ZnSe photocatalytic films made of $$ \left\{ {000 1} \right\} $$ -ended microdisks and $$ \left\{ {2\overline{1} \overline{1} 0} \right\} $$ -ended nanobelts have been successfully synthesized via a solvothermal route followed by annealing in Ar atmosphere. Zn foils are used as both the Zn source and the substrate, Se powder as the Se source, and ethylenediamine (en) as the solvent. Lower temperature and Se concentration prefers the formation of $$ \left\{ {000 1} \right\} $$ -faceted ZnSe microdisks, while higher temperature and Se concentration leads to the formation of $$ \left\{ {2\overline{1} \overline{1} 0} \right\} $$ -faceted ZnSe nanobelts. Photoluminescence spectra show that both samples exhibit a visible-light emission, and ZnSe microdisks have more defects than ZnSe nanobelts. ZnSe microdisks have a superior photocatalytic activity over ZnSe nanobelts in the degradation of rhodamine B under visible light. The higher photocatalytic activity of ZnSe microdisks is attributed to larger amount of $$ \left\{ {000 1} \right\} $$ facets and defects in the ZnSe microdisks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: The coupling reaction of CO2 and propylene oxide or ethylene oxide to produce corresponding cyclic carbonate in the presence of a catalytic system composed of n-Bu4NBr, α2-(n-Bu4N)9P2W17O61(Co2+ ·Br) (abbreviated as P2W17Co) and PEG (MW 400) has been investigated. The experimental results indicated that the synthesis of propylene carbonate (PC) or ethylene carbonate (EC) achieved with over 98% yield and 100% selectivity within 1h at 120°C by using the above catalyst system. When the catalyst system was recycled, the catalytic activity slowly diminished. Moreover, a plausible mechanism was proposed. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The Fe x Pt100−x nanoparticles (NPs) with different nominal atomic rations (30≤x≤80) were synthesized at 700°C by the sol–gel method. The structure, morphology and magnetic properties of the samples were investigated. When the Fe content in the Fe–Pt alloy NPs was 30at%, FePt3 NPs were successfully synthesized. With the increase in Fe content up to 50at%, it was found that the superlattice reflections (001) and (110) appeared, which indicated the formation of the L10-FePt phase. Meanwhile, the FePt3 fraction was reduced. When the Fe content increased to 60at%, single-phase L10-FePt NPs were synthesized. The coercivity (Hc), saturation magnetization (Ms) and chemical order parameter S for Fe60Pt40 NPs were as high as 10,200Oe, 17.567emu/g and 0.928, respectively. With the further increase of the Fe content to 80at%, only Fe3Pt phase existed and the Hc of the Fe3Pt NPs decreased drastically to 360Oe. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The Sol-gel method is successfully used to prepare high specific surface area TiO 2 (HSTiO 2 ). Then, the photodeposition method is used to composite silver particles with HSTiO 2 . X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller, and UV-vis spectroscopy are used to characterize the Ag/HSTiO 2 nanocomposites. It can be concluded that the prepared TiO 2 has a large specific surface area, reaching 125.5 m 2 g -1 . Additionally, the addition of silver particles successfully broadens the photoresponse range from the UV region to the visible light region. In order to evaluate the photocatalytic activity of Ag/HSTiO 2 , we conducted the methyl orange degradation test. Dumbbell Ag 2 CO 3 -ZnO heterojunctions were synthesized for the first time via a simple in situ precipitation method. The as-prepared Ag 2 CO 3 -ZnO heterojunction showed high photocatalytic activity in the decomposition of methyl orange aqueous solution under simulated solar irradiation. The high improvement of photocatalytic activity compared to that of pure ZnO can be attributed to the formation of the Ag 2 CO 3 -ZnO heterojunction. Furthermore, the mechanism of photocatalytic activity was investigated in detail. The free radical trapping experiments indicated that the superoxide radical (·O 2 - ) was an important active species in the photocatalytic process. Highly dispersed ZnO/g-C 3 N 4 composites with different doping ratios of g-C 3 N 4 were prepared by a hydrothermal method. The preparation method is simple and the energy consumption is low. The composite samples were used to degradate the methyl orange solution. They all showed excellent photocatalytic activity and cycling stability. The optimal loading content of g-C 3 N 4 was investigated, and the mechanism of enhanced photocatalytic activity was studied in detail.
