Medical image datasets, particularly those comprising Magnetic Resonance (MR) images, are essential for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. However, these datasets often suffer from class imbalance, where certain classes of abnormalities have unequal representation. Models trained on imbalanced datasets can be biased towards the prominent class, leading to misclassification. Addressing class imbalance problems is crucial to developing robust deep-learning MR image analysis models. This research focuses on the class imbalance problem in MR image datasets and proposes a novel approach to enhance deep learning models. We have introduced a unified approach equipped with a selective attention mechanism, unified loss function, and progressive resizing. The selective attention strategy identifies prominent regions within the underlying image to find the feature maps, retaining only the relevant activations of the minority class. Fine-tuning of the multiple hyperparameters was achieved using a novel unified loss function that plays a vital role in enhancing the overwhelming error performance for minority classes and accuracy for common classes. To address the class imbalances phenomenon, we incorporate progressive resizing that can dynamically adjust the input image size as the model trains. This dynamic nature helps handle class imbalances and improve overall performance. The research evaluates the effectiveness of the proposed approach by embedding it into five state-of-the-art CNN models: UNet, FCN, RCNN, SegNet, and Deeplab-V3. For experimental purposes, we have selected five diverse MR image datasets, BUS2017, MICCAI 2015 head and neck, ATLAS, BRATS 2015, and Digital Database Thyroid Image (DDTI), to evaluate the performance of the proposed approach against state-of-the-art techniques. The assessment of the proposed approach reveals improved performance across all metrics for five different MR imaging datasets. DeepLab-V3 demonstrated the best performance, achieving IoU, DSC, Precision, and Recall scores of 0.893, 0.953, 0.943, and 0.944, respectively, on the BUS dataset. These scores indicate an improvement of 5% in DSC, 6% in IoU, 4% in precision, and approximately 4% in recall compared to the baseline. The most significant increases were observed in the ATLAS and LiTS MICCAI 2017 datasets, with a 5% and 7% increase in IoU and DSC over the baseline (DSC = 0.628, DSC = 0.695) for the ATLAS dataset and a 5% and 9% increase in IoU and DSC for the LiTS MICCAI 2017 dataset.

ObjectiveTo explore the chain-mediated role of sense of career benefit and sense of career mission in the mechanism of psychological flexibility’s effect on nurses’ work engagement.MethodsAdopting the convenience sampling method, 1032 nurses in 10 general hospitals in Sichuan Province were surveyed by questionnaires using the General Information Questionnaire, Sense of Occupational Benefit Scale, Sense of Occupational Mission Scale, Psychological Flexibility Scale, and work engagement Scale in August-October 2022, and the model of the chained-mediated effect was constructed and validated.ResultsThe total psychological resilience score of nurses in 10 general hospitals in Sichuan Province was (91.29 ± 17.38), the total score of sense of occupational benefit was (137.85 ± 21.02), the total score of sense of occupational mission was (40.27 ± 7.37), and the total score of work engagement was (34.99 ± 9.80). The total score of nurses’ work engagement was positively correlated with the total scores of psychological elasticity, sense of professional benefit, and sense of professional mission (all P < 0.05). The direct effect of psychological elasticity on nurses’ work engagement was significant, with an effect value of 0.321; the chain mediation effects of occupational benefit and occupational mission as separate mediators and the chain mediation effects of the two were 0.039, 0.032, and 0.062, respectively.ConclusionNurses’ work engagement in 10 general hospitals in Sichuan province is at a medium level, and occupational benefit and occupational mission play a significant role in the mechanism of the psychological elasticity’s effects on nurses’ work commitment, and the chain mediation effect of occupational mission in the mechanism of psychological elasticity is established. The chain mediation effect in the mechanism was established. Managers should pay attention to nurses with low psychological elasticity, improve their sense of occupational benefit, and enhance their sense of occupational mission in order to further promote the enhancement of work engagement.

Abstract Background The gastrointestinal tract (GIT) microbiome of ruminants and its metabolic repercussions vastly influence host metabolism and growth. However, a complete understanding of the bidirectional interactions that occur across the host-microbiome axis remains elusive, particularly during the critical development stages at early life. Here, we present an integrative multi-omics approach that simultaneously resolved the taxonomic and functional attributes of microbiota from five GIT regions as well as the metabolic features of the liver, muscle, urine, and serum in sika deer (Cervus nippon) across three key early life stages. Results Within the host, analysis of metabolites over time in serum, urine, and muscle (longissimus lumborum) showed that changes in the fatty acid profile were concurrent with gains in body weight. Additional host transcriptomic and metabolomic analysis revealed that fatty acid β-oxidation and metabolism of tryptophan and branched chain amino acids play important roles in regulating hepatic metabolism. Across the varying regions of the GIT, we demonstrated that a complex and variable community of bacteria, viruses, and archaea colonized the GIT soon after birth, whereas microbial succession was driven by the cooperative networks of hub populations. Furthermore, GIT volatile fatty acid concentrations were marked by increased microbial metabolic pathway abundances linked to mannose (rumen) and amino acids (colon) metabolism. Significant functional shifts were also revealed across varying GIT tissues, which were dominated by host fatty acid metabolism associated with reactive oxygen species in the rumen epithelium, and the intensive immune response in both small and large intestine. Finally, we reveal a possible contributing role of necroptosis and apoptosis in enhancing ileum and colon epithelium development, respectively. Conclusions Our findings provide a comprehensive view for the involved mechanisms in the context of GIT microbiome and ruminant metabolic growth at early life. Video Abstract

Transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) followed by intravesical therapy remains the most effective strategy for the management of non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer worldwide. TURBT has two purposes: to remove all visible tumors and to obtain tumor specimens for histopathological analysis. However, the detection of flat and small malignant lesions under white-light cystoscopy is extremely challenging, and residual lesions are still the main reason for the high recurrence rate of bladder cancer. We hypothesized that visual enhancement of malignant lesions using targeted optical molecular imaging could potentially highlight residual tumors in the bladder during surgery, and near-infrared photoimmunotherapy (NIR-PIT) could kill exfoliated cancer cells and residual tumors. A mouse model of complete or partial bladder tumor resection was established under the guidance of optical molecular imaging mediated by indocyanine green and anti-CD47-Alexa Fluor 790, respectively. Once the tumor recurred, mouse model received repeated CD47-targeted NIR-PIT. After complete resection, there was no tumor recurrence. Furthermore, the growth rate of recurrent tumor decreased significantly after repeated NIR-PIT. Therefore, CD47-targeted optical molecular imaging can potentially assist urologists to detect and remove all tumors, and repeated NIR-PIT shows the potential to reduce tumor recurrence rates and inhibit the growth of recurrent tumor.

Periploca forrestii Schltr. (P. forrestii) is a classical medicinal plant and is commonly used in traditional medicine for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, soft tissue injuries, and traumatic injuries. The aim of this study was to evaluate the anti-arthritic effects of three fractions of P. forrestii alcoholic extracts (PAE), P. forrestii water extracts (PWE), and total flavonoids from P. forrestii (PTF) on Freund’s complete adjuvant (FCA)-induced arthritis in rats, and to use a non-targeted lipidomic method to investigate the mechanism of action of the three fractions of P. forrestii in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. To assess the effectiveness of anti-rheumatoid arthritis, various indicators were measured, including joint swelling, histopathological changes in the joints, serum cytokines (tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), interleukin-6 (IL-6)), and the joint inflammatory substance prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). Finally, ultra-performance liquid chromatography–quadrupole-orbitrap–high-resolution mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-Orbitrap-HRMS) was used to determine the non-targeted lipid histology of the collected rat serum and urine samples to investigate the possible mechanism of action. PWE, PAE, and PTF were all effective in treating FCA-induced rheumatoid arthritis. The administered groups all reduced joint swelling and lowered serum inflammatory factor levels in rats. In the screening of lipid metabolite differences between serum and urine of the rat model group and the normal group, a total of 52 different metabolites were screened, and the levels of lipid metabolites in PWE, PAE, and PTF were significantly higher than those in the normal group after administration. In addition, PWE, PAE, and PTF may have significant therapeutic effects on FCA-induced arthritis by modulating nicotinic acid, nicotinamide, and histidine metabolic pathways.

BackgroundPost-stroke shoulder pain (PSSP) is characterized by shoulder pain on the hemiplegic side, which can limit physical activity in patients with stroke. Acupuncture combined with rehabilitation training (AR) has been widely used in PSSP, but the evidence of its effectiveness is still unclear.ObjectiveThe study aimed to evaluate the effect and safety of AR vs. rehabilitation training (RT) alone on PSSP.MethodsWe searched PubMed, the Cochrane Library, the Chinese Biological Medicine Database (CBM), the Chinese Scientific Journal Database (VIP), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and the WAN FANG database for relevant studies from their inception to February 2022. Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing the effect of AR with RT alone on PSSP were considered. The primary outcome was shoulder pain. Secondary outcomes included upper limb motor function, activities of daily living (ADL), shoulder range of motion (ROM), and adverse events (AEs). Subgroup analysis and sensitivity analysis were also conducted. Quality assessment was implemented based on Cochrane risk of bias (ROB) criteria, which consist of seven items. When more than four items in a study were judged as low ROB, the overall quality of this study was considered low risk.ResultsA total of 40 studies were included in the qualitative analysis, and 35 (87.5%) studies with 2,554 patients were included in the meta-analysis. Of the 40 studies, 14 (35.0%) were of moderate-to-high quality. The meta-analysis results showed that AR is better than RT alone in reducing shoulder pain (MD −1.32, 95% CI −1.58 to −1.07), improving upper limb motor function (MD 6.81, 95% CI 4.95–8.67), ADL (MD 11.17, 95% CI 9.44–12.91), and shoulder ROM (internal rotation: MD 10.48, 95% CI 8.14–12.83; backward extension: MD 7.82, 95% CI 6.00–9.64; anteflexion: MD 12.88, 95% CI 5.47–20.29; external rotation: MD 11.40, 95% CI 6.17–16.64; abduction: MD 16.96, 95% CI 8.61–25.31) without obvious AEs.ConclusionAR may be better than RT alone for the improvement of shoulder pain, upper limb motor function, ADL, and shoulder ROM, without obvious AEs in patients with PSSP. However, considering the clinical and statistical heterogeneity, our findings need to be interpreted with caution. Three hundred thirty-nine nurses were recruited from a tertiary general hospital in Taizhou, China. Psychological capital and humanistic care ability were measured using a self-reported questionnaire. BackgroundSocial support is an important factor affecting individual mental health. However, the relationship between social support and mental health in frontline healthcare workers (FHW) during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has garnered less attention. In this study, we aimed to investigate the level of social support and the prevalence of depression and anxiety in FHW during the COVID-19 pandemic and determine the factors affecting the relationship between social support, depression, and anxiety.MethodsA cross-sectional study using an online survey was conducted to collect data from FHW between 15 February and 31 March 2020 in China. The data included demographic factors, Self-rated Depression Scale (SDS), Self-rated Anxiety Scale (SAS), and Social Support Rate Scale (SSRS). Spearman correlation test was performed to determine the correlation among SAS, SDS, and SSRS scores. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed to determine the relationship among demographic factors, social support, depression, and anxiety in FHW.ResultsOf all 201 participants, 44 (21.9%) had depressive symptoms and 32 (15.9%) had anxiety symptoms. The average total SSRS scores among FHW were lower than that of the norms of the Chinese general population (37.17 ± 7.54 versus 44.38 ± 8.38, P < 0.001). Marital status positively affected the SSRS score (β = 7.395, P < 0.01). Age over 40 years old negatively affected the SSRS score (β = −5.349, P = 0.017). The total SSRS score, subjective social support score, objective social support score, and support utilization score among FHW negatively correlated with the SAS score and SDS score (P < 0.05). A lower support utilization score was significantly associated with high anxiety and depressive symptoms (β = −0.869, P = 0.024; β = −1.088, P = 0.035, respectively).ConclusionDuring the COVID-19 pandemic, FHW experienced depression, anxiety, and inadequate social support. The marital status and age had a major impact on social support. Social support was inversely associated with depression and anxiety. Improving the mental health of FHW by strengthening social support is crucial. Future studies are needed to investigate how to improve the level of social support and mental health condition of FHW facing public health emergencies in the future.

