1. Conversation from antiferromagnetic MnBr2 to ferromagnetic Mn3Br8 monolayer with large MAE

Abstract

Abstract A pressing need in low energy spintronics is two-dimensional (2D) ferromagnets with Curie temperature above the liquid-nitrogen temperature (77 K), and sizeable magnetic anisotropy. We studied Mn3Br8 monolayer which is obtained via inducing Mn vacancy at 1/4 population in MnBr2 monolayer. Such defective configuration is designed to change the coordination structure of the Mn-d5 and achieve ferromagnetism with sizeable magnetic anisotropy energy (MAE). Our calculations show that Mn3Br8 monolayer is a ferromagnetic (FM) half-metal with Curie temperature of 130 K, large MAE of − 2.33 meV per formula unit, and atomic magnetic moment of 13/3μB for the Mn atom. Additionally, Mn3Br8 monolayer maintains to be FM under small biaxial strain, whose Curie temperature under 5% compressive strain is 160 K. Additionally, both biaxial strain and carrier doping make the MAE increases, which mainly contributed by the magneto-crystalline anisotropy energy (MCE). Our designed defective structure of MnBr2 monolayer provides a simple but effective way to achieve ferromagnetism with large MAE in 2D materials.

Abstract

Perfect absorption can be obtained for a single port device, or a device with multiple incident beams, but for multiport devices, the absorption is limited to around 50%. In this work, Rao et al. overcome this limitation, demonstrating near perfect absorption in a two port cavity magnon system.

3. Generation of Polarization-Locked Vector Solitons in Mode-Locked Thulium Fiber Laser

Abstract

In this paper, we report polarization-locked vector soliton (PLVS) generation in a linear thulium-doped fiber laser. The fiber laser was composed of all-anomalous-dispersion fibers, passively mode-locked with a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror. Approximately 1.2-ps single vector soliton pulses centered at 2023.7 nm were generated. Extra “peak-dip” spectral sidebands were clearly visible in the polarization-resolved optical spectra, indicating coherent energy exchange between the two polarization components of the vector solitons. In addition, multiple-PLVS operation modes were experimentally investigated, and our experimental results were confirmed by numerical simulations. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first observation of polarization-locked single vector soliton generation operating in the 2-μm spectral range.

Abstract

We report on a high-peak-power acousto-optically Q-switched Er:Y2O3 ceramic laser operating at room temperature. Stable pulses with a duration of 41-190 ns (FWHM) are generated at approximately 2.7 μm with the repetition rate varying from 0.3 to 10 kHz. The peak power at 0.3-kHz repetition rate is approximately 7.3 kW. An average output power of over 320 mW is generated at a repetition rate of 10 kHz using an output coupler with a transmission of 8%.

5. The ferromagnetic resonance in WxMo1−x/YIG heterostructures

Abstract

The effective spin mixing conductance Gmixeff in WxMo1−x (WMo)/Y3Fe5O12 (YIG) heterostructure has been studied by the measurements of electron spin resonance and spin pumping technique which are based on the ferromagnetic resonance (FMR). It is interesting to find that the FMR linewidth for both YIG single layer and WMo/YIG heterostructures shows twofold and fourfold symmetry contributions although Gmixeff exhibits isotropic feature. The Gmixeff and resistivity ρ present a maximum and minimum value at x = 0.42 for WxMo1−x/YIG heterostructures, respectively, which could be ascribed to the complex phase constituents of the alloy films. This work emphasized that the consistent measurement orientation of YIG single layer and WMo/YIG heterostructures should be strictly obeyed to get the accurate Gmixeff owing to the anisotropic feature of in-plane FMR linewidth, which has always been ignored. Proper alloyed Mo could adjust the spin current related phenomenon of W based alloys, to achieve the high efficiency of spin current production from the large effective spin mixing conductance.

