Prosjektleder: Sigurd Øxnevad NIVA har gjennomført tiltaksorientert overvåking av Ranfjorden i 2022 på oppdrag for Mo Industripark AS, Celsa Armeringsstål AS, Elkem ASA Rana, Ferroglobe Mangan Norge, Miljøteknikk Terrateam AS og Rana Gruber AS. Overvåkingsprogrammet er utført i henhold til Vannforskriften på bakgrunn av hvilke stoffer som bedriftene og kommunen har utslipp av til Ranfjorden. I 2022 ble kjemisk tilstand bestemt ved analyse av miljøgifter i prøver av blåskjell fra tre stasjoner. Det ble gjort analyser av metaller (arsen, bly, kadmium, kobber, krom, kvikksølv, nikkel og sink), polysykliske aromatiske hydrokarboner (PAH), polyklorerte bifenyler (PCB), perfluorerte alkylstoffer (PFAS) og tinnorganiske forbindelser. Blåskjellene fra Moholmen og nord for Toraneskaia hadde konsentrasjon av benzo(a)pyren som var høyere enn grenseverdien for dette prioriterte stoffet. Kjemisk tilstand for stasjonene Moholmen og nord for Toraneskaia klassifiseres derfor som «ikke god». Det var ikke overskridelse av grenseverdier for prioriterte stoffer i blåskjellene fra Bjørnbærviken, og den stasjonen klassifiseres til «god» kjemisk tilstand. Blåskjell fra Moholmen og nord for Toraneskaia hadde konsentrasjoner av PCB som var så vidt høyere enn grenseverdi for dette vannregionspesifikke stoffet. Det var kun lave konsentrasjoner av tinnorganiske forbindelser, og det ble ikke påvist PFAS i blåskjellene i 2022. Prosjektleder: Sigurd Øxnevad NIVA har utført tiltaksorientert overvåking av Husebybukta på Lista i 2022 på oppdrag for Alcoa Lista. Overvåkingsprogrammet er utarbeidet i henhold til vannforskriften og godkjent av Miljødirektoratet. Programmet er utformet på bakgrunn av bedriftens utslippskomponenter til sjøen. I overvåkingen er det gjort bestemmelser av PAH-forbindelser, arsen, bly, kadmium, kobber, krom, kvikksølv, nikkel, sink og fluorid i prøver av albusnegl fra fem stasjoner. Det ble også gjort overvåking av bly og kadmium i vannprøver fra Haugestranda. Overvåkingen i 2022 viser at albusnegl fra Haugestranda og Tjuvholmen hadde konsentrasjoner av benzo(a)pyren og fluoranten som ga overskridelse av grenseverdi for disse prioriterte stoffene. Kjemisk tilstand for de to stasjonene klassifiseres derfor som «ikke god». Det var ingen konsentrasjoner av prioriterte stoffer på de tre andre stasjonene som hadde overskridelse av grenseverdier, og kjemisk tilstand for stasjonene Einarsneset, Havik og Østhassel settes til «god». Det var høyere konsentrasjoner av PAH-forbindelser i albusnegl i 2022 enn i 2021. Det var ikke påviselige konsentrasjoner av kadmium i vannprøvene som ble tatt ved Haugestranda. For bly var gjennomsnittet av målingene lavere enn grenseverdi for årlig gjennomsnitt (AA-EQS). Konsentrasjoner av bly og kadmium lavere enn grenseverdiene gjør at kjemisk tilstand for vannprøvestasjonen klassifiseres som «god». Alcoa Norway avd. Lista

Prosjektleder: Camilla H. Corneliussen Hagman På oppdrag fra Skien kommune har NIVA laget et overvåkingsprogram for å møte kravene i utslippstillatelsen til Elstrøm renseanlegg som har neddykket utslipp til Farelva. Overvåkingen startet i 2022 og omfattet undersøkelser ved to referansestasjoner oppstrøms utslippet, to antatt påvirkede stasjoner samt en stasjon nedstrøms i større avstand til utslippet. Det ble undersøkt for begroing (heterotroft og alger), bunndyr, metaller i sedimenter og kjemisk vannkvalitet, i tillegg til planteplankton i den oppdemmede innsjøen Hjellevannet. Undersøkelsene viste ingen betydelige forskjeller mellom referansestasjonene og øvrige stasjoner, og god eller svært god tilstand for alle parametere bortsett fra bunndyr. Uegnede fysiske forhold for bunndyr ved de fleste stasjonene gjør at det ikke kan konkluderes med at dårlig tilstand for bunndyr er knyttet til påvirkning fra utslippet, men kan like gjerne være pga. mangel på egnet habitat. Det er derfor ingen ting i denne undersøkelsen som tyder på at Farelva, Hjellevannet eller Skienselva er påvirket i stor grad av utslippet til Elstrøm renseanlegg. Skien kommune