Abstract Background Gastrointestinal tract (GIT) microbiomes in ruminants play major roles in host health and thus animal production. However, we lack an integrated understanding of microbial community structure and function as prior studies. are predominantly biased towards the rumen. Therefore, to acquire a microbiota inventory of the discrete GIT compartments, In this study, we used shotgun metagenomics to profile the microbiota of 370 samples that represent 10 GIT regions of seven ruminant species. Results Our analyses reconstructed a GIT microbial reference catalog with > 154 million nonredundant genes and identified 8745 uncultured candidate species from over 10,000 metagenome-assembled genomes. The integrated gene catalog across the GIT regions demonstrates spatial associations between the microbiome and physiological adaptations, and 8745 newly characterized genomes substantially expand the genomic landscape of ruminant microbiota, particularly those from the lower gut. This substantially expands the previously known set of endogenous microbial diversity and the taxonomic classification rate of the GIT microbiome. These candidate species encode hundreds of enzymes and novel biosynthetic gene clusters that improve our understanding concerning methane production and feed efficiency in ruminants. Overall, this study expands the characterization of the ruminant GIT microbiota at unprecedented spatial resolution and offers clues for improving ruminant livestock production in the future. Conclusions Having access to a comprehensive gene catalog and collections of microbial genomes provides the ability to perform efficiently genome-based analysis to achieve a detailed classification of GIT microbial ecosystem composition. Our study will bring unprecedented power in future association studies to investigate the impact of the GIT microbiota in ruminant health and production. Video abstract

ObjectiveThe low detection rate of early and small tumors remains a clinical problem that urgently needs to be solved in the accurate diagnosis and treatment of upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC). The objective of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of CD47 as a target for optical molecular imaging of human UTUC and conduct preliminary ex vivo imaging experiments.MethodsWe firstly analyzed the genome-wide mRNA expression data from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO). Paraffin-embedded tissue specimens comprising UTUC and normal urothelium were collected. All tissue specimens were used for immunohistochemistry to compare CD47 protein expression in normal and cancer tissue. Meanwhile, 12 patients undergoing radical nephroureterectomy were prospectively included in ex vivo imaging experiments. Freshly isolated upper urinary tract specimens were incubated with anti-CD47-Alexa Fluor 790 and then imaged under white light and near-infrared (NIR) light. Standard histopathologic evaluation was performed, and findings were correlated with CD47-targeted NIR molecular imaging.ResultsThe GEO data revealed that CD47 mRNA expression was higher in UTUC specimens than that in paracancer normal tissue. In immunohistochemical analysis, the CD47 protein expression level was higher in both non-muscle-invasive and muscle-invasive (stage ≥T2) UTUCs than that in normal uroepithelium, and the localization of CD47 protein was the tumor cell membrane. In the ex vivo imaging experiments, all patients were pathologically diagnosed with UTUC, and no adverse effects of anti-CD47-Alexa Fluor 790 on the histological structure of the tumor and normal uroepithelium were observed. In the NIR grayscale images, the mean fluorescence intensity of the tumor tissue was significantly higher than that of the adjacent normal background tissue, which greatly improved the visualization of the tumor.ConclusionsCD47-targeted NIR molecular imaging could be a feasible and powerful strategy for the accurate diagnosis of UTUC. Larger-scale randomized trials are needed.

