Abstract Transition metal compounds with kagome structure have been found to exhibit a variety of exotic structural, electronic, and magnetic orders. These orders are competing with energies very close to each other, resulting in complex phase transitions. Some of the phases are easily observable, such as the charge density wave (CDW) and the superconducting phase, while others are more challenging to identify and characterize. Here we present magneto-transport evidence of a new phase below ~ 35 K in the kagome topological metal CsV3Sb5 (CVS) thin flakes between the CDW and the superconducting transition temperatures. This phase is characterized by six-fold rotational symmetry in the in-plane magnetoresistance (MR) and is connected to the orbital current order in CVS. Furthermore, the phase is characterized by a large in-plane negative magnetoresistance, which suggests the existence of a three-dimensional, magnetic field-tunable orbital current ordered phase. Our results highlight the potential of magneto-transport to reveal the interactions between exotic quantum states of matter and to uncover the symmetry of such hidden phases.

Abstract Applying lattice strain to thin films, a critical factor to tailor their properties such as stabilizing a structural phase unstable at ambient pressure, generally necessitates heteroepitaxial growth to control the lattice mismatch with substrate. Therefore, while homoepitaxy, the growth of thin film on a substrate made of the same material, is a useful method to fabricate high‐quality thin films, its application to studying strain‐induced structural phases is limited. Contrary to this general belief, here the quasi‐homoepitaxial growth of Cs and Rb thin films is reported with substantial in‐plane compressive strain. This is achieved by utilizing the alkali‐metal layer existing in bulk crystal of kagome metals AV3Sb5 (A = Cs and Rb) as a structural template. The angle‐resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements reveal the formation of metallic quantum well states and notable thickness‐dependent quasiparticle lifetime. Comparison with density functional theory calculations suggests that the obtained thin films crystalize in the face‐centered cubic structure, which is typically stable only under high pressure in bulk crystals. These findings provide a useful approach for synthesizing highly strained thin films by quasi‐homoepitaxy, and pave the way for investigating many‐body interactions in Fermi liquids with tunable dimensionality.

Abstract Kagome superconductors AV3Sb5 (A = K, Rb, and Cs) have attracted enormous interest due to the coexistence of charge density wave (CDW) order, unconventional superconductivity (SC) and anomalous Hall effect (AHE). In this paper, we reported an intensive investigation on Cs(V1−x Ta x )3Sb5 single crystals with systematic Ta doping. Ta was confirmed to be doped into V-site in the Kagome layer from both single crystal X-ray diffraction structural refinement and scanning transmission electron microscopy observation. The highest Ta doping level was found to be about 16%, which is more than twice as much as 7% in Nb-doped CsV3Sb5. With the increase of Ta doping, CDW order was gradually suppressed and finally vanished when the doping level reached to more than 8%. Meanwhile, superconductivity was enhanced with a maximum critical temperature (Tc) of 5.3 K, which is the highest Tc in the bulk crystal of this Kagome system at ambient pressure so far. The μ 0 H c2(T) behavior demonstrates that the system is still a two-band superconductor after Ta doping. Based on the electrical transport measurement, a phase diagram was set up to exhibit the evolution of CDW and SC in the Cs(V1−x Ta x )3Sb5 system. These findings pave a new way to search for new superconductors with higher Tc in the AV3Sb5 family and establish a new platform for tuning and controlling the multiple orders and superconducting states.

Abstract Superconductivity is caused by electron pairs that are canonically isotropic, whereas some exotic superconductors are known to exhibit non-trivial anisotropy stemming from unconventional pairings. However, superconductors with hexagonal symmetry, the highest rotational symmetry allowed in crystals, exceptionally have strong constraint that is called emergent rotational symmetry (ERS): anisotropic properties should be very weak especially near the critical temperature T c even for unconventional pairings such as d-wave states. Here, we investigate superconducting anisotropy of the recently-found hexagonal Kagome superconductor CsV3Sb5, which is known to exhibit various intriguing phenomena originating from its undistorted Kagome lattice formed by vanadium atoms. Based on calorimetry performed under accurate two-axis field-direction control, we discover a combination of six- and two-fold anisotropies in the in-plane upper critical field. Both anisotropies, robust up to very close to T c, are beyond predictions of standard theories. We infer that this clear ERS violation with nematicity is best explained by multi-component nematic superconducting order parameter in CsV3Sb5 intertwined with symmetry breakings caused by the underlying charge-density-wave order.

