Bermed houses are one of the traditional earth-sheltered house types. In this study, the bermed houses of Kamil village (Osmancık-Çorum), which are in danger of extinction, were examined. The study has been prepared largely based on field research and relevant literature. Within the scope of field studies, the bermed houses were examined, their measurements were taken using traditional methods, and visual documentation was made with photographs and videos. Kamil village bermed houses were built by local craftsmen or homeowners with stone, soil, and wood materials collected from the nearby area. Bermed houses were generally built on gently sloping slopes and partially buried in the ground. These houses are single-room, rectangular in plane, with gable roofs, and covered with soil and grass. These houses are an ecological structure type that emerged under the control of local geographical features and were widely used in the past. The earthquakes that hit the region repeatedly in the 1940s caused a significant portion of them to collapse and the rest to be abandoned. Today, all but one of the few standing examples were damaged. Restoring and re-functioning these houses is important for the preservation of local cultural heritage

This study aims to clarify the characteristics of settlement composition and house layout in Mamasa Toraja and Tana Toraja, Indonesia, focusing on spatial differences. The study reviewed relevant literature, selected settlements for the survey, and prepared settlement layout maps based on satellite imagery. Field surveys were conducted in 2022 to revise the settlement layout maps, record house plans, and interview local residents. The study found that despite having the same cultural roots, Tana Toraja and Mamasa Toraja have different settlement configurations and house layouts. The Tana Toraja settlements have a straight composition with warehouses on the north side and houses on the south side, flanked by a street-like plaza. In contrast, the composition of Mamasa Toraja settlements in the mountainous area is curvilinear, following the natural topography. Although social restrictions based on the caste system have long since been abolished, the layout of houses in the Toraja settlement, especially in Mamasa, still shows a social structure from when the caste system existed. This study provides insights into the unique spatial forms and cultural practices of the traditional villages in Mamasa Toraja and Tana Toraja, highlighting the importance of preserving their cultural heritage.

The research process involved creating a pop-up book for Pancasila Education, explicitly focusing on the physical diversity of traditional Indonesian houses. The study used the comprehensive ADDIE model for research and development, involving thorough analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Data collection techniques included qualitative and quantitative methods. The results showed that the pop-up books were of high quality, with media experts assessing them at 87.1, material experts at 83.3, learning experts at 73.3, and linguists at 81.7. Field-tested, the book received high scores from teachers and students at 98.0 and 93.3, respectively. The overall score was 91.0, indicating its high quality. The pop-up book can be a valuable tool for boosting students' enthusiasm and interest in learning and achieving goals optimally.

Wood carving is a traditional visual art that serves as architectural decoration in various cultures worldwide. However, issues involve the three-dimensional wood carvings of buah buton on traditional houses in Luak Tanah Mengandung, believed to symbolize one's status in Adat Perpatih. This article aims to analyze the relationship between buah buton and social status within the Adat Perpatih society in this region. To achieve this, the article employs qualitative research methodology, highlighting two approaches: field studies targeting four traditional houses in Luak Tanah Mengandung, Negeri Sembilan, and interviews involving six informants from diverse backgrounds. The findings indicate that buah buton can only be found on houses inhabited by individuals of high status. Furthermore, the number and positioning of buah buton vary among these houses. The application of buah buton in each house depends on specific spaces and is closely linked to Adat Perpatih. This is reinforced by the positioning of these elements, whether inside or outside the house, being associated with influential owners in the tradition. In conclusion, buah buton is not merely a house ornament; it symbolizes the owner's status within Adat Perpatih. The study's implications also highlight the significance of symbolism in influencing the social structure and community of this tradition. Therefore, the article suggests further research to expand the scope of comparing and contrasting buah buton within this customary society. Because of technological and industrial development, noise pollution became one of the big dangers that impacts human psychologically and physiologically. The historical neighborhoods in Sulaimani City are affected by this technological advancement, the demolishing of traditional houses and changed to commercial has increased the environmental noise. Therefore, this research aims to evaluate residents’ satisfaction in traditional houses in term of acoustic conditions, also aims to investigate if the design characteristics of traditional houses have role in providing acoustic comfort, and to promote traditional designs in today’s architecture. The absence of a practical study evaluating acoustic conditions in traditional houses and their impact on inhabitants’ satisfaction in Sulaimani city formed the main problem of the research. The results from the questionnaire and the in situ measurements have shown that, although most of these old houses were demolished and changed to commercial areas, the acoustic environment inside most houses is comfortable and most inhabitants are satisfied with the acoustic conditions. The traditional design turned the houses to be a barrier against transmitting noise whether from outside to inside or vice versa.

