Abstract

It is well known the method of determining the center of mass of a triangular piece in which it is hanged from each one of its vertices while drawing from the vertice its verticals. The intersection of the three verticals is considered as the center of mass, verified by equilibrating the piece over a point object. But not everybody knows that the method was developed by Arquimedes 2,300 years ago, determining the geometrical elements to the medians of the triangle. He demonstrated theoretically its result and, inspired on his demonstration we developed another one, which lends to the ideia and methods of the differential and integral calculus., Comment: 10 pages, in Portuguese, 14 figures

Abstract

Background: Alveolar preservation techniques for esthetic or functional purposes, or both, are a frequently used alternative for the treatment of post-extraction sockets, the aim of which is the regeneration of the lesion and the preservation of the alveolar bone crest. Methods: Studies published in PubMed (Medline), Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases up to January 2024 were consulted. Inclusion criteria were established as intervention studies, according to the PICOs strategy: adult subjects undergoing dental extractions (participants), with alveoli treated with bone mineral grafts and collagen membranes (intervention), compared to spontaneous healing (comparison), and observing the response to treatment in clinical and radiological measures of the alveolar bone crest (outcomes). Results: We obtained 561 results and selected 12 studies. Risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool, and methodological quality was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute. Due to the high heterogeneity of the studies (I2 > 75%), a random-effects meta-analysis was used. Despite the trend, no statistical significance (p > 0.05) was found in the experimental groups. Conclusions: The use of bone mineral grafts in combination with resorbable collagen barriers provides greater preservation of the alveolar ridge, although more clinical studies are needed. Abstract

(1) Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is an irreversible disorder of the central nervous system associated with beta-amyloid protein (Aβ) deposition and accumulation. Current treatments can only act on symptoms and not the etiologic agent. Neprilysin and α-bisabolol have been shown to reduce the aggregation of Aβ, suggesting a potential interaction between both molecules, leading to increased proteolytic activity on Aβ aggregates. (2) Methods: Computational simulations were conducted to explore the interaction between murine neprilysin [NEP(m)] and α-bisabolol and their effects on enzymatic activity. NEP(m) structure was predicted using comparative modeling, and the binding pattern to α-bisabolol and its effects on leu-enkephalin binding were explored through docking calculations and molecular dynamics simulations, respectively. (3) Results: The findings suggest that α-bisabolol stabilizes the Val481-Pro488 segment of NEP2(m), which directly interacts with the peptide substrate, enabling an optimized alignment between the catalytic residue Glu525 and leu-enkephalin. (4) Conclusions: This computational evidence strongly supports the notion that α-bisabolol stabilizes peptide substrates at the NEP2(m) catalytic site, leading to the positive modulation of enzymatic activity. Abstract

In this work a broadband Magnetoelectric (ME) dipole antenna for the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) applied to nanosatellites is proposed. The antenna consists of a reflective cavity with open walls containing four gaps to enhance the axial ratio (AR) bandwidth. Additionally, it includes two ME dipoles formed by two pairs of vertical and horizontal copper plates, one of which is trapezoidal and a T-Γ-shaped cross-feeding structure. A prototype was designed and subsequently manufactured and measured. The experimentally obtained results exhibit consistent agreement with simulated outcomes, demonstrating that the antenna has a wide impedance bandwidth of 111.36% from 1.13 GHz to 1.62 GHz for the Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) ≤ 2 and a 3 dB AR bandwidth of 120.45% from 1.10 GHz to 1.63 GHz. Within this range, high gain (≥8.5 dBi) and high radiation efficiency (90%) can be achieved. Furthermore, the antenna exhibits right-hand circular polarization (RHCP) and possesses good unidirectional radiation characteristics with a high front-to-back ratio (≥ 20 dB). Abstract

The present research aims (a) to assess the impact that a learning context has on people, namely in terms of their affective well-being at work; and (b) to understand the role of individual growth need strength in this relationship. A cross-sectional research design was conducted, in which were surveyed 145 public service workers. A structured additive regression (STAR) model was proposed for the analysis of the data. A linear effect of one dimension of learning culture (external adaptation), and a nonlinear effect of individual growth need on affective well-being were identified. Although the moderation effects were not statistically significant, the findings suggested a pattern where a balance between learning culture and individual growth need levels lead to higher values of affective well-being.