6. The tunneling magnetoresistance current dependence on cross sectional area, angle and temperature

Abstract

The magnetoresistance of a MgO-based magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ) was studied experimentally. The magnetoresistance as a function of current was measured systematically on MTJs for various MgO cross sectional areas and at various temperatures from 7.5 to 290.1 K. The resistance current dependence of the MTJ was also measured for different angles between the two ferromagnetic layers. By considering particle and angular momentum conservation of transport electrons, the current dependence of magnetoresistance can be explained by the changing of spin polarization in the free magnetic layer of the MTJ. The changing of spin polarization is related to the magnetoresistance, its angular dependence and the threshold current where TMR ratio equals zero. A phenomenological model is used which avoid the complicated barrier details and also describes the data.

7. Level attraction and level repulsion of magnon coupled with a cavity anti-resonance

Abstract

We report on coherent and dissipative coupling between a magnon mode and an anti-resonance of transmission in a cylindrical microwave cavity. By effectively suppressing coherent coupling, we observe the hybridized dispersion to change from level repulsion to level attraction. A careful examination reveals distinct differences in the line shape and phase evolution of transmission spectra between these coupling behaviors. For a quantitative understanding of the interactions between the magnon mode and the cavity anti-resonance, we develop a model which precisely describes our experimental observations, particularly, the signature in the line shape and phase of the microwave transmission. Our work sets a foundation for understanding strong coupling between magnon modes and cavity anti-resonances. In addition, it also confirms the ubiquity of level attraction in coupled magnon-photon systems, which may be helpful to develop future magnon-based hybrid quantum systems.

Abstract

Current-induced spin torques provide efficient data writing approaches for magnetic memories. Recently, the spin splitting torque (SST) was theoretically predicted (R. Gonz\'alez-Hern\'andez et al. Phys. Rev. Lett. 126, 127701 (2021)), which combines advantages of conventional spin transfer torque (STT) and spin-orbit torque (SOT) as well as enables controllable spin polarization. Here we provide the experimental evidence of SST in collinear antiferromagnet RuO2 films. The spin current direction is found to be correlated to the crystal orientation of RuO2 and the spin polarization direction is dependent on (parallel to) the N\'eel vector. These features are quite characteristic for the predicted SST. Our finding not only present a new member for the spin torques besides traditional STT and SOT, but also proposes a promising spin source RuO2 for spintronics., Comment: 18 pages, 4 figures, accepted by Phys. Abstract

Bi(1+x)Fe0.95Mn0.05O3 thin films with different bismuth contents (abbreviated as B1+xFMO, x = − 0.05, 0, 0.05, 0.1) were fabricated by chemical solution deposition on ITO/glass substrates. The effects of Bi nonstoichiometry on the microstructure, leakage current, ferroelectric and dielectric properties of BFMO films are investigated. The B1.05FMO and B1.1FMO thin films possess single perovskite structure, while the secondary phase of Bi2Fe4O9 can be observed in BFMO and B0.95FMO thin films. Compared with the other three samples in this work, drastically reduced leakage current can be found in B1.05FMO. For each film, the dominant conduction mechanisms are the Ohmic conduction and the space charge limited conduction at lower electric fields and the interface-limited Fowler–Nordheim tunneling at higher electric regions, respectively. Among the B1+xFMO films (x = − 0.05, 0, 0.05, 0.1), the B1.05FMO film possesses significantly improved electrical properties, reflected by a large remanent polarization (Pr ~ 68.3 µC/cm2), lower dielectric loss (tanδ ~ 0.02), large dielectric constant (er ~ 210) and high tunability (88%). These results suggest that the 5 mol% excess of Bi is the prior content to get better insulation, optimize ferroelectric as well as dielectric properties of BiFeO3 film, giving reference to modify electrical performances of ferroelectric materials through regulation of volatile element.

