Integration is a hot topic in our society today and we have a greater influence of other religious beliefs than ever before. As Swedish society grows with influences from other cultures to a greater extent, the Swedish political agenda focuses more and more on integration. I perceive working for integration in a multicultural society as something of a balancing act on the framework of laws and regulations that we must comply to with in Sweden. For example, according to the Freedom of Religion Act, we all have the right to practice religion and believe what we want, while the law also gives us the right to refrain from having a religious belief. Following, interpreting, and considering the Freedom of Religion Act can sometimes be complex, as religion has many definitions and in many cases is so much more than just a belief. In many cases, a person's identity and cultural background are strongly influenced by religious traditions and moral positions. The purpose of my study is to widen the knowledge about the relation between integration and freedom of religion by investigating how the political integration agenda works together with the Freedom of Religion Act. This have I tried to achieve through a discursive analysis of motions of the Swedish Riksdag. Three questions are posed to guide the study: Do the motions highlight religion as a factor to be considered in connection with the political integration work? Do the motions present religion as inner faith or something more cultural and/or identity-based? Are the proposed integration policy measures compatible with the Freedom of Religion Act? I have found in my study that the integration policy is compatible with religious freedom on certain levels. On which levels and to what extent it differs between the various parties, as well as on how to define religion and religious freedom., Syftet med min studie är att fördjupa kunskaperna kring relationerna mellan integration och religionsfrihet utifrån hur diskursen i politiska motioner utspelar sig. Såväl integration som religionsfrihet är två debatterade ämnen och jag vill med min studie se om dessa är förenliga med varandra. Denna studie är utförd med diskursanalys utav 33 riksdagsmotioner inlämnade under perioderna 21/22 samt 22/23 som berör integration och religionsfrihet eller integration och religion. Resultatet av min analys har jag nått genom att som utgång använda mig av diskursteorin och dess begrepp. Analysen har sedan legat till grund för att genom diskussion finna svar på om det integrationspolitiska arbetet som framställs i motionerna är förenligt med lagen om religionsfrihet. Jag har i min studie funnit att man i politiska motioner artikulerar religion i samband med integration samt att integrationspolitiken på vissa plan är förenlig med lagen om religionsfriheten. På vilka plan och i vilken utsträckning den är det skiljer sig åt mellan de olika partierna samt på hur man definierar religion och religionsfrihet.

The airline industry has been heavily affected by crises that have occurred in the last years. By using the theory of brand legitimacy and storytelling, a multimodal critical discourse analysis was conducted. 2020 is a year by many seen as a paradigm shift, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, the study will examine marketing communication from 2018 and 2022 to get pre- and post-pandemic perspectives. The investigated organization in this study is SAS. By comparing the years 2018 and 2022, the study aims to find fruitful understanding in how the brand legitimizing story has changed. Two commercials, one from 2018 and one from 2022, together with selected Instagram posts have been the material under investigation. The conclusion that was drawn is that there has been a shift in the way the organization builds brand legitimacy. The focus has shifted from communicating the good the organization contributes to, creating moral brand legitimacy, to creating pragmatic brand legitimacy by depicting the real essence of traveling, the journey itself. The first time period was influenced by deep emotions and highlighted the arrival back home. The later period is rather filled with humor and motives for traveling. The airline’s marketing position has changed from being an inspirational life changing actor to depicting themselves for what they are, an airline. This is seen as a product of the critical external factors that have surrounded the airline throughout the last years. Several brand legitimizing types were also found in their Instagram posts, however not to the same extent. In addition to this, the result shows that an organization strongly troubled by an environmental crisis, performing in a criticized industry, seeks to ignore the environmental discourse in their marketing communication. The focus is rather put on other narratives to create legitimacy.

In this study, we aim to contribute to the field of critical health communication research by examining how notions of mental health and illness are discursively constructed in newspapers and magazines in six European countries and how these constructions relate to specific understandings of mental health literacy. Using the method of cluster-agon analysis, we identified four terminological clusters in our data, in which mental health/illness is conceptualized as "dangerous," "a matter of lifestyle," "a unique story and experience," and "socially situated." We furthermore found that we cannot unambiguously assume that biopsychiatric discourses or discourses aimed at empathy and understanding are either exclusively stigmatizing or exclusively empowering and normalizing. We consequently call for a critical conception of mental health literacy arguing that all mental health news socializes its audience in specific understandings of and attitudes toward mental health (knowledge) and that discourses on mental health/illness can work differently in varying contexts.