Prosjektleder: Camilla H. Corneliussen Hagman To innsjøer nedstrøms Larvikitt-bruddet i Tvedalen, Larvik kommune, ble i 2022 undersøkt for effekter av påvirkning fra steinbruddet på vannkvalitet, sedimenter, vannplanter og bunndyr. Undersøkelsen ble utført som en oppfølging av tidligere undersøkelser i 2007 og 2008. Resultatene tyder på at vannkvaliteten i innsjøene ikke er eutrofierte, og at turbiditeten er betydelig bedret, men at forholdene fremdeles tilsier signifikant partikkelpåvirkning i form av reduserte lysforhold for vannplanter, spesielt i Bålsrødvannet. I Torpevannet ble det funnet svært lite vannplanter uten opplagt årsak til dette, derfor kunne ikke effekter fra steinbruddet vurderes. Bunndyrundersøkelsene ga ingen opplagte svar på omfanget av evt. påvirkning fra steinbruddet. Resultatene fra 2022 tyder totalt sett på at Bålsrødvannet er mest, og fremdeles, preget av partikkelforurensning fra Tvedalen steinbrudd, men at forholdene er betydelig bedret siden 2007 og 2008. Prosjektleder: Jonas Persson Denne rapporten omhandler bunndyrundersøkelser i 2022 i utvalgte bekker som påvirkes av avrenning fra steinbruddene i områdene Tvedalen og Tjølling i Larvik kommune. Data fra senere års undersøkelser tilsier at PSI-indeksen responderer tilfredsstillende på partikkelavrenning, og gir verdifull informasjon om effekten av sedimentering på bunndyrene. Resultatene ved bruk av PSI-indeksen tyder på at bruddet Klåstad ikke lenger i betydelig grad påvirker bunndyrsamfunnene ved stasjonene undersøkt i 2022 (KLÅ3 og KLÅ4). Bedringen her er betydelig etter etableringen av sedimentasjonsdammer, og i 2022 viste begge stasjonene den laveste påvirkning av finsedimenter som er målt i undersøkelsene til nå. Tilstanden tilsvarer referansestasjonen i området (KRU3 ref). Ved stasjonen som overvåker bruddet Håkestad (HÅK1), var påvirkningen av partikulært finstoff betydelig lavere i 2022 enn i 2020-2021. Resultatene tilsier at belastningen i 2022 er på samme nivå (moderat sedimentert) som målingene gjort i 2018-2019. Bruddene Tvedalen mot Askedalsbekken og Saga Pearl viser i 2022 derimot økt belastning sammenlignet med tidligere år. Påvirkningen fra Tvedalen mot Askedalsbekken har blitt mindre de siste årene etter at etablering av en sedimentasjonsdam som har redusert spredningen av partikulært stoff. Bedringen har lenge vært stabil ved stasjonen ASK_opp, men i 2022 var tilstanden kraftig sedimentert og klart forverret sammenlignet med de siste årene. Det er fortsatt stor variasjon i tilstand ved ASK som ligger lengre nedstrøms i et mer roligflytende parti av bekken. WSP Norge AS

Prosjektleder: Sigurd Øxnevad NIVA har gjennomført tiltaksorientert overvåking av sjøområdet utenfor Elkem Carbon og REC Solar i Kristiansand i 2022. I overvåkingen er det gjort analyser av blåskjell fra fem stasjoner og konsentrasjonen av polysykliske aromatiske hydrokarboner (PAH-forbindelser), tungmetaller (arsen, bly, kadmium, kobber, krom, kvikksølv, nikkel og sink), silisium og kalsium er bestemt. Det var høyest konsentrasjoner av PAH-forbindelser i blåskjellene fra Lumber. Blåskjellene som var samlet inn ved Lumber, Fiskå, Timlingen og Svensholmen hadde konsentrasjoner av PAH-forbindelsen benzo(a)pyren som oversteg grenseverdien for dette prioriterte stoffet. Blåskjellene fra Lumber og Timlingen hadde også konsentrasjoner av fluoranten som var høyere enn grenseverdien. Kjemisk tilstand for stasjonene Lumber, Fiskå, Timlingen og Svensholmen klassifiseres derfor til «ikke god». Blåskjellene fra Flekkerøygapet hadde ingen konsentrasjoner som var høyere enn grenseverdiene for de prioriterte stoffene, og stasjonen klassifiseres til «god» kjemisk tilstand. De to siste årene har det vært høyere konsentrasjoner av PAH-forbindelser i blåskjellene enn i de tre foregående årene. I forbindelse med oppstart av nytt renseanlegg for PAH og tilkobling av prosessvannsutslippet til dette renseanlegget hadde Elkem Carbon et uhellsutslipp i mars 2022. Dette kan ha bidratt til de økte konsentrasjonene av PAH-forbindelser i blåskjell i 2022. Elkem Carbon og REC Solar

Prosjektleder: Sigurd Øxnevad NIVA har i 2022 gjennomført tiltaksorientert overvåking av sjøområdet utenfor Stena Recycling avd. Skien. I overvåkingen er det gjort undersøkelser av miljøgifter i sediment på fire stasjoner og i utplasserte blåskjell på fire stasjoner. Det ble gjort analyser for miljøgiftene tungmetaller (arsen, bly, kadmium, kobber, krom, kvikksølv, nikkel og sink), polysykliske aromatiske hydrokarboner (PAH), polyklorte bifenyler (PCB), tetrabrombisfenol A, samt total mengde hydrokarboner (THC). Sedimentene utenfor Stena Recycling avd. Skien hadde i 2022 høyere konsentrasjoner av tungmetaller og organiske miljøgifter enn ved forrige undersøkelse (i 2007). Det var konsentrasjoner av kvikksølv, bly og kadmium som oversteg grenseverdiene for disse prioriterte stoffene. De fire sedimentstasjonene hadde også forhøyede konsentrasjoner av flere PAH-forbindelser. På grunn av overskridelser av grenseverdier for prioriterte stoffer blir kjemisk tilstand for sedimentstasjonene klassifisert som «ikke god». Det var generelt lave konsentrasjoner av både tungmetaller og organiske miljøgifter i blåskjellprøvene. Det var ingen konsentrasjoner i blåskjellene som oversteg grenseverdiene for kvikksølv og de fire PAH-forbindelsene som hører til de prioriterte stoffene i vannforskriften. Kjemisk tilstand for de fire blåskjellstasjonene klassifiseres derfor som «god». Det ser dermed ut til at miljøgiftene som finnes i ganske høye konsentrasjoner i sedimentene ikke er på en slik form at de tas opp i blåskjell. Stena Recycling avd. Skien

