In September 1864, The New York Times ran a brief advertisement for a new novel titled John Guilderstring's Sin, declaring it "an intense and passionate love story, in the 'Jane Eyre' style." By so labelling the novel, this advert presented its author, C. French Richards, as a member of the "Jane Eyre school": a term coined by Godey's to describe the host of successful American women authors who rewrote Charlotte Brontë's iconic plot for a largely conservative antebellum and wartime audience. Richards, however, failed to attract the popular following of her fellow "Jane Eyre" authors, who typically sanitised Brontë's hedonistic hero and doubled down on the rewards of the marriage plot. Richards distinguishes herself by writing a "Jane Eyre" novel that rejects rather than embraces heteronormative romance. She presents her own Byronic male lead, the titular John Guilderstring, as a corrupt, undesirable choice for her consciously androgynous heroine, Mattie, whose chivalric courtship of women serves as an antidote to his predatory behaviour. By presenting Mattie's navigation of queer womanhood and toxic masculinity via a rewriting of the widely read Jane Eyre, Richards defies the American "Jane Eyre school's" stranglehold on Brontë's text. Travel literature not only provides relevant information about cultural heritage, such as authorship, chronology or location, but also reveals the impressions evoked by its reception. This article describes the methodology of the ongoing REWIND project, which explores European cultural heritage through the perspectives of Latin American women writers who travelled to Europe in the early twentieth century. The project seeks to amplify the voices of non-European women committed to feminism and sociocultural diversity to foster decolonial, inclusive and pluralistic historical narratives. On the one hand, we address the configuration of the project corpus, the semantic annotation process, and the design of the ontological modelling according to the deep data concept. On the other hand, we explain the analysis of the relationships between cultural heritage, time, space and emotion. The project uses travel literature in digital format to retrieve, study and interpret data on cultural heritage, creating a workflow that integrates information from various historical sources to raise further questions and provide new insights. The proposed methodology follows the FAIR principles and prioritizes using open-source software to ensure reproducibility and facilitate the use of deliverables in other studies. This article examines two novels by contemporary American women writers: Luster by Ravel Leilani (2020) and My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh (2018). It charts some of the ways in which both use art and portrayals of art to theorise late capitalism: its amorphous grip on the aesthetics of the contemporary, and what Fredric Jameson famously referred to as the ‘waning of affect’ under its cultural dominance. I argue, however, that these novels also offer a distinct approach to navigating late capitalism and the types of desires (for more of the same) it generates, and that they do this by resisting genre. This resistance of genre reads in terms of a plotlessness or ongoingness which serves the purpose, I suggest, of holding space for other, illegible, as-yet uncast desires which might disrupt capitalist convention. Introduction: Latin America is facing a socio-political and economic context of great violence and crisis of care, reproduction of life, bonds and social fabric, with women being one of the most vulnerable groups. Therefore, it is necessary for social psychology, as a discipline permeated by neoliberalism and patriarchy, to turn its gaze and pay more attention, on the one hand, to the complex problems caused by political violence in our region and, on the other, to be critically examined to implement substantial transformations to its own research, academic education and social action or university extension processes. This article addresses some of the disciplinary challenges and responsibilities in a very complex regional context that requires a concrete and situated Latin American experience, and at the same time, a decolonial and intersectional feminist place of enunciation, that represents an area of resistance to continue building a critical, emancipatory and liberating, inclusive, feminist, diverse, intersectional and decolonial social psychology. Furthermore, it is necessary to forge a discipline that acts from epistemic disobedience and that can recognize other epistemological, theoretical, methodological, practical and interpretative frameworks of history and scientific knowledge that are enriched by the methods and practices of feminisms. Therefore, it is necessary to collaborate in making visible the contributions mainly of Costa Rican, Mesoamerican and Latin American women authors that confirm the political and socially transforming character of feminist research processes. However, to achieve this, it is essential to recognize that this is a disciplinary responsibility that concerns all professionals and not only women. Thus, the bibliographical review provides us with insights to continue working on a transforming, intersectional and encouragingly feminist social psychology, sensitive to regional contexts and from a psychosocial and decolonial praxis. Objective: This text seeks to contribute to the understanding and transformation of the disciplinary practice through a praxis that is critical towards a social approach, from feminist decolonial perspectives that