In Indonesia, there is a rich diversity of cultures, one of which is traditional houses. Traditional houses essentially have the potential to represent the way of life, culture, and local economy. Traditional houses in Indonesia, particularly in the Malaka region, are important cultural symbols that can be regarded as cultural icons in Malaka and Indonesia. They provide a historical perspective, heritage, and reflect the progress of society in a civilization. The Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) method is used in this research. In this study, the CNN algorithm is applied to classify traditional house objects. These traditional house objects are divided into two categories: Kolibein Traditional House and Laleik Traditional House. The objective of this research is to classify traditional houses in Malaka, namely Kolibein Traditional House and Laleik Traditional House, and also to determine the accuracy level of CNN classification results. The previously created model is tested using test data to assess its accuracy. The testing is conducted on 20 data points, with 10 data points in each respective class. The testing results show that the classification of Kolibein and Laleik traditional houses is error- free or very accurate. Based on the model developed for classifying Kolibein and Laleik traditional houses using the Convolutional Neural Network method, it is evident that this method is capable of producing accurate results. The obtained results indicate that the accuracy, based on the classification report using images of Kolibein and Laleik traditional houses, reaches 100%. Therefore, it can be concluded that the constructed CNN model has a high level of accuracy.

The present article is based upon information gathered in the Sălaj villages, analyzed from an anthropological point of view. In the old traditional homes, wall carpets (a broadloom carpet on the wall) were fitted instead of paintings, greetings, or words of wisdom. This naïve combination of words and images meant to call to action or to praise speaks of the history of an era, of the evolution of textile techniques and industry, about the unspoken history of women and their place, about sawing and embroidering skills but also about the traditional mentality or the atmosphere in those households – about family, weds, love, cleanliness, hygiene, cooking skills or Christian holydays. We see here a cultural phenomenon that transcends ethnography or the study of traditional fabrics and opens horizons of study in the field of cultural and historical anthropology, sociology, private life history and even interior design. The Bale beleq traditional house of Jerowaru Village and Wakan Village is a historical heritage. This house is different from ordinary traditional houses because Bale beleq is occupied by people who are respected. In addition, there are also historical relics such as keris, swords, and many more. This research aims to examine information about the meaning and philosophy of the Bale beleq traditional house. This research was conducted in Jerowaru Village and Wakan Village. Eight respondents were interviewed. The research method used was the qualitative method. Data collection was done by using observation, interview, and documentation methods. The data analysis techniques are data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing or verification. The results of the study found the history of the emergence of the Bale beleq traditional house, the meaning and philosophy of Bale beleq, and the values within Bale beleq. Currently, Bale beleq is used as a center for socio-cultural religious activities. One way to maintain and preserve traditional houses is to make the house a cultural heritage so that it does not erode with the time, and to make Bale beleq an educational and cultural tour site. Traditional houses and villages are a cultural asset of the West Sulawesi region and should be passed down to future generations to preserve the community’s identity. The Orobua settlement, located in Mamasa Regency, West Sulawesi Province, is a settlement that had maintained its traditional landscape until the 1990s. However, since the mid-2000s, most traditional houses have either been modified or replaced with modern ones. This paper examines the cultural heritage of the Orobua settlement and suggests strategies to preserve its traditional landscape. Source data were obtained through a literature review, field survey, and interviews with residents.

Badui (Bedouin) tribe is one of the ethnic groups that continues to exist and thrive today, including the traditional house-building method. Accordingly, the Badui traditional house is transformed into a batik motif for the children's casual dress to maintain continuity. This creation seeks to design and implement the traditional Badui house batik motif in casual clothing for 10-year-old girls. Exploration, design, and embodiment were the means of creating works. The process of creating works startedwithexploring motifs, clothing, material, and technique, followed by motifs and children's casual clothing designs. This work utilizedthe written batik technique;colet-tutup-celupcoloring;Remasol, Naptol, and Indigosol dyes; Japanese cotton and Primissima; and bright colors as embodiment techniques. Implementing batik motifs (ImahSawarna,ImahNgahiji,ImahSalonjor,ImahKahuripan) to children's casual clothing resulted in 4 pieces of clothing, namely: Inleum, Makaul, Galis, and Bageur.