Abstract Layered SnAs‐based Zintl compounds exhibit a distinctive electronic structure, igniting extensive research efforts in areas of superconductivity, topological insulators, and quantum magnetism. In this paper, the crystal structures and electronic properties of the Zintl compound SrSn2As2 upon compression are systematically investigated. Pressure‐induced superconductivity is observed in SrSn2As2 with a nonmonotonic evolution of superconducting transition temperature Tc. Theoretical calculations together with high‐pressure synchrotron X‐ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy have identified that SrSn2As2 undergoes a structural transformation from a rhombohedral R3¯m phase to the monoclinic C2/m phase. Beyond 28.3 GPa, Tc is suppressed due to a reduction of the density of state (DOS) at the Fermi level. The discovery of pressure‐induced superconductivity, accompanied by structural transitions in SrSn2As2, greatly expands the physical properties of layered SnAs‐based compounds and provides new ground states upon compression.

Abstract Curved displays can adjust their shape to accommodate different objects and are used in electronics and decorative lighting. Due to the immutable pixel spacing, existing commercial curved displays are flexible but not compatible with undevelopable surfaces. Inspired by kirigami and auxetic structures, we propose an approach that combines luminescent elements and rotating square tessellations to create a stretchable, arbitrary curve adaptive display. We connect square islands by vertical interconnects to relieve the stress concentration and provide extra deformation patterns. The vertical interconnects are patterned on a flexible printed circuit board (FPCB) using laser cutting and folded up via specially designed molds. Further, the freed-up space by folded interconnects allows the structure to be compressed. A prototype stretchable display is demonstrated that it can maintain electrical performance under biaxial strain and adapt to different Gaussian curvature surfaces, including cylindrical, spherical, saddle and arbitrary surfaces. Theoretical models and finite element calculations are established to describe the tensile behavior of the structures under different boundary conditions and agree with the experimental results. This proposed technology paves a feasible solution of mass production of adaptive curved displays and sets the trend for the next-generation display.

Kagome metals are interesting for the coexistence of chiral charge density wave and superconductivity. Here, the structural distortion responsible for the charge density wave in KV3Sb5 is investigated by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and first-principles calculations, providing microscopic insight into the charge density wave and superconducting mechanisms.

Background: To construct and validate a simple and easily administered scoring tool for the prediction of short-term prognostic survival in adult patients with sepsis. Methods: This study is a retrospective and prospective cohort study. A total of 382 patients with sepsis. 274 sepsis patients from January 2020 to December 2020 were collected as the modeling group and 54 sepsis patients from January 2021 to December 2021 and April to May 2022 in the hospital were randomly collected as the validation group. They were divided into survival and non-survival groups according to the outcome. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were plotted with subgroup analysis. The resulting models were tested using the Hosmer-Lemeshow test. The prognostic value of the variables on prognosis was expressed using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). Abstract Curved displays have recently become very popular, with wide applications for both industry and consumers. However, built upon initially flat films, most flexible displays are often incompatible with general nondevelopable surfaces. In this paper, we report a method for producing curved displays of nondevelopable shapes by using a structure-mechanics-inspired functional optimization method to design tessellation patterns that fold into the desired shapes. Representative displays in spherical and saddle shapes are demonstrated. The microfabrication process is employed for manufacturing 2D flexible foldable circuit boards, pick-and-place technology is used for placing illuminant elements onto the boards, and mold guidance is used for folding 2-D sheets into curved 3D display prototypes. The proposed technology is feasible for mass production and advances the application of next-generation curved displays.