Abstract Background Recent study found that vitamin D before conception was considered as a potential additional determinant for achieving pregnancy and live births. The study aimed to evaluate the serum 25 hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) levels and its affecting factors among preconception fertile women. Methods This cross-sectional study enrolled 410 women aged 22–44 years who attended a preconception genetic counseling clinic from January 2018 to May 2019. Sociodemographic characteristics and reproductive history of women were collected, and height and weight were measured. Serum 25(OH)D concentration was assayed with chemiluminescence immunoassay. Descriptive statistics were used to examine serum 25(OH)D concentration, and socio-demographic characteristics and reproductive history among preconception women. Determinants of vitamin D deficiency and its affecting factors were assessed using χ2 test and logistic regression. Results Findings showed 84.4% of women had serum 25(OH)D concentration below 20 ng/mL. While numerous studies have shown that fluoride or arsenic exposure may damage the reproductive system, there are few reports of co-exposure to fluoride and arsenic. In addition, the literature on autophagy and intestinal flora composition in reproductive toxicity studies of co-exposure to fluoride and arsenic is insufficient. In this study, we developed a rat model of fluoride and arsenic exposure via drinking water from pre-pregnancy to 90 days postnatal. Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into sterile water control group, fluoride group (100 mg/L NaF), arsenic group (50 mg/L NaAsO2) and combined exposure group (100 mg/L NaF+50 mg/L NaAsO2). Our results showed that fluoride and arsenic exposure caused a reduction in testicular weight and significant pathological damage to tissue. We found that the levels of follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, and testosterone were reduced to varying degrees. Meanwhile experiments showed that fluoride and arsenic exposure can modulate autophagic flux, causing increased levels of Beclin1 and LC3 expression and decreased p62 expression. Analogously, by performing 16S sequencing of rat feces, we found 24 enterobacterial genera that differed significantly among the groups. Furthermore, the flora associated with testicular injury were identified by correlation analysis of hormonal indices and autophagy alterations with intestinal flora composition at the genus level, respectively. In summary, our study shows that fluoride and arsenic co-exposure alters autophagic flux in the testis, causes testicular injury, and reveals an association between altered intestinal flora composition and testicular injury.

Objective: The aim of this study was to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess whether cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) on neuroimaging of patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) treated with intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) is associated with an increased risk of hemorrhagic transformation (HT), symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH), and poor functional outcome (PFO).Methods: A thorough search of several databases was carried out to identify relevant studies up to December 2020. We included studies of patients with AIS and neuroimaging markers of CSVD treated with IVT. The primary outcome was HT, and the secondary outcomes were sICH and 3-month PFO. The quality of the studies involved was evaluated using the Newcastle–Ottawa Scale (NOS). The meta-analysis with the fixed effects model was performed.Results: Twenty-four eligible studies (n = 9,419) were pooled in the meta-analysis. All included studies were regarded as high quality with the NOS scores of at least 6 points. The meta-analysis revealed associations between the presence of CSVD and HT, sICH, and the 3-month PFO after IVT. Compared with no CSVD, the presence of CSVD was associated with an increased risk of HT (OR: 1.81, 95% CI: 1.52–2.16), sICH (OR: 2.42, 95% CI: 1.76–3.33), and 3-month PFO (OR: 2.15, 95% CI: 1.89–2.44). For patients with AIS complicated with CSVD, compared with a CSVD score of 0–1, a CSVD score of 2–4 was associated with an increased risk of HT (OR: 3.10, 95% CI: 1.67–5.77), sICH (OR: 2.86, 95% CI: 1.26–6.49), and 3-month PFO (OR: 4.58, 95% CI: 2.97–7.06).Conclusion: Patients with AIS complicated with neuroimaging markers of CSVD are at increased risk of HT and 3-month PFO after IVT. The clinical pharmacodynamics of tacrolimus in renal transplant patients has significant interindividual variability. T lymphocytes were selected to study the pharmacodynamic response of tacrolimus, which was significantly correlated with renal function and the outcome of renal transplant patients. Ultra-performance liquid chromatography–quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectroscopy (UPLC/Q-TOF-MS) was performed to obtain the metabolic profiles of 109 renal transplant patients. A partial least squares (PLS) model was constructed to screen potential biomarkers that could predict the efficacy of tacrolimus. Multinomial logistic regression analysis established a bridge that could quantify the relationship between the efficacy of tacrolimus and biomarkers. The results showed a good correlation between endogenous molecules and the efficacy of tacrolimus. Metabolites such as serum creatinine, mesobilirubinogen, L-isoleucine, 5-methoxyindoleacetate, eicosapentaenoic acid, N2-succinoylarginine, tryptophyl-arginine, and butyric acid were indicated as candidate biomarkers. In addition, the key biomarkers could correctly predict the efficacy of tacrolimus with an accuracy of 82.5%. Finally, we explored the mechanism of individual variation by pathway analysis, which showed that amino acid metabolism was significantly related to the efficacy of tacrolimus. Moreover, orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) showed that there was no difference in key metabolites among different pharmacodynamic groups at 1 month and 3 months after dose adjustment, suggesting that pharmacometabonomics is a useful tool to predict individual differences in pharmacodynamics and thus to facilitate individualized drug therapy.

The addition of food-derived antihypertensive peptides to the diet is considered a reasonable antihypertension strategy. However, data about the stability of antihypertensive peptides in different food processing conditions are limited. In this study, through Sephadex G-15 gel chromatography and RP-HPLC separation, UPLC–ESI–MS/MS analysis and in silico screening, two novel ACE-inhibitory peptides, Pro-Leu-Leu-Lys (IC50: 549.87 μmol/L) and Pro-Pro-Met-Trp-Pro-Phe-Val (IC50: 364.62 μmol/L), were identified in millet bran glutelin-2 hydrolysates. The inhibition of angiotensin-I converting enzyme and the potential safety of PLLK and PPMWPFV were studied using molecular docking and in silico prediction, respectively. The results demonstrated that PLLK and PPMWPFV could non-competitively bind to one and seven binding sites of ACE through short hydrogen bonds, respectively. Both PLLK and PPMWPFV were resistant to different pH values (2.0–10.0), pasteurization conditions, addition of Na+, Mg2+ or K+ and simulated gastrointestinal digestion. However, PLLK and PPMWPFV were unstable upon heat treatment at 100 °C for more than 20 min or treatment with Fe3+ or Zn2+. In fact, treatment with Fe3+ or Zn2+ induced the formation of PLLK–iron or PLLK–zinc chelates and reduced the ACE-inhibitory activity of PLLK. These results indicate that peptides derived from millet bran could be added to foods as antihypertension agents.

