Uşak is one of the rare cities in Turkey where there is a strong tradition of jereed that is played on horses. This traditional (ancestral) sport exhibit very well established structure with all the necessary components in Uşak. In this study, the sport which has been practiced voluntarily to honor the ancestral tradition in an amateur fashion is examined by the experiences and knowledge of practitioners. It includes idioms, terms, proverbs and slangs and poems that are recited during the game that are good representative jereed culture. Several aspect of horse culture in Uşak such as breading, rearing and training of jereed horses will be examined. Characteristics of people involved in jeered sport, and the features of the best jereed players are tried to be collected. Socio-economic situation of the jereed players will be investigated. The names, nicknames and other features of famous jereed players of Uşak will be compiled. Female jereed players’ points of views on horse, their interest in jereed, the reasons for being involved in the sport and their use of jereed terms are investigated. The difficulties that female players encounter will also be mentioned. This study, lasted over a year, provides information and terminology about jereed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