The recently discovered class of kagome metals AV3Sb5, where A stands for K, Rb, Cs, has been shown to host a variety of exotic phases. Here, the authors report the two-fold rotational symmetry of superconductivity and signatures of an in-plane nematic electronic state in CsV3Sb5 under in-plane magnetic field.

Background: Androgen insensitivity syndrome (AIS) is an X-linked recessive hereditary disease caused due to a reduced or absent function of the androgen receptor (AR) protein encoded by the AR gene (OMIM-Gene# 313,700). Genetic testing is important in the diagnosis, clinical management, and prevention of AIS (MIM# 300,068). The AR (HGNC: 644) pathogenic variant detection rate ranges from 65% to 95% for patients with complete AIS (CAIS) and 40%–45% for patients with partial androgen insensitivity syndrome (PAIS). Identification of a pathogenic mutation in the AR confirms the diagnosis of AIS, especially in the milder forms that may have a phenotypic overlap with other disorders of sex development. Improvement of the molecular diagnostic rate of AIS is urgently required in clinical practice. We reported the results of the molecular diagnosis of a patient with CAIS who failed previously in either the traditional Sanger sequencing or next-generation sequencing (NGS). Using whole-exome sequencing (WES) combined with a special polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and deep sequencing, we successfully identified a pathogenic variant, a hemizygous mutation (c.1395-1396insGA), in the GC-enriched and unstable GCC repeat regions of the AR gene of the proband.Conclusion: The results may be advantageous for the improvement of the detection rate of AIS, as well as other inherited disorders whose disease-causing genes contain GC-enriched and unstable GCC repeat regions.

IntroductionDouble sequential external defibrillation (DSED) in cardiopulmonary resuscitation has shown different results in comparison with standard defibrillation in the treatment of refractory ventricular fibrillation (RVF). This review aims to compare the advantages of DSED with standard defibrillation in the treatment of refractory ventricular fibrillation.Materials and methodsPubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library were searched from inception to May 1, 2022. Studies included adult patients who developed RVF. The study used random-effects and fixed-effects models for meta-analysis, which was reported by risk ratio (RR) with 95% confidence interval (CI), mean difference (MD), or standardized mean difference (SMD). The risk of bias in individual studies was assessed using the Robins-I tool for observational studies and the Cochrane Risk of Bias 2 (ROB-2) tool for clinical trials. Primary outcomes included the termination of RVF, prehospital return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC), survival to hospital admission, survival to hospital discharge, and good neurological recovery. Secondary outcomes included age, total defibrillation attempts, emergency medical system arrival time, and dose of epinephrine and amiodarone used.ResultsIn this systematic review and meta-analysis, 10 studies containing 1347 patients with available data on treatment outcomes were included. The pooled estimate was (RR 1.03, 95% CI, 0.89 to 1.19; Z = 0.42, P = 0.678 > 0.05) for Termination of RVF, (RR 0.84, 95% CI, 0.63 to 1.11; Z = 1.23, P = 0.219 > 0.05) for ROSC, (RR 0.86, 95% CI, 0.69 to 1.06; Z = 1.4, P = 0.162 > 0.05) for survival to hospital admission, (RR 0.77, 95%CI, 0.52 to 1.15; Z = 1.26, P = 0.206 > 0.05) for survival to hospital discharge, (RR 0.65, 95%CI, 0.35 to 1.22; Z = 1.33, P = 0.184 > 0.05) for good neurologic recovery, (MD −1.01, 95%CI, −3.07 to 1.06; Z = 0.96, P = 0.34 > 0.05) for age, (MD 2.27, 95%CI, 1.80 to 2.73; Z = 9.50, P = 0.001 < 0.05) for total defibrillation attempts, (MD 1.10, 95%CI, −0.45 to 66; Z = 1.39, P = 0.16 > 0.05) for emergency medical system arrival time, (SMD 0.34, 95%CI, 0.17 to 0.50; Z = 4.04, P = 0.001 < 0.05) for epinephrine, and (SMD −0.30, 95%CI, −0.65 to −0.05; Z = 1.66, P = 0.1 > 0.05) for amiodarone.ConclusionWe discovered no differences between DSED and standard defibrillation in termination of RVF, prehospital return of spontaneous circulation, survival to hospital admission, survival to hospital discharge, good neurological outcome, emergency medical system arrival time, and amiodarone doses in patients with RVF. ObjectiveNew-onset atrial fibrillation (NOAF) is a common complication and one of the primary causes of increased mortality in critically ill adults. Since early assessment of the risk of developing NOAF is difficult, it is critical to establish predictive tools to identify the risk of NOAF.MethodsWe retrospectively enrolled 1,568 septic patients treated at Wuhan Union Hospital (Wuhan, China) as a training cohort. For external validation of the model, 924 patients with sepsis were recruited as a validation cohort at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University (Urumqi, China). Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to screen predictors. The area under the ROC curve (AUC), calibration curve, and decision curve were used to assess the value of the predictive model in NOAF.ResultsA total of 2,492 patients with sepsis (1,592 (63.88%) male; mean [SD] age, 59.47 [16.42] years) were enrolled in this study. Age (OR: 1.022, 1.009–1.035), international normalized ratio (OR: 1.837, 1.270–2.656), fibrinogen (OR: 1.535, 1.232–1.914), C-reaction protein (OR: 1.011, 1.008–1.014), sequential organ failure assessment score (OR: 1.306, 1.247–1.368), congestive heart failure (OR: 1.714, 1.126–2.608), and dopamine use (OR: 1.876, 1.227–2.874) were used as risk variables to develop the nomogram model. The AUCs of the nomogram model were 0.861 (95% CI, 0.830–0.892) and 0.845 (95% CI, 0.804–0.886) in the internal and external validation, respectively. The clinical prediction model showed excellent calibration and higher net clinical benefit. Moreover, the predictive performance of the model correlated with the severity of sepsis, with higher predictive performance for patients in septic shock than for other patients.ConclusionThe nomogram model can be used as a reliable and simple predictive tool for the early identification of NOAF in patients with sepsis, which will provide practical information for individualized treatment decisions.