ObjectiveTo evaluate the safety and efficacy of overnight continuous saline bladder irrigation (CSBI) for patients who have received thulium laser en bloc resection of bladder tumor (TmLRBT) combined with immediate intravesical chemotherapy previously.MethodsFrom October 2014 to June 2018, 235 patients with newly diagnosed non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) were included in this retrospective study. All patients received intravesical instillation of pirarubicin immediately after TmLRBT. The patients were divided into two groups according to the duration of postoperative bladder irrigation with normal saline. After immediate intravesical chemotherapy, patients in group 1 received overnight CSBI, while patients in group 2 did not receive overnight CSBI. Data on the time of initial tumor recurrence, recurrence-free survival (RFS) and progression-free survival (PFS) rates, and perioperative complications were collected and analyzed.ResultsOf 235 included patients (129 in group 1 and 106 in group 2), the median follow-up periods were 42 and 38 months, respectively. There were no significant differences in patients’ baseline characteristics between the two groups. The RFS rates of patients in group 1 were 90.7, 82.7, and 76.8% at the end of the first, third, and fifth years, while the corresponding RFS rates of patients in group 2 were 87.7, 78.9, and 73.3%, respectively. Four patients in group 1 and five patients in group 2 experienced tumor progression. No significant differences between the two groups were observed in the time of initial tumor recurrence, RFS, and PFS rates. Only Grade I complications occurred in the two groups, and no significant difference was reached between the two groups.ConclusionsFor patients with NMIBC who have previously received TmLRBT combined with immediate intravesical chemotherapy, overnight CSBI may not improve oncological outcomes and reduce perioperative complications.

Although transurethral resection of bladder tumor is the golden standard for the treatment of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer, this surgical procedure still has some serious drawbacks. For example, piecemeal resection of tumor tissue results in exfoliated tumor cells dissemination and implantation, and fragmented tumor specimens make it difficult for pathologists to accurately assess the pathological stage and histologic grade. En bloc tumor resection follows the basic principle of oncological surgery and provides an intact tumor specimen containing detrusor muscle for pathologists to make accurate histopathological assessment. However, there is no robust clinical evidence that en bloc tumor resection is superior to conventional resection in terms of oncological outcomes. Considering the high recurrence rate, small or occult tumor lesions may be overlooked and incomplete tumor resection may occur during white light cystoscopy-assisted transurethral resection. Molecular fluorescent tracers have the ability to bind tumor cells with high sensitivity and specificity. Optical molecular imaging mediated by it can detect small or occult malignant lesions while minimizing the occurrence of false-positive results. Meanwhile, optical molecular imaging can provide dynamic and real-time image guidance in the surgical procedure, which helps urologists to accurately determine the boundary and depth of tumor invasion, so as to perform complete and high-quality transurethral tumor resection. Integrating the advantages of these two technologies, optical molecular imaging-assisted en bloc tumor resection shows the potential to improve the positive detection rate of small or occult tumor lesions and the quality of transurethral resection, resulting in high recurrence-free and progression-free survival rates.

With the rapid development of communication technology, the intelligent mobile terminal brings about great convenience to people’s life with rich applications, while its power consumption has become a great concern to researchers and consumers. Power modeling is the basis to understand and analyze the power consumption characteristics of the terminal. In this paper, we analyze the Bluetooth and hidden power consumption of the android platform and fix the power model of open-source Android platform. Then, a power consumption monitoring tool is implemented based on the model; the tool is divided into three layers, which are original information monitor layer, power consumption calculation layer, and application layer. The original monitor layer gets the power consumption data and running time of the different components under different states, the calculation layer calculates the power consumption of each hardware and each application based on the power model of each component, and the application layer displays the real-time power consumption of the software and hardware. Finally, we test our tool in real environment by using Xiaomi 9 Pro and perform comparison with actual instrument measurement; the error between the monitored value and the measured value is less than 5%.

Abstract Yak (Bos grunniens) is an important and dominant livestock species in the challenging environment of the Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau. Rumen microbiota of the solid, liquid, and epithelium fractions play key roles in nutrient metabolism and contribute to host adaptation in ruminants. However, there is a little knowledge of the microbiota in these rumen fractions of yak. Therefore, we collected samples of solid, liquid, dorsal, and ventral epithelium fractions from five female yaks, then amplified bacterial 16S rRNA gene V4 regions and sequenced them using an Illumina MiSeq platform. Principal coordinates analysis detected significant differences in bacterial communities between the liquid, solid, and epithelium fractions, and between dorsal and ventral epithelium fractions. Rikenellaceae RC9, the families Lachnospiraceae and Ruminococcaceae, and Fibrobacter spp. were the abundant and enriched bacteria in solid fraction, while the genera Prevotella and Prevotellaceae UCG 003 were higher in the liquid fraction. Campylobacter spp., Comamonas spp., Desulfovibrio spp., and Solobacterium spp. were significantly higher in dorsal epithelium, while Howardella spp., Prevotellaceae UCG 001, Ruminococcaceae UCG 005, and Treponema 2 were enriched in the ventral epithelium. Comparison of predictive functional profiles among the solid, liquid, and dorsal, and ventral epithelium fractions also revealed significant differences. Microbiota in the ventral fraction of yak rumen also significantly differ from reported microbiota of cattle. In conclusion, our results improve our knowledge of the taxonomic composition and roles of yak rumen microbiota.

