of failure. Despite the complications, careful follow-up and timely interventions successfully preserved his vision. The use of conjunctival flap during the inflammatory phase was crucial to maintaining ocular integrity. This underscores the importance of different approaches in complex ocular complications, including alternative strategies for ocular protection during active inflammation.

Land use modelling is essential to understanding future land use and change dynamics. Analyses of land use and change using Cellular Automata (CA) have been frequent in the literature since the latter were introduced to geography in the 1970s. In this paper, the statistical subsections – city blocks – of a previous analysis of Lisbon's commercial structure are used as the cells of a CA. A multi-layer perceptron (MLP) models the transition potential of those cells between 1995 and 2020, considering the impact of street centrality, subway development and other proxies of urban growth. The results confirm that commercial growth and change can be simulated as a function of street centrality and that using Local integration and Choice as drivers of a CA may help improve predictions of commercial growth and change. Moreover, the CA results reinforce that street centrality positively affects street commerce, especially when combined with access to transit and amenities. While these results can already inform planning practice and policymaking, the framework presented in this paper may be replicated to simulate ​future commercial land use, thus helping planners and policymakers prepare for change.

Although issues of equity and accessibility have already been addressed in transportation, especially with regard to the distribution of costs and benefits, there is no consensus on which concept and metric of fairness would be most appropriate for the evaluation of transportation infrastructure proposals. Normally, a utilitarian perspective is adopted, where issues of unequal distribution of costs and benefits are not the main focus. This paper aims to incorporate the assumptions of other justice theories, namely egalitarianism, communitarianism, and Capability Approach (CA), into the equity assessment of transportation infrastructures, and by doing so, pay closer attention to those who are less advantaged or more open to social exclusion. These theories are critically reviewed considering their contribution to the assessment of equity in terms of transportation infrastructure accessibility impacts. Based on the reviewed theories, accessibility indicators are built and used to assess the equity impacts of the Lisbon Metro expansion project. The findings support the importance of adding other justice perspectives to assessing transportation projects. The CA and Maximax support a need to establish minimum or acceptable distribution standards of accessibility. However, the results from the CA are strongly dependent on the assumptions as to the maximum acceptable travel times.

Background: Synovial hemangioma is a rare neoplastic lesion, which can result in recurrent hemarthrosis and pain. It can affect any joint, tendon, or bursa, withal those around the knee. The intra-articular lesion is more prevalent and is more frequently diagnosed in female children or young adults. Indications: Surgery is indicated when patients present with recurrent painful hemarthrosis that affect daily living and functionality. Technique Description: Diagnostic knee arthroscopy, initially without tourniquet inflation, was performed to detect and study the extent of the lesion. Afterwards, the tourniquet was inflated to proceed with the surgical excision. Medial parapatellar approach was performed, and limits of the hemangioma were identified. Wide resection was performed taking care to not damage the medial meniscus and medial condyle cartilage. Neoplastic lesion was sent to pathology analysis. The tourniquet was deflated and hemostasis checked because these lesions can present extensive bleeding. Results: Localized, well-circumscribed, and encapsulated lesions have been reported to usually present low recurrence rate when completely excised. Discussion/Conclusion: It is a rare disease, and around 200 cases have been reported; therefore, conclusions about treatment and outcomes rely mostly on case series and case reports. Early diagnosis and treatment are paramount to prevent degenerative changes secondary to recurrent hemarthrosis. Objetivo: Esse estudo tem como objetivo mensurar o impacto da profilaxia antibiótica combinada nas taxas de Infecção de Sítio Cirúrgico (ISC) de pacientes submetidos à Redução Aberta de Fratura (RAF) e avaliar o impacto dessa medida no perfil de resistência antimicrobiana dos pacientes com diagnóstico de Infecção Relacionadas a Fraturas (IRF). Métodos: Estudo de coorte retrospectivo, unicêntrico, realizado em um hospital universitário, utilizando banco de dados do Serviço de Controle de Infecção Hospitalar (SCIH) de pacientes submetidos a RAF no período de janeiro a dezembro de 2022. Foram excluídos da análise pacientes com fratura exposta e menores de 18 anos. IRF foi definido de acordo com os critérios de ISC do Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Paciente de elevado risco para ISC foi definido como índice de comorbidades de Charlson maior ou igual a cinco. Os pacientes foram seguidos por três meses do pós-operatório. De janeiro a março de 2022 foi utilizado cefalotina como profilaxia cirúrgica (grupo pré-intervenção) e de abril a dezembro o grupo intervenção utilizou cefuroxima + gentamicina para os pacientes de risco elevado ou cefuroxima em monoterapia para os demais. Resultados: No total, 1.901 pacientes foram incluídos no estudo, 864 pré-intervenção e 1.037 no grupo intervenção. As taxas de ISC do grupo pré vs. intervenção foram 6,9% (72) e 2,8% (24), respectivamente (RR=0,4; 95% IC 0,22‒0,58; p=0,000). No ano de 2022, os microrganismos mais frequentemente identificados na FRI foram S. aureus (28%), S. coagulase negativo (14%), Klebsiella aerogenes (13%) e Pseudomonas aeruginosa (9%). A profilaxia antibiótica estendida aplicada para pacientes com elevado risco de ISC não alterou a epidemiologia microbiana da IRF, enquanto não aumentou as taxas de microrganismos Multirresistentes (MDR) (p=0,784). Paralelamente, houve aumento na sensibilidade à oxacilina para Gram-positivos (pré-40% vs. 67%) e aumento na sensibilidade aos carbapenêmicos aos Gram-negativos (pré-82% e pós-100%). Conclusão: A profilaxia antibiótica estendida aplicada para um grupo selecionado de pacientes com maior risco de desenvolverem IRF não elevou as taxas de ISC por microrganismos multirresistentes, porém, contribuiu para redução significativa das taxas de ISC. Estratégias individualizadas de prevenção de ISC e mais estudos multicêntricos, especialmente para infecções associadas a biofilme são necessárias.