This paper proposes the development of a markerless augmented reality (AR) application for Indonesian traditional house education. The application aims to provide an immersive and interactive way of visualizing traditional houses from various regions of Indonesia, with the potential to raise public awareness about the importance of preserving traditional culture. The prototyping method was employed as the most appropriate approach to software development, and the ARFoundation platform was used to integrate plane detection into the AR application. The results showed that 80% of tested devices were compatible with ARCore, and the AR plane detection could detect up to 250cm from the device position. In addition, a feedback survey conducted on 17 testers showed that the application design and mechanism brought a good experience to users, with 53% stating that the app is easy to use. This research project contributes to the development of technology-based solutions to promote Indonesian culture and preserve traditional houses, especially for younger generations who may be less familiar with traditional culture. Indonesia is one of the archipelago countries located in Asia and it has diverse cultures. In modern society, Indonesian traditional houses have become rare and need to be preserved. This research is conducted to build a digital collection and to develop an image-based automatic recognition system for Indonesian traditional houses. In this paper, the traditional house images are collected in several ways: on-site image captures, receiving images from volunteers, and collecting public images from Google. The dataset is limited to the collection of building shape images, excluding the interior design. The authors implement Convolutional Neural Networks (ConvNets) to build a model for an automatic recognition system. The experiments run some deep network models: VGG, DenseNet, Inception, Xception, MobileNetV2, NasNetMobile, and EfficientNet. The experiments involve 1526 images of 16 classes. EfficientNet-Lite0 outperforms other models and produces the average F1-score and accuracy of 90.1% and 91.8%, respectively. ConvNets also outperform conventional classifiers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Modern building materials using reinforced concrete are considered the most popular in the production of housing in Algeria, specifically in desert areas such as the city of Ouargla, which is characterized by its hot and arid climate. These dwellings must be more adaptable to this difficult climate. An example is the Ouargla Ksar, which contains traditional dwellings that have proven their effectiveness in terms of the heat problem, as has been revealed in several previously conducted studies, but these dwellings have decreased in demand as they are not suitable for contemporary urban life. Therefore, the aim of this study is to improve the performance of the most recognized house typologies in the city of Ouargla in terms of thermal comfort and energy consumption by using passive strategies. In this regard, we used a research methodology based on field measurements and model simulations wherein we adopted TRNSYS 17 to determine the most often encountered problems. The simulated model was validated by statistical correlation; afterward, a simulation of a full year was run, during which many aspects of construction were studied and compared, such as insulation, the mass of the roof and walls, dimensions and types of windows, orientation, and solar shading. The results show that the studied modern house can be considered inappropriate for a desert climate, and the use of solar shading combined with insulated walls and roof allows for an increase of 35% in annual thermal comfort hours (−0.5 ≤ PMV ≤0.5) and for a 22.73% reduction in the energy consumption. We then compared the simulated scenarios with a traditional house characterized by a bioclimatic architectural design that we used as a reference building. The obtained results may be useful in guiding both refurbishment interventions on existing buildings and the design of new ones. Although the simulated interventions have been widely studied in the literature, it is very important to determine their impact on the perception of the indoor environment and on the energy consumption in this specific geographic area. The Çubuk district of Ankara contains several examples of traditional 17th and 18th centuries Turkish houses. While these examples of traditional civil architecture were constructed according to the geographical and topographic characteristics of the region, climate, features of the building material used, needs of the users, as well as the economic, social, and cultural situation, they also share common features. These three-storey buildings, which usually have basic facades, are designed for the requirements of rural life with a more inward-looking inner and middle anterooms that occupy two-stories or feature cihannüma (dormers). Most of the traditional architectural examples in Çubuk district that were examined between 2010-2011 only remain due to having been preserved through reconstruction. Most examples of traditional architecture of this type largely disappeared during the last century, and very few unregistered examples survive. This study aims to contribute to conservation efforts by conducting an evaluation, in terms of contemporary conservation principles, of the architectural features and conservation status of a group of unregistered traditional houses and registered civil architecture examples in the district of Çubuk. During the last 10 years, the district has become accepted as containing important examples of rural Ankara architecture.

Malays are one of several local ethnicities who inhabit the island of Kalimantan. Malay architecture can be linked to elements of customs, culture, and tradition that develop within the growth of ethnicity toward community development. Furthermore, many reports found that the characteristics of the environment and the settlements' location make a difference in the Malay house's traditional architecture on the island of Kalimantan. The study identifies some differentiation by the effects of cultural factors in each area of traditional architecture, affecting the architectural elements. The influences to Malay architecture are found differences by each region's customs, culture, and tradition. The Malays' customs, culture, and tradition greatly influence Malays houses' architecture because the culture is robust. This influence has made the customs, culture, and tradition become an obligation embedded in every Malay society. The embedded influences to the traditional Malay houses are found in the orientation of the openings, spatial arrangement, structure, and construction. The factor of being a Malay makes people attaching a unique meaning to the architecture of a traditional Malay house. The meanings follow the belief in environmental conditions and simplicity in Islamic teachings in traditional houses.

Communities in nations all over the world must work to address the problem of energy consumption, which has emerged in modern times. Given that domestic consumers account for roughly 49% of the total electricity used annually by all sectors, buildings can be seen as a key player in this conundrum. The architecture field can therefore play a vital role in saving energy, not only through building design but also through the materials used. To minimize architectural programmes' negative impact on the environment, sustainable design that saves energy is being employed today in traditional Saudi Arabian buildings. This study examined whether current housing designs can effectively integrate four key passive energy-saving strategies: outdoor green area, thermal mass wall, window-to-wall ratio and shading device. This study analysed two types of traditional houses from two different cities in Saudi Arabia's Najd region, Riyadh and Hail, examining the four passive strategies. Using traditional house designs, this paper created four simulation models for each house, and compared the simulation results with the base case model to determine how well these strategies could affect the energy consumption for residential buildings in Saudi Arabia (KSA). Kent merkezlerindeki tarihi dokularda günümüzde rant marjları çok yükselmiş, tarihi yapılara turizm ve ticaret işlevleri verme eğilimi artmıştır. Yeniden işlevlendirme adı verilen bu uygulama aslında terk edilmiş ya da özgün işlevini devam ettirmesi mümkün olmayan yapıları, yeni bir işlevle kullanımını sağlayarak gelecek kuşaklara aktarmak için geliştirilmiş bir koruma yöntemidir. Ancak bu yöntem günümüzde sanki bir tasarım modeli gibi kullanılarak tarihi yapıların özgün değerlerinden çok fazla kayıplara neden olmaktadır. Koruma yasasındaki esneklik, sayısal nicelik ve şahıs mülkiyetlerinde olmaları gibi sebeplerle yeniden işlevlendirilerek özgünlük değerlerinden en çok kayıplar veren yapılar geleneksel konutlardır. Tarihi yapılar ve bu yapıların oluşturduğu tarihi çevre, bölgeye özgü fiziksel ve kültürel özellikler sonucu oluşmuş geleneksel mimari örneklerdir. Özellikle geleneksel konutlar bulunduğu bölgedeki günlük yaşam ve kültürü hakkında önemli veriler sunan tarihi belgelerdir. Bu nedenle diğer tarihi yapılar gibi geleneksel konut yapılarının da özgünlüklerinin korunması ve gelecek kuşaklara aktarılması önem arz etmektedir. Yeniden işlevlendirme ile özgün değerlerini yitiren tarihi çevrelerden birisi de Antalya'nın önemli turizm merkezlerinden birisi olan Alanya’dır. Bu nedenle bu çalışmada yeniden işlevlendirme ile restorasyonu yapılan geleneksel Alanya konutları çalışma alanı olarak seçilmiş, bu bölgedeki uygulamaların olumlu ve olumsuz yönleri ortaya konularak tartışılmıştır.