Unbleached kraft pulp fibers were reacted with laccase in the presence of different phenolic compounds (isoeugenol, butyl p-hydroxybenzoate, p-coumaric acid, and ferulic acid) in order to confer them with new properties. After the enzymatic stage, antimicrobial tests demonstrated that the handsheets formed from the laccase/phenolic-treated pulp showed a greater efficacy against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria compared to handsheet paper treated only with laccase and a control. Laccase in the presence of butyl p-hydroxybenzoate produced handsheets with the most significantly enhanced bactericidal effect. An analysis of scanning electron microscope images of the treated kraft pulps increased kappa numbers and surface features of the fibers. The reduction in the absolute value of the zeta potential of the pulps indicates that the phenolic compounds produce chemical cross-linking within the fiber surface. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy shows that the lignin content of the pulp fiber surface increased after adding the laccase and phenolic compounds.

Dry corn straw (DCS) is usually used in anaerobic digestion (AD), but fresh corn straw (FCS) has been given less consideration. In this study, the thermophilic AD of single-substrate (FCS and DCS) and co-digestion (straw with cattle manure) were investigated. The results show that when FCS was used as the single-substrate for AD, the methane production was 144 mL·g-1·VS-1, which was 7.5% and 19.6% higher than that of single DCS and FCS with cattle manure, respectively. In addition, the structure of FCS was loose and coarse, which was easier to be degraded than DCS. At the hydrolysis and acidification stages, Clostridium_sensu_stricto_1, Clostridium_sensu_stricto_7 and Sporosarcina promoted the decomposition of organic matter, leading to volatile fatty acids (VFAs) accumulation. Methanosarcina (54.4%) activated multifunctional methanogenic pathways to avoid the VFAs inhibition, which was important at the CH4 production stage. The main pathway was hydrogenotrophic methanogenesis, with genes encoding formylmethanofuran dehydrogenase (K00200-K00203) and tetrahydromethanopterin Smethyltransferase (K00577-K00584). Methanosarcina also activated acetotrophic and methylotrophic methanogenesis pathways, with genes encoding acetyl phosphate (K13788) and methyl-coenzyme M reductase (K04480, K14080 and K14081), respectively. Beef is rich in nutrients and is one of the favored meats among consumers. Market price, consumer willingness to buy and satisfaction are affected by the quality of beef, so it is important to test the quality of beef. At present, traditional beef quality testing methods have the problems of time-consuming, sample damage and complex operation. Recently, non-destructive testing technology has been widely used in beef quality testing because of its advantages of rapidity, high efficiency, non-destructive and environment-friendly. This paper summarises the progress of non-destructive testing technology in beef quality analysis (sensory quality, nutritional quality and other quality), and systematically describes the principles of non-destructive testing techniques such as near-infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, hyperspectral imaging, E-tongue and E-nose. The progress of non-destructive testing techniques in beef quality analysis within the last five years is discussed in detail. The existing problems of non-destructive testing technology in beef quality analysis are put forward, and the future application prospect is prospected. It hopes to provide a reference for the research and application of non-destructive testing technology for beef quality.

Abstract The chloroplast (cp) genome sequence of Mussaenda pubescens, a promising resource that is used as a traditional medicine and drink, is important for understanding the phylogenetic relationships among the Mussaenda family and genetic improvement and reservation. This research represented the first comprehensive description of the morphological characteristics of M. pubescens, as well as an analysis of the complete cp genome and phylogenetic relationship. The results indicated a close relationship between M. pubescens and M. hirsutula based on the morphological characteristics of the flower and leaves. The cp was sequenced using the Illumina NovaSeq 6000 platform. The results indicated the cp genome of M. pubescens spanned a total length of 155,122 bp, including a pair of inverted repeats (IRA and IRB) with a length of 25,871 bp for each region, as well as a large single-copy (LSC) region and a small single-copy (SSC) region with lengths of 85,370 bp and 18,010 bp, respectively. The results of phylogenetic analyses demonstrated that species within the same genus displayed a tendency to group closely together. It was suggested that Antirhea, Cinchona, Mitragyna, Neolamarckia, and Uncaria might have experienced an early divergence. Furthermore, M. hirsutula showed a close genetic connection to M. pubescens, with the two species having partially overlapping distributions in China. This study presents crucial findings regarding the identification, evolution, and phylogenetic research on Mussaenda plants, specifically targeting M. pubescens.

Abstract Minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE) has a substantial impact on the clinical outcomes and quality of life (QOL) of patients with cirrhosis. However, timely diagnosis and intervention are challenging due to sophisticated diagnostic methods. In this study, 673 healthy controls and 905 patients with cirrhosis were screened, and 660 healthy controls and 757 patients with cirrhosis, divided into the test (292 patients) and validation (465 patients) cohort, were analyzed after screening. A diagnostic model of the Stroop test (Stroop‐CN) was constructed by multivariate linear regression based on the results of healthy controls. The prevalence of MHE and the comparison results with psychometric hepatic encephalopathy score through the Stroop‐CN model were stable in the test and validation cohorts. Moreover, the prevalence of MHE remained significantly higher in patients with worse disease conditions marked as high Child–Pugh grades and the Model for End‐stage Liver Disease and Sodium (MELD‐Na) scores in the test and validation cohort. The EuroQol 5‐D questionnaire revealed that patients with MHE had a worse QOL than those without MHE both in the test and validation cohort. In conclusion, an easy and practical Stroop‐CN model for MHE diagnosis based on the EncephalApp is established. It is found that a considerable number of Chinese patients with cirrhosis experience MHE, which significantly impacts their QOL.