11. METTL14 regulates M6A methylation-modified primary miR-19a to promote cardiovascular endothelial cell proliferation and invasion

Abstract

Increasing evidence indicated that N6-methyl-adenosine (M6A) played a key role in a variety of pathophysiological processes. Methylases could promote the processing of mature mi-RNA in a M6A-dependent manner, thereby participating in the pathological cells' occurrence and development. However, the regulatory mechanism of M6A in atherosclerosis (AS) was still unclear.Quantificational Real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was used to detect the relative expression levels of M6A, methyltransferase, demethylase transferase, miR-19a and other mi-RNA in atherosclerotic vascular endothelial cells (ASVEC). Cell Counting Kit (CCK8) was used to detect cell proliferation, the expression of PCNA was measured by Western Blot (WB) and qRT-PCR. Transwell assays were used to detect the invasion ability of ASVEC. Co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP) was used to detect the binding of METTL14 to DGCR8. RNA Immunoprecipitation (RIP) was used to detect the binding of METTL14 to miR-19a.M6A modification levels and METTL14 methylation transferase were significantly overexpressed in ASVEC. Silencing METTL14 inhibited the proliferation and invasion of ASVEC. Low expression of METTL14 suppressed the binding of methylated RNA and RNA splicing related protein DGCR8. Moreover, silencing METTL14 significantly inhibited the expression of miR-19a while promoted the expression of primary pre-miR-19a. However, high expression of METTL14 obviously increased the expression of DGCR8 and methylated m6A. Furthermore, silencing miR-19a inhibited the proliferation and invasion of ASVEC.METTL14 increased the M6A modification of pri-miR-19a and promoted the processing of mature miR-19a, thus promoting the proliferation and invasion of ASVEC. These results suggested that METTL14/ M6A/ miR-19a signaling pathway may be a new target for atherosclerosis treatment.

Abstract

A partial-wave analysis of the reaction π − p → η η π − p at 18 GeV/c has been performed on a data sample of approximately 4000 events obtained by Brookhaven experiment E852. The J P C = 0 − + π ( 1800 ) state is observed in the a 0 ( 980 ) η and f 0 ( 1500 ) π decay modes. It has a mass of 1876 ± 18 ± 16 MeV / c 2 and a width of 221 ± 26 ± 38 MeV / c 2 . The J P C = 2 − + π 2 ( 1880 ) meson is observed decaying through a 2 ( 1320 ) η . It has a mass of 1929 ± 24 ± 18 MeV / c 2 and a width of 323 ± 87 ± 43 MeV / c 2 . Both states are potential candidates for non-exotic hybrid mesons.

The status of spin-exotic mesons is reviewed. There is now compelling evidence for at least three π1 states between one and two GeV. Preliminary results from the reaction π−p → π+π+π−π−π0p show structure in the exotic waves corresponding to IGJPC = 0−2+−.

Abstract

This Letter reports results from the partial wave analysis of the π−π−π+η final state in π−p collisions at 18 GeV /c . Strong evidence is observed for production of two mesons with exotic quantum numbers of spin, parity and charge conjugation, JPC=1−+ in the decay channel f1(1285)π−. The mass M=1709±24±41 MeV /c 2 and width Γ=403±80±115 MeV /c 2 of the first state are consistent with the parameters of the previously observed π1(1600). The second resonance with mass M=2001±30±92 MeV /c 2 and width Γ=333±52±49 MeV /c 2 agrees very well with predictions from theoretical models. In addition, the presence of π2(1900) is confirmed with mass M=2003±88±148 MeV /c 2 and width Γ=306±132±121 MeV /c 2 and a new state, a1(2096), is observed with mass M=2096±17±121 MeV /c 2 and width Γ=451±41±81 MeV /c 2 . The decay properties of these last two states are consistent with flux tube model predictions for hybrid mesons with non-exotic quantum numbers.

Abstract

To explore the value of morphological classification in predicting malignant transformation in multiple exostoses (ME).The imaging data of 116 patients (totally 190 tumors) with ME were retrospectively analyzed. All the tumors were pathology confirmed after surgical resection, including 175 exostoses from 101 patients, and 15 exostotic chondrosarcomas in 15 cases. Based on the ratio of diameter between tumor tip and tumor base (R1), tumors were classified into two types: cauliflower-like tumor (R1 ≥ 1.0) and non-cauliflower-like tumor (R11.0). In addition, non-cauliflower-like tumors were further classified into two subtypes according to the ratio of tumor height to tumor base diameter: sessile type (R21.0) and pedunculated type (R2 ≥ 1.0). The relationship between tumor shape and malignant transformation was studied.Of all the 175 exostoses from 101 patients, 27 were cauliflower-like tumors and 148 were non-cauliflower-like tumors. Of all the 15 exostotic chondrosarcomas in 15 cases, most tumors were cauliflower-like (c2 = 38.0075, p0.05). Cauliflower-like tumor for the prediction of exostotic chondrosarcoma, the sensibility, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value were 86.7%, 84.6%, 32.5%, 98.7%, respectively.Tumor malignant transformation was more common in cauliflower-like tumors than in non-cauliflower-like tumors. The morphological classification and preventive resection of cauliflower-like tumors maybe helpful in preventing the malignant transformation of ME.