The authors showed that the imperfection of precision farming methods, methods of transferring energy from the tractor engine to the working bodies required the development of new methods for reliable and accurate identification of the soil and its properties, as well as the state of machine-tractor units. (Research purpose) To determine the actual energy and economic indicators of a working machine and unit reliably and promptly in the operating conditions of agricultural production by parameters closely related to the energy indicators of an internal combustion engine, the measurement of which did not require large costs. (Materials and methods) 24 indirect parameters reflecting the power and degree of engine load were used for the operational assessment. In this case, the angular accelerations of the internal combustion engine and the turbocharger rotor crankshaft, including those caused by the operation of individual cylinders, the working processes of the generator (their average and extreme values), as well as the amplitude-frequency spectra of these processes, and speed characteristics were taken into account. To improve the accuracy and reliability of the assessment of energy indicators, the authors selected the processes in the frequency and phase domains. (Results and discussion) The considered methods were tested in production conditions during the main processing of the alkaline-chernozem complexes of the Chulym district of the Novosibirsk region. The authors found that the use of a flexible machine-tractor unit based on an energy-rich tractor improved the quality of soil cultivation: the share of soil lumps less than 5 centimeters in size was 73-80 percent; the productivity of the tillage machine increased by 15-20 percent. (Conclusions) The authors proved that with the help of indirectly determined indicators of power and degree of load, it was possible to estimate the actual values of the energy and technical and economic indicators of the working machine and the unit, the quality of the assembly of the unit, the heterogeneity of the soil was much easier and cheaper than using the known force-measuring methods. It was found that the use of digital systems for automatic control of the unit using the indicated indicators made it possible to provide quite simply the setting of the optimal zone of energy modes.

The aim of this study is to innovate wave-based depth-inversion towards smarter and faster algorithms to be used with various remote sensing instruments for broad community use. Wave-based depth inversion describes a branch of coastal remote sensing, which uses video recordings of a wave-field to derive depths and thereby create digital maps of coastal bathymetries. The technique utilizes the fact that waves react to the underlying bathymetry by changing their length and celerity, respectively getting shorter and slower as the water depth gets shallower. Waves may also change their direction due to refraction. Depth inversion techniques using surface wave patterns can handle clear and turbid waters and thereby a variety of global coastal environments. The idea to use observed wave characteristics as a proxy for the underlying bathymetry already came up during the time of the second world war, when the aim was to acquire bathymetry information for military landing operations. Starting around the 1980’s, the idea received more attention among the coastal engineering community, as increased computational power enabled easier analysis of wave-field recordings through spectral decompositions. Since then, different depth inversion algorithms (DIA) have been developed in pursuit of getting increasingly accurate bathymetry maps. Besides estimating depths, some DIAs also incorporate functionalities to map wave propagation directions and wave celerity, and even near-surface currents from wave-field video. While the video recording instruments resemble the hardware, DIAs resemble the software needed for wavebased coastal remote sensing (WCRS). Yet, WCRS is a specialistic branch within the coastal engineering and -user community. The technique typically requires a certain amount of user-expertise and it has mostly been applied in research settings. While data can be retrieved on kilometre scale with XBand-radars and cameras, it was historically difficult to scale up WCRS to entire coasts, which was a reason to discontinue its application in the Netherlands. Besides land-based instruments (i.e., XBand-radars, fixed camera stations) in the meantime also airborne UAVs, and space-borne satellites can be used to record a wave field, making WCRS more flexible and scalable. These recording instruments have also become more accessible. Moreover, DIAs – the software required to analyse the wave recordings – can be used interchangeably on data of these different instruments. This means that WCRS becomes potentially attractive to a broad user-community of coastal managers, the industry and the coast guard. However, DIAs still restrict broad usage of WCRS: while an important step has been taken in the open accessibility of DIAs, much is still to be gained in their handling and computational speed. This study aims to improve upon that, by building towards operational, self-adaptive and intelligent algorithms, which can provide maps of depth, near-surface currents and wave hydrodynamics on-the-fly. For this purpose, video data from a variety of instruments (fixed camera station, UAV, XBandradar, satellite) on different spatial scales 𝑂(100 m2,1 km2,10 km2,100 km2) and field-sites around the world (Netherlands, UK, USA, Australia, France) are analysed. Combining rapid processing capabilities with a broad applicability this study forms a stepping stone for a potentially broad WCRS user community. The analyses are presented going from land-based to air-borne to space-borne WCRS. This is done in three stages from (1) applying an operational DIA on XBand radar data, to (2) applying an on-the-fly DIA on camera and UAV data, to finally (3) applying a DIA on temporally sparse satellite data.First, a DIA named XMFit (X-Band Matlab Fitting) is introduced, which is robust, accurate and fast enough for operational use. This is achieved through an iterative procedure that selects the best result among a series of depth and near-surface current estimates. For this study, video data from XBand-radars are analysed. Focusing on depth estimates, XMFit is validated for two case studies in the Netherlands: (1) the “Sand Engine”, a beach mega nourishment at a uniform open coast, and (2) the tidal inlet of the Dutch Wadden Sea island Ameland, characterizing a more complex coast. Considering both sites, the algorithm performance is characterized by a spatially averaged depth bias of −0.9 m at the Sand Engine (corresponding to an 18 h snapshot of the field site) and a time-varying bias of approximately −2–0 m at the Ameland Inlet (corresponding to a one-year time evolution with varying hydrodynamic conditions). When compared to in-situ depth surveys the accuracy is lower, but the time resolution higher. Dutch in-situ surveys typically occur annually, while depth estimates from the Ameland tidal inlet are produced every 50 min by an operational system using a navigational X-Band radar. It enables to monitor the placement of a 5 Mm3 ebb-tidal delta nourishment – a pilot measure for coastal management. Volumetric changes in the nourishment area over the year 2018, occurring at 7 km distance from the radar, are estimated with an error of 7 %. Depth errors statistically correlate with the direction and magnitude of simultaneous near-surface current estimates. Additional experiments on Sand Engine data demonstrate that depth errors may be significantly reduced using an alternative spectral approach and/or by using a Kalman filter. Having demonstrated the potential of DIAs for operational application, the next step is to design an algorithm that can self-adapt to video from any field-site and can process it on-the-fly. To do so, a DIA is designed whose code architecture for the first time includes the Dynamic Mode Decomposition (DMD) to reduce the data complexity of wavefield video. The DMD is paired with loss-functions to handle spectral noise, and a novel spectral storage system and Kalman filter to achieve fast converging measurements. The algorithm is showcased for videos from ARGUS stations and drones recorded at fieldsites in the USA, UK, Netherlands, and Australia. The performance with respect to mapping bathymetry is validated using ground truth data. It is demonstrated that merely 32 s of video footage is needed for a first mapping update with average depth errors of 0.9–2.6 m. These further reduce to 0.5–1.4 m as the videos continue and more mapping updates are returned. Simultaneously, coherent maps for wave direction and -celerity are achieved as well as maps of local near-surface currents. The algorithm is capable of mapping the coastal parameters on-the-fly and thereby offers analysis of video feeds, such as from drones or operational camera installations. Hence, the innovative application of analysis techniques like the DMD enables both accurate and unprecedentedly fast coastal reconnaissance. With a skilled, intelligent DIA at hand, the question remains whether it can also be used on satellite imagery, as that would further broaden the application range. DIAs commonly analyse video from shore-based camera stations, UAVs or XBandradars with durations of minutes and at framerates of 1–2 fps to find relevant wave frequencies. However, these requirements are typically not met by raw, temporally sparse satellite imagery. To overcome this problem a preprocessing step is utilized. Here, a sequence of 12 images of Capbreton, France, collected over a period of ∼1.5 min at a framerate of 1/8 fps by the Pleiades satellite, is augmented to a pseudo-video with a framerate of 1 fps. For this purpose a recently developed method is used, which considers spatial pathways of propagating waves for temporal video reconstruction. The resulting video is subsequently processed with the self-adaptive DIA. The combination of image augmentation with a frequency-based depth inversion method shows potential for broad application to temporally sparse satellite imagery and thereby aids in the effort towards broad usage of WCRS for mapping coastal bathymetry data around the globe. By improving DIAs and their application to different instruments, this study has helped to increase the technological readiness of WCRS and its potential to be adopted by end-users. It was shown that WCRS can be performed on wave field records of land-based, airborne and space-born instruments and therewith on scales ranging from 𝑂(100 m2)(fixed camera) to 𝑂(100 km2)(X-band radar,satellite). The cost of WCRS is minor, as existing navigational X-band radars can be used, affordable UAVs and cameras, and accessible satellite data. X-band radars can operationally monitor complex coastal environments and recognize morphological trends, UAVs and cameras can be used for fast lean-and-mean mapping of coastal bathymetry, and by estimating depths from satellite imagery valuable data can be collected in otherwise data-poor environments. Yet, further steps should be taken in the accessibility, multifunctionality, quality, robustness and user-friendliness of WCRS. The key takeaway for effective WCRS monitoring is that future developments should strive towards integrated, self-adaptive software, which gives prompt visual response and requires little user-expertise. These measures reduce the difficulty to learn WCRS, increase its compatibility with data from different instruments (Xband-radars, cameras, UAVs, satellites) and thereby enable relatively easy coastal measurements. As a consequence WCRS becomes more adoptable by the coastal remote sensing community. With the exponential growth of data volumes worldwide, future data clouds may facilitate storage and offer future perspectives for online integration of data with numerical models and modern data science techniques like neural networks. This may create new possibilities for understanding system dynamics and thereby further aid decision makers in coastal management, the industry and the coast guard.