are self-critical of the neoliberal patriarchal forms of reproduction of violence in the region and inside the activity of the discipline. Method: This article was developed through an online bibliographic search and review in scientific research portals, in journals such as Reflexiones and WimbLu of the University of Costa Rica (UCR), Revista Costarricense de Psicología, Revista de Pensamiento e Investigación Social, Revista Psicología Política, Revista Psicoperspectivas, Individuo y Sociedad of the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso and Revista Interamericana de Psicología. In addition, books from the repositories of the libraries of the National University (UNA) and the University of Costa Rica (UCR) were reviewed. Likewise, libraries of nongovernmental human rights and feminist organizations in the Mesoamerican region –which have developed interesting theoretical and methodological proposals and models of intervention and accompaniment applied to Latin America– were consulted, such as Aluna Acompañamiento Psicosocial of Mexico and the Community Studies and Psychosocial Action Team (ECAP) of Guatemala. From this review, texts mainly by Latin American authors were identified and selected with emphasis on the period from 2007 to 2022 as a means of covering the trends of the last 15 years in the fields of social psychology and intersectional feminisms, a period in which multiple forms of violence, chiefly against women, have increased and intensified, posing important challenges to the discipline of psychology in facing a very complex regional context that requires a concrete and situated experience at the Latin American level. Thus, this text is proposed as a critical bibliographic research based on theoretical elements of intersectional and decolonial feminisms and their contributions to the work of Latin American social psychology and its current trends. In addition to presenting a critical approach, it is intended as a reflective and self-reflective document; in other words, it is theoretical research, but also situated within a personal professional practice and a concrete experience that requires constant introspection in order to identify elements of the endeavor that could reproduce or are reproducing patriarchal and violent practices. Results: Few theoretical-practical investigations were found on structural violence in the region, and even fewer feminist investigations on the experiences of Latin American women and from the approaches of social psychology. The ones that were discovered were developed only by women, and do not include a critical perspective on patriarchal practices within our professional praxis. Conclusions: We find ourselves in a complex and violent socio-political and economic context in Latin America, which renders the care and reproduction of life, bonds and the social fabric vulnerable, with women being one of the most affected groups. Therefore, it is urgent that social psychology contributes to the transformation of this context, but at the same time, it needs to look internally to transform the multiple ways of reproducing neoliberalism and patriarchy within its disciplinary work. To do so, it requires support from decolonial and intersectional feminisms in order to promote, empower, motivate and recognize the wisdom of the peoples of Abya Yala and of Abya Yala herself, and the scientific and epistemological production of feminist women as a group that is also in resistance. The theoretical and methodological contributions addressed in this paper provide situated perspectives, from ethically and politically clear places of enunciation, epistemologically disobedient and committed to in-discipline. They also provide theoretical and methodological tools that collaborate in the reconstruction of the social fabric on which the dominant socio-political, neoliberal and patriarchal violence is produced and reproduced, but at the same time, where life and bonds, resistances and connections between women are reproduced. These contributions inspire creative, inclusive and critical practices that can strengthen new paths, but mainly provide insights to continue working in a transformative, intersectional and encouragingly feminist social psychology, sensitive to regional contexts and from the praxis of a decolonial psychosocial approach. Four Latin American women authors--Karen Chacek and Gabriela Damián Miravete of Mexico, and Roberta Spindler and Aline Valek of Brazil--address the current climate crisis in narratives that break down barriers between the human body and the environment. Their stories explore the absorption of elements of the natural world into the human body, suggesting an exchange of both physicality and consciousness. This merging of elements from the plant, insect, and animal realms with the human body is evocative of Donna Haraway's networked body and Bolívar Echeverría's codigofagia, that is, the mixing of diverse codes toward the creation of future societies or civilizational experiments. The texts combine the possibilities of science fiction with the grieving process for a damaged planet, but without essentializing either women or nature. Using Rosi Braidotti's concept of posthuman feminism and Stacy Alaimo's transcorporeality, this article suggests that this approach to climate change--through bodily transformation and transcendent consciousness--captures the resilience of Latin American culture. The present literary study posits the argument that contemporary women's poetry depicts androgyny as a subversive tool against patriarchal order and gender-specific