Abstract

An amplitude analysis of an exclusive sample of 5765 events from the reaction {pi}{sup -}p{yields}{eta}{prime}{pi}{sup -}p at 18 GeV/c is described. The {eta}{prime}{pi}{sup -} production is dominated by natural parity exchange and by three partial waves: those with J{sup PC}=1{sup -+} , 2{sup ++} , and 4{sup ++} . A mass-dependent analysis of the partial-wave amplitudes indicates the production of the a{sub 2}(1320) meson as well as the a{sub 4}(2040) meson, observed for the first time decaying to {eta}{prime}{pi}{sup -} . The dominant, exotic (non-q{bar q}) 1{sup -+} partial wave is shown to be resonant with a mass of 1.597{+-}0.010{sup +0.045}{sub -0.010} GeV/c{sup 2} and a width of 0.340{+-}0.040{+-}0.050 GeV /c{sup 2} . This exotic state, the {pi}{sub 1}(1600) , is produced with a t dependence which is different from that of the a{sub 2}(1320) meson, indicating differences between the production mechanisms for the two states.

Abstract

Purely leptonic decays of the charged D meson have been studied using the reaction e + e − →D ∗+ D − at a center of mass energy of 4.03 GeV. A search was performed for D→μνμ recoiling against a D0 or D+ which had been reconstructed from its hadronic decay products. A single event candidate was found in the reaction e + e − →D ∗+ D − , where D ∗+ →π + D 0 with the D0→K−π+, and the recoiling D− decaying via D − →μ − ν μ . This yields a branching fraction value B(D→μνμ)=0.08−0.05−0.02+0.16+0.05%, and a corresponding value of the pseudoscalar decay constant fD=300−150−40+180+80 MeV.

Abstract

The absolute inclusive branching fraction of D_s^+→φX^+ has been measured from data collected by the BES detector at a center-of-mass energy of 4.03 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 22.3 pb^(-1). At this energy, direct pair production e^+e^-→D_s^+D_s^- has been observed. We have selected D_s candidate events by reconstructing five hadronic decay modes D_s^+→φπ^+, K^(0*)K^+, K^0K^+, f0^(π+) and K^0K^-π^+π^+ and have searched for inclusive φ’s in the recoiling D_s^-. We observed three recoiling φ’s in the 166.4 ± 31.8 D_s candidate events, which leads to the absolute branching fraction B(D_s^+→φX^+)=(17.8(-7.2 -6.3)^(+15.1+0.6)) % and B(D_s-6.3+→φπ-6.3+)=(3.6_(-1.6 -1.3)(^_3.1+0.4) %. Abstract

The Beijing Spectrometer (BES) Collaboration has observed exclusive pair production of D_s mesons at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider (BEPC) at a center-of-mass energy of 4.03 GeV. The D_s mesons are detected in the φπ^+, K¯^(*0)K^+, and K¯^0K^+ decay modes; two fully reconstructed events yield the value (3.9_(-1.9-1.1)^(+5.1+1.8))% for the D_s branching fraction to φπ. This is the first direct, model-independent measurement of this quantity.

Abstract

The cross sections for e+e− → hadrons, e+e−, μ+μ− have been measured in the vicinity of the J Ψ resonance using the BES detector operated at BEPC. The partial widths for J Ψ to hadrons, electrons, muons and the total width have been determined to be Γh = 74.1 ± 8.1 keV, Γe = 5.14 ± 0.39 keV, Γμ = 5.13 ± 0.52 keV, and Γ = 84.4 ± 8.9 keV, respectively.