Industrial enterprises are one of the main causes of air pollution in eastern China. How to monitor them efficiently is directly related to the result of air pollution control in China. However, the monitoring of enterprises now mainly relies on the ground online monitoring technology, and only for some large enterprises, some small and medium-sized enterprises will be missed which also contribute a lot to the air pollution. Based on the satellite remote sensing technology, this paper explores an operational method of monitoring the whole coverage of pollution enterprises from macro to micro, focusing on monitoring the regional pollution status results of the pollution enterprises and identifying the key monitoring objects including the small and medium-sized ones. Based on the air pollutants retrieval results of satellite remote sensing, a remote sensing high-occurrence index model of air pollution is built. By using the pollution focused grid extract method and high-resolution satellite image identification technology, the key monitoring objects of pollution enterprises can be extracted. The result of the application cases in eastern China and the typical districts show that the remote sensing high-occurrence index model can clearly reflect the comprehensive pollution status by the pollution enterprises; validation of the identification rate of the small and middle-sized enterprises can reach over 77%, which has made a great progress compared with the inspection only relying on the supervision personnel in the absence of specific objects. The method proposed in this paper can greatly improve the scientific and accurate supervision level of environmental management.

In order to develop the scientific and technical foundations of creating an artificial intelligence system for monitoring terrorist acts, the paper presents the results of a study of the amplitude-frequency spectra of acoustic emission (AE) of the combustion process of cellulose-containing materials (as one of the main materials used to carry out arson and attacks in organizing terrorist actions in the form of law and order violations in the local territory) of various physicochemical composition. The technical implementation of this effect in the development of automated devices for monitoring acoustic space as part of an operational monitoring system for the terrorist zone, aimed at early identification of the sources of terrorist threats to the normal functioning of the local territory of the state.