Abstract Origami, an ancient form of papercraft, provides a way to develop functional structures for engineering applications. In this paper, we report an approach to design and manufacture a stretchable circuit board (SCB) with origami structures. The benefits of developable, flat-foldable, and rigid-foldable origami-based structures as SCBs are discussed, and a representative structure, Miura fold (or Miura-ori), is chosen to be investigated. Under the constraints induced by the mounted components’ dimensions, the Miura-ori structures for specific applications can be defined. We propose three methods for better fabrication, including direct folding, stiffness modification, and kirigami enhancement, to improve a planar sheet’s foldability. A wearable ECG (electrocardiogram) system based on MO-SCB (Miura-ori enabled SCB) technology is built, and the stretchable portion is made of commercial FPCBs (flexible printed circuit board), providing desired stretchability and reliability. The proposed technology routine is compatible with industrial production and may pave the application of stretchable electronics.

Drowsiness poses a serious challenge to road safety and various in-cabin sensing technologies have been experimented with to monitor driver alertness. Cameras offer a convenient means for contactless sensing, but they may violate user privacy and require complex algorithms to accommodate user (e.g., sunglasses) and environmental (e.g., lighting conditions) constraints. This paper presents a lightweight convolution neural network that measures eye closure based on eye images captured by a wearable glass prototype, which features a hot mirror-based design that allows the camera to be installed on the glass temples. The experimental results showed that the wearable glass prototype, with the neural network in its core, was highly effective in detecting eye blinks. The blink rate derived from the glass output was highly consistent with an industrial gold standard EyeLink eye-tracker. As eye blink characteristics are sensitive measures of driver drowsiness, the glass prototype and the lightweight neural network presented in this paper would provide a computationally efficient yet viable solution for real-world applications.

