BACKGROUND: Preventing progression to moderate or severe opioid use disorder (OUD) among people who exhibit risky opioid use behavior that does not meet criteria for treatment with opioid agonists or antagonists (subthreshold OUD) is poorly understood. The Subthreshold Opioid Use Disorder Prevention (STOP) Trial is designed to study the efficacy of a collaborative care intervention to reduce risky opioid use and to prevent progression to moderate or severe OUD in adult primary care patients with subthreshold OUD. METHODS: The STOP trial is a cluster randomized controlled trial, randomized at the PCP level, conducted in 5 distinct geographic sites. STOP tests the efficacy of the STOP intervention in comparison to enhanced usual care (EUC) in adult primary care patients with risky opioid use that does not meet criteria for moderate-severe OUD. The STOP intervention consists of (1) a practice-embedded nurse care manager (NCM) who provides patient participant education and supports primary care providers (PCPs) in engaging and monitoring patient-participants; (2) brief advice, delivered to patient participants by their PCP and/or prerecorded video message, about health risks of opioid misuse; and (3) up to 6 sessions of telephone health coaching to motivate and support behavior change. EUC consists of primary care treatment as usual, plus printed overdose prevention educational materials and an educational video on cancer screening. The primary outcome measure is self-reported number of days of risky (illicit or nonmedical) opioid use over 180 days, assessed monthly via text message using items from the Addiction Severity Index and the Current Opioid Misuse Measure. Secondary outcomes assess other substance use, mental health, quality of life, and healthcare utilization as well as PCP prescribing and monitoring behaviors. A mixed effects negative binomial model with a log link will be fit to estimate the difference in means between treatment and control groups using an intent-to-treat population. DISCUSSION: Given a growing interest in interventions for the management of patients with risky opioid use, and the need for primary care-based interventions, this study potentially offers a blueprint for a feasible and effective approach to improving outcomes in this population. Abstract Rice is a staple food for over half of the global population, necessitates efficient and cost-effective production methods to ensure food security. However, direct seeding of rice often encounters challenges due to adverse environmental conditions, resulting in increased seeding costs. In this study, we analyzed the germination and physiological data of sixty-six rice varieties under cold and submergence conditions. Our results demonstrate that selecting rice varieties with superior germination capacity in these adverse conditions can improve germination rates by 39.43%. Transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses of two contrasting varieties revealed potential regulatory mechanisms involving hormonal pathways and the glycerophospholipid metabolism pathway. Furthermore, we found that the exogenous application of specific metabolites provides a cost-effective seed enhancement strategy for varieties with poor germination capacity. These findings suggest that combining suitable variety selection with seed enhancement treatments can significantly reduce seeding costs in rice production. This research offers valuable insights for developing resilient rice varieties and cost-effective seeding strategies, potentially contributing to improved rice cultivation practices and enhanced global food security.

This study investigated the effects of the addition of Tremella fuciformis polysaccharides on the zeta potential, particle size, contact angle, storage stability, and rheological properties of curcumin-loaded Pickering emulsion. The results showed that the Pickering emulsion stabilized by T. fuciformis polysaccharides had good stability; its particle size decreased from (8.631 ± 0.057) to (6.031 ± 0.056) μm and its zeta potential increased (–51.60 ± 1.51) to (–65.16 ± 0.59) mV with increasing addition of T. fuciformis polysaccharides from 65% to 85% (V/V), showing improved storage stability. The retention rate of curcumin in the Pickering emulsion with 85% T. fuciformis polysaccharides was more than 80% after 21 days of storage. The rheological results showed that all emulsions exhibited weak gel properties and shear-thinning characteristics. As oil-in-water emulsions, they showed a contact angle of less than 90°. The emulsion retained more than 80% curcumin after heat treatment at 65 ℃. Meanwhile, the emulsion had antibacterial activity against both Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The results of this study provide a theoretical reference for the development of new Pickering emulsions with T. fuciformis polysaccharides.

Abstract Background Retroperitoneal liposarcoma (RLPS) constitutes the majority of retroperitoneal sarcomas. While surgical resection remains the sole curative approach, determining the optimal surgical strategy for RLPS remains elusive. This study addresses the ongoing debate surrounding the optimal surgical strategy for RLPS. Methods We recruited 77 patients with RLPS who underwent aggressive surgical policies. Patients were categorized into three surgical subtypes: suprapancreatic RLPS, pancreatic RLPS, and subpancreatic RLPS. Our standardized surgical strategy involved resecting macroscopically uninvolved adjacent organs according to surgical subtypes. We collected clinical, pathological and prognostic data for analyses. Results The median follow-up was 45.5 months. Abstract Background Leiomyosarcoma is a tumor that can develop in any organ that contains smooth muscles. Although leiomyosarcoma is common, its epididymal localization is quite rare. Case presentation A 79-year-old male Chinese Han patient presented with mild pain in the right groin and scrotum for 3 years concomitant with right scrotal swelling. Ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging of the scrotum showed a irregular and heterogeneous mass that was extratesticular. Right high orchiectomy was performed, and pathological examination of the resected specimen confirmed the diagnosis of leiomyosarcoma of the epididymis with surgical margins clear of tumor. Conclusion Epididymal leiomyosarcoma is rare and difficult to diagnose preoperatively. The final diagnosis of epididymal leiomyosarcoma requires histologic examination. Resection must be extensive and complete. The effect of chemotherapy and radiation on the epididymal leiomyosarcoma remains unclear. Recurrence is common, so follow-up is necessary.

