The information provided by material investigations on ancient coins is interesting in many respects, as concerns the archaeological and historical research. In this study a set of Venetian sesino coins, minted over a period ranging from 1554 until 1605, have been investigated in order to shed light on some aspects of the so‐called mistura (mixture) alloy. The widespread diffusion of these relatively low‐value coins of the Venetian Republic, commonly used in commercial transactions in the second half of 16th century, also outside the territories of the Republic, makes them an important proxy to be used in the reconstruction of the political and historical events of the period. The specific issue of the actual composition of the mistura alloy is herewith addressed for the first time, using a combined approach based on X‐ray fluorescence and X‐ray diffraction nondestructively applied to the analysis of the samples. It turns out that the mistura alloy, traditionally regarded as a Cu‐Ag two phase alloy, over the latest period of circulation of the sesino coins, was actually made of copper only, still containing minor concentrations of lead, to be regarded as an impurity of the alloy and not as an intentional addition. The aim of this study is to bring to the attention of the specialists a number of twelve medieval coins issued by Wallachian and Moldavian princes. The coins are kept in the numismatics collection of the History Museum „Paul Păltănea" from Gala ţi. The silver coins are extremely important for the numismatic researches and for the study of monetary circulation. Two of the coins were found during the archeological researches undertaken during the years 1962-1963, the other ten coins being preserved from the old collection of the museum. Most probably the group of ten coins were found in the area of Gala ţi and Tulcea counties, being illustrative for the monetary circulation from the end of 14th century and the 15th century. Three new varieties of the white coins struck under Ferdinand I not included in the newest typological list (Numismatické listy 64-1/2008) are discussed. Via using the mentioned typology the new varieties were published, and they were listed under new numbers at the end of the particular existing variety. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article presents the classification of coins excavated from the Theater district in Corinth and the Roman villa in 1925-1926. The coins were excavated from the main Theater excavations adjacent to the Sanctuary of Athena Trench and from a Roman Villa on the way to Sikyon. The loss of coin records during the World War II made the classification more difficult. To identify them, several factors were studied, such as the pictures depicted on them, their similarity to the Corinth VI and Hesperia 6 and 10 coins, and their peripheral deposits. A detailed catalogue of the Corinth coins is also provided.

A small contribution to the typology by Jiří chvojka (The Prague Grossi struck under Ferdinand I) is presented. It is an undescribed variety of the Prague grossus struck in 1542 in the Kuttenberg mint without its regular 'A' abbreviation in front of the date. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
