Earth building has always existed on all continents; it constitutes an integral part of the cultural heritage of mankind. The present study is particularly interested in the valorisation of adobe masonry. To do this, a series of adobe units (three types: a, b and c) and adobe masonry wallets (A, B, and C) were prepared manually and infilled with 1cm thick earth mortar. In order to study the mechanical behaviour of the wallets in the laboratory, we study the mechanical behaviour of adobes and earth mortar then we apply the uniaxial loading method on the wallets. Also we present a new analytical formula which gives the mechanical properties of wallets derived from those of bricks and mortar that were determined before they were assembled. The experimental study shows that the compressive strength of wallets is 33% lower than that of adobes, and the deformations are similar to those of bricks, but they are 6 to 8 times smaller than those of mortar. The experimental mechanical properties of wallets were compared with those determined analytically. It give us results similar to the experimental ones with a ratio EManal/ EMexp equal to 1.2.

This study primarily aims to determine the physico-mechanical properties and durability of compressed stabilized earth blocks (CSEBs) made from a mixture of clay and crushed sand that meet the recommendations of the French Standard NF P13-901. The first part of this study consists of first identifying the raw materials. An experimental study was then carried out with three compositions of compressed earth bricks of dimensions (29 × 14 × 9 cm3) which were prepared by adding 4%, 6% and 8% of slaked lime. These bricks were prepared using the manually-operated Auram 3000 Earth Block Press to study the effects of slaked lime addition on the physical and mechanical characteristics as well as on the durability of these bricks. In addition, the durability was studied and analyzed in two different curing modes. The experimental study showed that it is possible to use stabilized compressed earth bricks as a building material for an optimal mixture of clay with 70% of crushed and stabilized sand, with a percentage addition of 4%, 6% and 8% of slaked lime.

The development of self-compacting concrete (SCC) marks a huge step towards improved efficiency and working conditions on construction sites and in the precast industry. SCC flows easily into more complex shapes and through reinforcement bars, reduces the manpower required for the placement; no vibration is required to ensure correct compaction of concrete. This concrete contains a high volume of binder, which is controlled by their rheological behaviour. The paste consists of binders (Portland cement with or without supplementary cementitious materials), water, chemical admixtures and fillers. In this study, two series of tests were performed on self-compacting cement pastes made with marble waste additions as mineral addition. The first series of this investigation was to determine the flow time of paste using Marsh cone, the second series was to determine the rheological parameters of the same paste namely yield stress and plastic viscosity using rheometer. The results of this investigation allowed us to study the evolution of the yield stress, viscosity and the flow time Marsh cone paste as a function of the composition of the paste.

The objective of this article is to determine the physical and mechanical properties of stabilized compressed earth bricks (SCEB), made from a mixture of clay with crushed sand, and stabilized by lime. In this study, we first examine the identifying properties of raw materials. Then an experimental study was conducted with cylindrical test pieces of a mixture of clay and crushed sand prepared by the addition of lime and statically compaction, to study the physical and mechanical characteristics of the mixture. The experimental study shows that for use as a building material, the clay mixture with 30% crushed sand and stabilized with 4% and 6% lime is the optimum mixture for as a stabilized compressed earth bricks.

The siltation as a natural phenomenon threatens the performance of harbors by reducing their docking volume compared to dams in terms of water storage, as well as their life span. An alarming rate of siltation is noted in the various basins requires an urgent cleaning operations. In a context of valorization of the sludge resulted from the dredging operations of the basins of the Oran’s port and those of the Bouhanifia’s dam which are located in Western Algeria, it is a question of studying possibilities which are offered by the use of these vases in the design of bricks building. The followed methodology is based on a physicochemical and mineralogical characterization of the two vases to reveal the one closest to the standards recommended for the manufacture of the baked brick. After analyzing sediments dredged in the port of Oran, it turned out that there is a dominance of sandy sediments, which are not recoverable in the areas of bricks we have targeted. Sustainability tests were performed on several sludge dam samples at different temperatures and percentages of water. The results gave a satisfaction in mechanical strength and durability for a firing temperature of 850 ° C and a percentage of water of 20%.

In the context of sustainable local development of the Adrar region, one of the largest regions in the Algerian Sahara. The search for local useful substances has been initiated by the Algerian state to cover the need for building materials in the construction industry. However, from a geological point of view, the Adrar zone is located in the extension of the primary chain of the Ougarta which separates two sedimentary basins of Reggane and Timimoun, as well as the basin of Sbâa. In this context, an experimental study is focused on the characterization of clay deposits, with a view to their valorization in the construction materials industry (ceramics) sector, with the aim of contributing to the use of local materials.