Abstract Background Myxobacteria are micropredators in the soil ecosystem with the capacity to move and feed cooperatively. Some myxobacterial strains have been used to control soil-borne fungal phytopathogens. However, interactions among myxobacteria, plant pathogens, and the soil microbiome are largely unexplored. In this study, we aimed to investigate the behaviors of the myxobacterium Corallococcus sp. strain EGB in the soil and its effect on the soil microbiome after inoculation for controlling cucumber Fusarium wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cucumerinum (FOC). Results A greenhouse and a 2-year field experiment demonstrated that the solid-state fermented strain EGB significantly reduced the cucumber Fusarium wilt by 79.6% (greenhouse), 66.0% (2015, field), and 53.9% (2016, field). Strain EGB adapted to the soil environment well and decreased the abundance of soil-borne FOC efficiently. Spatiotemporal analysis of the soil microbial community showed that strain EGB migrated towards the roots and root exudates of the cucumber plants via chemotaxis. Cooccurrence network analysis of the soil microbiome indicated a decreased modularity and community number but an increased connection number per node after the application of strain EGB. Several predatory bacteria, such as Lysobacter, Microvirga, and Cupriavidus, appearing as hubs or indicators, showed intensive connections with other bacteria. Conclusion The predatory myxobacterium Corallococcus sp. strain EGB controlled cucumber Fusarium wilt by migrating to the plant root and regulating the soil microbial community. This strain has the potential to be developed as a novel biological control agent of soil-borne Fusarium wilt. Video abstract.

This paper proposes a 16-bit 6-channel high-voltage successive approximation register (SAR) ADC with an optimized 5 + 5 + 6 segmented capacitor array. The lower 10 bits of the capacitor array are all composed of unit capacitors without any calibration unit. Without calibration, the lower 10 bits of the capacitor array can ensure 10-bit conversion accuracy. Every of the upper 6 bits of the capacitor array contains a linearity calibration unit. The linearity error of the upper 6 bits is calibrated by the linearity calibration unit. The 16-bit is manufactured by a $0.6~\mu m$ standard COMS process, and the total chip area of 6-channel ADC including pads is 6.6mm $\times6.6$ mm. As for single channel SAR ADC, the area is 0.9mm $\times2.0$ mm. The measurement results show that the effective conversion accuracy of the SAR ADC reaches 13 bits by using novel differential nonlinearity (DNL) and integral nonlinearity (INL) calibration methods. The power is 80mW, corresponding to a Figure of Merit (FOM) of 48 pJ/conv.-step.

Aspergillus oryzae is widely used in industrial applications, which always encounter changes within multiple environmental conditions during fermentation, such as temperature stress. However, the molecular mechanisms by which A. oryzae protects against temperature stress have not been elucidated. Therefore, this study aimed to characterize the fermentative behavior, transcriptomic profiles, and metabolic changes of A. oryzae in response to temperature stress. Both low and high temperatures inhibited mycelial growth and conidial formation of A. oryzae. Transcriptomic analysis revealed that most differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were involved in sugar metabolism and lipid metabolism under temperature stress. Specifically, the DEGs in trehalose synthesis and starch metabolism were upregulated under low-temperature stress, while high temperatures inhibited the expression of genes involved in fructose, galactose, and glucose metabolism. Quantitative analysis of intracellular sugar further revealed that low temperature increased trehalose accumulation, while high temperature increased the contents of intracellular trehalose, galactose, and glucose, consistent with transcriptome analysis. In addition, most DEGs involved in lipid metabolism were significantly downregulated under low-temperature stress. Furthermore, the metabolomic analysis revealed that linoleic acid, triacylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, and phosphoribosyl were significantly decreased in response to low-temperature stress. These results increase our understanding of the coping mechanisms of A. oryzae in response to temperature stress, which lays the foundation for future improvements through genetic modification to enhance A. oryzae against extreme temperature stress.