In recent years, object detection in Synthetic-Aperture Radar (SAR) images still faces many challenges, especially for ship detection. Small or dense ships are vulnerable to the interference of complex scenes such as ports and land. In feature extraction, a large amount of redundant information on the feature map will further reduce the network’s attention to small-sized ships. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a network called neighborhood removal-and-emphasis network (NRE-Net), including an object neighborhood removal (ONR) strategy and a neighborhood feature emphasis (NFE) module. Among them, the ONR strategy directly removes the complex background information around the ship before feature extraction, only retaining effective contextual neighborhoods conducive to ship detection and avoiding the interference of complex background information on the network. The NFE module is based on ONR to extract features and form a weight map of small-sized ships or complex images. This module can adaptively recognize the detection neighborhood of each ship and highlight the detection ship on the feature map. Our network has validated the effectiveness of the method on multiple SAR ship datasets and improved the object AP for each size. Abstract In this study, we aimed to identify molecular markers associated with type II alveolar epithelial cell injury in acute lung injury (ALI) models using bioinformatics methods. The objective was to provide new insights for the diagnosis and treatment of ALI/ARDS. We downloaded RNA SEQ datasets (GSE109913, GSE179418, and GSE119123) from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and used R language package to screen differentially expressed genes (DEGs). DEGs were annotated using Gene Ontology (GO), and their pathways were analyzed using Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG). DEGs were imported into the STRING database and analyzed using Cytoscape software to determine the protein network of DEGs and calculate the top 10 nodes for the hub genes. Finally, potential therapeutic drugs for the hub genes were predicted using the DGIdb database. We identified 78 DEGs, including 70 up-regulated genes and 8 down-regulated genes. GO analysis revealed that the DEGs were mainly involved in biological processes such as granulocyte migration, response to bacterial-derived molecules, and cytokine-mediated signaling pathways. Additionally, they had cytokine activity, chemokine activity, and receptor ligand activity, and functioned in related receptor binding, CXCR chemokine receptor binding, G protein-coupled receptor binding, and other molecular functions. KEGG analysis indicated that the DEGs were mainly involved in TNF signaling pathway, IL-17 signaling pathway, NF-κB signal pathway, chemokine signal pathway, cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction signal pathway, and others. We identified eight hub genes, including IRF7, IFIT1, IFIT3, PSMB8, PSMB9, BST2, OASL2, and ZBP1, which were all up-regulated genes. We identified several hub genes of type II alveolar epithelial cells in ALI mouse models using bioinformatics analysis. These results provide new targets for understanding and treating of ALI.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a malignant tumor of the gastrointestinal tract that significantly impacts the health of patients and lacks promising methods of diagnosis. Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) are involved in CRC progression, and their function is regulated by long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs). The lncRNA NBR2 was recently reported as an oncogene, whose function in CRC remains uncertain. The present study aimed to investigate the biological function of lncRNA NBR2 in the progression of CRC and its underlying molecular mechanisms. Ten pairs of clinical CRC and para-carcinoma tissues were collected to determine the expression levels of lncRNA NBR2 and miR-19a, and the polarization state of TAMs. Quantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction was used to evaluate the expression of miR-19a, and western blotting was used to determine the expression levels of tumor necrosis factor-α, human leukocyte antigen-DR, arginase-1, CD163, CD206, interleukin-4, AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), p-AMPK, hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α), protein kinase B (AKT), p-AKT, mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR), and p-mTOR in TAMs. The proliferative ability of HCT-116 cells was detected using the CCK8 assay, and the migratory ability of HCT-116 cells was evaluated using the Transwell assay. The interaction between lncRNA NBR2 and miR-19a was determined using the luciferase assay. The lncRNA NBR2 was downregulated and miR-19a was highly expressed in CRC cells, accompanied by a high M2 polarization. Downregulated miR-19a promoted M1 polarization, activated AMPK, suppressed HIF-1α and AKT/mTOR signaling pathways, and promoted antitumor properties in NBR2-overexpressed TAMs, which were all reversed by the introduction of the miR-19a mimic. LncRNA NBR2 was verified to target miR-19a in macrophages according to the results of the luciferase assay. Collectively, lncRNA NBR2 may suppress the progression of CRC by downregulating miR-19a to regulate M2 macrophage polarization.

In this study, a Pt@Co-Al LDH hybrid structure was fabricated by assembling the metal precursor PtCl62− with the exfoliated LDH nanosheets followed by in situ reduction by NaBH4. The morphology, composition and microstructure of the hybrid were characterized by FESEM, HRTEM, XRD, XPS and BET techniques. Pt nanoparticles (NPs) with an average particle size of 3.1 nm were successfully and uniformly loaded on the surface of LDH nanosheets. The catalytic activity of the Pt@Co-Al LDH hybrid was tested for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol, which is one of the most frequent pollutants in wastewater effluent from the pharmaceutical and textile industries. The hybrid displays superior catalytic activity and stability in the reduction of 4-NP under environmental conditions with NaBH4 as a reducing agent. The hybrid can be recovered in a simple way and still shows high catalytic activity after five reuses.

