Abstract Background The rapid and widespread development of social networking sites has created a venue for an increase in cyberbullying among adolescents. Protective mechanisms and actions must be considered, such as how proximal family factors can prevent self-harm and suicidal behaviors among adolescents exposed to cyberbullying. The present study examined the associations among cyberbullying, parental attitudes, self-harm, and suicidal behaviors after adjusting for confounding factors. Methods Data were obtained from a school-based survey of randomly selected grade 6 students (11 years old) performed in Hue City, Vietnam, in 2018. A total of 648 students were interviewed face-to-face using a structured questionnaire based on the Global School-based Student Health Survey (GSHS). Univariate, multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed at 95% confidence level. Results After adjusting for gender, perceived academic pressure, unhealthy behaviors, use of Internet devices, school bullying, and family living situation, a significantly higher risk of self-harm was detected among those who had experienced cyberbullying (adjusted odd ratio [AOR] = 2.97; 95% CI, 1.32–6.71). This article evaluates trends in past and projected future climate change at the Mekong Delta. The study is based on updated observation data gathered up to 2014, and the latest climate change scenarios published by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE). The results show that the mean annual temperature increased by 0.3 to 0.9°C, and annual rainfall increased by 5 basis points to 20% at most observation stations during the years 1958-2014. In comparison to the baseline (1986-2005), temperatures were projected to increase by between 1.3 to 1.4°C in the middle of the century and by between 1.7 to 1.9°C at the end of the century, under the medium scenario (RCP4.5). According to the high scenario of RCP8.5, temperatures likely increased by 1.8 to 2°C in the middle of the century and 3.4 to 3.6°C at the end of the century. Annual rainfall is expected to increase from 10 to 20% in the mid-21st century under both RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 scenarios; increase of 30% in a part of the northern Mekong Delta under the RCP8.5 scenario.

This study represents the observed and projected changes in climate extremes in the context of climate change. A linear regression method was used to identify trends and variations of climate extremes in the past, while projected changes in climate extremes were detected based on dynamical downscaling and compared with the baseline period (1986-2005). The results show that daily maximum and minimum surface air temperatures (Txx, Tnn) increased considerably with the highest value of about 0.9oC/decade during the period of 1961-2014. The number of hot days increased across most observed stations, especially in Central Vietnam. Trends of extreme precipitation varied among the regions: decreasing across most stations in the Northwest, Northeast and Red River Delta; and increasing at other stations. In Vietnam, over the period 1959-2015, there were no obvious changes in the frequency of tropical cyclones causing landfall events, including typhoons and tropical depressions. However, the rate of occurrence of the very strongest typhoons are currently on the increase. In recent years, typhoon seasons tend to end later than in the past, and typhoons occur more frequently in Southern regions. Predicted results of climate extremes in the future for the periods 2046-2065 and 2080-2099, compared with the baseline period of 1986-2005 under the medium and high scenario (RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5) show that temperature extremes will likely increase considerably in the future. The number of hot days will likely increase in both frequency and intensity, while the number of extreme cold days will likely decrease at most stations in the North. A maximum 1-day rainfall will also likely increase across all regions in Vietnam. Results from models show that the number of strong typhoons will likely increase in the mid- and late-century.

