Background: Store-and-forward (SAF) tele-dermatology (TD) platforms could help promote coordination between hospital and general practitioners (GPs). However, very little data exists on the performance accuracy and opinions of GPs participating in this type of project in France., Methods: We report on the diagnostic and management plan accuracy of an SAF-TD platform developed for neighbouring GPs around our hospital compared with routine face-to-face (FTF) dermatological consultation in our department. We also compared the accuracy of SAF-TD with that of the participating GPs. Lastly, we collected feedback from GPs after their participation in this project., Results: Overall, 298 patients were included by 58 GPs between November 2016 and January 2020, of whom 169 (57%) were female, and with a median age of 44.5 years (range 0-96). The diagnostic accuracy of TD was 62% (n=184/298) for the initial hypothesis and 80% (n=239/298) for aggregated diagnostic accuracy. Management plan accuracy for TD was 81% (n=225/277). At least 43% of consultations (n=127/298) met the criteria for preventable consultation. Diagnostic accuracy for the initial hypothesis was significantly lower for GPs than for TD (Odd Ratio [OR]=0.34; 95% Confidence Interval [95% CI]: 0.20-0.56; p<0.0001), as was management plan accuracy (OR=0.23; 95% CI: 0.10-0.46; p<0.0001). Among the responding GPs, 78% (n=29) reported very high satisfaction and 97% would consider integrating this type of programme in their long-term practice, but they highlighted the time-consuming nature of the platform (46%) and the lack of financial compensation (44%)., Conclusion: SAF-TD in coordination with GPs seems safe and efficient in the management of outpatients, and enjoys a high satisfaction rate among GPs, despite its time-consuming nature and the lack of financial compensation. Background: We have limited data on the treatment of calcinosis cutis associated with systemic sclerosis and dermatomyositis., Objective: To assess the efficacy and tolerance of available treatments for calcinosis cutis based on previously published studies., Methods: We performed a systematic review of studies published in Medline, Embase, and the Cochrane library during 1980-July 2018. The strength of clinical data was graded according to the modified Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine levels of evidence., Results: In all, 30 studies (288 patients) were included. Eleven therapeutic classes, surgery, and physical treatments were identified as potential treatment options for calcinosis cutis. On the basis of results of a small randomized controlled trial and 4 retrospective studies, low-dose warfarin should not be used for calcinosis cutis (level IB evidence). The results of several studies suggest diltiazem and bisphosphonates might be useful treatment options (level IV). Considering biologic therapies, rituximab has shown promising results in treating both dermatomyositis and systemic sclerosis, whereas tumor necrosis factor inhibitors might be useful for treating juvenile dermatomyositis (level IV). Objectives: While higher infliximab (IFX) trough concentrations (TCs) are associated with better outcomes in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), they could pose a risk for adverse events (AEs), including IFX-induced skin lesions. Therefore, we studied correlations between IFX TCs and occurrence of AEs in paediatric IBD patients., Methods: In this single-centre study, all children with Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) receiving IFX maintenance therapy who underwent proactive drug monitoring between March 2015 and August 2022 were included. IFX doses/intervals/TCs and patient characteristics were systematically registered, as well as AEs and skin lesions appearance., Results: A total of 109 patients (72 CD and 37 UC) contributed 2913 IFX TCs. During a median follow-up of 3.0 [1.5-4.5] years, we observed 684 AEs in 101 patients and 49 skin lesions in 35 patients. There was no significant difference (p = .467) in median TCs between patients with and without skin lesions. However, higher median IFX doses were associated with an increased hazard rate of skin lesions [HR 1.084 (1.024-1.148), p = .005], in addition to female sex [2.210 (1.187-5.310), p = .016] and diagnosis of CD [1.695 (1.241-1.877), p = .011]. Considering IFX therapeutic TC cut-offs of 5.0 and 9.0 µg/mL, there was no significant difference in AE rate (p = .749 and p = .833, respectively). Also, no significant association between IFX doses and AE rate (p = .159)., Conclusions: Increasing the IFX dose to achieve therapeutic TCs may not increase the overall risk of AEs in paediatric IBD patients. Aim: Our aim was to assess the prevalence of adverse effects (AEs) pertaining to the use and withdrawal of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) in dermatological outpatients., Patients and Methods: We conducted a retrospective study between January 2013 and June 2014 that included consecutive patients currently or previously receiving HCQ seen in our department. AEs were collated using a standardized questionnaire and validated by clinical and laboratory examination. Drug causality was evaluated using the updated French drug reaction causality assessment method. The main evaluation criterion was the prevalence of AEs in which HCQ had an intrinsic imputability score of I>2., Results: We included 102 patients (93 of whom were