behaviors. The selected poetry of American and British women writers is explored for the representation of androgynous role and the ways it problematizes and challenges patriarchal stereotypical norms of gender identity and gender determined attitudes and performances. To substantiate the claim in relation to this particular motif in contemporary women's poetry, the theoretical concepts of flexible performativity, inter-gender egalitarianism and enhanced artistic capability from within the broader theory of Androgyny are applied to substantiate the claim in the analysis of the poetic works. Several studies on anthropogonic myths and on the origins of patriarchy agree in pointing out that the myth of Adam and Eve is one of the most influential in shaping the identity and destiny of women in Western civilization. This paper analyzes a corpus of literary works from the 20th and 21st century written by Spanish and Latin American women writers that offer a female vision of the myth. By transferring the voice to Eve, they rewrite the plot and redefine the characters. The article focuses on the analysis of two of the modifications that these works, manifestly hypertextual, introduce with respect to the hypotext: Eve's perspective and voice, and the transformation of the story of the creation of the primordial couple. The article analyzes Lee Israel's autobiographical memoir "Can You Ever Forgive Me?" and its film adaptation of the same title to argue that the American author's acts of literary forgery may be attempts at imagining a new form of female canon and authorship. It explains how her preference to produce her work in the form of literary forgery constitutes a brave new form ofécriture féminine outside the boundaries of the anxiety of influence and the symbological authority of authorship.

The proposed article aims to examine the strategies used by American women cookbook writers to attract the intended audience to their collections. The study is based on 19th-century cookbooks published in the United States; earlier collections, although available in the US were published in and brought from Britain. Written for and, in many cases, by housewives, the analysed cookbooks show, on the one hand, how the authors tried to convince the prospective reader of their expertise and knowledge. On the other hand, a certain degree of intimacy with the reader was to draw the reader's attention to the collection. The discussion will be based on (i) the cookbooks' titles, as they are "the first point of contact between the writer and the potential reader" (Haggan, 2004, p. 193) and an important determinant of a book's success; and (ii) the authors' signatures (as not all of the publications were signed with the author's name). Katrina Trask (1853-1922) is best known for founding -- both financially and idealistically -- Yaddo, the artist retreat located in Saratoga Springs, New York. Spencer and Katrina Trask's sense of service and philanthropy was informed by her love for Arthurian legends and the medieval notion of patronage, wherein the wealthy fund and support artists and writers. Trask devoted her life to serving, so much so that her own literary career has become a footnote to her charity. She began her writing career after the loss of her four young children, and over the span of her lifetime wrote essays, plays, poetry, and novels -- in addition to being a prolific chronicler of events. Historical and scholarly attention on Trask should be extended beyond references to her wealth to include her literary accomplishments, not as a mere footnote but rather as an independent aspect of her life worthy of its own critical attention. In this essay, I argue that the legends of King Arthur and Faust and the ethics associated therewith directly inform Katrina Trask's literary works and the larger notion of service throughout her lifetime. The resounding triumph of Latin American and Spanish women writers in Spanish-speaking and world literary markets in recent years is a consequence of significant changes in the gatekeeping process, as well as fundamental shifts in ideas about the relationship between the novel and the market. This paper proposes a discussion of the role of the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize, founded in 1993 and awarded each year to novels written by women in Spanish America (including Spain), in this process. The text will first discuss the prize as part of a trend of literary prizes in which women can participate exclusively, such as the Women’s Prize of Fiction. It will then discuss in particular the cases of prize-winning women writers who have achieved resonance beyond the Spanish language (such as Cristina Rivera Garza, Lina Meruane, Marina Perezagua, Nona Fernández and María Gainza) as opposed to others (Silvia Molina, Ana García Bergua, Inés Fernández Moreno) whose recognition is limited to the language. In this way, the award will be used as a privileged place to discuss the mechanisms and limitations faced by Latin American women writers in concentric circles of cultural capital. In this essay, we underscore the work of Sara Castro-Klarén and her multiple contributions to feminist, intersectional, and decolonial scholarship in the Americas. Consequently, feminism in the North American academy had to face its fragmentation, although Castro-Klarén points out "this is not to say that fragmentation of Feminism into feminisms diminished the force emanating from the North American academy. In her 1996 article for "Studies in 20 SP th sp Century Literature", Castro-Klarén shows her unwillingness to