Energy storage equipment can play a unique advantage to recycle the regenerative braking energy of metro, of which flywheel energy storage system (FESS) has a good application prospect. At present, the control topology of FESS is two-level converter, and the DC voltage of FESS is mostly DC 750 V. High speed maglev-flywheel energy storage system (HSM-FESS) is used to recycle the braking energy in transit transportation. In order to achieve stable operation of the HSM-FESS, the control strategy based on the voltage threshold of the DC1500 V traction grid is adopted. At the same time, the Neutral Point Clamped (NPC) three-level control method of high speed maglev-permanent magnet motor (HSM-PMM) based on square wave modulation-two phase conduction (SWM-TPC) is proposed. A starting and braking simulation model of metro with HSM-FESS is built in MATLAB/Simulink, and the relevant simulation verification is completed.

A fractional-order Leslie-Gower prey-predator-parasite system with delay is proposed in this article. The existence and uniqueness of the solutions, as well as their non-negativity and boundedness, are studied. Based on the characteristic equations and the conditions of stability and Hopf bifurcation, the local asymptotic stability of each equilibrium point and Hopf bifurcation of interior equilibrium point are investigated. Moreover, a Lyapunov function is constructed to prove the global asymptotic stability of the infection-free equilibrium point. Lastly, numerical examples are studied to verify the validity of the obtained newly results

Molecular property prediction is a crucial task in various fields and has recently garnered significant attention. To achieve accurate and fast prediction of molecular properties, machine learning (ML) models have been widely employed due to their superior performance compared to traditional methods by trial and error. However, most of the existing ML models that do not incorporate 3D molecular information are still in need of improvement, as they are mostly poor at differentiating stereoisomers of certain types, particularly chiral ones. Also,routine featurization methods using only incomplete features are hard to obtain explicable molecular representations. In this paper, we propose the Stereo Molecular Graph BERT (SMG-BERT) by integrating the 3D space geometric parameters, 2D topological information, and 1D SMILES string into the self-attention-based BERT model. In addition, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy results and bond dissociation energy (BDE) are integrated as extra atomic and bond features to improve the model’s performance and interpretability analysis. The comprehensive integration of 1D, 2D, and 3D information could establish a unified and unambiguous molecular characterization system to distinguish conformations, such as chiral molecules. Intuitively integrated chemical information enables the model to possess interpretability that is consistent with chemical logic. Experimental results on 12 benchmark molecular datasets show that SMG-BERT consistently outperforms existing methods. At the same time, the experimental results demonstrate that SMG-BERT is generalizable and reliable.

Abstract The hippo signaling pathway is a highly conserved evolutionary signaling pathway that plays an important role in regulating cell proliferation, organ size, tissue development, and regeneration. Increasing evidences consider that the hippo signaling pathway is involved in the process of respiratory diseases. Hippo signaling pathway is mainly composed of mammalian STE20-like kinase 1/2 (MST1/2), large tumor suppressor 1/2 (LATS1/2), WW domain of the Sav family containing protein 1 (SAV1), MOB kinase activator 1 (MOB1), Yes-associated protein (YAP) or transcriptional coactivator with PDZ-binding motif (TAZ), and members of the TEA domain (TEAD) family. YAP is the cascade effector of the hippo signaling pathway. The activation of YAP promotes pulmonary arterial vascular smooth muscle cells (PAVSMCs) proliferation, which leads to pulmonary vascular remodeling; thereby the pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is aggravated. While the loss of YAP leads to high expression of inflammatory genes and the accumulation of inflammatory cells, the pneumonia is consequently exacerbated. In addition, overexpressed YAP promotes the proliferation of lung fibroblasts and collagen deposition; thereby the idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is promoted. Moreover, YAP knockout reduces collagen deposition and the senescence of adult alveolar epithelial cells (AECs); hence the IPF is slowed. In addition, hippo signaling pathway may be involved in the repair of acute lung injury (ALI) by promoting the proliferation and differentiation of lung epithelial progenitor cells and intervening in the repair of pulmonary capillary endothelium. Moreover, the hippo signaling pathway is involved in asthma. In conclusion, the hippo signaling pathway is involved in respiratory diseases. More researches are needed to focus on the molecular mechanisms by which the hippo signaling pathway participates in respiratory diseases.

Abstract Background Little research has been conducted on the spatio-temporal relationship between the severe cases and the enteroviruses infections of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD). This study aimed to investigate epidemic features and spatial clusters of HFMD incidence rates and assess the relationship between Enterovirus 71 (EV71) and Coxsackievirus A16 (CoxA16) and severe cases of HMFD in Gansu province, China. Methods Weekly county-specific data on HFMD between 1st January and 31st December 2018 were collected from the China Infectious Disease Information System (CIDIS), including enterovirus type (EV71 and CoxA16), severe and non-severe cases in Gansu province, China. Temporal risk [frequency index (α), duration index (β) and intensity index (γ)] and spatial cluster analysis were used to assess epidemic features and identify high-risk areas for HFMD. Time-series cross-correlation function and regression model were used to explore the relationship between the ratios of two types of viruses (i.e. EV71/Cox16) (EC) and severe cases index (i.e. severe cases/non-severe cases) (SI) of HFMD. Results Some counties in Dingxi City, Gansu were identified as a hot spot for the temporal risk indices.