This work presents a practical approach to reconstructing past and present discharge and water depth time series for operational monitoring of small-sized ungauged watersheds using remotely sensed and freely accessible datasets in conjunction with hydrological models. The methodology was applied to the Tsiribihina watershed in Madagascar. Mostly, satellite data are used, such as water levels from satellite altimetry missions and rainfall from the African Rainfall Climatology 2 product. In contrast, the Modelo de Grandes Bacias is calibrated using historical discharge measurements to simulate distributed discharge in the basin. Rating curves are computed by crossing the altimetry information of water height with the simulated discharge outputs. These rating curves enable the conversion of water levels, discharge and depth interchangeably. Present-day discharge and depth can thus be estimated in near real time with any update of satellite rainfall data and/or water level gained by altimetry missions currently flying in operational mode.

Assessment of the information space allows you to determine the possible causes (conditions) of the crisis and the characteristics of the information impact for any information activities that will be planned. One of the promising such scientific studies is the substantiation of a method for monitoring information impact in the interests of providing information activities. The essence of the information impact monitoring method is to assess information activities, namely: identifying information impact; the level of information impact; formation of conclusions and decisions on the need to counteract information impact; planning of countermeasures, approval of a plan of countermeasures; implementation of countermeasures according to the plan. In each information event there are certain indicators by which the characteristics of information are assessed and the conditions are determined by which a destructive orientation can be carried out for any information processes (actions, facts) in the information space of the country. Considering that these components have their own informational correction, in particular, they are found in the information space of the state (actions, facts), or phenomena can reduce the level of the moral and psychological state of the personnel of troops (forces) to a state when the personnel are not able to effectively perform tasks as intended , then in the above method it is proposed to consider these issues in two directions. These areas are the level of operational monitoring of the analysis of current information and the level of operational monitoring of the forecast of the development of information surges.

The article presents the climatological dataset from the Polish Polar Station Hornsund located in the southwest part of Spitsbergen – the biggest island of the Svalbard archipelago. Due to a general lack of long-term in situ measurements and observations, the High Arctic remains one of the largest climate-data-deficient regions on the Earth. Therefore, the described time series of observations in this paper are of unique value. To draw conclusions on the climatic changes in the Arctic, it is necessary to analyse and compare the long-term series of continuous, in situ observations from different locations, rather than relying on the climatic simulations only. In recent decades, rapid environmental changes occurring in the Atlantic sector of the Arctic are reflected in the data series collected by the operational monitoring conducted at the Hornsund station. We demonstrate the results of the 40-year-long series of observations. Climatological mean values or totals are given, and we also examined the variability of meteorological variables at monthly and annual scale using the modified Mann–Kendall test for trend and Sen's method. The relevant daily, monthly, and annual data are provided on the PANGAEA repository (https://doi.org/10.1594/PANGAEA.909042, Wawrzyniak and Osuch, 2019).

The goal of the Canadian Arctic Weather Science (CAWS) project is to conduct research into the future operational monitoring and forecasting programs of Environment and Climate Change Canada in the Arctic where increased economic and recreational activities are expected with enhanced transportation and search and rescue requirements. Due to cost, remoteness and vast geographical coverage, the future monitoring concept includes a combination of space-based observations, sparse in situ surface measurements, and advanced reference sites. A prototype reference site has been established at Iqaluit, Nunavut (63°45'N, 68°33'W), that includes a Ka-band radar, water vapor lidars (both in-house and commercial versions), multiple Doppler lidars, ceilometers, radiation flux, and precipitation sensors. The scope of the project includes understanding of the polar processes, evaluating new technologies, validation of satellite products, validation of numerical weather prediction systems, development of warning products, and communication of their risk to a variety of users. This contribution will provide an overview of the CAWS project to show some preliminary results and to encourage collaborations.

International audience; In 2017-2019, a seismic swarm was triggered in the Maurienne valley (French Alps), with more than 5000 events detected by the regional SISmalp network. The population, who asked SISmalp to provide information on the processes and the associated risk, felt many earthquakes. In a post-L'Aquila trial context, we conducted a reflection on the scientific and social operational management of the crisis. The geological and tectonic analysis, the deployment of a temporary seismic network, an automatic double-difference relocation procedure (HypoDD) after clustering earthquakes, as well as the interactions with the population and the risk managers, have been carried out jointly. The length and unpredictability of the sequence complicated crisis management and the relations between local authorities and civil protection. The involvement of SISmalp, beyond its main scientific and observation prerogatives, has contributed to moderate the fears of the population by providing scientific explanations.

Prosjektleder Jonas Persson I 2021 ble bunndyr i utvalgte bekker fra steinbruddene i områdene Tvedalen og Tjølling prøvetatt. Stasjonene er plassert slik at de skal kunne måle påvirkninger fra bruddene. Referansestasjoner, som er lite eller upåvirket av avrenning fra bruddene, er også inkludert. Resultatene tyder på at bruddet Klåstad ikke har en tydelig påvirkning på bunndyrene ved stasjonen undersøkt i 2021 (KLÅ4). Bruddene Tvedalen mot Askedalsbekken, Saga Pearl og Håkestad viser derimot påvirkning i 2021 (lavere PSI-verdier enn ved referansestasjonene). Påvirkningen fra Tvedalen mot Askedalsbekken har blitt mindre etter at etablering av sedimentasjonsdam har redusert utslippene av partikulært stoff. Bedringen er mer stabil ved stasjonen ASK_opp, men det er fortsatt stor variasjon i tilstand ved ASK som ligger lengre nedstrøms i et mer roligflytende parti av bekken. Ved stasjonen fra bruddet Håkestad var det i 2020 og 2021 en betydelig større påvirkning av finsediment enn de tidligere årene.

