Abstract

MXenes, a new family of two-dimensional materials, are also known as transition metal carbides and nitride, with a general formula of Mn+1XnTx (n = 1–3). Their inherent metallic conductivity and hydrophilic nature endow MXenes with fascinating physicochemical properties (optical, electronic, magnetic, light-to-heat conversion. etc.). The ultrathin layer structure and photothermal property attract many interests in biomedical applications, especially as phototherapeutic agents for cancer treatment. In this review, we summarize the recent progress of MXenes in the field of photothermal therapy and highlight the crucial biotic index for their preparation and evaluation. First, we introduce the main strategies for the preparation and surface modifications of biologically applied MXenes. Then, representative cases in the field of MXene-based photothermal application, such as photothermal therapy, synergistic therapy, and targeting treatments, are reviewed. Finally, the cytotoxicity and in vivo long-term biosafety are introduced. We also propose the underlying challenges and perspectives for MXene applications in terms of photothermal therapy.

24. A Robust Cu Catalyst for Low-Temperature CO Oxidation in Flue Gas: Mitigating Deactivation via Co-Doping

Abstract

CuCeTiOx (CCT) catalyst is considered as a promising prospect attributable to their high activity for low-temperature CO oxidation. However, rapid deactivation when treating humid flue gas hindered their industrial exploitation. The hydroxide ion (OH−) dissociated from H2O, and carbonate intermediates derived from CO/CO2 deposited on the catalyst surface of CCT catalyst, inhibits the CO oxidation by surface oxygen on active sites. In this study, the detrimental effect caused by H2O and CO2 were evaluated, and the performance of CCT catalysts were investigated and compared using in situ DRIFTs study. Further, intentional doping on the CCT using transition metal (e.g., Co and Mn) was performed to mitigate the catalyst deactivation caused by H2O and CO2. The incorporation of cobalt in Co-CCT altered the reaction pathway and mitigated the deactivation via enhancing the consumption of surface adsorbed OH- by CO, reducing the occupancy of active sites. Also, preferential adsorption of CO further suppressed the competition of OH- and CO2 towards active sites on catalyst attributable to the abundant oxygen vacancies and low coordinated metal (i.e., Cu+, Ce3+) in Co-CCT, which significantly enhanced the resistance to H2O and CO2 in the flue gas. This work thoroughly analyzed the mechanism of H2O and CO2 impacting the catalyst activity during low-temperature CO oxidation, is able to provide innovative insights for the design of highly-active and long-shelf life catalysts. Abstract

An ultra-performance liquid chromatography/time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC/QTOF/MS) method was established to analyze the saponins in Rhizoma Paridis saponins (RPS) and the constituents in urinary and feces samples. As we know, the constituents of traditional Chinese medicines are very complex and pre-clinical research including metabolism, excretion and pharmacokinetics of herbal medicine components are of great importance in understanding their biological effects and safety. Therefore, deduction of the metabolic and excretive processes of RPS are necessary. As a result, twenty-two original saponins were detected in RPS-treated urinary and feces. Four excreta were observed in rat feces. Abstract

Fourteen compounds were isolated from the rhizome of Trillium tschonoskii Maxim. By spectroscopic analysis, these compounds were established as Gracillin (1), Paris saponins V (2), Paris saponins VI (3), Paris saponins H (4), Paris saponins VII (5), (25R)-17α-hydroxy-5-en-3-O-a-L-arabinofuranosyl-(1→2)-β-Dglucopyranoside (6), (25R)-26-[β-D-glucopyanosyl]-17α,22β-dihydroxy-5-en-3-O-a-L-rhamnopyranosyl- (1→2)-β-D-glucopyranoside (7), Kaempferol-3-O-β-D-rutinoside (8), Quercetin (9), Quercetin-3-O-β-D-galactoside (10), Daucosterol (11), Stigmasterol-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (12), 3, 5-Di-O-caffeoyl quinic acid (13), and n-Hexadecanoic acid (14). By GC-MS analysis of the CH2Cl2 extract from Trillium tschonoskii Maxim, twenty compouns were identified, representing 91 % of the area. Abstract

Furfural compounds, including 5-hydroxymethylfurfural, furfural, and 5-methylfurfural, are common in foods and pose health risks. This study presents a pipette-tip solid-phase extraction with in-situ derivatization (PT-KF-SPE/ISD) method for rapid analysis of furfural compounds in various food matrices. Utilizing natural kapok fiber as an efficient adsorbent, this method integrates extraction and derivatization into a single step via a simple pull-push operation. Derivatization with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine increases the hydrophobicity and ultraviolet absorption of furfural compounds, enabling sensitive liquid chromatography-ultraviolet detection. The method shows good linearity, sensitivity, and reproducibility, with limits of detection in ranges of 3.9-6.0 ng/mL. Real sample analysis confirms its applicability in detecting furfural compounds in beverages and herbal products, offering a reliable and eco-friendly solution for food safety and quality control. Five greenness assessment metrics demonstrate the method's excellent environmental friendliness.
