Purpose: Asset owners and maintainers need to make timely and well-informed maintenance decisions based on the actual or predicted condition of their physical assets. However, only few companies have succeeded to implement predictive maintenance (PdM) effectively. Therefore, this paper aims to identify why only few companies were able to successfully implement PdM. Design/methodology/approach: A multiple-case study including 13 cases in various industries in The Netherlands was conducted. This paper examined the choices made in practice to achieve PdM and possible dependencies between and motivations for these choices. Findings: An implementation process for PdM appeared to comprise four elements: a trigger, data collection, maintenance technique (MT) selection and decision-making. For each of these elements, several options were available. By identifying the choices made by companies in practice and mapping them on the proposed elements, logical combinations appeared. These combinations can provide insight into the PdM implementation process and may also lead to guidance on this topic. Further, while successful companies typically combined various techniques, the mostly applied techniques were still those based on previous experiences. Research limitations/implications: This research calls for better methods or procedures to guide the selection and use of suitable types of PdM, directed by the firm's ambition level and the available data. Originality/value: While it is important for firms to make suitable choices during implementation, the literature often focusses only on developing additional techniques for PdM. Two trumpet worms (Pectinariidae), which do not resemble the two known species: Lagis koreniMalmgren, 1866 and Amphictene auricoma (Müller, 1776), have recently been collected in the Dutch North Sea (Oyster Grounds). Their characteristics match those of Pectinaria belgica (Pallas, 1766), a species with a northern distribution. This paper summarizes the current state of knowledge of Dutch Pectinariidae and describes in detail the historical records of trumpet worms recorded in the Netherlands, along with the confusion around the species epithet belgica. Objective: Rectangular collimation is a popular method used in intraoral radiography to reduce patient exposure to ionizing radiation. One of the perceived drawbacks of rectangular collimation is the possibility of an increase in cone cut errors ultimately impacting the diagnostic value of the radiographs. Thus, the aim of this study was to explore the frequency of cone cut errors in radiographs taken using a rectangular collimator. Materials and methods: Radiographs taken using PSP plates at Academic Center for Dentistry Amsterdam in the Netherlands by staff and students from January to December 2015 were assessed for cone cut errors. The radiographs were grouped as bitewings, front teeth, inferior premolars and molars, and superior premolars and molars and categorized as no cone cut, cone cut but diagnostically usable, and cone cut but diagnostically not usable. The results were entered into Microsoft Excel and analyzed thereafter. Results: A total of 53,684 radiographs were assessed, 79% had no cone cut errors and consequently 21% had some degree of cone cut. However, the diagnostic value was unaffected in 18% of the radiographs with cone cut. Only 3% of the radiographs were deemed diagnostically unusable due to cone cut. The most common area of cone cut was in the premolar and molar areas while cone cut in the front teeth was least likely to be diagnostically unusable. Conclusion: Cone cut from the use of a rectangular collimator does not seem to result in an increase of diagnostically unusable radiographs. Thus, rectangular collimation should be preferred as it decreases the amount of radiation exposure to the patient while producing diagnostically usable radiographs and thus allowing the dental professional to adhere to the ALADA principle and practice radiation stewardship. Clinical relevance: Scientific rationale for the study: rectangular collimation is a method used to reduce patient exposure to ionizing radiation; however, this benefit is negligible if radiographs must be retaken due to cone cut errors that make the radiograph diagnostically unusable. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore the frequency of cone cut in radiographs taken using a rectangular collimator. Principal findings: cone cut was observed in 21% of the radiographs; however, only 3% of the radiographs were considered diagnostically unusable. Practical implications: rectangular collimation does not result in a high number of diagnostically unusable radiographs and should be used to reduce patient exposure to ionizing radiation. Upper respiratory tract infections are a significant cause of social‐ and disease burden worldwide. Currently, invasive and uncomfortable molecular detection methods are used for respiratory pathogen detection. We aimed to assess the ability and bearability of a rhinorrhea swab (RS) to detect respiratory pathogens in comparison to the combined nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swab (NP/OP). This study was performed at a Public Health Service severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus‐2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) testing facility between November and December 2022 in the Netherlands. Adults aged 16 years and older, being subjected to a standard of care NP/OP swab with nasal discharge, were included and received an additional RS. Respiratory pathogen detection was evaluated using SARS‐CoV‐2 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and multiplex ligation‐dependent probe amplification (MLPA) PCR. Bearability was evaluated using visual analog scale (VAS) scores and a questionnaire. A total of 100 adults with a mean age ± SD of 46 ± 16 years were included. The NP/OP swab detected 104 pathogens, the RS 83 pathogens (p < 0.001), and in total 108 respiratory pathogens were identified in 89 adults (89%). The ability to detect respiratory pathogens compared between the RS and the combined NP/OP swab revealed a sensitivity of 82% (95% CI 73%–89%) and specificity of 100% (95% CI 72%–100%). RS were significantly more bearable than the combined NP/OP swab (p value < 0.001). Therefore, nasal discharge found in adults can be used as an adequate reliable medium for respiratory pathogen detection using SARS‐CoV‐2 PCR and MLPA PCR. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Respiratory tract infections (RTI) in children remain a cause of disease burden worldwide. Nasopharyngeal (NP) & oropharyngeal (OP) swabs are used for respiratory pathogen detection, but hold disadvantages particularly for children, highlighting the importance and preference for a child friendly detection method. We aimed to evaluate the performance and tolerability of a rhinorrhea swab (RS) in detecting viral pathogens when compared to a combined OP(/NP) or mid‐turbinate (MT) nasal swab. This study was conducted between September 2021 and July 2022 in the Netherlands. Children aged 0−5 years, with an upper RTI and nasal discharge, were included and received a combined swab and a RS. Multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus‐2 PCR were used for viral pathogen detection. Tolerability was evaluated with a questionnaire and visual analog scale (VAS) scores. During 11 months 88 children were included, with a median age of 1.00 year [interquartile range 0.00−3.00]. In total 122 viral pathogens were detected in 81 children (92%). Sensitivity and specificity of the RS compared to a combined swab were respectively 97% (95% confidence interval [CI] 91%−100%) and 78% (95% CI 45%−94%). Rhinorrhea samples detected more pathogens than the (combined) nasal samples, 112 versus 108 respectively. Median VAS scores were significantly lower for the RS in both children (2 vs. 6) and their parents (0 vs. 5). A RS can therefore just as effectively/reliably detect viral pathogens as the combined swab in young children and is better tolerated by both children and their parents/caregivers. Background. Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are a heterogeneous group of neurodevelopmental disorders, characterized by the presence of various symptoms related to deficits in communication and social interactions as well as stereotyped and repetitive behavior. Increasing evidence indicates the contribution of genetic factors in the etiology of ASDs. Genetic diagnosis in ASDs is based on identifying chromosome aberrations, microaberrations and point mutations in specific genes. One of the diagnostic tools is multiplex ligase-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) with a set of probes dedicated to ASDs (SALSA MLPA P343 Autism-1; MRC-Holland BV, Amsterdam, the Netherlands) targeting the genes located in the regions 15q11-q13, 16p11 and the SHANK3 gene in the 22q13 region. Objectives. Our study included 240 patients referred to the clinical genetics unit because of ASDs and/or developmental delay and/or an intellectual disability. Before genetic testing, the patients underwent a comprehensive medical work-up. Material and methods. Multiplex ligase-dependent probe amplification was performed in 256 DNA samples from 240 probands and 16 family members using the SALSA MLPA P343 Autism-1 probe mix (MRC-Holland BV) according to the manufacturer's protocol. Results. We obtained 234 normal results and 22 abnormal results (15 probands and 7 abnormal results for probands' parents or siblings). We diagnosed 1 16p11 microdeletion syndrome and 1 16p11 microduplication syndrome. We also found 3 deletions and 1 duplication in 15q13 region including 2 or 3 genes and 9 single probe alterations in the regions examined (1 duplication and 7 deletions). Conclusions.