Water flooding type-curves, recently receiving increasing attentions, play an essential role in evaluation of OOIP and prediction of future production. The study proposed a method modified form Weibull model and water flooding type-curves to analyze the reservoir production performance, including predication of oil production and water injection rates. The results indicate that the method can estimate and provide solutions for oil production, water injection rate and injection-production ratio with a well accuracy. A case study is conducted to demonstrate the applicability and accuracy of model by field data. The matching results illustrate a good accordance between calculated values and field data. WHM materials (W = Zr/Hf, H = Si/Ge/Sn, M = S/Se/Te) represent a large family of topological semimetals, which have attracted intensive interest since they are considered to be good candidates for studying various topological states. Here, we report the crystal growth, characterization, and electronic properties of HfSiS, ZrGeS, and ZrGeSe. All samples were prepared by a chemical vapor transport method with I2 as a transport agent, and the growth conditions were optimized. X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements showed that the as-grown crystals crystallized in a PbFCl-type layered structure. They all showed metallic behavior from temperature-dependent resistivity measurements and the carrier densities were estimated to be in the order of 1021 cm−3. A large magnetoresistance of up to 1200% and an obvious Shubnikov–de Hass (SdH) oscillation were observed for HfSiS.

Kagome metals AV_{3}Sb_{5} (A=K, Rb, and Cs) exhibit a unique superconducting ground state coexisting with charge-density wave (CDW), whereas how these characteristics are affected by carrier doping remains unexplored because of the lack of an efficient carrier-doping method. Here we report successful electron doping to CsV_{3}Sb_{5} by Cs dosing, as visualized by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. We found that the electron doping with Cs dosing proceeds in an orbital-selective way, as characterized by a marked increase in electron filling of the Sb 5p_{z} and V 3d_{xz/yz} bands as opposed to the relatively insensitive nature of the V 3d_{xy/x^{2}-y^{2}} bands. By monitoring the temperature evolution of the CDW gap around the M[over ¯] point, we found that the CDW can be completely killed by Cs dosing while keeping the saddle point with the V 3d_{xy/x^{2}-y^{2}} character almost pinned at the Fermi level. The present result suggests a crucial role of multiorbital effect to the occurrence of CDW and provides an important step toward manipulating the CDW and superconductivity in AV_{3}Sb_{5}.

In this work, a new crystal growth technique called the liquid transport method was introduced to synthesize single crystals of a topological superconductor candidate, InxSn1−xTe (IST). Crystals with the size of several millimeters were successfully synthesized, and were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive spectroscopy as well as electronic transport measurements. Lattice parameters decreased monotonously with the increase of indium content while hole density varied in reverse. Superconductivity with the critical temperature (Tc) around 1.6 K were observed, and the hole densities were estimated to be in the order of 1020 cm−3. The upper critical fields (Bc2) were estimated to be 0.68 T and 0.71 T for In0.04Sn0.96Te and In0.06Sn0.94Te, respectively. The results indicated that the quality of our crystals is comparable to that grown by the chemical vapor transport method, but with a relatively larger size. Our work provides a new method to grow large single crystals of IST and could help to solve the remaining open questions in a system that needs large crystals, such as a superconducting pairing mechanism, unconventional superconductivity, and so on.

We have performed angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy on EuIn_{2}As_{2} which is predicted to be an axion insulator in the antiferromagnetic state. By utilizing soft-x-ray and vacuum-ultraviolet photons, we revealed a three-dimensional hole pocket centered at the Γ point of the bulk Brillouin zone together with a heavily hole-doped surface state in the paramagnetic phase. Upon entering the antiferromagnetic phase, the band structure exhibits a marked reconstruction characterized by the emergence of an “M”-shaped bulk band near the Fermi level. The qualitative agreement with first-principles band-structure calculations suggests the occurrence of bulk-band inversion at the Γ point in the antiferromagnetic phase. We suggest that EuIn_{2}As_{2} provides a good opportunity to study the exotic quantum phases associated with a possible axion-insulator phase.