women, with a median age of 44.5; range: 22-90years). HCQ was given for cutaneous lupus in most cases (n=70). At least one AE was reported for 55 patients. Among the 91 reported AEs, 59 (65%) had an HCQ intrinsic imputability score I>2. AEs were responsible for permanent HCQ discontinuation in 19 cases. Of these, 8 were unrelated to HCQ based on imputability score. The most common AEs associated with HCQ were gastrointestinal and cutaneous signs. Of the 8 patients diagnosed with retinopathy, only 3 were confirmed after reevaluation., Conclusion: AEs associated with HCQ were reported for over 50% of patients and were responsible for permanent HCQ discontinuation in one-third of cases. Background: The public perception of dermatology has been poorly investigated in Europe., Objective: To determine the general public's perception of dermatologists in Europe., Methods: This multinational, cross-sectional study was conducted within the framework of the EADV population-based survey on the 'Burden of skin diseases in Europe'. Data were collected using a web-based online survey on a representative sample of the general populations aged 18 years or more of 27 European countries. Proportional quota sampling with replacement design was used for each country., Results: A total of 44,689 adult participants responded to the questionnaire, of whom 18,004 visited a dermatologist in the preceding 3 years. The dermatologist was the second most often visited specialist among all medical specialties, with 69.7%, 72.1%, 42.1% and 78.1% of participants in Western Europe (WE), Eastern Europe (EE), Northern Europe (NE) and Southern Europe (SE), respectively, having consulted a dermatologist over the past 24 months. Most participants across all regions agreed that the dermatologist was the first healthcare provider for chronic skin diseases (61.9% in WE, 69.8% in EE, 45.7% in NE and 60.4% in SE) and for skin cancers (65.5% in WE, 67.6% in EE, 42.4% in NE and 63.0% in SE). The five most common reasons for visiting a dermatologist among all participants were: naevi check-up or skin cancer screening (20.2%), chronic skin diseases (16.5%), acute skin diseases (12.4%), cosmetic advice or procedure (10.2%), hyperpigmentation or congenital lesions (9.1%) and hair or nail disorder (7.7%). Most participants (84.6% in WE, 82.5% in EE, 78.3% in NE and 82.8% in SE) were very swatisfied/somewhat satisfied with the service provided., Conclusion: Our study findings underscore the central role of dermatologists in skin health and highlights them as valued and trusted care providers across Europe. Understanding the perceived position of the dermatologist is the first step in improving health policy development and implementation. Background: Several large studies on the burden of skin diseases have been performed in patients recruited in hospitals or clinical centres, thus missing people with skin diseases who do not undergo a clinical consultation., Objectives: To evaluate the burden of the most common dermatological diseases in adult patients across Europe, in terms of quality of life, work life, and stigmatization., Methods: Population-based survey on a representative sample of the European general population aged 18 years or older. Participants who declared to have had one or more skin problem or disease during the previous 12 months completed the Dermatology Life Quality Index questionnaire, and answered questions regarding the impact of their skin disease on daily and work life, anxiety/depression, and stigmatization., Results: The study population included 19,915 individuals, 44.7% of whom were men. Quality of life was particularly impaired in people with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), and sexually transmitted diseases. About a half of participants with acne, alopecia, or chronic urticaria, and about 40% of those with atopic dermatitis (AD), skin cancers, or psoriasis reported a modest to extremely large effect of the disease on their quality of life. Overall, 88.1% of participants considered their skin disease as embarrassing in personal life and 83% in work life. About half of the respondents reported sleeping difficulty, feeling tired, and impact of the disease on taking care of themselves. Concerning stigmatization, 14.5% felt to have been rejected by others because of the skin disease, and 19.2% to have been looked at with disgust. Anxiety and depression were frequently reported by patients with all the diseases., Conclusions: Skin diseases may heavily affect patients' daily and work life, and cause feelings of stigmatization. Having a chronic disease is one of the most consistent factors associated with vaccine uptake for adults in the general population, but vaccination beliefs and behaviors specific to those with chronic skin diseases have not been explored. The objective of this study was to explore factors associated with vaccine uptake and barriers to vaccination in adults with psoriasis and eczema. Virtual, video-based semi-structured interviews were performed with adults who self-reported a diagnosis of psoriasis or eczema. Interviews explored themes around healthcare decision making, perceived risks/benefits to vaccination, barriers, and vaccine knowledge. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. Of 34 study participants, 25 participants (74%) were females and 9 (26%) were males, with a mean age of 50.8 years (SD: 16.4, range: 24-71 yrs). Half of participants (n = 17) had psoriasis, and half (n = 17) had eczema. Participants recognized both personal and societal benefits to vaccines. Common vaccination barriers identified were access to appointments, concerns about side effects, and misinformation. Physicians, friends/family, and media, including internet resources, were health information resources identified by patients. These results summarize the unique patient perspective around vaccine uptake in adults with eczema and psoriasis and represent an important first step in a multi-pronged approach to improve vaccination rates in adults with chronic skin diseases., (© 2023. Contrast media (CM) are an indispensable part of modern medical imaging. Adverse reactions to CM are uncommon, but frequently involve cutaneous symptoms. This two-part article reviews adverse events secondary to CM that are relevant to the practising dermatologist. Part 1 covers the classification of CM, immediate hypersensitivity reactions to CM and the newly described condition, gadolinium deposition disease. Given that there has only been two case reports to our knowledge of a delayed adverse reaction to gadolinium-based CM, this second part will focus on cutaneous delayed reactions caused by iodinated CM (ICM). Delayed hypersensitivity reactions to ICM commonly present as maculopapular exanthems, but more rarely, they can manifest as fixed drug eruptions, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, drug-related eosinophilia and systemic symptoms, Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis, symmetrical drug-related intertriginous and flexural exanthema, graft-versus-host disease, vasculitis and iododerma. Calcinosis cutis is defined as abnormal deposition of calcium salts in the skin and subcutaneous tissues. Dystrophic calcification, the most common form of calcinosis cutis, is associated with autoimmune connective tissue diseases. This condition is associated with severe pain and can affect the patient's quality of life and lead to long-term disability. Treatment is often challenging, and there is a very limited evidence base for potential treatments of calcinosis cutis associated with systemic sclerosis and dermatomyositis. Inkless tattoo is very similar to microneedling, a minimally invasive procedure stimulating the wound-healing cascade contributing to elastin and collagen formation as well as neovascularization. This technique has not been reported as a potential therapeutic option for calcinosis cutis. Here, we present a patient with calcinosis cutis in the setting of dermatomyositis that responded dramatically to inkless tattoo application. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic inflammatory condition of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract that is subdivided into Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). CD is characterized by involvement of the entire GI tract, while UC mainly affects the distal GI tract. Moreover, both CD and UC can present with extraintestinal manifestations (EIMs) of the disease affecting multiple organ systems including the hepatobiliary tract, kidney, bones, eyes, joints, and skin. These complications can cause significant morbidity and negatively impact the quality of life for IBD patients. Although the pathogenesis of EIMs is not clearly elucidated, it is postulated that the diseased GI mucosa similarly stimulates excess immune responses at the extraintestinal sites. Cutaneous EIMs occur in up to 15% of patients with IBD, often predating their IBD diagnosis. They are categorized into (1) specific, (2) reactive, (3) associated, and (4) treatment-induced. Background: Tumour necrosis factor (TNF) antagonists are an efficacious therapy used in the management of several immune-mediated inflammatory diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and psoriasis. However, since being prescribed more widely, reports of new-onset psoriatic lesions have began to emerge in the literature and are known as paradoxical psoriasis., Aim: To review the evidence available in both the dermatology and gastroenterology literature pertaining to the entity known as paradoxical psoriasis as it relates to IBD and to create a comprehensive guide to assist clinicians who treat this challenging patient population., Methods: A literature search was conducted in PubMed to identify manuscripts that presented, discussed or summarised data pertaining to paradoxical psoriasis presenting in individuals with IBD., Results: Paradoxical psoriasis is now thought to be a contradictory effect of TNF antagonist therapy leading to psoriatic lesions often within the first year of treatment. The underlying pathogenesis, although not completely understood, is likely related to an imbalance of inflammatory cytokines. The histological appearance, while similar to classical psoriasis, does have unique features. The clinical presentation can vary among patients but often presents during maintenance therapy for inflammatory bowel disease. Treatment options should be determined based upon the severity of the skin lesion, activity of the underlying inflammatory bowel disease and the patient's unique clinical history., Conclusions: The approach to paradoxical psoriasis in IBD should be discussed with a multidisciplinary team to optimise and preserve intestinal disease remission and to ensure the resolution of debilitating skin lesions., (© 2022 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.)

