Abstract

With the broader usage and highly successful development of Large Language Models (LLMs), there has been a growth of interest and demand for applying LLMs to autonomous driving technology. Driven by their natural language understanding and reasoning ability, LLMs have the potential to enhance various aspects of autonomous driving systems, from perception and scene understanding to language interaction and decision-making. In this paper, we first introduce novel concepts and approaches to designing LLMs for autonomous driving (LLM4AD). Then, we propose a comprehensive benchmark for evaluating the instruction-following abilities of LLMs within the autonomous driving domain. Furthermore, we conduct a series of experiments on both simulation and real-world vehicle platforms, thoroughly evaluating the performance and potential of our LLM4AD systems. Our research highlights the significant potential of LLMs to enhance various aspects of autonomous vehicle technology, from perception and scene understanding to language interaction and decision-making.

2. StoryDiffusion: Consistent Self-Attention for Long-Range Image and Video Generation

Abstract

For recent diffusion-based generative models, maintaining consistent content across a series of generated images, especially those containing subjects and complex details, presents a significant challenge. In this paper, we propose a new way of self-attention calculation, termed Consistent Self-Attention, that significantly boosts the consistency between the generated images and augments prevalent pretrained diffusion-based text-to-image models in a zero-shot manner. To extend our method to long-range video generation, we further introduce a novel semantic space temporal motion prediction module, named Semantic Motion Predictor. It is trained to estimate the motion conditions between two provided images in the semantic spaces. This module converts the generated sequence of images into videos with smooth transitions and consistent subjects that are significantly more stable than the modules based on latent spaces only, especially in the context of long video generation. By merging these two novel components, our framework, referred to as StoryDiffusion, can describe a text-based story with consistent images or videos encompassing a rich variety of contents. The proposed StoryDiffusion encompasses pioneering explorations in visual story generation with the presentation of images and videos, which we hope could inspire more research from the aspect of architectural modifications. 3. Personalized Autonomous Driving with Large Language Models: Field Experiments

Abstract

Integrating large language models (LLMs) in autonomous vehicles enables conversation with AI systems to drive the vehicle. However, it also emphasizes the requirement for such systems to comprehend commands accurately and achieve higher-level personalization to adapt to the preferences of drivers or passengers over a more extended period. In this paper, we introduce an LLM-based framework, Talk2Drive, capable of translating natural verbal commands into executable controls and learning to satisfy personal preferences for safety, efficiency, and comfort with a proposed memory module. This is the first-of-its-kind multi-scenario field experiment that deploys LLMs on a real-world autonomous vehicle. Experiments showcase that the proposed system can comprehend human intentions at different intuition levels, ranging from direct commands like "can you drive faster" to indirect commands like "I am really in a hurry now". Additionally, we use the takeover rate to quantify the trust of human drivers in the LLM-based autonomous driving system, where Talk2Drive significantly reduces the takeover rate in highway, intersection, and parking scenarios. We also validate that the proposed memory module considers personalized preferences and further reduces the takeover rate by up to 65.2% compared with those without a memory module. Abstract

Purpose: The Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope is China's first X-ray astronomy satellite launched on June 15th, 2017, dubbed Insight-HXMT. Active and passive thermal control measures are employed to keep devices at suitable temperatures. In this paper, we analyzed the on-orbit thermal monitoring data of the first 5 years and investigated the effect of thermal deformation on the point spread function (PSF) of the telescopes. Methods: We examined the data of the on-orbit temperatures measured using 157 thermistors placed on the collimators, detectors and their support structures and compared the results with the thermal control requirements. The thermal deformation was evaluated by the relative orientation of the two star sensors installed on the main support structure. its effect was estimated with evolution of the PSF obtained with calibration scanning observations of the Crab nebula. Conclusion: The on-orbit temperatures met the thermal control requirements thus far, and the effect of thermal deformation on the PSF was negligible after the on-orbit pointing calibration., Comment: 25 pages, 35 figures, submitted