Chaohu Lake is a representative lake in China that suffers from severe eutrophication and algal blooms. Understanding the changes in the lake’s eutrophic condition over time is essential for its restoration and management under the background of global changes and regional sustainability. In this context, the compositions of carbon and nitrogen isotopes (δ 13Corg and δ 15N, respectively), total organic carbon (TOC), total nitrogen (TN), and carbon–nitrogen ratio (C/N) were analysed to depict the history of eutrophic state of Chaohu Lake, and its relationship with environmental changes. The result show that before the 1950s, the primary productivity of the lake was low. During the period from the 1950s to the 1970s, primary productivity increased substantially due to eutrophication. From the 1970s to the present, as a result of the construction of the Chaohu Floodgate Station, water replacement in the semi-closed Chaohu Lake gradually slowed and nutrients began to accumulate more rapidly. These conditions led to enhanced lake productivity and rapid eutrophication, mainly caused by intensified human activities and increased exogenous inputs. Our findings suggest that the geochemical records (δ 13Corg, δ 15N, TOC, TN, and C/N ratios) in sediment for Chaohu Lake are capable of recording important shifts in the temporal evolution of lake-water trophic state.

Abstract There are no targeted rehabilitation training modalities and assessment tools for patients after transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy vestibular approach (TOETVA). Herein, we develop a new assessment questionnaire and rehabilitation training modality and evaluate its safety and effectiveness. The THYCA-QoL-TOETVA questionnaire was compiled, and reliability and validity analyses were performed. Patients were divided into the new rehabilitation training group (N) or the conventional rehabilitation training group (C), and 1:1 propensity score matching (PSM) was performed after administering questionnaires to patients in both groups. Cervical range of motion (CROM) data were also measured and collected for statistical analysis. The questionnaire used in this study showed good expert authority, coordination, internal consistency, and questionnaire reliability. A total of 476 patients were included after PSM, and the questionnaire results showed that recovery and quality of life were better in the N group than in the C group (124.55 ± 8.171 vs. 122.94 ± 8.366, p = 0.026). Abstract Short videos have become a powerful medium in health communication. This study explores the information needs and satisfaction of Chinese urban youth regarding short health videos, guided by the KANO model. The research was conducted in four stages: text mining, online survey, demand analysis, and emotional strategy analysis. During the text mining stage, we used GooSeeker software to extract 26,108 health-tagged short video entries from Douyin and identified 21 unique themes through a collinear network analysis. In the online survey stage, we gathered data on urban youth’s preferences for these themes. Using the KANO model and Better-Worse analysis in the demand analysis stage, we categorized health video demands and gained insights into the preferred content. In the emotional strategy analysis stage, we examined how different emotional strategies like appeals to fear and hope influenced content effectiveness. Findings show that content related to health science, tea drinking, popular news, and food safety significantly enhances satisfaction. Conversely, information on refuting rumors, epidemic prevention, and control, as well as authoritative views, tends to lower satisfaction, possibly due to a trust crisis caused by a mismatch between demand and supply. This study suggests that content creators can boost engagement and satisfaction by focusing on preferred themes. It also highlights the varying impacts of information sources and emotional strategies on the health video preferences of Chinese urban youth. The insights from this research provide a foundation for user-centric content creation and platform development in health communication.

Abstract The rising sentiment challenges of the metropolitan residents may be attributed to the extreme temperatures. However, nationwide real-time empirical studies that examine this claim are rare. In this research, we construct a daily extreme temperature index and sentiment metric using geotagged posts on one of China's largest social media sites, Weibo, to verify this hypothesis. We find that extreme temperatures causally decrease individuals' sentiment, and extremely low temperature may decrease more than extremely high temperature. Heterogeneity analyses reveal that individuals living in high levels of PM2.5, existing new COVID-19 diagnoses and low-disposable income cities on workdays are more vulnerable to the impact of extreme temperatures on sentiment. More importantly, the results also demonstrate that the adverse effects of extremely low temperatures on sentiment are more minor for people living in northern cities with breezes. Finally, we estimate that with a one-standard increase of extremely high (low) temperature, the sentiment decreases by approximately 0.161 (0.272) units. Employing social media to monitor public sentiment can assist policymakers in developing data-driven and evidence-based policies to alleviate the adverse impacts of extreme temperatures.