Objectives To describe the clinical and pathological features of biopsy-proven cutaneous vasculitis (CV) associated with SLE, focusing on diagnosis classification and impact on overall SLE activity. Methods Retrospective multicentric cohort study including SLE patients with biopsy-proven CV identified by (i) data from pathology departments of three university hospitals and (ii) a national call for cases. SLE was defined according to 1997 revised ACR and/or 2019 ACR/EULAR criteria. CV diagnosis was confirmed histologically and classified by using the dermatological addendum of the Chapel Hill classification. SLE activity and flare severity at the time of CV diagnosis were assessed independently of vasculitis items with the SELENA-SLEDAI and SELENA-SLEDAI Flare Index. Results Overall, 39 patients were included; 35 (90%) were female. Cutaneous manifestations included mostly palpable purpura (n  = 21; 54%) and urticarial lesions (n  = 18; 46%); lower limbs were the most common location (n  = 33; 85%). Eleven (28%) patients exhibited extracutaneous vasculitis. A higher prevalence of Sjögren's syndrome (51%) was found compared with SLE patients without CV from the French referral centre group (12%, P  < 0.0001) and the Swiss SLE Cohort (11%, P  < 0.0001). CV was mostly classified as urticarial vasculitis (n  = 14, 36%) and cryoglobulinaemia (n  = 13, 33%). Only 2 (5%) patients had no other cause than SLE to explain the CV. Sixty-one percent of patients had inactive SLE. Conclusion SLE-related vasculitis seems very rare and other causes of vasculitis should be ruled out before considering this diagnosis. Background: There are few population‐based studies assessing the prevalence of skin diseases. Objectives: To estimate the prevalence of five chronic skin inflammatory diseases, i.e. atopic dermatitis (AD), psoriasis, alopecia areata (AA), vitiligo and hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) in France, using validated self‐diagnostic questionnaires. Methods: Population‐based study using a representative sample of the French general population aged more than 15 years and sampling with replacement design. All participants were asked (ii) to fill in a specific questionnaire including socio‐demographic characteristics, (ii) to declare if they have been diagnosed with one or more skin problem or skin diseases during their life, and (iii) to fill in five validated self‐reported questionnaires for AD, psoriasis, AA, vitiligo and HS. Results: A total of 20.012 adult participants responded to the questionnaire of whom 9760 were men (48.8%) and 10.252 (51.2%) were women. We identified a prevalence of 4.65% for AD (931 individuals), 4.42% for psoriasis (885 individuals), 1.04% for AA (210 individuals), 0.46% for vitiligo (93 individuals) and 0.15% for HS (29 individuals), respectively. Limitations: Questionnaire‐based study and possible disease misclassifications. Background: The histological characteristic of hypertensive leg ulcers (HLU) is the presence of "arteriolosclerosis." The pertinence of performing a skin biopsy to diagnose HLU is questionable, as cutaneous arteriolosclerosis may be related to patient comorbidities. The objective here was to evaluate the frequency of arteriolosclerosis in skin leg biopsies performed in patients without ulcer and in control patients with HLU.Methods: We performed a retrospective study between January 2013 and July 2014. Patients were included if they had undergone a deep skin biopsy on the lower limbs, in the absence of any leg ulcer. Controls were patients with typical HLU.Results: Fifty-eight patients and 6 controls were included. Hypertension was present in 25 patients (43%). Arteriolosclerosis, defined as fibrous endarteritis, was present in 35 out of 58 patients (60%) and in all of the controls. No hyalinosis or hyperplastic proliferative arteriolosclerosis was observed in the patients or controls. Only age was an independent factor associated with the presence of cutaneous arteriolosclerosis (p &x#3c; 0.0001).Conclusion: Cutaneous arteriolosclerosis is significantly and independently associated with age. Recent studies have emphasized the value of drug patch tests, in addition to, prick and intradermal tests to determine the molecule responsible for cutaneous adverse drug reactions (CADR), also known as drug eruptions. The value of drug patch tests depends on the clinical features of the CADR, and they are valuable in the investigation of drug reactions, such as generalized eczema, systemic contact dermatitis, maculopapular rashes, toxic epidermal necrolysis, and fixed drug eruptions. Their sensitivity also depends on the particular drug involved. Guidelines for performing prick, ID and patch tests, published in 2001, are analyzed in the present article. We also report on the information published more recently on how to perform the tests, how to interpret them, new drugs reported to yield positive reactions and, finally, how to define the relevance and the specificity of drug patch tests in the workup of cutaneous drug allergies. Consumer preferences, safety, and sustainability aspects of conventional cosmetic ingredients have contributed to an increase in the demand for natural cosmetic ingredients and products. Naturally derived active cosmetic agents and excipients may come into contact with various naturally occurring and synthetic contaminants throughout the supply chain, and substantiating their safety is essential. This