In spite of the potentials promised by MOOCs (massive open online courses), the adoption rate of MOOCs is still low, especially in developing countries. Research on the adoption of MOOCs in developing countries is also limited. To fill this research gap, this research aims to study the adoption of MOOCs by extending current research on innovation and technology adoption in order to promote the diffusion of MOOCs in developing countries. Here, a conceptual framework, technology–user–environment was proposed to identify influential drivers and barriers of MOOC adoption. Eight hundred and twenty‐seven individuals in a developing country, were invited to participate in a questionnaire survey. Data were analysed by hierarchical regression, and the results show that for the (a) technological characteristics, perceived usefulness has the most significant influence, followed by lack of accessibility and performance‐to‐cost value; for the (b)user factors, self‐regulation was the most significant predictor of MOOC adoption, and female learners showed higher willingness to adopt MOOCs; and for the (c) social environmental factors, tradition and social norms and lack of information about MOOCs were negatively associated with adoption of MOOCs. Implications and suggestions are discussed at the end of this paper. Lay Description: What is already known about this topic: MOOCs (massive open online courses), as educational innovations, are supposed to bridge the digital divide and promote educational equity globally.The benefits of MOOCs for learners are obvious.However, the adoption rate of MOOCs is still relatively low while the dropout rate is high, especially in developing countries.Research on the adoption of MOOCs in developing countries is still limited.What this paper adds: This research proposed a conceptual framework, namely, technology–user–environment, in order to identify influential drivers and barriers from the technological characteristics of MOOCs as well as the user and the social environmental factors.After conducting a survey among 827 learners in a developing country, it was found that perceived usefulness of MOOCs, performance‐to‐cost value, and self‐regulation are positively associated with learners' intention of adopting MOOCs, whereas lack of accessibility tradition and social norms and lack of supporting information are negatively associated with their intention of MOOC adoption.Implications for practice and/or policy: For MOOC content provider, it is necessary to enhance the usefulness of MOOCs, as perceived usefulness is ranked as the strongest predictor of MOOC adoption.Universities in developing countries should help students overcome the potential obstacles at the beginning of MOOC learning by providing instructions to learners to search for course materials and how to use MOOCs to supplement their formal learning.Governments of developing countries are encouraged to be involved and support the development and delivery as well as the usage of MOOCs. With the expansion of the coal mining depth and scales, the content of coal mine methane (CMM) is increasing, bringing the great challenge to the safe coal mining and greenhouse gas control. Researching CMM emission laws and its drainage technologies in underground coal mining is essential. This paper analyzed the sources of CMM emission in the workface and then put forward the grid method to measure the CMM emission laws in the single coal seam, which error was verified by the integral method. The CMM emission laws of the S2107 workface of the Yuwu mine, northeastern Qinshui basin, China were researched as a case study and it is found that the upper corner was the key position of CMM control in the workface. The sub-source CMM drainage methods by the strike high-level roadway and long vertical buried pipes were applied against the different CMM sources in the S2107 workface. The gas concentration in the return air was less than 0.6% during the CMM drainage, verifying the effectiveness of the sub-source CMM drainage methods. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper aims to clarify the current status, hotspots, historical evolution and development trend of the research on funding and management of basic research in China. Firstly, 736 relevant papers indexed during 1992-2019 in the core journal database of China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) were analyzed in details. Using the information visualization software CiteSpaceV5.6.R3, the institutional cooperation co-occurrence map, author cooperation co-occurrence map, keyword co-occurrence map, and keyword timeline view maps were plotted through content mining. The results show that: the research institutions in the research field of basic research funding and management have formed three core cooperation networks, and the institutions in Beijing attract the most attention; most of the prolific and active authors choose teamwork over independent research; the research topics mainly fall into four aspects of basic research: input, subjects, results, and talents; the research hotspots are in line with policies and demands, and evolve through three stages: exploration and gradual progress, adjustment and development, and expansion and acceleration. Background:The third nationwide hepatitis B virus (HBV) sero-epidemiological survey conducted in China in 2006 showed a hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)-positive rate of 7.18% and the number of carriers to be 93 million. To compensate for the lack of data on the national prevalence of hepatitis B from 2006 onwards, we performed a meta-analysis to investigate HBsAg-positive rates among the general Chinese population aged 1–59 years.Methods:We systemically reviewed published studies (January 2007 to September 2013) from full-text databases such as VIP, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, and PubMed and assessed HBsAg-positive rates using a random effects regression model with