Prosjektleder Sigurd Øxnevad NIVA har utført tiltaksorientert overvåking av Husebybukta på Lista i 2021 på oppdrag for Alcoa Lista. Overvåkingsprogrammet er utarbeidet i henhold til vannforskriften og godkjent av Miljødirektoratet. Programmet er utformet på bakgrunn av bedriftens utslippskomponenter til sjøen. I overvåkingen er det gjort analyser av PAH-forbindelser, arsen, bly, kadmium, kobber, krom, kvikksølv, nikkel og sink i prøver av albusnegl fra fem stasjoner. Det ble også gjort overvåking av bly og kadmium i vannprøver fra Husebybukta. Det var overskridelse av grenseverdi for PAH-forbindelsene benzo(a)pyren og fluoranten i albusnegl fra Haugestranda, og for fluoranten i albusnegl fra Tjuvholmen. Kjemisk tilstand for disse stasjonene klassifiseres derfor som «ikke god». Kjemisk tilstand for de andre tre stasjonene for albusnegl settes til «god». Albusnegl fra Haugestranda og Einarsneset hadde noe høyere konsentrasjon av PAH-forbindelser i 2021 enn i 2020. For stasjonene Tjuvholmen og Havik var nivået av PAH16 omtrent halvert i forhold til i 2020. Det ble ikke påvist PAH-forbindelser i albusneglene fra Østhassel i 2021. Det var ikke overskridelse av grenseverdier for årlig gjennomsnitt (AA-EQS) for bly og kadmium i sjøvann. Kjemisk tilstand for vannprøvestasjon Haugestranda klassifiseres derfor som «god».

Prosjektleder/Hovedforfatter Sissel Brit Ranneklev NIVA har gjennomført tiltaksorientert overvåking i Hvalerestuaret på oppdrag for Kronos Titan og Borregaard. Borregaard har utslipp av metaller og AOX, mens Kronos har utslipp av metaller og fluorid. Konsentrasjoner av metaller, fluorider og dioksiner ble målt i blåskjell og blæretang i Hvalerestuaret. I blåskjellstasjonen på Kirkøy som er nærmest Glommas munning, og Tisler som er lengst unna Glommas munning, var konsentrasjonene av kvikksølv over grenseverdi gitt i vannforskriften, og ikke god kjemisk tilstand ble oppnådd. I blåskjellstasjonen mellom Kirkøy og Tisler, Kvernskjæret, ble god kjemisk tilstand oppnådd med hensyn til kvikksølv. Konsentrasjoner av dioksiner målt i blåskjell på Kirkøy, var godt under grenseverdi gitt i vannforskriften. De andre metallene målt i biota kunne ikke klassifiseres, da det mangler grenseverdier i vannforskriften.

Prosjektleder Maia Røst Kile Denne rapporten presenterer årets resultater fra undersøkelser av biologiske og kjemiske forhold i Glomma ved Borregaard Fabrikker. Hensikten har vært å vurdere effekter av bedriftens utslipp på økologiske og kjemiske forhold i vassdraget fra 2015 til 2021, identifisere mulige tidstrender og undersøke rekruttering av laks. Prøver av bunnfauna, alger og heterotrof begroing tyder på at bedriftens utslipp påvirker nedre Glomma. Mens referansestasjonen oppstrøms Sarpsfossen varierer mellom god og moderat tilstand er samtlige stasjoner nedstrøms ett eller flere utslippspunkter i moderat eller dårlig økologisk tilstand. God kjemisk tilstand ble oppnådd på begge stasjoner som ble analysert for metaller. Estimert tetthet av laksunger (0+) på grusørene i 2021 var betydelig høyere enn tidligere år. Undersøkelse av fargemerking (settefisk) i et lite utvalg individer, antydet at naturlig reproduksjon i betydelig grad bidro til ungfiskpopulasjonen i 2021.

Prosjektleder Sigurd Øxnevad NIVA har gjennomført tiltaksorientert overvåking av Ranfjorden i 2021 på oppdrag for Mo Industripark AS, Celsa Armeringsstål AS, Elkem ASA Rana, Ferroglobe Mangan Norge, Miljøteknikk Terrateam AS, Rana Gruber AS og Rana kommune. Overvåkingsprogrammet er utført i henhold til Vannforskriften på bakgrunn av hvilke stoffer som bedriftene og kommunen har utslipp av til Ranfjorden. Hensikten med overvåkingen har vært å identifisere hvorvidt utslippene påvirker vannforekomstens kjemiske og økologiske tilstand. Kjemisk tilstand ble bestemt ved analyse av miljøgifter i prøver av blåskjell fra tre stasjoner og i sedimentprøver fra fire stasjoner. Det ble gjort analyser av metaller (arsen, bly, kadmium, kobber, krom, kvikksølv, nikkel og sink), polysykliske aromatiske hydrokarboner (PAH), polyklorerte bifenyler (PCB), perfluorerte alkylstoffer (PFAS) og tinnorganiske forbindelser. Det ble også analysert for flotasjonskjemikaliet Lilaflot D817M og total mengde hydrokarboner (THC) i sedimentprøver. Økologisk tilstand ble bestemt ved overvåking av bløtbunnsfauna på tolv stasjoner. Ni av disse hadde tilstand dårligere enn «god», og utstrekningen av påvirket areal har økt. Kjemisk tilstand for tre av sedimentstasjonene klassifiseres som «ikke god» på grunn av overskridelse av grenseverdier for prioriterte stoffer. Kjemisk tilstand for blåskjellstasjonen nord for Toraneskaia klassifiseres som «ikke god» på grunn av overskridelse av grenseverdi for det prioriterte stoffet benzo(a)pyren. De to andre blåskjellstasjonene var i «god» kjemisk tilstand.

