11. Partially carbonized wastepaper with excellent mechanical strength for oil-water and emulsion separation

Abstract

Background Taking the treatment of oily sewage and the recycling of wastepaper as the starting point, the idea of using waste to treat waste was used to treat the swage with aerogels made of wastepaper. Methods Porous ultralight Fe-functionalized cellulose carbon aerogels (CPFe) were synthesized using wastepaper as raw material through FeCl3 impregnation and low-temperature carbonization. Findings CPFe aerogels exhibit excellent physicochemical properties, such as: low density (0.0284 g/cm3), high porosity (97.32%), and selective absorption capacity for various oil products. The absorption capacity of chloroform reached 62.8 g/g. In addition, it exhibits excellent capacity in emulsion separation for both o/w and w/o types. Droplet size of w/o emulsion reduced by two orders of magnitude. CPFe aerogel is a low-cost, renewable, environmentally friendly material and suitable for large-scale production. 13. Enhanced gas sensing property of Co3O4matrix nanocomposites with halloysite nanotubes toward triethylamine

Abstract

Despite their high surface reactivity, the gas sensor based on Co3O4nanoparticles frequently suffers from a low response to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) due to high-temperature sintering and inefficient resistance modulation. Herein, halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) were incorporated as the additive into the Co3O4nanoparticle matrix to enhance the sensing property toward VOCs in terms of gas response (Rg/Ra) and operation stability. Co3O4nanoparticles intimately attached on HNTs were achieved by a facile deposition-precipitation method followed by calcination. The best-performing Co3O4/0.3HNTs-based sensor had a high gas response of 22.9 to 50 ppm triethylamine at 240 °C, which was 4.9 times than that of Co3O4alone. The enhanced sensitivity could be attributed to the HNT incorporation that facilitated effective resistance modulation, surface property tuning, as well as surface defect formation. These results bring new insight into an enhancement of gas sensing property of a p-type metal oxide with insensitive materials. They also provide a potential to expand the application of aluminosilicate clays to gas sensors.

Abstract

The PbVOF crystal was synthesized by hydrothermal method. The crystal structure consists of tetranuclear [PbOF] and twinborn VOF units, which share the O and F atoms forming a three-dimensional framework. The birefringence of the compound was investigated using the first principles. The calculations results show that the compound has a large birefringence of 0.336 at 1064 nm. Researches indicate that its large birefringence originates mainly from the distorted VOF groups based on the real-space atom-cutting method and structure-property relationships analysis. Furthermore, the IR spectrum, thermal behaviors, and UV-Vis-IR diffuse reflectance spectroscopy of the compound are also presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

22. TiO 2 /Fe 2 O 3 heterostructures with enhanced photocatalytic reduction of Cr(vi) under visible light irradiation.

Abstract

We report a study on the synthesis of TiO 2 /Fe 2 O 3 (TF) nanocomposites and their photocatalytic performance under visible-light irradiation. The characterization of structure and morphology shows that hematite Fe 2 O 3 was deposited on anatase TiO 2 nanoparticles with particle sizes in the range of 20-100 nm. In contrast to pure TiO 2 and pure Fe 2 O 3 , the nanocomposites exhibited remarkable photocatalytic activity. For example, the photoreduction efficiency of TF0.5 reaches 100% for a 100 ppm Cr(vi) solution within 160 minutes. The photochemical properties were studied by various methods. Finally, we conclude that the excellent performance of the photocatalysts is mainly attributed to two aspects: the enhanced absorption of visible light and the synergistic effect of an internal electric field at the heterojunction and citric acid for promoting the separation of electron-hole pairs., Competing Interests: There are no conflicts to declare., (This journal is © The Royal Society of Chemistry.)
