The growing demand for high-quality point cloud transmission over wireless networks presents significant challenges, primarily due to the large data sizes and the need for efficient encoding techniques. In response to these challenges, we introduce a novel system named Deep Point Cloud Semantic Transmission (PCST), designed for end-to-end wireless point cloud transmission. Our approach employs a progressive resampling framework using sparse convolution to project point cloud data into a semantic latent space. These semantic features are subsequently encoded through a deep joint source-channel (JSCC) encoder, generating the channel-input sequence. To enhance transmission efficiency, we use an adaptive entropy-based approach to assess the importance of each semantic feature, allowing transmission lengths to vary according to their predicted entropy. PCST is robust across diverse Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) levels and supports an adjustable rate-distortion (RD) trade-off, ensuring flexible and efficient transmission. Experimental results indicate that PCST significantly outperforms traditional separate source-channel coding (SSCC) schemes, delivering superior reconstruction quality while achieving over a 50% reduction in bandwidth usage.

Mini-batch Graph Transformer (MGT), as an emerging graph learning model, has demonstrated significant advantages in semi-supervised node prediction tasks with improved computational efficiency and enhanced model robustness. However, existing methods for processing local information either rely on sampling or simple aggregation, which respectively result in the loss and squashing of critical neighbor information.Moreover, the limited number of nodes in each mini-batch restricts the model's capacity to capture the global characteristic of the graph. In this paper, we propose LGMformer, a novel MGT model that employs a two-stage augmented interaction strategy, transitioning from local to global perspectives, to address the aforementioned bottlenecks.The local interaction augmentation (LIA) presents a neighbor-target interaction Transformer (NTIformer) to acquire an insightful understanding of the co-interaction patterns between neighbors and the target node, resulting in a locally effective token list that serves as input for the MGT. In contrast, global interaction augmentation (GIA) adopts a cross-attention mechanism to incorporate entire graph prototypes into the target node epresentation, thereby compensating for the global graph information to ensure a more comprehensive perception. To this end, LGMformer achieves the enhancement of node representations under the MGT paradigm.Experimental results related to node classification on the ten benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. A novel Follow-the-Perturbed-Leader type algorithm is proposed and analyzed for solving general long-term constrained optimization problems in online manner, where the objective and constraints are arbitrarily generated and not necessarily convex. In each period, random linear perturbation and strongly concave perturbation are incorporated in primal and dual directions, respectively, to the offline oracle, and a global minimax point is searched as the solution. Based on a proposed expected static cumulative regret, we derive the first sublinear $O(T^{8/9})$ regret complexity for this class of problems. The proposed algorithm is applied to tackle a long-term (extreme value) constrained river pollutant source identification problem, validate the theoretical results and exhibit superior performance compared to existing methods.

The use of reinforcement learning (RL) in practical applications requires considering sub-optimal outcomes, which depend on the agent's familiarity with the uncertain environment. Dynamically adjusting the level of epistemic risk over the course of learning can tactically achieve reliable optimal policy in safety-critical environments and tackle the sub-optimality of a static risk level. In this work, we introduce a novel framework, Distributional RL with Online Risk Adaption (DRL-ORA), which can quantify the aleatory and epistemic uncertainties compositely and dynamically select the epistemic risk levels via solving a total variation minimization problem online. The risk level selection can be efficiently achieved through grid search using a Follow-The-Leader type algorithm, and its offline oracle is related to "satisficing measure" (in the decision analysis community) under a special modification of the loss function. We show multiple classes of tasks where DRL-ORA outperforms existing methods that rely on either a fixed risk level or manually predetermined risk level adaption. Given the simplicity of our modifications, we believe the framework can be easily incorporated into most RL algorithm variants.