Green and energy-saving reforms, which use protection as a precondition, can, not only reduce a building’s energy use but also improve its level of comfort. Such reforms can also adapt to the new demands of modern society while extending the life of traditional architecture. Therefore, this research chose a classical, traditional house in Hangzhou Zhejiang, China, as a transformation object – attempting to implement low-cost, energy-saving technology. The building’s energy consumption and level of comfort before and after the transformation have been simulated and measured to compare the effects of the transformation. The authors hope this research will provide insights into green and energy-saving reform technology and aid the sustainable development of traditional houses.

The Indonesian people are very rich in tradition and culture. One of the traditions and culture that still exists today is a traditional house. This traditional house has the uniqueness and characteristics of each region. Buttoned traditional house (fala kanci) is a traditional North Maluku house spread throughout North Maluku. Button house has unique characteristics, namely building construction. With building construction using wood as a building structure starting from beams on foundation, columns and beams which all bound together using traditional wooden pegs and joints. In this modern era the existence of traditional houses is increasingly rarely found. This research it is hoped that it can open up the horizons of thought about the existence and uniqueness of traditional houses owned by the people of North Maluku in general and the people of Ternate in particular. The typology approach by comparing four traditional houses of fala kanci was chose from four different villages, so that it can be conclude about the characteristics of fala kanci traditional houses in Ternate. These characteristics are in the form of building facades, floor plans, walls, foundations and construction of fala kanci traditional houses. Fala Kanci is also an earthquake resistant building because of the uniqueness of its building frame.

Traditional houses in the village of Sumbersari are Javanese joglo houses that have been modified according to local culture. This traditional house is quite commonly found in Sumbersari Village, Udanawu District, Blitar, the distribution is quite evenly distributed in Blitar Regency. This traditional residence has the characteristics of the limasan building roof and has a symmetrical facade building, this residence belongs to a Javanese family with a higher status, so it has a uniqueness that is by the spatial layout and facade. Over time, only changes in spatial layout and facade are related to human needs, new technology, lifestyle, economic factors, inheritance, and cultural rights. With existence, traditional houses that are increasingly changing will eventually lose their identity. The purpose of this study is to analyze typologies by classifying traditional dwellings based on specific types and analyzing their morphology based on the level of change and the application of the changes. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a rationalistic discussion. The results of the studio are the data in the form of tables about the typology and morphology of traditional dwellings as the essence of the instructions for the form of traditional dwellings that can be contributed to the scientific architecture of the archipelago.

Taraklı, Türkiye'de Kocaeli sınırına yakın bir Sakarya ilçesidir. Modern pastoral zihniyet ve mimari koruma ilkeleri ile öne çıkan bir yerdir. Halen geleneksel mimarisi korunmuş, restore edilmiş, restorasyona hazır tipik bir Anadolu kasabası özelliğini göstermektedir. Makalenin amacı, sakin şehir sertifikasına sahip olunması için aranan standartlar, özellikle kentsel ve mimari kriterlere odaklanarak değerlendirilecektir. Yöntem olarak; Cittaslow hareket kriterlerinden geleneksel yapıların korunması kriterleri incelendi. Taraklı’nın mevcut üç geleneksel mahallesi, 18 geleneksel konutu, 8 sivil mimari örneklerinin harita ve mimari dokümanları (ölçekli rölöve ve restitüsyon projeleri, fotoğrafları, illüstrasyonları) elde edilerek görsel mimari analizler yapıldı. Taraklı’da geleneksel dokuya dair korunmuş/değerlere seçilen “geleneksel yapıların korunması” Cittaslow kriterlerine göre belirli örnek binalar üzerinden tarihi binaların korunması değerlendirilmiştir Cittaslow standartlarından mimari mirasın Taraklı’nın sahip olduğu en güçlü unsur olduğunu söylenebilir. Mimari mirasın tümünü, doğal çevreyi, yüzyıllar içinde birikmiş kültürü, ananeyi, yaşam biçimini ve yerleşmenin ruhunu kavrayabilmek; bütüncül bir korumayı ve yaşam anlayışını Taraklı’da başarılmıştır.

