Portland's international airport, PDX, has opened a new main terminal that sets a new standard for air travel. The terminal was designed by local architecture firm ZGF and features extensive prefabrication in mass timber. The terminal is filled with trees and has a cool and calming atmosphere, inviting a slower pace. The project reflects the region's heritage and aims to drive the local economy with equity. The new terminal almost doubles the footprint and volume of its predecessor and uses about 50% less energy. The expansion increases the airport's capacity to 35 million passengers annually.