review examines the safety and legislative requirements applicable to natural cosmetic ingredients in the European Union (EU). Cosmetic safety requirements include technical data based on the ingredient profile, presence of hazards and the risks associated with the intended conditions of use. The hazard analysis includes screening for microbial contaminants such as aerobic mesophilic bacteria, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans; chemical contaminants such as lead, cadmium, arsenic, and mercury; and naturally occurring toxins, such as allergens. The toxicological assessment considers both local effects (such as skin sensitisation, eye/skin irritation, and photo-induced effects) and systemic effects (including acute dermal toxicity, sub-acute and sub-chronic toxicity, mutagenicity and carcinogenicity, reproductive toxicity, and toxicokinetics). The EU legislative requirements prohibit the use of animal-based tests for the toxicological evaluation of cosmetic ingredients, paving the way for alternatives termed as New Approach Methodologies (NAMs). The validation of NAMs is critical for their wider usage, and despite advancements, few have been validated, particularly for systemic toxicity testing. The article presents a case study of a 54-year-old Algerian woman was admitted for erythroderma, localized blisters and erosions. It discusses the patch test performed using components of essential oils, herbals and Nigella sativa oil (NSO) used by the patient. It also discusses results of the biopsy which showed subepidermal blister with eosinophils and linear deposition of C3 and IgG at the dermo-epidermal junction.

Inflammatory skin diseases are a group of diseases caused by the disruption of skin tissue due to immune system disorders. Histone modification plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis and treatment of chronic inflammatory skin diseases, encompassing a wide range of conditions, including psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, lupus, systemic sclerosis, contact dermatitis, lichen planus, and alopecia areata. Analyzing histone modification as a significant epigenetic regulatory approach holds great promise for advancing our understanding and managing these complex disorders. Additionally, therapeutic interventions targeting histone modifications have emerged as promising strategies for effectively managing inflammatory skin disorders. This comprehensive review provides an overview of the diverse types of histone modification. We discuss the intricate association between histone modification and prevalent chronic inflammatory skin diseases. We also review current and potential therapeutic approaches that revolve around modulating histone modifications. Finally, we investigated the prospects of research on histone modifications in the context of chronic inflammatory skin diseases, paving the way for innovative therapeutic interventions and improved patient outcomes. Simple Summary: Skin lesions in the context of MDS/MPN are frequent and poorly understood in the current literature. This paper thoroughly reviews the dermatoses reported so far in these patients based on their relationship with prognosis and its main clinical, histopathological and genetical features. Different histological patterns and mutations have been described in the literature. However, the true nature of the cells in these cutaneous infiltrates as well as their mutational background and the link with the underlying hematological neoplasm have to be further investigate in order to clarify their biological significance and the main therapeutic implications. A classification proposal is developed with the aim of helping dermatologists, hematologists and pathologists to recognize them when present in these complex patients. The figures and tables included in the text and in the supplemental material facilitate the understanding of each of the proposed categories. In addition, the main publications in which these dermatoses have been previously treated are indicated. Myeloid neoplasms and acute leukemias include different entities that have been recently re-classified taking into account molecular and clinicopathological features. The myelodysplastic syndrome/myeloproliferative neoplasm (MDS/MPN) category comprises a heterogeneous group of hybrid neoplastic myeloid diseases characterized by the co-occurrence of clinical and pathological features of both myelodysplastic and myeloproliferative neoplasms. The most frequent entity in this category is chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML) which is, after acute myeloid leukemia (AML), the main myeloid disorder prone to develop cutaneous manifestations. Skin lesions associated with myelodysplastic and myeloproliferative neoplasms include a broad clinical, histopathological and molecular spectrum of lesions, poorly understood and without a clear-cut classification in the current medical literature. The aim of this review is to describe and classify the main clinical, histopathological and molecular patterns of cutaneous lesions in the setting of MDS/MPN in order to improve the diagnostic skills of the dermatologists, hematologists and pathologists who deal with these patients. Researchers active in the field of inflammatory skin diseases from the spectrum of dermatitis and eczema are well aware of a considerable overlap in the clinical pictures and proposed sets of diagnostic criteria