İnsanın barınma arayışı ev ile neticelenmiştir. Ev mimarisi doğal imkânlar kadar toplumun yaşam biçiminden de izler taşır. Bununla beraber evin kendisi de insanı bir hayat tarzına zorlar. Modernite ile birlikte birçok alanda değişim yaşanmıştır. Değişimin görüldüğü alanlardan biri de kuşkusuz ev mimarisidir. Bugünün ev mimarisi geleneksel evlerden farklı olarak geniş ailenin ikametinden ziyade çekirdek ailenin yerleşmesini ve mahremiyetten öte bireyselleşmeyi dikkate almaktadır. Ayrıca modern ev mimarisinde dinî referanslar bir tarafa bırakılarak modern değerler ve tüketim kültürü etkili olmaktadır. Böylelikle sosyal bir varlık olan insanın ontolojisiyle çelişkili bir durum ortaya çıkmakta, insan yalnızlaşıp, mutsuzlaşmaktadır. Öte yandan bireyselleşme merkezli bir mimari aile içerisinde sosyal değerlerin ve dinî inancın yaşanıp aktarılmasında bir takım engellere neden olabilmektedir. Oysa toplumsal değerlerin ve dinî inancın kökleşmesi bakımından aile içi iletişimin ve paylaşımın yoğunluğu önemlidir. Modern mimarinin doğurduğu olumsuz bazı sonuçları aşmada geleneksel Türk evi bir imkân olarak belirmektedir.

This study deals with the architectural properties of traditional Siverek houses, which are important in the larger corpus of Southeastern Anatolian houses. The historical city center of Siverek has partly preserved its authentic character with its monumental buildings and traditional houses. Despite the considerable number of traditional courtyard houses in Siverek, no detailed survey has been conducted on them. In this work, these traditional houses in the historical Siverek City center are identified and documented for the first time. Their plans, façades, and structural systems are examined in detail, and the structural elements are comprehensively analyzed. We document the architectural features of these traditional Siverek houses and introduce the cultural heritage of the city. These details provide information for proper decision-making regarding the preparation of restitution and restoration projects and selecting materials and techniques that suit the structures to be restored.

Mathematics is found in many activities of traditional culture. However, many perceive that mathematics is culture-free. Based on the occurring phenomenon, ethnomathematics study is made as the connector between mathematics and culture. The presence of ethnomathematics provides many opportunities to discover unique mathematical ideas exist in the traditional culture. This research aims to explore mathematical ideas in the layout of tui gubuk and the architecture of Segenter traditional house that can be made as mathematics learning sources. This study was a qualitative research with ethnographic method. This study was conducted in the traditional village of Segenter, Sukadana Village, Bayan District. Data were collected through an observation and interviews with Adat figures, cultural anthropologists, and traditional leaders who have the knowledge of the customs and culture of Bayan people, which consisted of three informants. Research results indicate that there are mathematical ideas in the layout of tui gubuk and the architecture of Segenter traditional house that can be made as the learning sources of mathematics and can be developed in mathematics learning, especially in materials of set and geometry, both geometry of space and flat geometry.

The focus of this research is to explore more deeply the values contained in Ume Kbubu as a cultural heritage that can be applied to school learning. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach to describe the values contained in the Ume Kbubu house. Data collection was carried out by conducting a literature study to find sources related to the history of Ume Kbubu; direct observation at the location; and interviews with residents and Atoin Meto leaders to obtain information on the values of the Ume Kbubu heritage to implement in learning. The analysis of information or data is done by reducing data, presenting data, drawing conclusions, or verifying. The results of this study indicate that cultural values contained in Ume Kbubu as an Atoin Meto identity can be applied in schools as part of character cultivation in students. Cultural heritage represents a unique and irreplaceable cultural value of a nation. Preservation and protection of cultural heritage is an important moral role of the entire modern society. The paper singles out the notion of vernacular architecture and traditional houses as a significant part of the architectural heritage. The case study includes examples of traditional houses in Serbia, Romania and Bulgaria. The current condition of buildings, their purpose, the degree of preservation, as well as the applied methods of protection are considered in more detail. By analyzing examples of positive and negative practice, conclusions were drawn about the active approach to the architectural heritage of these countries. The goal of this paper is to consider the approach to the preservation of vernacular architecture and the relationship of these countries to this form of cultural heritage. The methods used in the paper are analysis, synthesis, comparative analysis, modeling method and case study.