O lixo quando definido como restos, coisas descartadas, abandonadas, geralmente com conteúdos que estão intimamente ligados ao cotidiano, é um vestígio precioso para a Arqueologia. Encontrar um bolsão de lixo em contexto estratigráfico preservado é um dos melhores achados que a pesquisa arqueológica pode oferecer para quem está escavando um sítio. Com a expansão de uma arqueologia mais preocupada com a genealogia de problemas socioambientais que assolam a vida em todo planeta, o interesse arqueológico pelo lixo tem ressurgido e com ele novos olhares para os clássicos de William Rathje e o uso da arqueologia em políticas públicas, assim como tem sido cada vez mais comuma referência a autores cujas diferentes perspectivas teórico-metodológicas unem-se no que vem sendo chamado de arqueologia do passado contemporâneo, do passado recente ou do presente.

The ubiquitous use of mobile devices along with the amount of traffic, transportation services, and travel pattern data available has led to the emergence and deployment of smartphone applications for providing information about personal travel management. Several of these travel apps are aimed at voluntary travel behavior change (VTBC) to support and increase sustainable mobility, and have led to the development of research to investigate their influence on travel behavior. Here, the aim is to study the role of technophilia and goal-framing theory in the intention to adopt and situationally use a prospective VTBC travel app. A Structural Equation Model is developed with the aim of empirically testing a sample of 971 respondents collected in two suburban corridors in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. The results support that goal-framing theory is important for explaining the adoption of VTBC travel apps. Gain and normative motives are more relevant than hedonic motives, pointing to the importance of their tangible benefits. Frequent car users may benefit from VTBC travel apps in terms of encouraging behavioral changes, supporting sustainable mobility management solutions. The results also outline the importance of technophilia and the current use of travel apps in influencing the intention to use VTBC apps. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective. Research that aims to identify useful metadata standards for the preservation and digital availability of open data according to current literature.. Method. Is characterized as an exploratory research, in the identification of metadata and bibliographic standards, for the necessary literary foundation on descriptive representation of information, digital preservation and metadata, with the purpose of digitally treating, conserving and making available the open data, from the qualitative approach of data collection. Results. Based on literary research, results on the list of environments such as government websites, research institutes, digital repositories, electronic catalogs and digital libraries that adopt metadata standards that can be used to preserve and make available open data, specifically, Dublin Core, used in environments such as the Brazilian Open Data Portal; Preservation Metadata Implementation Strategies, present in repositories such as the Carolina Digital Repository; Metadata Object Description Schema, adopted by systems such as Copac: UK and Irish Research Library Catalog; and Metadata Encoding and Transmission Standard, accessed to manage digital objects in libraries and repositories such as the National Digital Library of Portugal. Conclusions. Was concluded that the only metadata standard thought specifically of digital preservation, and that if considered as the recommended for the digital safeguard and availability of open data, is the Preservation Metadata Implementation, from fields like rights, agents and events, while that the other schemas identified, even if created for other purposes, also allow the preservation of data, such as the Dublin Core, in the use of the source, relation, coverage and rigths elements, of the Metadata Object Description Schema, when adopting the location and recordInfo attributes, and the Metadata Encoding and Transmission Standard, in adopting the structural link section and behavior section components.

Abstract Mucus hypersecretion contributes to lung function impairment observed in COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), a tobacco smoking-related disease. A detailed mucus hypersecretion adverse outcome pathway (AOP) has been constructed from literature reviews, experimental and clinical data, mapping key events (KEs) across biological organisational hierarchy leading to an adverse outcome. AOPs can guide the development of biomarkers that are potentially predictive of diseases and support the assessment frameworks of nicotine products including electronic cigarettes. Here, we describe a method employing manual literature curation supported by a focused automated text mining approach to identify genes involved in 5 KEs contributing to decreased lung function observed in tobacco-related COPD. KE genesets were subsequently confirmed by unsupervised clustering against 3 different transcriptomic datasets including (1) in vitro acute cigarette smoke and e-cigarette aerosol exposure, (2) in vitro repeated incubation with IL-13, and (3) lung biopsies from COPD and healthy patients. The 5 KE genesets were demonstrated to be predictive of cigarette smoke exposure and mucus hypersecretion in vitro, and less conclusively predict the COPD status of lung biopsies. In conclusion, using a focused automated text mining and curation approach with experimental and clinical data supports the development of risk assessment strategies utilising AOPs.