for these diseases, which can hardly be overcome through the clinical or epidemiological research. In effect, patients are included in studies based on vague and overlapping criteria, while heterogeneous study populations may, in turn, lead to non-representative outcomes and continued confusion. In this narrative review, a systematics of diseases from the spectrum of dermatitis and eczema is proposed based on the origins of causative factors and the pathomechanisms involved. Difficulties in differentiating between these diseases are discussed, and the extent to which advances in the "omics" sciences might help to overcome them is considered. Of all the "omics" research in this field, more than 90% of the published papers were devoted to atopic dermatitis, with a striking underrepresentation of other diseases from the spectrum of dermatitis and eczema, conditions which collectively exceed the rates of atopic dermatitis by far. A greater "omics" research effort is urgently needed to tackle other dermatitides, like allergic, irritant and protein contact dermatitis, as well as radiation, seborrheic, stasis or autoimmune dermatitis. Atopic dermatitis findings should be validated not only against healthy donors but also other dermatitides. Annular dermatoses are a heterogeneous and extremely diverse group of skin diseases, which share in common annular, ring-like patterns with centrifugal spreading. Numerous skin diseases can sometimes display annular lesions, but some specific skin conditions are originally annular. Chronic urticaria is a common inflammatory skin disease affecting around 0.5–1% of the world’s population. The disease has a chronic indolent course which significantly affects the patient’s quality of life. Urticaria pathogenesis involves cross‑linking of immunoglobulin E (IgE) on mast cells causing degranulation which occurs by various pathways which leads to development of wheals and angioedema. The first‑line treatment for chronic urticaria is non‑sedating second‑generation H1 antihistamines (AHs). After the advent of anti‑IgE monoclonal antibody omalizumab, the response rate in resistant urticaria has improved significantly without any major adverse events. Other biologicals such as anti‑IgE, anti‑IL‑5, anti‑IL‑1, anti‑IL‑17, and anti‑CD20 monoclonal antibodies are under trial. These biologicals have better efficacy and safety profile as compared to conventional immunosuppressants. Even with the advances in the last decade, recurrence after stopping the therapy is common, and there is a need for better understanding of the pathogenesis and the drugs acting on the key pathways involved in urticaria. The efficacy and safety of baricitinib for treatment of atopic dermatitis have been demonstrated in clinical trials; however, very few real-life studies have been published to date. The Observatory of Chronic Inflammatory Skin Diseases (OMCCI) registry was initiated to prospectively determine the long-term impairment caused by chronic inflammatory dermatoses on patients’ lives. The study included 88 patients starting baricitinib for treatment of atopic dermatitis. Clinical evaluation and patient-reported outcomes were recorded at baseline and after 6 and 12 months. After 6 months and 1 year of follow-up, 65 and 47 patients, respectively, were still being treated with baricitinib. Treatment failure was the main reason for discontinuation. Only 1 patient stopped baricitinib because of a side-effect. After 1 year of follow-up, the mean Eczema Area and Severity Index score decreased significantly from 20.7 to 6.4; the percentage of patients with severe atopic dermatitis decreased from 42.9% to 6.5% and a significant improvement in most patientreported outcomes was noted. There was no difference in terms of efficacy whether or not patients were previously treated with dupilumab. The results remained stable after 6 and 12 months of treatment, which suggests a sustained efficacy of the treatment in patients who initially responded well. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic, relapsing and inflammatory skin disease. The impact of atopic dermatitis on the partners living with patients has been poorly investigated. The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of atopic dermatitis in the daily lives of adult patients and to assess the burden of the disease on their partners. A population-based study was conducted on a representative sample of the general population of French adults aged 18 years of age using stratified, proportional sampling with a replacement design. Data were collected on 1,266 atopic dermatitis patient-partner dyads (mean age of patients 41.6 years, 723 (57.1%) women). The mean age of partners was 41.8 years. Patient burden, measured by the Atopic Dermatitis Burden Scale for Adults (ABS-A) score, was closely related to the objective atopic dermatitis severity: the mean score in the mild group (29.5) was significantly lower than in the moderate (43.9) and severe groups (48.6) (p<0.0001). Partner burden, measured by the EczemaPartner score, was highly related to atopic dermatitis severity (p<0.0001). Daytime sleepiness, measured by the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, showed a mean score of 9.24 in patients and 9.01 in their partners, indicating impaired sleep. Atopic dermatitis was found to decrease sexual desire in 39% and 26% of partners and patients respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