Graph Neural Networks have emerged as an effective machine learning tool for multi-disciplinary tasks such as pharmaceutical molecule classification and chemical reaction prediction, because they can model non-euclidean relationships between different entities. Particle crushing, as a significant field of civil engineering, describes the breakage of granular materials caused by the breakage of particle fragment bonds under the modeling of numerical simulations, which motivates us to characterize the mechanical behaviors of particle crushing through the connectivity of particle fragments with Graph Neural Networks (GNNs). However, there lacks an open-source large-scale particle crushing dataset for research due to the expensive costs of laboratory tests or numerical simulations. Therefore, we firstly generate a dataset with 45,000 numerical simulations and 900 particle types to facilitate the research progress of machine learning for particle crushing. Secondly, we devise a hybrid framework based on GNNs to predict particle crushing strength in a particle fragment view with the advances of state of the art GNNs. Finally, we compare our hybrid framework against traditional machine learning methods and the plain MLP to verify its effectiveness. The usefulness of different features is further discussed through the gradient attribution explanation w.r.t the predictions. The absence of transparency and explainability hinders the clinical adoption of Machine learning (ML) algorithms. Although various methods of explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) have been suggested, there is a lack of literature that delves into their practicality and assesses them based on criteria that could foster trust in clinical environments. To address this gap this study evaluates two popular XAI methods used for explaining predictive models in the healthcare context in terms of whether they (i) generate domain-appropriate representation, i.e. coherent with respect to the application task, (ii) impact clinical workflow and (iii) are consistent. To that end, explanations generated at the cohort and patient levels were analysed. The paper reports the first benchmarking of the XAI methods applied to risk prediction models obtained by evaluating the concordance between generated explanations and the trigger of a future clinical deterioration episode recorded by the data collection system. We carried out an analysis using two Electronic Medical Records (EMR) datasets sourced from Australian major hospitals. The findings underscore the limitations of state-of-the-art XAI methods in the clinical context and their potential benefits. We discuss these limitations and contribute to the theoretical development of trustworthy XAI solutions where clinical decision support guides the choice of intervention by suggesting the pattern or drivers for clinical deterioration in the future.

In this paper, we strive to develop an interpretable GNNs' inference paradigm, termed MSInterpreter, which can serve as a plug-and-play scheme readily applicable to various GNNs' baselines. Unlike the most existing explanation methods, MSInterpreter provides a Message-passing Selection scheme(MSScheme) to select the critical paths for GNNs' message aggregations, which aims at reaching the self-explaination instead of post-hoc explanations. In detail, the elaborate MSScheme is designed to calculate weight factors of message aggregation paths by considering the vanilla structure and node embedding components, where the structure base aims at weight factors among node-induced substructures; on the other hand, the node embedding base focuses on weight factors via node embeddings obtained by one-layer GNN.Finally, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach on graph classification benchmarks., Comment: 6 pages, 1 figures

Axions mix with neutral pions after the QCD phase transition through their common coupling to the radiation bath via a Chern-Simons term, as a consequence of the $U(1)$ anomaly. The non-equilibrium effective action that describes this mixing phenomenon is obtained to second order in the coupling of neutral pions and axions to photons. We show that a misaligned axion condensate induces a neutral pion condensate after the QCD phase transition. The dynamics of the pion condensate displays long and short time scales and decays on the longer time scale exhibiting a phenomenon akin to the ``purification'' in a Kaon beam. On the intermediate time scales the macroscopic pion condensate is proportional to a condensate of the abelian Chern-Simons term induced by the axion. We argue that the coupling to the common bath also induces kinetic mixing. We obtain the axion and pion populations, and these exhibit thermalization with the bath. The mutual coupling to the bath induces long-lived axion-neutral pion coherence independent of initial conditions. Modern-day accelerator neutrino facilities are excellent venues for searches for new-physics particles. Many distinct new-physics models predict overlapping signatures and phenomenology in these experiments. In this work, we advocate for the adoption of simplified frameworks when studying these types of new-physics signatures, which are characterized by a small number of primary variables, including particle masses, lifetimes, and production and decay modes/rates that most directly control signal event rates and kinematics. In particular, taking the example of long-lived particles that decay inside a neutrino detector as a test case, we study formulate and study simplified frameworks in the context of light scalars/fermions produced in kaon decays which then decay into final states containing an electron-positron pair. We show that using these simplified frameworks can allow for individual experimental analyses to be applicable to a wide variety of specific model scenarios. As a side benefit, we demonstrate that using this approach can allow for the T2K collaboration, by reinterpreting its search for Heavy Neutral Leptons, to be capable of setting world-leading limits on the Higgs-Portal Scalar model. Furthermore, we argue the simplified framework interpretation can serve as a bridge to model identification in the hopeful detection of a new-physics signal. As an illustration, we perform a first determination of the likelihood that, in the presence of a new-physics signal in a detector like the DUNE ND-GAr, multiple different new-physics hypotheses (such as the Higgs-Portal Scalar and Heavy Neutral Lepton ones) can be disentangled. The mutual interference between similar radar systems can result in reduced radar sensitivity and increased false alarm rates. To address the synchronous and asynchronous interference mitigation problems in similar radar systems, we first propose herein two slow-time coding schemes to modulate the pulses within a coherent processing interval (CPI) for a single-input-single-output (SISO) scenario. Specifically, the first coding scheme relies on Doppler shifting and the second one is devised based on an optimization approach. We further extend our discussion to the more general case of multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) radars and propose an efficient algorithm to design waveforms to mitigate mutual interference in such systems. The proposed coding schemes are computationally efficient in practice and the incorporation of the coding schemes requires only a slight modification of the existing systems. Our numerical examples indicate that the proposed coding schemes can reduce the interference power level in a desired area of the cross-ambiguity function significantly.