Abstrak_Delta Lakkang adalah salah satu kelurahan di Kecamatan Tallo, Kota Makassar, Sulawesi Selatan. Lakkang merupakan delta yang berada di antara Sungai Tallo dan Sungai Pampang, terbentuk akibat sedimentasi sungai selama ratusan tahun. Rumah merupakan bagian kebudayaan fisik, dalam konteks tradisional merupakan bentuk ungkapan yang berkaitan dengan kepribadian masyarakat. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui ragam wujud rumah panggung yang ada di Lakkang dengan menggunakan studi tipologi arsitektur berdasarkan aspek bentuk, ruang, tampak, struktur, material dan ornamen atau ragam hias dan faktor yang mempengaruhi keragaman wujud arsitektural rumah tradisional di Kelurahan Lakkang. Penelitian kualitatif ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan metode pengumpulan data terhadap enam rumah tradisional berupa rumah panggung. Data berupa dokumentasi diperoleh melalui pengamatan, pengukuran dan wawancara. Analisis deskriptif terhadap hasil data tentang tipologi bentuk, tata ruang, struktur dan material dan agam hias atau ornamen rumah dengan bentuk tabulasi silang. Metode wawancara langsung kepada penghuni rumah digunakan untuk mengetahui faktor pengaruh ragam wujud rumah di Delta Lakkang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa wujud bentuk dan fasad pada rumah tradisional Lakkang mengikuti bentuk rumah tradisional Makassar dengan tiga zona; zona kaki (fungsi : gudang dan tempat usaha), badan (fungsi:ruang tamu, tidur, dapur)dan kepala rumah (ruang kosong). Wujud tata ruang pada rumah tradisional Lakkang terdiri dari tiga zona depan (teras), tengah (ruang tamu) dan belakang (ruang tidur dan dapur). Area sirkulasi utama berada disisi kiri rumah ( fungsi : penghubung teras dan dapur), bentuk denah segiempat dengan grid yang ukurannya tidak sama. Wujud struktur dan material yaitu pondasi umpak batu, kontrusksi sambungan kayu dan material atap adalah seng. Wujud ornamen atau ragam hias yang ada pada anjong atau ujung bubungan atap berbentuk tanduk kerbau dan railing teras berbentuk buah nanas. Faktor yang mempengaruhi keragaman wujud arsitektural rumah tradisional di Delta Lakkang adalah biaya pembuatan rumah, kemampuan tukang dalam pembuatan rumah, dan kebiasaan meniru bentuk rumah dari daerah asal. Kata kunci: Wujud Arsitektur; Rumah Tradisional; Delta Lakkang.. Abstract_ Delta Lakkang is one of the villages in Tallo District, Makassar City, South Sulawesi. Lakkang is a delta that lies between the Tallo River and the Pampang River, formed as a result of river sedimentation for hundreds of years. The house is a part of physical culture, traditionally; it is a form of expression related to the personality of the community. This study aimed to determine the various form of stilt houses in Lakkang by using architectural typology studies based on aspects of shape, space, appearance, structure, material, and ornament / ornamental variety and factors affect the diversity of architectural forms of traditional houses in the LakkangVillage. This qualitative research used a descriptive method with data collection methods on six traditional houses in stilt hoses form. The data was in the form of documentation obtain through observation, measurement, and interviews. Descriptive analysis of the data’s results on the typology of the shape, spatial structure, structure and material and ornament of the house formed in crosstabs. The method of direct interviews with residents of the house used to determine the factors influencing the variety of houses in Lakkangdelta. The results showed that the shape and facade of the traditional Lakkang house are followed the shape of the Makassar house with three zones; foot zone (function: warehouse and place of business), body (function: living room, bedroom, kitchen) and head of the house (empty space). The layout in the traditional Lakkang house consisted of three front zones (terrace), center (living room) and back (bedroom and kitchen. The main circulation area was on the left side of the house (function: connecting the terrace and the kitchen). Rectangular floor plan with a grid that was not the same size. The shape of the structure and the material was the foundation of a stone base, the connection of wood and roof material is zinc. The form of ornament that is on the roof is the buffalo horn-shaped and pineapple-shaped patio railing. Factors influencing the diversity of architectural forms of traditional houses in the Lakkang Village are the cost of making a house, the ability of builders to build a house, and the habit of mimicking the shape of a house from the origin area. This research is a study of Ethnomathematics. In this case, we view Ethnomathematics as an intersection between mathematics, mathematical modelling, and cultural anthropology. The purpose of this study is to determine the average height of Bali Mula ancestors communities in the area of Ancient Caldera Batur. We use exploration, observation, experimentation, documentation, and interviews method. In the initial stage of the study, we determine the relationship between the finger length index and the height body of Bali Mula male. The linear regression equation expresses the relationship, which is a length of the index finger as a predictor variable. Moreover, measure the pillars width of some houses Saka Roras and substituting it, we have the regression equation. Consequently, we estimate the average height of the Bali Mula ancestors in Kintamani area are 165 cm. Since it contains linier regression concepts, prediction the average height of Bali Mula ancestors from their traditional homes may be used as the context in mathematical (statistical) learning at school or university.

Communities in nations all over the world must work to address the problem of energy consumption, which has emerged in modern times. Given that domestic consumers account for roughly 49% of the total electricity used annually by all sectors, buildings can be seen as a key player in this conundrum. The architecture field can therefore play a vital role in saving energy, not only through building design but also through the materials used. To minimize architectural programmes’ negative impact on the environment, sustainable design that saves energy is being employed today in traditional Saudi Arabian buildings. This study examined whether current housing designs can effectively integrate four key passive energy-saving strategies: outdoor green area, thermal mass wall, window-to-wall ratio and shading device. This study analysed two types of traditional houses from two different cities in Saudi Arabia’s Najd region, Riyadh and Hail, examining the four passive strategies. Using traditional house designs, this paper created four simulation models for each house, and compared the simulation results with the base case model to determine how well these strategies could affect the energy consumption for residential buildings in Saudi Arabia (KSA). The results indicate that the selected strategies can play an important role in saving energy in residential buildings in the KSA.