This paper presents a new method of injection-production allocation estimation for water-flooding mature oilfields. The suggested approach is based on logistic growth rate functions and several type-curve matching methods. Using the relationship between these equations, oil production and water injection rate as well as injection-production ratio can be easily forecasted. The calculation procedure developed and outlined in this paper requires very few production data and is easily implemented. Furthermore, an oilfield case has been analyzed. The synthetic and field cases validate the calculation procedure, so it can be accurately used in forecasting production data, and it is important to optimize the whole injection-production system.

Mevalonate diphosphate decarboxylase MVD/Erg19 is required for ergosterol biosynthesis, growth, sporulation, and stress tolerance in Aspergillus oryzae. In this study, RNA-seq was used to analyze the gene transcription profile in AoErg19 overexpression (OE) and RNAi strains. There were 256 and 74 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in AoErg19 OE and RNAi strains, respectively, compared with the control strain (CK). The most common DEGs were transport- and metabolism-related genes. Only 22 DEGs were obtained that were regulated in both OE and RNAi strains. The transcriptomic comparison between CK and AoErg19 overexpression strain (CK vs. OE), and between CK and AoErg19 RNAi strain (CK vs. RNAi) revealed that the greatest difference existed in the number of genes belonging to the cytochrome P450 family; 12 were found in CK vs. OE, whereas 1 was found in CK vs. RNAi. The expression patterns of lipid biosynthesis and metabolism related genes were altered in OE and RNAi strains, either by gene induction or suppression. Moreover, the total fatty acid content in the RNAi strain was 12.1% greater than the control strain, but no difference in total acid content was found between the overexpression strain and the control strain. Therefore, this study highlights the gene expression regulation within mevalonate (MVA), ergosterol biosynthesis, and fatty acid biosynthesis pathways.

The koji mold Aspergillus oryzae is widely adopted for producing rice wine, wherein koji mold saccharifies rice starch and sake yeast ferments glucose to ethanol. During rice wine brewing, the accumulating ethanol becomes a major source of stress for A. oryzae, and there is a decline in hydrolysis efficiency. However, the protective mechanisms of A. oryzae against ethanol stress are poorly understood. In the present study, we demonstrate that ethanol adversity caused a significant inhibition of mycelium growth and conidia formation in A. oryzae, and this suppressive effect increased with ethanol concentration. Transmission electron microscopy analysis revealed that ethanol uptake triggered internal cellular perturbations, such as irregular nuclei and the aggregation of scattered vacuoles in A. oryzae cells. Metabolic analysis uncovered an increase in fatty acid unsaturation under high ethanol conditions, in which a large proportion of stearic acid was converted into linoleic acid, and the expression of related fatty acid desaturases was activated. Our results therefore improve the understanding of ethanol adaptation mechanisms in A. oryzae and offer target genes for ethanol tolerance enhancement via genetic engineering.

Aspergillus oryzae has been used for the production of traditional fermentation and has promising potential to produce primary and secondary metabolites. Due to the tough cell walls and high drug resistance of A. oryzae, functional genomic characterization studies are relatively limited. The exploitation of selection markers and genetic transformation methods are critical for improving A. oryzae fermentative strains. In this review, we describe the genome sequencing of various A. oryzae strains. Recently developed selection markers and transformation strategies are also described in detail, and the advantages and disadvantages of transformation methods are presented. Lastly, we introduce the recent progress on highlighted topics in A. oryzae functional genomics including conidiation, protein secretion and expression, and secondary metabolites, which will be beneficial for improving the application of A. oryzae to industrial production.

Many miraculous ideas have been proposed to deal with the privacy-preserving time-series data aggregation problem in pervasive computing applications, such as mobile cloud computing. The main challenge consists in computing the global statistics of individual inputs that are protected by some confidentiality mechanism. However, those works either suffer from collusive attack or require time-consuming initialization at every aggregation request. In this paper, we proposed an efficient aggregation protocol which tolerates up to k passive adversaries that do not try to tamper the computation. The proposed protocol does not require a trusted key dealer and needs only one initialization during the whole time-series data aggregation. We formally analyzed the security of our protocol and results showed that the protocol is secure if the Computational Diffie-Hellman (CDH) problem is intractable. Furthermore, the implementation showed that the proposed protocol can be efficient for the time-series data aggregation.