5. MaskDiffusion: Boosting Text-to-Image Consistency with Conditional Mask

Abstract

Recent advancements in diffusion models have showcased their impressive capacity to generate visually striking images. Nevertheless, ensuring a close match between the generated image and the given prompt remains a persistent challenge. In this work, we identify that a crucial factor leading to the text-image mismatch issue is the inadequate cross-modality relation learning between the prompt and the output image. To better align the prompt and image content, we advance the cross-attention with an adaptive mask, which is conditioned on the attention maps and the prompt embeddings, to dynamically adjust the contribution of each text token to the image features. This mechanism explicitly diminishes the ambiguity in semantic information embedding from the text encoder, leading to a boost of text-to-image consistency in the synthesized images. Our method, termed MaskDiffusion, is training-free and hot-pluggable for popular pre-trained diffusion models. When applied to the latent diffusion models, our MaskDiffusion can significantly improve the text-to-image consistency with negligible computation overhead compared to the original diffusion models.

6. SRFormerV2: Taking a Closer Look at Permuted Self-Attention for Image Super-Resolution

Abstract

Previous works have shown that increasing the window size for Transformer-based image super-resolution models (e.g., SwinIR) can significantly improve the model performance. Still, the computation overhead is also considerable when the window size gradually increases. In this paper, we present SRFormer, a simple but novel method that can enjoy the benefit of large window self-attention but introduces even less computational burden. The core of our SRFormer is the permuted self-attention (PSA), which strikes an appropriate balance between the channel and spatial information for self-attention. Without any bells and whistles, we show that our SRFormer achieves a 33.86dB PSNR score on the Urban100 dataset, which is 0.46dB higher than that of SwinIR but uses fewer parameters and computations. In addition, we also attempt to scale up the model by further enlarging the window size and channel numbers to explore the potential of Transformer-based models. Experiments show that our scaled model, named SRFormerV2, can further improve the results and achieves state-of-the-art. Abstract

The Medium Energy X-ray telescope (ME) is one of the three main telescopes on board the Insight Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope (Insight-HXMT) astronomy satellite. ME contains 1728 pixels of Si-PIN detectors sensitive in 5-30 keV with a total geometrical area of 952 cm2. Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) chips, VA32TA6, is used to achieve low power consumption and low readout noise. The collimators define three kinds of field of views (FOVs) for the telescope, 1{\deg}{\times}4{\deg}, 4{\deg}{\times}4{\deg}, and blocked ones. Combination of such FOVs can be used to estimate the in-orbit X-ray and particle background components. The energy resolution of ME is ~3 keV at 17.8 keV (FWHM) and the time resolution is 255 {\mu}s. Abstract

In this paper we present the enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry mission - eXTP. eXTP is a space science mission designed to study fundamental physics under extreme conditions of density, gravity and magnetism. The mission aims at determining the equation of state of matter at supra-nuclear density, measuring effects of QED, and understanding the dynamics of matter in strong-field gravity. In addition to investigating fundamental physics, eXTP will be a very powerful observatory for astrophysics that will provide observations of unprecedented quality on a variety of galactic and extragalactic objects. In particular, its wide field monitoring capabilities will be highly instrumental to detect the electro-magnetic counterparts of gravitational wave sources. Abstract

