Owing to the development issues of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in the new domestic and international situation, the content, challenges, and paths of innovation and development of the Greater Bay Area are explored from multiple dimensions, including economic, social, cultural, and institutional. The innovation and development of the Greater Bay Area should strengthen technological and industrial innovation capabilities, improve regional resilience to cope with external shocks, increase the mobility of intraregional factors, improve the well-being of the people's livelihood, enhance the capacity of spatial governance, promote integrated urban-rural development, and optimize the regional pattern of ecological security. The conclusion is that considering the innovation and development of the Greater Bay Area from a systemic and interconnected perspective is crucial for seeking innovations in various development fields and promoting coupling and coordination among them. Therefore, the region may acquire the agency that can continuously break through bottlenecks, resolve external shocks, and unlock new paths of development. We call for the strengthening of cross-field and cross-disciplinary collaborative research to contribute the power of geography to the realization of the development goals of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Flexible and transparent surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrates have attracted considerable attention for their ability to enable the direct in situ detection of analytes on curved surfaces. However, the curvature of an object can impact the signal enhancement of SERS during the measurement process. Herein, we propose a simple approach for fabricating a curvature-insensitive transparent SERS substrate by depositing silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) onto a large-area wrinkled polystyrene/polydimethylsiloxane (Ag NP@W-PS/PDMS) bilayer film. Using rhodamine 6G (R6G) as a probe molecule, the optimized Ag NP@W-PS/PDMS film demonstrates a high analytical enhancement factor (AEF) of 4.83 × 105, excellent uniformity (RSD = 7.85%) and reproducibility (RSD = 3.09%), as well as superior mechanical flexibility. Additionally, in situ measurements of malachite green (MG) on objects with diverse curvatures, including fish, apple, and blueberry, are conducted using a portable Raman system, revealing a consistent SERS enhancement. Furthermore, a robust linear relationship (R2 ≥ 0.990) between Raman intensity and the logarithmic concentration of MG detected from these objects is achieved. These results demonstrate the tremendous potential of the developed curvature-insensitive SERS substrate as a point-of-care testing (POCT) platform for identifying analytes on irregular objects. During decidualization in rodents, uterine stromal cells undergo extensive reprogramming to differentiate into distinct cell types, forming primary decidual zones (PDZs), secondary decidual zones (SDZs), and layers of undifferentiated stromal cells. The formation of secondary decidual zones is accompanied by extensive angiogenesis. During early pregnancy, besides ovarian estrogen, de novo synthesis of estrogen in the uterus is essential for the progress of decidualization. However, the molecular mechanisms are not fully understood. Studies have shown that Cystatin B (Cstb) is highly expressed in the decidual tissue of the uterus, but the regulation and mechanism of Cstb in the process of decidualization have not been reported. Our results showed that Cstb was highly expressed in mouse decidua and artificially induced deciduoma via in situ hybridization and immunofluorescence. Estrogen stimulates the expression of Cstb through the Estrogen receptor (ER)α. Moreover, in situ synthesis of estrogen in the uterus during decidualization regulates the expression of Cstb. Silencing the expression of Cstb affects the migration ability of stromal cells. Knockdown Cstb by siRNA significantly inhibits the expression of Dtprp, a marker for mouse decidualization. Our study identifies a novel estrogen target, Cstb, during decidualization and reveals that Cstb may play a pivotal role in angiogenesis during mouse decidualization via the Angptl7. Decidualization is essential to rodent and primate pregnancy. Senescence is increased during decidualization. Failure of senescence clearance during decidualization will cause pregnancy abnormality. Caveolin-1 is located in plasmalemmal caveolae and involved in senescence. However, whether caveolin-1 is involved in decidualization remains undefined. In this study, we examined the expression, regulation and function of Caveolin-1 during mouse early pregnancy and under mouse and human in vitro decidualization. From days 1 to 8 of pregnancy, Caveolin-1 signals are mainly located in endothelium and myometrium. Estrogen stimulates Caveolin-1 expression in endothelium. Deficiency of estrogen receptor α significantly promotes Caveolin-1 level in uterine stromal cells. Progesterone upregulates Caveolin-1 expression in luminal epithelium. During mouse in vitro decidualization, Caveolin-1 is significantly increased. However, Caveolin-1 is obviously decreased during human in vitro decidualization. Caveolin-1 overexpression and siRNA suppress and upregulate IGFBP1 expression under in vitro decidualization, respectively. Blastocysts-derived tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα) and human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) regulate Caveolin-1 in mouse and human decidual cells, respectively. Caveolin-1 levels are also regulated by high glucose and insulin. In conclusion, a low level of Caveolin-1 should be beneficial for human decidualization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An early warning of a flash flood is essential to prevent the general public from the hazardous flooding events, however, the rapid variation of human activities has led to the uncertainty of risk in prone areas. The lack of a systematic record of flash flood events introduces challenges to flash flood-related research. Herein, we map spatial and temporal variations in flash floods in China from 1950 to 2015 and establish a general ordered logit model in a geographic information environment to estimate the association between the occurrence of flash flood events and natural conditions and the variation of human activities at the watershed level. The results showed that precipitation is an important cause of flash flooding, and demonstrate that anthropogenic intervention (heavy rainfall, density of villages, and vegetation cover) in the environment affect the likelihood of flash floods. We found that the likelihood of flash floods in China may increase with the air quality worsening and that the occurrence of flash floods is strongly correlated with vegetation cover. Our findings suggest a need for further investigation of the link between air quality and flash flooding in flood-prone areas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