Abstract

O direito de sucessão em casos de filiação socioafetiva tem sido objeto de debates e discussões no âmbito jurídico. A filiação socioafetiva ocorre quando existe uma relação de afeto, cuidado e convivência entre uma pessoa e seus pais, mesmo que não exista vínculo biológico ou adoção formal. Nesse contexto, a questão sucessória é relevante, uma vez que os filhos socioafetivos podem ter os mesmos direitos sucessórios que os filhos biológicos ou adotivos. O objetivo deste estudo é identificar a paternidade e maternidade socioafetiva para compreender os efeitos jurídicos decorrentes desse reconhecimento, com ênfase nos direitos sucessórios. A metodologia utilizada é de caráter qualitativo e exploratório, já que a pesquisa exploratória tem como objetivo principal desenvolver, esclarecer e modificar conceitos e ideias, considerando a formulação de problemas mais específicos. Espera-se que este trabalho contribua tanto no âmbito acadêmico quanto no jurídico.

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis and treatment delays increase the period of infectiousness, making TB control difficult and increasing the fatality rates. This study aimed to determine the evolution of health care service delay (time between the patient's first contact with the health service and the diagnosis/start of treatment) and patient delay (time between onset symptoms date and the date of first contact with health services) for Pulmonary Tuberculosis (PTB) in Portugal between 2008 and 2017 across different regions, age groups and gender. METHODS: An exploratory analysis was performed, trends of both delays were studied, and 36 months forecasts were generated. We used the permutation test to test differences between groups and the Seasonal and Trend decomposition using Loess (STL) method and Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) models for forecasting for both Health and Patient delays. We used data from notified PTB cases in mainland Portugal between 2008 and 2017, provided by the national surveillance system. RESULTS: Health delays remained relatively constant while patient delays increased. Females had significantly higher health delays in some regions. Individuals older than 64 had higher health delays than younger individuals, while patient delay for working-age individuals between 15 and 64 years old, presents higher patient delay. CONCLUSIONS: Forecasts presage that the upward trend of the delays is unlikely to fall in the coming years. It is important to understand the evolution of the delays and predict how these will evolve. Our understanding of the delays behaviours will contribute to better health policies and resources allocation. publishersversion published

Abstract

Este artigo visa avaliar como a responsabilidade socioambiental é um fator de competitividade para uma empresa do setor sucroalcooleiro instalada no Estado de Mato Grosso. O desenvolvimento foi embasado nas discussões sobre organizações no âmbito do setor sucroalcooleiro com foco na aplicação da responsabilidade socioambiental. A metodologia utilizada compreendeu o uso da técnica de pesquisa documental e bibliográfica aliada ao estudo de caso estruturado, a partir do cenário do setor sucroalcooleiro. Os resultados obtidos se referem como a responsabilidade socioambiental pode ser considerada um aspecto estratégico e um importante diferencial competitivo no mercado. Os projetos com foco na melhoria contínua do desempenho ambiental da empresa, como a adoção de praticas do seu papel de responsabilidade socioambiental que buscam contribuir para o crescimento e desenvolvimento das comunidades locais e regionais, a preservação do meio ambiente para a perpetuação da empresa, tornaram-se ainda mais credívéis perante aos stakeholders, os quais se mostram cada vez mais sensíveis e reativos às questões socioambientais. AbstractThis article aims to evaluate how socio-environmental responsibility is a factor of competitiveness for a company from the sugar and alcohol industry installed in the State of Mato Grosso. The development was based on discussions on organizations within the scope of the sugar and alcohol sector with a focus on the application of social and environmental responsibility. The methodology used included the use of the documentary and bibliographic research technique allied to the structured case study, based on the scenario of the sugar and alcohol industry. The results obtained refer to how social and environmental responsibility can be considered a strategic aspect and an important competitive differential in the market. The projects focused on the continuous improvement of the company's environmental performance, such as the adoption of practices of its social and environmental responsibility that seek to contribute to the growth and development of local and regional communities, the preservation of the environment for the perpetuation of the company, have made even more credible vis-à-vis stakeholders, who are increasingly sensitive and reactive to social-environmental issues.