comprehensive meta-analysis software.Results:After evaluation of the quality of the papers, 36 were finally included, with a total sample size of 314 103 individuals. The meta-analysis showed that the combined HBsAg-positive rate was 6.1% (95% confidence interval (CI), 5.4–6.8%) among general Chinese populations aged 1–59, with a higher HBsAg-positive rate in males (6.6%; 95% CI, 5.7–7.7%) than in females (5.1%; 95% CI, 4.4–5.9%). Our data also showed a higher HBsAg-positive rate of 6.9% in mid-western China (95% CI, 5.2–9.1%) against 5.6% in eastern China (95% CI, 4.9–6.4%).Conclusion:This meta-analysis suggested that the positive rates of HBsAg in China are reducing compared with previous 2006 sero-survey results, and China has changed from a high endemic area for HBV to an intermediate endemic area. However, owing to the large population, there remain an estimated 80 million HBsAg carriers in China. This paper describes the methods of sampling design and data collection of Wave 1, 2 and 3 of the International Tobacco Control (ITC) China Survey, with major focus on longitudinal features of the study. Key measures of quality of the survey data, such as retention rates and final sample sizes, are presented. Sample replenishment procedures are outlined, including the addition of a new city, Kunming, at Wave 3. The platform market, where a platform serves as both market maker and regulator, has received increasing attention in recent years. Despite great success, the inherent uncertainty of the platform market has hindered its overall development. Previous papers have studied uncertainty by focusing on either sellers or products, ignoring a platform's significant effects. To fill this void, we propose and validate a new dimension of uncertainty in the platform market: platform uncertainty. To examine the systematic dimensions of uncertainty in the platform market and reveal its consequences and antecedents, we utilize the perspective of information asymmetry. Structural equation modeling is used to build a theoretical framework, and we then conduct a survey among 352 consumers of a leading commerce platform in China to collect our data. We use the partial least squares (PLS) method to validate our hypotheses. Our empirical analysis provides the results that follow: First, we confirm that platform uncertainty is not only distinct from seller uncertainty and product uncertainty but also impacts both of these aspects. Consumers' perceived platform uncertainty positively influences their perceived seller uncertainty and product uncertainty. Consequently, these three dimensions of uncertainty negatively influence consumers' purchase intention. We also find that platform uncertainty negatively and indirectly influences consumers' purchase intention by impacting seller uncertainty. We demonstrate that consumers' concerns about a platform's hidden characteristics and opportunistic behavior contribute to platform uncertainty. The attitude of the Chinese government towards social organizations (SOs) is crucial, as it affects the management rule and development tendency of SOs. To research the rule of SOs' participation in social governance in China, this study used a new historical perspective, the institutional development perspective, to conduct its exploration. This perspective provides an accurate measure of the reality of the SOs' participation, as it involves a mixed research methodology using continuous data from 73 years of reports and content mining, as well as topic clustering analysis to reveal a macroscopic and multi-line picture. Using a co-word analysis of hundreds of reports, from 1949–2021, in the People's Daily, an official newspaper of the Communist Party of China, this study quantified changes in intensity, emotion, and content regarding social organization participation in social governance through topic distribution. Three trends were revealed: (1) "social-oriented character" and "organized-oriented character" were identified during the change in SOs; (2) the extent of being managed gradually strengthened and shifted from the Communist Youth League of China to the Community Party of China; (3) the goals of SOs shifted from general to innovated function in special charitable organizations. The institutional development perspective can complement the focus event perspective, including a new method, co-word analysis, to examine official Chinese media and validate the Administrative Absorption of Society (AAS) theory by identifying two lines of topic clustering trends. The attention distribution analysis in official media from an institutional development perspective can help explore the role of official media reports in analyzing the allocation of national attention and provide new analytical methods for big data mining to establish the social and organizational natures of SOs to optimize their roles. Better understanding of social media uses in crisis situations can help improve disaster management by policy-makers, organizations, businesses, and members of the public. It can also build theoretical understanding of how social life and citizenship incorporate social media usage. This study tracks the evolution of public sentiment in Wuhan, China, during the first 12 weeks after the identification of COVID-19 on the Chinese microblogging platform Sina Weibo. Data consist of 133,079 original Sina Weibo posts dealing with the novel coronavirus. The relative prevalence of eight different emotion groups is traced longitudinally using the ROST Content Mining System and the Emotion Vocabulary of Dalian University of Technology. The study finds a progression from confusion/fear, to disappointment/frustration, to depression/anxiety, then finally to happiness/gratitude. It argues that this progression indexes the changing affective energies of digital medical citizenship, which in turn indicates the context for intervention in future crises. