Ethical consumption is a domain of consumer research that focuses on individuals' ethical concerns when making consumption decisions. Owing to its enormous potential as a research domain, ethical consumption has gained increasing importance, especially in view of the impact of consumption choices on the environment and society as a whole. This study consolidates the existing body of information on ethical consumption through a systematic literature review (SLR) employing the SPAR‐4‐SLR methodology in conjunction with the ADO‐TCM framework. An extensive search was conducted using the Scopus and Web of Science databases, carefully selecting 125 publications related to ethical consumption from 2002 to 2023. Next, a comprehensive descriptive analysis was conducted to identify the most substantial gaps in the literature and propose concrete directions for future research. Scholars across academic fields can utilize these findings and guidelines to inform their research, while practitioners can implement ethical consumption behavioral philosophies in their sustainable business practices. A circular economy (CE) addresses the shift in economic systems from an unsustainable linear approach to a sustainable circular approach through start-ups and entrepreneurial ecosystems (EE). A single level of focus on CE research limits an understanding of the mechanisms fostering a transition towards CE. We conduct a systematic review of the macro–meso–micro interconnections between start-ups and EE in CE using bibliometric and content analyses to scope the literature without time boundaries. This exercise led to 90 articles from the Web of Science and Scopus databases. We contribute to literature on entrepreneurship and CE by building an integrative multi-level framework linked to the just and safe planetary boundaries by bridging macro-level explanations (public policies, regulations and infrastructure) and the meso-level (circular supply chains and circular ecosystems) and micro-level (circular start-ups and circular business models). The neuromarketing phenomenon has led to a makeover in the marketing area, and its application in the business world has generated a better insight into understanding diverse consumer behavior. This comprehensive study delves into the multifaceted world of neuromarketing. Employing a systematic literature review approach and reviewing 51 articles from the Web of Science database, the study aims to provide a holistic view of the neuromarketing field, offering valuable insights and directions for future research and practical application in the business and academic world. The key results of this study are classified into six distinct research themes: 1. Evolution of Neuromarketing, 2. Neuromarketing Definitions and Neuromarketing Tools, 3. Neuromarketing in Practice, 4. Social Value of Neuromarketing, 5. Neuromarketing and Consumer Behavior, and 6. Neuromarketing for Sustainable Business Development. The results of the study are based on the 4W framework (What, Where, Why, and How) and the TCCM framework (Themes, Contexts, Characteristics, and Methodology). The study underscores the significance of neuromarketing to businesses and serves as a provocative call to action for businesses to study its potential which traditional marketing techniques may overlook. This study is notable for its investigation of theoretical evolution, definitions, tools, practices, social value, and influence on consumer behavior within the discipline. Its contribution unfolds to sustainable business development, where neuromarketing can facilitate sustainable products and practices by understanding consumer behavior. This study presents valuable insights and sets the stage for future research through theoretical advancements in neuromarketing. While the exponential growth of entrepreneurial ecosystem research has dramatically increased our understanding of the role of context in entrepreneurial outcomes, our knowledge of entrepreneurial ecosystems and environmentally sustainable entrepreneurship is still fragmented. There is ambiguity on how entrepreneurial ecosystems influence sustainable entrepreneurship and what factors facilitate or constrain sustainable entrepreneurship. We attempt to take stock of the extant scholarship on entrepreneurial ecosystems and synthesize studies examining their linkages with sustainability. We systematically reviewed 77 articles identified in the World of Science and Scopus databases to discuss the main themes. The content analysis uncovered four key themes: (a) how entrepreneurial ecosystems become more sustainable, (b) the role of entrepreneurs, (c) the role of universities, and (d) the outcomes of sustainable ecosystems. The findings reveal that interactions between different actors, including customers, suppliers, institutions, governments, and universities, can result in a sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystem. The novelty of our study arises from integrating extant studies on entrepreneurial ecosystem and sustainability in a systematic and replicable manner. We observed heightened attention to the environmental challenges in ecosystem literature and entrepreneurs' expanded roles in generating ecological and social value. Future studies can further evaluate the effectiveness of entrepreneurial ecosystems to examine whether creating an entrepreneurial ecosystem has a similar value while achieving sustainable development goals across varied contexts. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to analyse through a systematic literature review the evolution of the theme of environmental social and governance (ESG) in universities, correlating variables and presenting a panorama for Latin American universities. Design/methodology/approach: This paper uses a systematic literature review approach. The Web of Science database was used for data collection, and a set of keywords (Environmental, Social and Governance × Universities) and a classification method were used, resulting in 111 articles classified in the Zotero software. After classification, these publications were analysed in the VOSviewer software. Findings: The main evidence about ESG and universities shows that its relevance has been growing worldwide with an emphasis on England, the USA, Spain, followed by Brazil in fourth place regarding the number of papers published worldwide. The most representative areas identified were governance, sustainability, higher education, sustainable campus, environmental science, ecology, science and technology. The journals presenting more published papers under the topic are International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education, Journal of Cleaner Production and Sustainability. As for the most relevant authors, the Europeans Lozano and Leal Filho, Velasquez from Mexico and Brandli from Brazil were identified. As for institutions, the University Durham, State University System of Florida and State University of Campinas do Brazil stand out. Research limitations/implications: As the main limitation of the study is related to the sample of articles. This study is focused on the analysis of publications from the last decade, presenting only 111 results. However, this restriction in the timeline is justified as it is a new topic; this study was also limited to the use of a single database; in this sense, future research can carry out a more comprehensive review of the sustainability literature covering periods prior to a decade and an analysis in other databases. Originality/value: These results provide a basis for improving sustainability in universities and ESG in Latin America. This study aims to systematically identify, review, and assess the progression of sustainability orientation literature and provide an agenda for future research. We employed a systematic literature review (SLR) technique to select a sample of 93 studies from five databases: Web of Sciences, Scopus, Science Direct, Wiley Online Library, and Emerald Insight. The content analysis, aided by MaxQDA, was utilized for review and analysis purposes. The findings suggest that extant research on sustainability orientation can be categorized into six key themes: drivers of sustainability orientation, consequences/outcomes of sustainability orientation, multiple strategic orientations paradigm, elements of sustainability orientation, and crowdfunding. The current study critically evaluates the existing scholarship on the topic, reveals the limitations and knowledge gaps in the current body of literature, and suggests potential avenues for further advancement of knowledge in this area. – This study embarks on a comprehensive journey through the factors influencing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance by employing a two-fold approach: a bibliometric analysis and a systematic literature review. Scopus, a prominent scientific database, was utilized to examine publications spanning the years 2014–2023. The article selection process followed the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines. Biblioshiny, R Studio software, version 4.2.0, was used for bibliometric analysis. – Bibliometric analysis identified the most influential articles, journals, countries, authors, and themes in the field. The systematic literature review established seven key themes as the fundamental factors influencing ESG performance. Moreover, future research directions were suggested and discussed in this article. – The findings offer valuable guidance to the academic community, industry practitioners, and policymakers for real-world applications. Industrial manufacturing is the largest end-use sector in terms of both final energy demand and greenhouse gas emissions (more than 30% of the total); its increase is rapidly altering the world climate. The need to mitigate the environmental impacts of manufacturing processes makes energy efficiency a key success factor for sustainable production. Accordingly, the scientific community's interest in energy management has grown considerably, resulting in several literature reviews on energy modelling and production systems analysis, emissions calculation, sustainability tools and benchmarking techniques. However, a comprehensive analysis of methods and tools aimed at improving energy awareness and assessing their effects on energy efficiency is lacking. To address this gap, this paper undertakes a systematic literature review of energy assessment methods and tools. From the 1367 papers retrieved by searching scientific literature databases, 64 scientific articles met the inclusion criteria and were analysed in detail. The study aims to provide scholars with a picture of the current state of scientific research and to identify the scientific works that could help industry practitioners in energy management. Following the ISO 50001 framework, the methods and tools were divided into three main groups (i.e. energy analysis, energy evaluation and energy-saving measures methods) and the specific findings relating to each group were synthesized.