untie the subject of feminist theory and Latin American texts from the actual lives and bodies of women living in diverse circumstances in the part of the world we call Latin America. In noting the "tight if not always comfortable, embrace of the theoretical developments in Europe and the United States" (271), Castro-Klarén points out that feminism in Latin America has always been part of women's political activism in different parts of the body politic, a "feminist struggle [that] has consciously included the domestic struggle" (271-72). In this essay, I suggest that Aurora Cáceres's embrace of the démodé, both at the level of form-- through an "out-of-fashion" naturalistic style--and as a thematic focus of La Rosa Muerta (1914), is a deliberate choice that determines the author's radically modern feminism. I propose readings of different moments from the novella from the perspective of démodé as an aesthetic category that evinces a particular relationship to time and, as such, it encompasses all of its iterations--the out of fashion, the untimely, and the out of timeliness. These readings complicate not only the narratives of the straightforward modern developmental chronopolitics, which organizes the logic of most of the contemporary literary works of the time, but also will reveal how this novella contributes to a feminist theorizing of time. This approach both destabilizes our dominant and naturalized models of feminism's timing and challenges the traditional generational logic that has guided its reading in Latin America. By bringing questions of temporality and a revision to the concept of women's time to bear on the understanding of this novella, this essay aims at complicating the linear and generational thinking that has influenced the reading of feminism in this modernist text, and perhaps in the work of Latin American women writers in general. Shirley Jackson's essays in popular women's magazines negotiate the gendered tensions and commercial contradictions of postwar print culture. This essay shows how the women in Jackson's essays are figures of the fraught convergence of women's public affiliation and the restrained politics of gender critique. These female figures are also representative of broader issues in US print culture after the Second World War. In particular, Jackson's essays represent how a certain strain of feminist writing—sometimes known as "domestic humor"—was absorbed within the market forces of print capitalism. In 1946, Salvadoran woman writer and artist Consuelo Suncín Sandoval (1901-1979) writes Memorias de la rosa, an autobiographic-memorial text posthumously published in 2000, on the centenary of the birth of his husband, French aviator and writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (1900- 1944). A part of the critique, where the preface of the first Spanish edition of this work stands out, enthrones the mythical image of the renowned author, an operation that obscures the textual proposal and overshadows the Salvadoran woman author. Such impairment highlights the correlation between the positioning of the works and the bodily stigma of the subjects who occupy the authorial purpose, which turns it into an invitation to revisit the text from the bodilyauthorial configuration of the "I" to contribute to settle a historiographic debt towards the figure and work of this Central American woman writer. The current study, which approaches the motif of motherhood in three short stories by American minority women writers from the perspective of postmodern feminism, rebuts the claims of feminist orientalism that mothering experience is homogeneous and universal. Instead, it argues that the discourse of motherhood is as heterogonous as the mothers' social and cultural backgrounds. The fictional mothers in Alice Walker's "Everyday Use" (2007), Amy Tan's "Two Kinds" (1989), and Suzan Darraj's "Nadia" (2007), the study maintains, are represented as incubators of ideological, social, and nationalist activisms. As authoritative mothers, they expect their daughters to absorb and incarnate whatever values passed on to them. This study handles American woman writer Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s works called The Yellow Wallpaper and Herland as the products of Gilman’s feminist rebellion or as parts of her feminist journey contributing to it. In the study, the aim is to reveal that each of these two works constitutes a different part of Gilman’s maturation journey as a feminist writer, basically feminist theory, and besides, text-based and comparison methods are adopted accordingly. While the writer’s story called The Yellow Wallpaper and dated 1892, is thought to be the product of the writer’s first years as a feminist or a basis for her feminist journey; her utopian novel Herland is considered to be the masterpiece or in other words, the peak of her feminist journey. It is no doubt that both of the writer's works are unique and significant in themselves separately. However, what is proposed here is that each constitutes a different part of Gilman's career as a feminist writer. Thus, the story called The Yellow Wallpaper - although the protagonist’s struggle for freedom, who can also be called as the female narrator remains unresolved- constructs the basis of Gilman’s feminist rebellion. Whereas Herland, displaying the characteristics of a feminist work not only with the matriarchal society handled in the novel but also in terms of the phenomena such as maternity, fertility, and labor sharing featured in the novel, carries Gilman’s feminist struggle or rebellion to its peak.
