Abstract

Machine vision as an essential component of artificial intelligence poses a significant influence on dimension measurement, quality control, autonomous driving, and so on. In this study, a high-performance ultraviolet (UV) imaging and detection system enabled by Gallium Nitride (GaN) nanowire (NW) n-i-n photodetector (PD) is presented. Based on supreme optoelectronic properties of the NW, including high responsivity of 5098 A/W, a low dark current of 4.88 pA and a photo-to-dark current ratio of 1223, machine vision system composed of a GaN NW array could achieve an accuracy of 96.21%. Furthermore, feasibility of artificial neural network (ANN) and convolutional neural network (CNN) in such a machine vision system is discussed, featuring dim and noisy environment. The visualization process shows that the superiority of CNN over ANN in image recognition is attributed to the capability of extracting spatial information and characteristics. The research results provide important insight into the development of both sensors and algorithms for machine vision systems based on GaN NW PD, inspiring further investigation into UV image detection and other areas of artificial intelligence.

13. Life's Essential 8, Life's Simple 7 and the odds of hyperuricaemia: results from the China Multi-Ethnic Cohort Study.

Abstract

Objective Life's Essential 8 (LE8) is a new comprehensive metric based on Life's Simple 7 (LS7). Few studies have investigated the association between LE8 and the odds of hyperuricaemia (HUA). This study examined the association between LE8, LS7 with odds of HUA. Methods We cross-sectionally analysed data from the China Multi-Ethnic Cohort (CMEC) study. LE8 and LS7 were categorized as low, moderate and high. The CMEC provided an ideal and unique opportunity to characterize the association between LE8, LS7 and the odds of HUA. Results Of the 89 823 participants, 14 562 (16.2%) had HUA. A high level of LE8 was associated with lower odds of HUA after full adjustment. The adjusted odds ratios (ORs) were 1 (reference), 0.70 (95% CI 0.67, 0.73) and 0.45 (0.42, 0.48) across low, moderate and high LE8 groups, respectively (P trend < 0.001). Similar results were observed in LS7 and HUA. The adjusted ORs were 1 (reference), 0.68 (95% CI 0.65, 0.71) and 0.46 (95% CI 0.43, 0.49) across low, moderate and high LS7 groups, respectively (P trend < 0.001). There were significant interactions between LE8 and age, gender, ethnicity and drinking habits on HUA. Receiver operating characteristics analysis showed that the area under the curve for LE8 and LS7 were similar (0.638 and 0.635, respectively). Conclusion This study indicated a clearly inverse gradient association between the cardiovascular health metrics LE8 and LS7 and the odds of HUA. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

36. Association between daytime napping and obesity in Chinese middle-aged and older adults.

Abstract

Background: No studies have assessed the association between daytime napping and obesity in China. The study aimed to examine the association between daytime napping and obesity among Chinese middle-aged and older adults, and to evaluate the difference between the aforementioned association in men and women.Methods: Overall, 14 685 participants aged 45 years and older were included by using data from China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) in 2015. A multivariable logistic regression model was used to investigate the relationship between daytime napping and obesity after adjusting for potential confounders. Stratified analyses were performed to examine the association differences by sex. Besides, the Cochran-Armitage test for trend was used to detect if there was a significant dose-response relationship between daytime napping and obesity.Results: The mean age of participants was 60.32, and the mean daytime napping duration was 38.97 minutes. In the sample, compared with no daytime napping group, the risks of being obese were higher in both moderate daytime napping group (1-60 minute/d) (odds ratio OR = 1.27, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.13-1.44) and extend long daytime napping group (>60 minute/d) (OR = 1.34, 95% CI = 1.15-1.56). In sex stratification, these significant correlations only existed in women but not in men. Compared with no daytime napping, women who napped 1-60 minute/d and over 60 minute/d were more likely to be obese (OR = 1.37, 95% CI = 1.18-1.59 and OR = 1.49, 95% CI = 1.23-1.81, respectively). Besides, the Cochran-Armitage trend test revealed that the prevalence rate of obesity increased as the daytime napping duration increased (P < 0.001).Conclusions: The study established the relationship between daytime napping and obesity in a general Chinese population. The association, however, was only detected among women. Furthermore, there was a dose-response relationship between daytime napping and obesity among women. Abstract

Background: Previous studies have suggested that food preference is a good indicator of actual food intake and that sedentary activity preference is a significant predictor of lower physical activity level. But no studies have examined the direct relationship between leisure time physical activity (LTPA) preferences and actual LTPA behavior, especially studies using longitudinal data. This study seeks to determine the association between these two variables, and to assess whether the association differs between urban and rural areas in China.Methods: A total of 2427 Chinese adults were included in the analysis. Spearman correlation coefficients were used to test the association between leisure time physical activity preference and behavior, followed by multiple logistic regressions to further examine the association after adjusting for possible confounding variables. Urban-rural differences in the association were investigated through stratified analysis.Results: In the sample, 63.0% were from urban areas, 47.4% were men, and the mean age was 40. Adjusted estimates based on logistic regression show that LTPA preference was a significant predictor of actual LTPA behavior (OR = 1.05, 95% CI = 1.01-1.09). The correlation was found to be significant among urban residents (OR = 1.06, 95% CI = 1.01-1.10), but not in rural residents.Conclusions: The study illustrates the predictive value of LTPA preference for actual LTPA behavior. Abstract

Large granular lymphocyte (LGL) leukemia, or LGLL, is characterized by increased numbers of circulating clonal LGL cells in association with neutropenia, anemia, rheumatoid arthritis, and pulmonary artery hypertension (PAH). Emerging evidence suggests that LGLL cells with a CD8+CD28nullphenotype induce these clinical manifestations through direct destruction of normal tissue. Compared with CD8+CD28nullT cells from healthy controls, CD8+CD28nullT cells from LGLL patients have acquired the ability to directly lyse pulmonary artery endothelial cells and human synovial cells. Here, we show that LGLL cells from patients possess enhanced cytotoxic characteristics and express elevated levels of activating natural killer receptors as well as their signaling partners, DAP10 and DAP12. Moreover, downstream targets of DAP10 and DAP12 are constitutively activated in LGLL cells, and expression of dominant-negative DAP10 and DAP12 dramatically reduces their lytic capacity. These are the first results to show that activating NKR-ligand interactions play a critical role in initiating the DAP10 and DAP12 signaling events that lead to enhanced lytic potential of LGLL cells. Results shown suggest that inhibitors of DAP10 and DAP12 or other proteins involved in this signaling pathway will be attractive therapeutic targets for the treatment of LGLL and other autoimmune diseases and syndromes.