The eXTP (enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry) mission is a major project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and China National Space Administration (CNSA) currently performing an extended phase A study and proposed for a launch by 2025 in a low-earth orbit. The eXTP scientific payload envisages a suite of instruments (Spectroscopy Focusing Array, Polarimetry Focusing Array, Large Area Detector and Wide Field Monitor) offering unprecedented simultaneous wide-band X-ray spectral, timing and polarimetry sensitivity. A large European consortium is contributing to the eXTP study and it is expected to provide key hardware elements, including a Large Area Detector (LAD). The LAD instrument for eXTP is based on the design originally proposed for the LOFT mission within the ESA context. The eXTP/LAD envisages a deployed 3.4 m2 effective area in the 2-30 keV energy range, achieved through the technology of the large-area Silicon Drift Detectors - offering a spectral resolution of up to 200 eV FWHM at 6 keV - and of capillary plate collimators - limiting the field of view to about 1 degree. The aim of this study was to carry out a preclinical evaluation of these NPs in a middle-sized animal model (rabbits).Methods: New Zealand white rabbits were treated intravenously with Gd@BSA NPs (0.02 mmol Gd/kg) via a clinically-used high-pressure injector, with commercial Gd-diethylene triamine pentaacetate (Gd-DTPA)-injected group as control. Then MR angiography was performed according to the standard clinical protocol with a 3.0-T MR scanner. The SNR and CNR of the main arteries and branches were monitored. Pharmacokinetics and bioclearance were continuously evaluated in blood, urine, and feces. Gd deposition in vital organs was measured by ICP‒MS. Weight monitoring, HE staining, and blood biochemical analysis were also performed to comprehensively estimate systemic toxicity.Results: The ultrasmall Gd@BSA NPs (< 6 nm) exhibited high stability and T1 relaxivity. Compared to Gd-DTPA, Gd@BSA NPs demonstrated superior vascular system imaging performance at ultralow doses, especially of the cardiac artery and other main branches, and exhibited a significantly higher SNR and CNR. Notably, the Gd@BSA NPs showed a shorter half-life in blood, less retention in organs

Thanks to its very large collecting area, good spectral resolution and unprecedented polarimetry capabilities, eXTP will explore the properties of matter and the propagation of light in the most extreme conditions found in the Universe. eXTP will, in addition, be a powerful X-ray observatory. The mission will continuously monitor the X-ray sky, and will enable multiwavelength and multi-messenger studies. Abstract

The enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry mission (eXTP) is a flagship observatory for X-ray timing, spectroscopy and polarimetry developed by an International Consortium. Thanks to its very large collecting area, good spectral resolution and unprecedented polarimetry capabilities, eXTP will explore the properties of matter and the propagation of light in the most extreme conditions found in the Universe. eXTP will, in addition, be a powerful X-ray observatory. The mission will continuously monitor the X-ray sky, and will enable multiwavelength and multi-messenger studies. The mission is currently in phase B, which will be completed in the middle of 2022.

Abstract

This paper describes an investigation of the charring of wood exposed to a time-increasing heat flux and constant heat fluxes by using a modified partial differential equation (PDE) model, whose calculated result is validated by experimental result under time-increasing heat fluxes. It is assumed that the base of the char layer can be defined by the temperature of 300 °C. The results have shown that the rate of increase of heat flux and the density of woods significantly affect the charring rate and the charring rate of woods under time-increasing heat fluxes is smaller than that exposed to a constant heat flux. Linear regression conducted on the predictions of charring depth with time as the dependent time-increasing was suitable for time-increasing heat fluxes, while power regression was more suitable for constant heat flux. A successful experiential expression, which describing the relationship among char rate of woods and the increasing rate of heat fluxes and density of wood, has been suggested under time-increasing heat fluxes.

Abstract

A considerable amount of research has been conducted on the pyrolysis, ignition of wood under constant heat flux. However, the heat flux accepted by materials during the fire is increasing with time. This paper describes the theoretical and experimental investigation on pyrolysis and spontaneous ignition of wood exposed to heat fluxes linearly increasing with time. A one-dimensional model that describes the pyrolysis of wood subject to a linearly increasing heat flux is presented. Experiments are conducted for different wood species subjected to several increasing rates of heat fluxes. Some special characteristics of wood pyrolysis and spontaneous ignition have been proposed based on those investigations.

Abstract

The ignitability of solid combustibles by a radiation source has been investigated experimentally as a function of distance between the solid and the source, for heating with a uniform incident heat flux. Unlike piloted ignition, the critical incident heat flux for autoignition increases with the increase of radiant distance, which is a result that has not been reported before. It is found that the generation rate of combustible pyrolysis volatiles is a necessary but not sufficient condition for autoignition. By two dimensionless parameters, it is clearly indicated that the occurrence of autoignition needs both sufficient gas-phase temperature and sufficient concentration of combustible pyrolysis volatiles simultaneously, especially for the larger radiant heating distance condition which is also closer to realistic fire conditions.