Prosjektleder Gunhild Borgersen NIVA har gjennomført tiltaksorientert overvåking i henhold til vannforskriften i Håøyfjorden ved Sætre i Asker kommune i 2020/21, på oppdrag for Chemring Nobel AS. Hensikten med overvåkingen har vært å identifisere hvorvidt bedriftens utslipp påvirker vannforekomstens økologiske tilstand. Overvåkingen omfattet undersøkelse av de biologiske kvalitetselementene makroalger (ved nedre voksegrense), bløtbunnsfauna og planteplankton (ved klorofyll a), og de fysisk-kjemiske kvalitetselementene næringssalter, siktdyp og oksygen i bunnvann. Den økologiske tilstanden for makroalger var «god» på tre stasjoner og «moderat» på én stasjon. Én stasjon kunne ikke klassifiseres. For bløtbunnsfauna var den økologiske tilstanden «god» på to stasjoner og «moderat» på to stasjoner. Det var høyt innhold av totalt organisk karbon og totalt nitrogen i sedimentet på de fire bunnfaunastasjonene. Tilstanden for planteplankton ble klassifisert til «dårlig», basert på høye verdier av klorofyll a i 5 og 10 m dyp. Tilstanden for siktdyp var også «dårlig». Tilstanden for næringssalter ble vurdert til «svært god» for sommersesongen, men «dårlig» for vintersesongen basert på høye verdier for nitrat og nitritt.

Prosjektleder Merete Schøyen NIVA har utført tiltaksorientert overvåking i henhold til vannforskriften i Karmsundet i 2021. Ved syv blåskjellstasjoner og åtte sedimentsstasjoner har det blitt analysert for et utslippsrelevant utvalg av de prioriterte stoffene kvikksølv (Hg), bly (Pb), kadmium (Cd), nikkel (Ni), en rekke PAH-forbindelser og PFOS. Det ble også analysert for de vannregionspesifikke stoffene arsen (As), krom (Cr), kobber (Cu), sink (Zn), en rekke PAH-forbindelser og PFOA. Det har blir gjort undersøkelser av bløtbunnsfauna ved seks stasjoner og fjæresone ved to stasjoner. For de prioriterte stoffene i blåskjell var det overskridelser av grenseverdier (EQS) for PAH-forbindelsene benzo(a)pyren og fluoranten på stasjon KB6-Høgevarde, og kjemisk tilstand var «ikke god». For de andre seks blåskjellstasjonene var kjemisk tilstand «god». For de prioriterte stoffene i sedimenter var det overskridelser for Hg og flere PAH-forbindelser, og kjemisk tilstand var «ikke god» på seks av åtte stasjoner. Undersøkelsen av bløtbunnsfauna viste at den økologiske tilstanden var «god» på tre stasjoner og «dårlig» på tre stasjoner. Undersøkelsen av makroalgevegetasjonen i fjæresonen viste «god» økologisk tilstand på de to stasjonene som var undersøkt.

Prosjektleder Asle Økelsrud NIVA har gjennomført tiltaksorientert overvåking av Hemnefjorden i 2021 på oppdrag for Wacker Chemicals Norway AS. Overvåkingsprogrammet er utført i henhold til vannforskriften på bakgrunn av hvilke stoffer som bedriften har utslipp av til Hemnefjorden. Hensikten med overvåkingen har vært å identifisere hvorvidt bedriftens utslipp påvirker vannforekomstens kjemiske tilstand og økologiske tilstand. Det ble gjort analyser av PAH-forbindelser og metaller i prøver av blåskjell fra fire stasjoner. Det ble ikke målt konsentrasjoner i blåskjellprøvene som overskred grenseverdi (EQS) for noen av de prioriterte stoffene, kvikksølv, antracen, benzo(a)pyren, fluoranten og naftalen. Blåskjellstasjonene var derfor i «god kjemisk tilstand». Det er marginale endringer i konsentrasjoner av målte prioriterte stoffer fra tidligere års undersøkelser.