The rapid development of mobile technology has improved users' quality of treatment, and tremendous amounts of medical information are readily available and widely used in data analysis and application, which bring on serious threats to users' privacy. Classical methods based on cryptography and anonymous-series models fail due to their high complexity, poor controllability, and dependence on the background knowledge of adversaries when it comes to current mobile healthcare applications. Differential privacy is a relatively new notion of privacy and has become the de facto standard for a security-controlled privacy guarantee. In this paper, the key aspects of basic concepts and implementation mechanisms related to differential privacy are explained, and the existing research results are concluded. The research results presented include methods based on histograms, tree structures, time series, graphs, and frequent pattern mining data release methods. Finally, shortcomings of existing methods and suggested directions for future research are presented.

Declustering techniques are widely used in distributed environments to reduce query response time through parallel I/O by splitting large files into several small blocks and then distributing those blocks among multiple storage nodes. Unfortunately, however, many small geospatial image data files cannot be further split for distributed storage. In this paper, we propose a complete theoretical system for the distributed storage of small geospatial image data files based on mining the access patterns of geospatial image data using their historical access log information. First, an algorithm is developed to construct an access correlation matrix based on the analysis of the log information, which reveals the patterns of access to the geospatial image data. Then, a practical heuristic algorithm is developed to determine a reasonable solution based on the access correlation matrix. Finally, a number of comparative experiments are presented, demonstrating that our algorithm displays a higher total parallel access probability than those of other algorithms by approximately 10-15% and that the performance can be further improved by more than 20% by simultaneously applying a copy storage strategy. These experiments show that the algorithm can be applied in distributed environments to help realize parallel I/O and thereby improve system performance.

Abstract With the development of wearable devices and hafnium-based ferroelectrics (FE), there is an increasing demand for high-performance flexible ferroelectric memories. However, developing ferroelectric memories that simultaneously exhibit good flexibility and significant performance has proven challenging. Here, we developed a high-performance flexible field-effect transistor (FeFET) device with a thermal budget of less than 400 °C by integrating Zr-doped HfO2 (HZO) and ultra-thin indium tin oxide (ITO). The proposed FeFET has a large memory window (MW) of 2.78 V, a high current on/off ratio (ION/IOFF) of over 108, and high endurance up to 2×107 cycles. In addition, the FeFETs under different bending conditions exhibit excellent neuromorphic properties. The device exhibits excellent bending reliability over 5×105 pulse cycles at a bending radius of 5 mm. The efficient integration of hafnium-based ferroelectric materials with promising ultrathin channel materials (ITO) offers unique opportunities to enable high-performance back-end-of-line (BEOL) compatible wearable FeFETs for edge intelligence applications.

Abstract DNA methylation is a pivotal epigenetic modification that affects gene expression. Tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) comprises diverse immune cells and stromal components, creating a complex landscape that can either promote or inhibit tumor progression. In the TIME, DNA methylation has been shown to play a critical role in influencing immune cell function and tumor immune evasion. DNA methylation regulates immune cell differentiation, immune responses, and TIME composition Targeting DNA methylation in TIME offers various potential avenues for enhancing immune cytotoxicity and reducing immunosuppression. Recent studies have demonstrated that modification of DNA methylation patterns can promote immune cell infiltration and function. However, challenges persist in understanding the precise mechanisms underlying DNA methylation in the TIME, developing selective epigenetic therapies, and effectively integrating these therapies with other antitumor strategies. In conclusion, DNA methylation of both tumor cells and immune cells interacts with the TIME, and thus affects clinical efficacy. The regulation of DNA methylation within the TIME holds significant promise for the advancement of tumor immunotherapy. Addressing these challenges is crucial for harnessing the full potential of epigenetic interventions to enhance antitumor immune responses and improve patient outcomes.