Abstract

The Large Area Detector (LAD) is the high-throughput, spectral-timing instrument onboard the eXTP mission, a flagship mission of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the China National Space Administration, with a large European participation coordinated by Italy and Spain. The eXTP mission is currently performing its phase B study, with a target launch at the end-2027. The eXTP scientific payload includes four instruments (SFA, PFA, LAD and WFM) offering unprecedented simultaneous wide-band X-ray timing and polarimetry sensitivity. The LAD instrument is based on the design originally proposed for the LOFT mission. It envisages a deployed 3.2 m2 effective area in the 2-30 keV energy range, achieved through the technology of the large-area Silicon Drift Detectors - offering a spectral resolution of up to 200 eV FWHM at 6 keV - and of capillary plate collimators - limiting the field of view to about 1 degree. In this paper we will provide an overview of the LAD instrument design, its current status of development and anticipated performance.

Abstract

In this paper we present the enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry mission - eXTP. eXTP is a space science mission designed to study fundamental physics under extreme conditions of density, gravity and magnetism. The mission aims at determining the equation of state of matter at supra-nuclear density, measuring effects of QED, and understanding the dynamics of matter in strong-field gravity. In addition to investigating fundamental physics, eXTP will be a very powerful observatory for astrophysics that will provide observations of unprecedented quality on a variety of galactic and extragalactic objects. In particular, its wide field monitoring capabilities will be highly instrumental to detect the electro-magnetic counterparts of gravitational wave sources. The paper provides a detailed description of: (1) the technological and technical aspects, and the expected performance of the instruments of the scientific payload; (2) the elements and functions of the mission, from the spacecraft to the ground segment., Accepted for publication on Sci. 41. Cancer cell membrane-camouflaged biomimetic nanoparticles for enhancing chemo-radiation therapy efficacy in glioma.

Abstract

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) presents significant challenges in treatment, with current standard-of-care approaches offering limited efficacy and survival benefits. This necessitates the development of innovative therapeutic strategies to enhance treatment outcomes. Nanotechnology has emerged as a promising avenue in cancer therapy, offering targeted drug delivery and enhanced therapeutic efficacy. Polymeric nanoparticles, particularly those based on Poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA), have gained traction as drug carriers due to their biocompatibility and controlled release properties. However, their interception by macrophages poses challenges to effective drug delivery. Superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) nanoparticles have shown promise as radiosensitizers, enhancing the efficacy of radiotherapy through the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Moreover, cell membrane biomimetic drug delivery systems have garnered attention for their ability to improve biocompatibility and targeting capabilities. Leveraging these concepts, our study introduces a novel multifunctional platform, GM@P (T/S), comprising polymeric nanoparticles coated with cancer cell membrane. By encapsulating temozolomide (TMZ) and SPIO nanoparticles within GM@P (T/S), we aim to synergistically enhance the cytotoxic effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy against GBM while overcoming limitations associated with conventional treatments. This innovative approach holds promise for addressing the unmet clinical needs in GBM therapy and advancing towards more effective and personalized treatment strategies.

Abstract

Combinatorial auction is an important type of market mechanism, which can help bidders to bid on the combination of items more efficiently. The winner determination problem (WDP) is one of the most challenging research topics on the combinatorial auction, which has been proven to be NP-hard. It has more attention from researchers in recent years and has a wide range of real-world applications. To solve the winner determination problem effectively, this paper proposes a hybrid ant colony algorithm called DHS-ACO, which combines an effective local search for exploitation and an ant colony algorithm for exploration, with two effective strategies. One is a hash tabu search strategy adopted to reduce the cycling problem in the local search procedure. Another is a deep scoring strategy which is introduced to consider the profound effects of the local operators. The experimental results on a broad range of benchmarks show that DHS-ACO outperforms the existing algorithms.