Prosjektleder Marijana Stenrud Brkljacic I 2020/2021 har det blitt gjennomført tiltaksorientert overvåking i Tista og Iddefjorden på oppdrag for Norske Skog Saugbrugs AS. Avløpsvannet fra Saugbrugs inneholder forhøyede nivåer av organisk stoff, suspendert materiale og næringssalter som ledes ut i elven Tista og renner videre ut i Iddefjorden. Det har blitt utført undersøkelser av biologiske- og fysisk-kjemiske kvalitetselementer samt metaller i sediment i resipientene. Økologisk tilstand i elven ble klassifisert til «moderat» tilstand oppstrøms og «dårlig» tilstand nedstrøms bedriftens utslippspunkter, med bunndyr som det utslagsgivende kvalitetselementet. Vannforekomsten Tista tilfredsstiller dermed ikke vanndirektivets mål om god økologisk tilstand. Det samme er tilfelle for undersøkte stasjoner i Iddefjorden. To av stasjonene som ligger utenfor Tistas munningsområde, ble klassifisert til hhv. «svært dårlig» og «moderat» økologisk tilstand, med bløtbunnsfauna som det utslagsgivende kvalitetselement. Den ytterste stasjonen i Ringdalsfjorden har «god» tilstand for bløtbunnsfauna, men de fysisk-kjemiske kvalitetselementene i vannmassene (næringssalter og siktdyp) får «dårlig» tilstand og trekker ned den økologisk tilstanden til «moderat». På den innerste stasjonen i Iddefjorden ble det kun utført undersøkelser i vannmassene, og den økologiske tilstanden blir klassifisert til «dårlig». Det var lavt innhold av metaller i sedimentene ved de to undersøkte stasjonene i Iddefjorden: Det var ingen overskridelser for de vannregionspesifikke stoffene sink, kobber, krom og arsen, og kjemisk tilstand ble klassifisert til «god» på bakgrunn av de prioriterte stoffene kadmium, bly, nikkel og kvikksølv. Prosjektleder/Hovedforfatter Sigurd Øxnevad NIVA har gjennomført tiltaksorientert overvåking av Vefsnfjorden for Alcoa Mosjøen i 2021. Programmet er utformet på bakgrunn av bedriftens utslippskomponenter til Vefsnfjorden. Det ble analysert blåskjell fra seks stasjoner. På tre stasjoner i den indre delen av fjorden ble det plassert ut blåskjell. Det ble brukt blåskjell fra den ytterste stasjonen (Sørneset) til utplassering på tre stasjoner innerst i fjorden. Blåskjellprøvene ble analysert for polysykliske aromatiske hydrokarboner (PAH--forbindelser), tungmetaller (arsen, bly, kadmium, krom, kobber, kvikksølv, nikkel og sink) og fluorid. Det var lave konsentrasjoner av PAH-forbindelser i blåskjellene, og avtagende konsentrasjoner fra Finnvika og ut til Sørneset. Det var lave konsentrasjoner av PAH-forbindelsene som hører til de prioriterte stoffene i Vannforskriften. Det var ingen overskridelser av grenseverdi for prioriterte stoffer i blåskjellene fra stasjonene Finnvika til og med Alterneset. På de to ytterste stasjonene var det overskridelse av grenseverdi for kvikksølv. De to ytre stasjonene klassifiseres derfor til «ikke god» kjemisk tilstand. Stasjonene Finnvika, Rynes, Åsmulen og Alterneset var i «god» kjemisk tilstand. Det var lave konsentrasjoner av fluorid i blåskjellene. Det var noe høyere konsentrasjon av fluorid i blåskjellene fra Rynes, som sto utplassert i nærheten av utslippspunktet for sigevann fra deponiene. Blåskjellene fra stasjonen ved Rynes var «moderat forurenset» av fluorid.

Because of the inherent complexity of urban brownfield regeneration projects, achieving sustainability objectives is not easy. It requires approaches adapted to the specificities of this type of operation, that allow for structured and regular follow-up, and that are integrated into the project dynamics. In this chapter, we argue that sustainability monitoring can help address this challenge. We start by defining the principles of sustainability evaluation and monitoring. Then, we look deeper at the challenges of an operational monitoring tool from the brownfield regeneration perspective. On this basis, we plead for the necessity of tailor-made operational monitoring tools for this type of operation and define, to this end, three general requirements for said tools. Finally, we make a critical analysis of existing certifications at the neighbourhood scale and different approaches developed for brownfield regeneration projects.

Industrial Digitalization and Automation (DA), promoted through new production paradigms such as Industry 4.0 currently dominates the strategy agendas of industrial companies. However, practitioners report various problems while implementing DA into their organizations work-routines. We find underlying problems in missing operational monitoring systems to assess and control the DA-implementation status. We therefore propose a holistic monitoring system using 143 developed DA-implementation key performance indicators in nine dimensions. Moreover, we integrate the monitoring system into a continuous improvement approach following the PDCA-circle. First applications show increased objectivity during initial KPI-status assessments, higher acceptance of defined KPI-target-states and increased alignment during definition of future DA-projects.

Annotation Purpose. Effective soil decompressing in modern crop production technologies. Methods. Analysis of modern methods of monitoring the physical condition of the soil, the method of radio wave profiling of the surface of the field, the method of synthesis of technical means, the theory of automatic control. Results. Model ultrasonic monitoring of the depth of the soil compacted layer, the device of forming a control signal to change the depth of the working body of the soil ripper, the results of the device study for operational determination depth of the compacted soil layer. Conclusions. The method of continuous radio wave profiling of the surface of the field in the movement of the ITA allows to effectively determine the depth of the location of the compacted soil layer in modern technologies of crop production. The device for operational control of the depth of the soil cultivator of the agricultural ITA allows to effectively loosen the soil while reducing fuel consumption by 20% and increasing the productivity of the unit by 10%. In order to control the chemical composition of atmospheric air in cities located in the zone of influence of petrochemical enterprises, automatic atmospheric air monitoring stations (ASKAV) are installed. For the effective use of experimental data, the authors of the article developed a data collection system with ASKAV, in which the air control in residential quarters and the gas mixture at the source of organized emissions are synchronized. The analysis of data on the concentration of pollutants in the atmospheric air of the Sterlitamak obtained from ASKAV, on the basis of which a list of marker substances for enterprises of the city was compiled. Priority sources of air pollution with marker substances during a different wind regime were identified. The authors developed models for changing the concentration of marker substances in the air using the method of factor regression. Based on the results of the cross-correlation function, the time of movement of the contaminated gas cloud from the source of emission to the residential area of the city is obtained. Conclusions are made about the effectiveness of the developed air monitoring system and the field of application of the acquired models.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between crop yields and total chlorophyll potential of different barley and oats cultivars. For this purpose, we used the spectra of grain crops obtained from ground-based remote sensing, and laboratory data. Ground-based data were obtained at the experimental fields located in the Krasnoyarskii Krai. Experiments were carried out in different seasons and under various lighting conditions. Spectral measurements were done with a double-beam spectrophotometer. It was installed on the mobile work platform at heights of 5 to 18 m. The study showed good correlation between crop yields and total chlorophyll potential for barley and oats cultivars

The article discusses the fields and methods of application of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). Current legislation in Russia and in the world, significantly limit the use of UAV in monitoring. For the first time, we present a solution to the problem of a monitoring measurement system included in the state register of measuring instruments using the example of the basic UAV model. We conducted an analysis of promising approaches to the creation of UAV metrological and methodological support, as well as ways to adapt their target load to meet the challenges of operational monitoring of air pollution.