North Macedonia's traditional houses have been extensively studied, including those in Tetovo, yet very little is known about the experiential qualities of the traditional house as sensed by its inhabitants. Since it is difficult to find a traditional house in Tetovo that is habitable today, the paper explored its experiential qualities through dwellers' memorable impressions as significant descriptors of the house's qualities. The research employed a qualitative approach to study inhabitants' memorable impressions and suggests that the experiential qualities of the traditional house in Tetovo are closely related to how the spatial properties of the house as a whole fulfil the inhabitants' multiple psychological and socio-cultural needs. Despite the development and progress in contemporary housing, up till the present time, this issue bestows fundamental problems and weaknesses in the society of contemporary Iran. One of the most significant explanations for this is the disregard of the structures of Iranian residential architecture towards identity in the previous periods, which is somehow attached to the Iranian human identity. Perhaps returning to the basic principles of Iranian housing and recognizing and applying the correct principles of their construction is the main solution to the complications that have plagued contemporary Iranian housing as traditional houses in all historical times and periods have best encountered the needs of their residents and users. Considering that one of the ways to detect the identity of the structures of traditional Iranian housing is to study the identity related elements in their architecture. By using a descriptive-analytical method and through the study of various library and documentary sources along with their content, this research has been able to identify and extract indicators and sub-indicators related to such factors. The results of the research indicate that with the correct knowledge of the elements and characteristics of the identity of the architecture of traditional Iranian houses and their optimal and principled use in contemporary housing, the current complications of users living in such spaces can be raised considerably. Of course, this does not mean that these factors and elements were used in contemporary residential architecture in the same way as in the past, nevertheless, it is compulsory to harmonize them with the innovative residential architecture. The traditional house is one of the nature reserves that have the characteristics of various regions and must be protected and preserved. This research aimed to explain the species of wood used in the manufacture of traditional Besemah houses in the Pelang Kenidai Village, Central Dempo District, Pagaralam City, South Sumatra Province, Indonesia. The implemented methodology of this study was a qualitative approach alongside a case study method. The wood species used in the preservation of traditional Besemah houses (ghumah baghi) consisted of three species: mersawa (Anisoptera sp.), surian (Toona sureni Merr.) and rasamala (Altingia excelsa Noronha). The government is expected to support the preservation of traditional houses through policies on preserving traditional houses, rehabilitating forests and land, cultivating the species of wood used as raw materials for making traditional houses, providing alternative species of other wood as a substitute for these woods, developing culture-based tourism and supporting the community in preserving the culture they have. The people of Kampung Ciptagelar are indigenous people who still hold tatali parantikaruhun. The traditional house of Ciptagelar village is rumah panggung. The facade of the traditional house of Kampung Ciptagelar has developed. The purpose of this research is to describes typology and morphology of the traditional house of Kampung Ciptagelar. This research is descriptive research using qualitative data collection techniques. Primary data was obtained by observing the field. Secondary references are obtained through historical-comparative research related to the research sites and research topics. The results showed that there are two types of roofs, three types of roof terraces, six door types, eight types of windows, two types of walls, and four types of terraces. The researcher classified the change of facade of traditional house of kampong into eight groups. The change of facade is influenced by social, economic, climate change, and community knowledge of Kampung Ciptagelar. Tatali paranti karuhun as a cultural factor while maintaining the red thread of the traditional house of Kampong Ciptagelar.