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Policy quantitative analysis can effectively evaluate the government's response to COVID-19 emergency management effect, and provide reference for the government to formulate follow-up policies. The content mining method is used to explore the 301 COVID-19 policies issued by the Central government of China since the outbreak of the epidemic in a multi-dimensional manner and comprehensively analyze the characteristics of epidemic prevention policies. Then, based on policy evaluation theory and data fusion theory, a COVID-19 policy evaluation model based on PMC-AE is established to evaluate quantitatively eight representative COVID-19 policy texts. The results show that: Firstly, China's COVID-19 policies are mainly aimed at providing economic support to enterprises and individuals affected by the epidemic, issued by 49 departments, and include 32.7 percent supply-level and 28.5 percent demand-level, and 25.8 percent environment-level. In addition, strategy-level policies accounted for at least 13 percent. Secondly, according to the principle of openness, authority, relevance and normative principle, eight COVID-19 policies are evaluated by PMC-AE model. Four policies are level Ⅰ policies, three policies are level Ⅱ policies and one policy is level Ⅲ policies. The reason for its low score is mainly affected by four indexes: policy evaluation, incentive measures, policy emphasis and policy receptor. To sum up, China has taken both non-structural and structural measures to prevent and control the epidemic. Green building (GB) policies are continuously being launched and adjusted in China to pursue resource conservation and emission reduction. Though reviewing the policy evolution could reveal the industry's historical experience and strategic development concept and contribute to assessing and enhancing the policy system's effectiveness, a comprehensive review of the whole GB policy system is still lacking in China. Consequently, this study examined the evolution of 1083 GB policies in China over the past two decades from the perspectives of policy objectives, policy content, and policy tools through text mining and content analysis, filling the research gap. Results show that GB policy objectives were gradually being quantified and formulated in greater detail, with the foci changed from innovation award and assessment to energy-saving retrofit and prefabrication. Supervision policies were primarily used among seven policy tool categories in recent years. The policy enhancement recommendations were proposed accordingly, supporting policymakers to improve the policy settings, providing real-time orientations for industrial sustainability development, and enlightening other countries to promote GBs. This article aims to summarize the development and challenges of real-world data (RWD) and real-world evidence (RWE) in China and introduce a unique opportunity for medical devices to gain accelerated regulatory approval in China by utilizing RWE generated in a free trade pilot zone "Boao Lecheng" in Hainan Province. In 2020, the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) issued a draft guideline on the "Use of real-world data to support clinical evaluation for medical devices", suggesting that RWE derived from RWD could support clinical evaluation throughout the life cycle of a medical device. Meanwhile, the Chinese government has allowed qualified RWD collected in Boao Lecheng to support registration application of innovative medical devices and drugs in China. These medical devices and drugs should have been approved abroad, but not in China yet, and met urgent and unmet medical needs in China. The article also presents the successful story of an innovative Glaucoma drainage tube as the first medical device approved in China using RWE generated in Boao Lecheng in 2020. Although we are witnessing an increased interest in RWE, a few challenges remain, e.g., limited data accessibility and data sharing, concerns on data quality, etc. Collaborations among relevant stakeholders in the RWE research are vital to address the challenges. Terraces are the major vehicle for agricultural activities in mountainous areas and are an important component of the agro-cultural heritage landscape. This work explores tourists' perceived attitudes toward, and characteristics of terraced agro-cultural heritage landscapes based on online web travel notes. A framework of visitor perception types of terraced agricultural cultural heritage landscapes was constructed, and each type was analyzed in a targeted manner. The results obtained can provide a reference for the conservation of heritage farming culture and the development of strategies to improve landscape quality for such sites. This study used crawler software to collect online travelogue data from 3991 notes by visitors to seven note-worthy terraced agro-cultural heritage sites in China and used the ROST Content Mining 6 tool to analyze high-frequency feature words, semantic networks, and sentiment distribution and ten-dency. We found that the tourist perception of the diversity of terraced agro-cultural heritage landscape is rich, with a high overall evaluation. The tourists' perceptions focused on four elements: landscape, ecology, culture, and service. They were more likely to have a high perception of the landscape than service, which in turn was higher than culture and ecology. The emotional tendency of tourists' perceptions is mainly highly positive and neutral, and negative emotions account for a lower proportion and are mostly mild. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Mine water plays an essential role in securing mine production and domestic consumption in arid mining areas. This study was conducted to analyse the hydrogeochemical characteristics, determine the hydrochemical processes and assess the quality of mine water in the Tangjiahui mining area in Jungar Coalfield, Inner Mongolia, China, by using the Piper trilinear diagram, Gibbs map and statistical methods. The results showed that the pH and EC of the mine water in the study area ranged from 7.10 to 7.90 and from 1684.70 to 3435.60 μS/cm, respectively. The TH and TDS were in the range of 219.52–390.6 mg/L and 926.61 to 1889.56 mg/L, respectively. The cation content in the mine water was ranked from the highest to the lowest as Na+ > Ca2+ > Mg2+, while the anion content was ranked as Cl− > HCO3− > SO42−. The hydrochemical type of the mine water was Cl–Na. The main mechanisms controlling the major chemistry of the mine water were the dissolution of halite and gypsum, and reverse cation exchange. Due to its high concentration of major ions, TDS, EC, SAR, and Na%, the mine water in the study area was not suitable for human consumption and agricultural irrigation. These results are beneficial for the sustainable reuse and management of mine water resources in the mining area, and will also provide references for similar studies in other regions of the world. Getting a better understanding of the policy effectiveness and efficiency is a promising topic for encouraging the green-building initiative in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry. This study introduces a framework for assessing and improving the green-building policies concerning the effectiveness with "structural consistency" of policy instruments and the efficiency with "behavioral coherence" of interagency collaborative networks and examined it with China's green-building policies from 2002 to 2019. This framework, using content mining and social network analysis, not merely provides a comprehensive approach for assessing policy performance of green-building initiative, but also contributes to integrating, comparing, and benchmarking the sustainability-transition studies from various industries and countries. The empirical evidence from China brings novel understandings to the policy-makers of emerging markets for the structural deficiencies in information services, international collaboration, and tax incentives, the three-stage roadmap of the green-building initiative, and the importance of policy agenda. There is an increasing interest in using ordinal data collection methods, such as the best-worst scaling (BWS), to develop preference-based tariffs (value sets) for health-related quality of life instruments, yet the evidence on their performance is limited. This paper proposed to use an anchored BWS technique (in which the state of "death" served as an anchoring state) to directly develop a utility weight that lies on a scale anchored at 0 = death and 1 = full health for the Simplified Chinese version of the Short Form 6 Dimension version 2 (SF-6Dv2). An online panel from the general population of Mainland China completed an online survey between 20th July and 19th August, 2019 and 463 respondents were included in the main analysis. The Conditional Logit (CL) model, which assumes a homogeneous preference, as well as a Hierarchical Bayes (HB) model, which accounts for preference heterogeneity, were used to analyze the BWS data. The model performances were evaluated based on monotonicity and model-fit statistics. The majority of respondents indicated that the BWS questions were easy to understand and complete. Initial analyses suggested that the best and worst choices should not be pooled together. Based on model fit statistics of separated estimations and previous literature on health state valuation studies using BWS, the best choices were used for developing the final algorithm. The HB estimates were found to have better model performance than the CL estimates. This study provides an essential insight into using an anchored BWS approach in health state valuation. The National Development and Reform Commission and the Energy Bureau jointly issued the 'Plant Water Utilization Development Plan' on January 29, 2013, which requires that China should gradually establish a more complete legal system, macro management and technical support system for mine water in 2015. But so far, due to the influence of geological conditions and other factors, the impurity composition and content of mine water is very different. Based on the comprehensive summary of the theory, method, application technology, practical engineering and processing technology of mine water disaster and its reutilization in China. This article systematically analyzed the latest research progress and achievements, which include basic theory, hydrogeology (supplement) exploration, advanced detection and monitoring as well as early warning. These can further promote application of current technology, develop new technology and methods, point out the challenges and the existing problems of the mine water field, the gaps with requirements of fast, intensive, and large-scale development of the coal industry in China. This study aimed to compare the mental disorders, psychological factors, and suicidal intent between high- and low-impulsivity Chinese rural young suicides. Rural young women and men aged 15 to 34 years who died by suicide and various risk factors were examined. The data were obtained using psychological autopsy method with instruments as Dysfunctional Impulsivity Scale, the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-III-R, Beck Hopeless Scale, Social Support Index, Coping Response Inventory, Hamilton Depression Rating Scale, and Beck Suicide Intent Scale. Compared with low-impulsivity suicides, the high-impulsivity suicides were younger, had less mental disorders, owned less social support, scored lower on approach coping and higher on avoidance coping, and scored a lower score on the Suicide Intent Scale. Characteristics of high-impulsivity suicides differed significantly from low-impulsivity suicides in rural China. Drawing on the Conservation of Resources Theory by Hobfoll, we examined the relationships between abusive supervision, job insecurity, locus of control, and employees' innovative behavior. Using self‐reported data collected from employees