The Story of the Refugees: A Qualitative Analysis of how Refugees and Refugeeism are Portrayed in Contemporary Picture Books The aim of this study is to examine how refugees and refugeeism is portrayed in contemporary picture books. The study takes an intersectional and a discursive perspective, investigating how power structures and categories such as gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and class interact to narrate the characters as well as the storyline and theme of the books. The purpose is to outline the systematic description of refugeeism and integration in picture books. The study is based on an analysis of twelve picture books for children between the age 3–6, published in the last four years, accessible in schools of Malmö City, and its Public Library. The results of this study indicate that the use of picture books can be viewed as a method of social work. They can be used to inform, explain and educate children about social problems and work to create dialog and initiate treatment of trauma or hardship connected to refugeeism. Moreover, through focusing on representativity and avoiding stereotyping minority groups within society, such as refugees, picture books has the potential to be an effective tool within social work practice against discrimination. By highlighting this, the present study provides important insights into the construction of refugeeism and refugee stories communicated to children.

This paper reports on an ongoing study focusing on the teaching of functions in undergraduate courses in mathematics at three Swedish universities. In this paper two excerpts of lectures on linear transformations are analysed, using commognitive theory. The two teachers' discursive uses of the terms 'linearity' and 'linear transformation' are described, and potential consequences for student learning are presented. One lecture displays a strong mathematical content while lacking contextualization, while the other is well grounded in everyday experience, but with a lack of attention to mathematical detail potentially detrimental to student learning.

This paper reports on an ongoing study focusing on the teaching of functions in undergraduate courses in mathematics at three Swedish universities. In this paper excerpts from the lectures of three teachers at one university are analysed, using commognitive theory. Characteristic features of the teachers’ discourses about functions are presented. Definitions are found to be the central type of narrative, while theorems and proofs are largely absent, despite the fact that the teaching is of a traditional type, often connected to the “definition-theorem-proof” format. Three main categories of routines are found: substantiation, construction and motivation routines. It is also seen that the teachers are more concerned with questions of “why” to do things than “when” to do them.

O objetivo com este artigo é discutir a contribuição possível da teoria discursiva da democracia para a concretização do regime democrático em sociedades plurais. Parte-se da reconstrução da democracia na Grécia clássica e da retomada dos ideais clássicos pelos revolucionários do século XVII, até se chegar a modernas propostas que deslocam a referenciabilidade das decisões democráticas do governante para os governados, estabelecendo um novo referencial de legitimidade., The objective of this paper is to discuss the possible contribution of a discursive theory of democracy to achieving democracy in plural societies. It starts with the reconstruction of democracy in classical Greece and the return to classical ideals by he revolutionaries of the seventeenth century, until modern proposals that shift the reference of democratic decisions from the ruler to the ruled, setting a new benchmark of legitimacy.

The aim of this project is to develop a robust methodological translation of the insights of 'culturalist' theoretical positions in communications studies as an alternative through which to approach contemporary media research. The focus is on engagements with alcohol advertising. In Aotearoa/New Zealand, as internationally, there is a significant body of publicly-funded research examining how alcohol advertising affects audiences. However, this thesis contends that important questions need to be asked about the adequacy of these (dominantly positivist) investigations. A review of local research identifies that in theoretical and methodological terms the majority of these studies are riddled with tensions and contradictions. In addition, when located within the context of wider developments in contemporary communication studies, an important epistemological gap is highlighted as requiring attention and debate. Comparison of this local review with international studies highlights similar concerns, particularly around 'effects' driven research, the adequacy of dominant positivist models, and the need to examine epistemological alternatives that can encompass meta, meso, and micro forms of enquiry. A discursive-theoretical approach is then argued as an epistemological alternative that is highly congruent with contemporary communication studies, which, if more robustly translated through methodology and method, could provide a very solid 'culturalist' alternative framework for media research. Taking a contrastive, multi-voiced, context-based approach, the present research focuses on connections, divergences, or disjunctions between different participants' interpretations of, and responses to, themes, ideas and positions they perceive as existing in the ad-texts, and themes and ideas on offer about alcohol in the wider social context.