One of the most common ornamentation elements encountered on the façades of the traditional domestic buildings in almost all the provinces of Anatolia are "mashallah" inscribed plates. These plates, whose features vary according to the period they were built, were written in Arabic letters as well as in Latin letters. Apart from decoration purposes, another factor plays a major role in the use and adaptation of these plates. Using an evileye talisman to be protected against ill-intentioned glances named evil-eye, which are thought to have negative effects on human beings, animals, possessions, and goods, had been a practice rooting back to ancient times. Evil-eye talismans, which were made of animal bones and horns, as well as dried plants such as harmal seeds and black sesame, were sized according to the area they were used. These evil-eye talismans are sometimes as small as to be attached to a child's shoulder or big enough to be hanged on the door of a house. Evil-eye talismans are the most common materials used for this purpose. Generally, glances with high power of ill-intentions were concerned with blue-eyed people, and the evil-eye was attempted to be reflected back with the black eyes inserted into the blue evil-eye talismans, and therefore it was believed that these talismans provided a sort of protection. Within the Islamic view on the evil-eye, no verses regarding to the evil-eye has been found in Quran; there are no explanation about the evil-eye in the book either. On the contrary to the non-Islamic practices regarding the evil-eye, which is a belief seen in pre-Islamic faiths located in a wide geography, an Islamic term was especially preferred against evil-eye as a protective shield. In order to protect things that attract attention due to their beauty, a saying "mashallah" which means "how beautiful: may God protect it from evil-eye" became a widespread tradition among Muslims. Attaching golden evil-eye talismans inscribed the word "mashallah" to the clothes of newborns, circumcised children, and newly married couples during their wedding turned into a tradition within time. "Mashallah" writings were hanged on cars and also widely used on the façades of the buildings. By hanging plates of mashallahs on the façades of traditional domestic buildings, it was aimed to protect the health of both the building and the household from all kinds of envy of the ill-intentioned gazes. It was determined that these plates, which were generally hanged closer to the eaves of the domestic building facades were processed by using different techniques. The use of "mashallah" plates and stacking types observed in the domestic residences were discussed collectively for the first time in this study. Also in this study, instead of introducing the samples of a region or a settlement as a catalogue, a general evaluation of samples of mashallahs and their area of usage throughout Anatolia were targeted. Since on-site monitoring is not possible for the whole of Anatolia, samples made for domestic architecture was examined for the determination of different types of stackings. A survey was made to detect the inscriptions on traditional houses in the Central Anatolia region. While selecting the samples, the ones that can be encountered in every region of Anatolia were preferred, so it was aimed to reach general inferences. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study deals with the architectural properties of traditional Siverek houses, which are important in the larger corpus of Southeastern Anatolian houses. The historical city center of Siverek has partly preserved its authentic character with its monumental buildings and traditional houses. Despite the considerable number of traditional courtyard houses in Siverek, no detailed survey has been conducted on them. In this work, these traditional houses in the historical Siverek City center are identified and documented for the first time. Their plans, façades, and structural systems are examined in detail, and the structural elements are comprehensively analyzed. We document the architectural features of these traditional Siverek houses and introduce the cultural heritage of the city. These details provide information for proper decision-making regarding the preparation of restitution and restoration projects and selecting materials and techniques that suit the structures to be restored. Traditional house is one of the local wisdoms passed down from ancestors to their descendants in a community. The study aims to understand the diversity of plant species used as building materials for traditional houses of ethnic Dawan in North Central-Timor Regency. The samples were three traditional houses from different areas, namely Tunbaba, Fafinesu, and Tamkesi traditional house. The techniques used are interviews, observation and documentation. This study used the ethnobotany and ethnoecological approach. The results showed that 15 species of plants used as building materials for traditional houses, consists of wood, rope and roof categories. Plant species that have the highest important value index from three samples of traditional houses are (1) red wood (Pterocarpus indicus Willd) 14.64, 112.14, and 57.70 respectively, (2) trengguli (Cassia fistula L.) 105.44, 13.52, and 50.06 respectively. Uneven distribution of plant species in each region shows that the influence of abiotic environmental factors and human activities are greatly influence the existence of plants in terms of preservation. This study investigated the categories of spatial characteristics of traditional houses in Anhui, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang provinces of China by applying syntactic theories and conducting a comparative analysis of their different layout configurations. Six houses in the three provinces were selected as measurement samples, and statistical analysis of their spatial variables was conducted through SPSS 22. Results showed that the correlation of depth and integration in the Zhejiang and Jiangsu samples are negative, whereas the samples in Anhui show no correlation. These results further indicated that spaces with high rates of utilization in Zhejiang and Jiangsu dwellings are located at low depths in the spatial configurations, whereas the samples from Anhui show opposite findings. Different housing spatial structures reflect various habitation behavioral patterns in this area. Zhejiang and Jiangsu residents interact more closely with outside spaces in their daily lives, whereas Anhui residents have very limited interaction with outside spaces, thereby reflecting two different modes of living behavior, namely, extroversion and introversion. House is everything during the current Covid-19 pandemic. The house does not only function as a place to live, but more than that it is used for work, study, sports, and others. The concept of a healthy home that must be presented during this pandemic cannot be separated from the washing of health protocols, namely an optimized natural ventilation system, the availability of isolation rooms in each home, and the provision of hand sanitizing facilities (washtafel). The concept of structuring houses in traditional houses in North Maluku is following the concept of the current health protocol. Considering that the concept of traditional houses, especially people's houses, in several aspects are following health protocols, for this reason, it is necessary to model a healthy house after the Covid-19 pandemic to get a decent healthy house as a mitigation effort from biological disasters. The purpose of this study was to observe traditional houses that apply the principles of health protocols and the basics of these houses in the form of concept drawings.The result of the research is to make a new prototype to be modeled by considering natural ventilation systems, social distancing, and sanitation systems.

Traditional houses in Indonesia have become silent witnesses of how life in the past was carried out and its influence on the order of life of the people at that time. Likewise with the traditional Javanese houses of the community of dusun Cemorosewu - Magetan, which have the characteristics and functionally have specific aims and objectives that influence the process of establishing the building. This study is expected to provide a benefit in the form of the development of knowledge related to traditional houses in general which can be applied in building architecture. The method used in this writing is a descriptive method with non random sampling technique, which is purposive sampling (purposive sampling technique). From the discussion, it can be seen that the traditional house in dusun Cemorosewu only two clusters, namely griya wingking with dhapur limasan and griya pawon with dhapurkampong where griya pawon is always on the left either the wingking house faces north or south. The supporting structure of the roof of the house is supported by 8 (eight) poles so that it is often referred to as omah soko wolu. Walls are made of split stone and zinc roofing and there are still cooking stoves that use fuel from firewood along with complementary components such as pogo and sigiran and roof openings in an effort to remove smoke.