Abstract

Micron-sized rectangular ferromagnetic bars have a variety of spin excitations, including a quasi-uniform mode, horizontal and vertical standing spin-wave modes, and edge and corner modes. When driven by a strong microwave field, these modes differ from those found in the linear regime. For example, the resonance field or frequency becomes amplitude dependent. We study the nonlinear spin dynamics in such microstrips, both experimentally and theoretically, for a geometry where the static magnetic field is perpendicular to the plane of the sample. Experimentally, it is found that, at a fixed microwave frequency, the resonance field for the uniform mode is significantly reduced as the microwave power is increased. In contrast, the resonance fields for the standing horizontal spin-wave modes are only slightly reduced. This behavior is confirmed theoretically using micromagnetic calculations, and an intuitive explanation for this behavior is developed.

Abstract

This work reviews and examines two particular issues related with the new technique of electrical detection of ferromagnetic resonance (FMR). This powerful technique has been broadly applied for studying magnetization and spin dynamics over the past ten years. The first issue is the relation and distinction between different mechanisms that give rise to a photovoltage via FMR in spintronic devices, and the second is the proper analysis of the FMR line shape, which has become the ``Achilles heel'' in interpreting experimental results, especially for either studying the spin pumping effect or quantifying spin Hall angles via the electrically detected FMR.

Abstract

The mass of the \ensuremath{\tau} lepton has been measured at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider using the Beijing Spectrometer. A search near threshold for ${\mathit{e}}^{+}$${\mathit{e}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}}$\ensuremath{\rightarrow}${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\tau}}}^{+}$${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\tau}}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}}$ was performed. Candidate events were identified by requiring that one \ensuremath{\tau} decay via \ensuremath{\tau}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}e\ensuremath{\nu}\ensuremath{\nu}\ifmmode\bar\else\textasciimacron\fi{}, and the other via \ensuremath{\tau}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\nu}\ensuremath{\nu}\ifmmode\bar\else\textasciimacron\fi{}. The mass value, obtained from a fit to the energy dependence of the ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\tau}}}^{+}$${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\tau}}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}}$ cross section, is ${\mathit{m}}_{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\tau}}}$=1776.${9}_{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}0.5}^{+0.4}$\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.2 MeV.

Abstract

The Beijing Spectrometer (BES) experiment has observed purely leptonic decays of the D_s meson in the reaction e^+e^-→D_s^+D_s^- at a c.m. energy of 4.03 GeV. Three events are observed in which one D_s decays hadronically to φπ, K̅ ^(*0)K, or K̅^0K, and the other decays leptonically to μν_μ or τν_τ. With the assumption of μ-τ universality, values of the branching fraction, B(D_s→μν_μ) = (1.5_(-0.6-0.2)^(+1.3+0.3))%, and the D_s pseudoscalar decay constant, f_D_s = (4.3_(-1.3-0.4)^(+1.5+0.4))×10^2 MeV, are obtained.

Abstract

We present our observations of the optical intra-day variability (IDV) in γ-ray BL Lac object Mrk 501. The observations were run with the 1.02 m and 2.4 m optical telescopes at Yunnan Observatories from 2005 April to 2012 May. The light curve at the R band on 2010 May 15 passes both variability tests (the F-test and the ANOVA test). A flare within the light curve on 2010 May 15 has a magnitude change of mag, a darkening timescale of minutes, and an amplitude of IDV . A decline described by 11 consecutive flux measurements within the flare can be fitted linearly with a Pearson’s correlation coefficient r = 0.945 at the confidence level of . Under the assumptions that the IDV is tightly connected to the mass of the black hole, and that the flare duration, being two times , is representative of the minimum characteristic timescale, we can derive upper bounds to the mass of the black hole. In the case of the Kerr black hole, the timescale of hr gives , which is consistent with measurements reported in the literature. Abstract

A short-duration gamma-ray burst was detected along with a double neutron start merger gravitational wave by LIGO-Virgo on August 17th 2017. Here, the authors show that the fluence and spectral peak energy of this event fall into the lower portion of the distribution of known short-duration gamma-ray bursts.