among four enterprises in China (N = 641), we found that abusive supervision was positively correlated with job insecurity. In contrast, both job insecurity and abusive supervision were negatively correlated with employees' innovative behavior, with the impact of abusive supervision on innovative behavior being mediated by its effect on job insecurity. Having an external locus of control that served as a buffering factor for employees, mitigating the relationship between abusive supervision and job insecurity. These findings complement the existing research on the impacts of abusive leadership, providing practical information for enterprises on how to enhance levels of innovation and vitality among employees. The purpose of the manuscript is to investigate senior education in Nanjing, China. The results were achieved by (1) collating statistical data from various published documents and government websites; (2) administering an on-site questionnaire to 500 randomly selected senior residents from five urban districts in Nanjing to assess attitudes regarding Nanjing's senior education program; and, (3) analyzing these results in order to formulate suggestions for future sustainable development. The survey findings revealed: (1) senior education in Nanjing has achieved rapid development; (2) the admission rate for senior residents has increased from 2.7% to 7.7% over 20 years; (3) seniors are essentially content with the current status of senior education with a satisfaction rate of 72.7%; and (4) the majority of survey respondents (75.8%) would agree to pay an annual education fee of approximately 500 Yuan (approximately $70 US). The manuscript, therefore, offers a description of senior education in Nanjing that may provide insight into China's senior education program and a blueprint for future development. The objective of the current study was to explore the estimated prevalence of childhood sexual abuse in China. We conducted a meta-analysis that used the data from 36 articles. A total of 125 independent samples and 131,734 participants were included. The results revealed no significant difference in the prevalence of childhood sexual abuse between Chinese men (9.1%) and women (8.9%). The prevalence of childhood sexual abuse in studies from mainland areas was significantly higher than that from Hong Kong/Taiwan. The estimated prevalence of childhood sexual abuse in China also differed according to the definition of child sexual abuse, data collection method, year of data collection, and the mean age of participants at the time of assessment. We propose that employees’ perceptions of intra-organizational cues are an important factor influencing their identification with their organizations. Building on self-categorization theory, we examine whether perceived organizational support influences organizational identification. We contend that in addition to the mediating effect of affective commitment, organizational identification also mediates the effect of perceived organizational support on employees’ extra-role behavior. We collect perceptions of perceived organizational support, organizational identification and extra-role behavior information from 363 nurses in China using a three-wave data collection method and find empirical evidence to support most of our hypotheses. We find that collectivism moderates the indirect effect of perceived organizational support on extra-role behavior through organizational identification. We discuss the implications of our findings. This research examines selected online comments from open courses available on Chinese websites. These courses were created by universities in the West as an effort to build open educational resources (OER) and were recently translated into Chinese and were relocated to some popular Chinese websites. This research aimed to understand why the Chinese viewers value open courses offered by foreign institutions. A statistical cluster analysis was applied to identify patterns of viewers' behaviour. OER were analysed in a social context and the significance of cross-cultural communication in information sharing and knowledge delivery was explored. Mine waste debris flows are a type of man-made debris flow that commonly lead to major disasters. In this study, the Xiaotong Gully, which is located in the Xiaoqinling gold mining area in China and contains a typical mine waste debris flow gully, was selected as the study area. Since a debris flow can be classified as either a geotechnical debris flow or hydraulic debris flow based on its initiation mode, we conducted 46 experimental model tests to explore the initiation conditions of these two different types of debris flows. According to our tests, the initiation conditions of hydraulic debris flows were mainly affected by the flume gradient, the water content of the mine waste, the inflow discharge, the water supply modes, and the clay particle content. A larger flume gradient and higher mine waste water content were more conducive to initiating a hydraulic debris flow. However, the influence of the water supply mode on the initiation of a hydraulic debris flow was complex (influenced by factors such as water content of mine waste, runoff discharge rate and rainfall intensity). The critical runoff of a hydraulic debris flow, which starts with a parabolic relationship to the clay particle content of the mine waste, decreased with increasing clay particle content and then increased. There was a minimum critical runoff when the clay content of the mine waste was 30%. The initiation conditions of a geotechnical debris flow were mainly affected by the flume gradient, the water content, and the clay particle content. The critical gradient of a geotechnical debris flow decreased with increasing water content and had a parabolic relationship to the clay particle content. In tests 31–46 of this study, the second and third critical slopes both decreased and then increased with increasing clay particle content.