This study introduces an innovative approach using highly efficient nanocomposite materials to effectively remove PFAS from water, demonstrating remarkable adsorption capabilities. The nanocomposite was synthesized by integrating a zirconium-based metal-organic framework (MOF) called UiO-66 with graphene oxide (GO) within a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) matrix. The resulting PVA@UiO-66/GO material features flower-like UiO-66 MOF crystals embedded in the PVA and GO matrix. Various kinetic models were applied to determine the rate constants and adsorption capacities, with the Langmuir isotherm indicating an adsorption capacity of 9.904 mg/g. Thermodynamic analysis confirmed the process's spontaneity and exothermic nature. The UiO-66-NH 2 /GO/PVA composite also demonstrated high reusability, maintaining substantial PFOA removal efficiency across multiple cycles, with optimal reduction occurring at approximately pH 5. Background: This paper enumerates and characterizes latent classes of adverse childhood experiences and investigates how they relate to prenatal substance use (i.e., smoking, alcohol, and other drugs) and poor infant outcomes (i.e., infant prematurity and low birthweight) across eight low- and middle-income countries (LMICs)., Methods: A total of 1189 mother-infant dyads from the Evidence for Better Lives Study cohort were recruited. Latent class analysis using the Bolck, Croon, and Hagenaars (BCH) 3-step method with auxiliary multilevel logistic regressions was performed., Results: Three high-risk classes and one low-risk class emerged: (1) highly maltreated (7%, n = 89), (2) emotionally and physically abused with intra-familial violence exposure (13%, n = 152), (3), emotionally abused (40%, n = 474), and (4) low household dysfunction and abuse (40%, n = 474). Pairwise comparisons between classes indicate higher probabilities of prenatal drug use in the highly maltreated and emotionally abused classes compared with the low household dysfunction and abuse class. Additionally, the emotionally and physically abused with intra-familial violence exposure class had higher probability of low birthweight than the three remaining classes., Conclusion: Our results highlight the multifaceted nature of ACEs and underline the potential importance of exposure to childhood adversities on behaviors and outcomes in the perinatal period. Background: Hypertension is a direct cardiovascular disease risk. It causes a heavy burden on the healthcare system globally. We aim to assess hypertension occurrence and its associated factors among women and men in Vietnam., Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from January to February 2019 on 2203 community-dwelling women and men aged 18 years or above. Participants' characteristics, comorbidity, behaviors, and physical measures were evaluated. Hypertension was classified as systolic/diastolic blood pressure ≥140/90 mmHg or using antihypertensive medication. We analyzed data using logistic regression models., Results: The prevalence of hypertension was 24.3% (20.9% in women, 29.1% in men). For women, older age (odds ratio, OR, 6.80-12.41; p < 0.001), income above the poverty line (OR, 0.64; p = 0.008), diabetes comorbid (OR, 2.98; p < 0.001), added salts consumption (OR, 1.80; p < 0.001), overweight/obesity (OR, 1.64; p = 0.005), abdominal obesity (OR, 2.07; p < 0.001) were associated with hypertension. For men, older age (OR, 2.67-5.92; p < 0.001), diabetes comorbid (OR, 2.25; p = 0.010), smoking (OR, 1.38; p = 0.046), and overweight/obesity (OR, 2.18; p < 0.001) were associated with hypertension. Background: Unsettled infant behaviours are a common concern for parents internationally, and have been associated with maternal stress, reduced parenting confidence, and postnatal mental health problems among parents. Little information currently exists regarding available support for the parents of unsettled infants in low-and-middle income countries such as Vietnam. We aimed to describe how unsettled infant behaviour was understood and investigated by Vietnamese health professionals, and what health education was provided to parents regarding infant sleep and settling., Methods: This qualitative study elicited the perspectives of Vietnamese health professionals working in Thua Thien Hue Province, Vietnam. A semi-structured interview guide included participant demographics, and questions about providing assistance to the parents of unsettled infants, understandings of unsettled infant behaviour, management of unsettled infant behaviour and health education. Individual interviews or small-group discussions were undertaken in Vietnamese, data were translated and analysed in English. The authors used a thematic approach to analysis, supported by Nvivo software., Results: Nine health professionals (four primary care doctors, one paediatrician and four nurses/midwives) working in urban and rural areas of Thua Thien Hue were interviewed. Four themes were created that reflected the responses to the literature-based interview questions. Health professionals described having received little formal training about infant sleep and settling, thus based their advice on personal experience. Information on infant sleep and settling was not included in health education for new mothers, which focused on breastfeeding and preventing malnutrition. Where advice was given, it was generally based on settling strategies involving high levels of caregiver intervention (holding, rocking, breastfeeding on demand and tolerating frequent overnight wakings) rather than behaviour management style strategies. Participants emphasised the importance of recognising and responding to infant behavioural cues (e.g infants cry when hungry)., Conclusions: There is an unmet need for information on infant sleep and settling for new parents and health professionals in Vietnam. Our findings suggest information for caregivers on how to respond sensitively to infant tired signs should be formally included in the training of health professionals in LALMI settings. Sleep and settling information should also be part of culturally appropriate multi-component maternal and child health interventions aimed at promoting early childhood development.

Schools and colleges of pharmacy in the United States increasingly interact with those in Asian countries for various purposes such as education and research. For both those visiting and those hosting, it is important to understand and respect the culture of the other's country to enrich these interactions. This paper, the second of two manuscripts on Asian countries, focuses on India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and Vietnam. For each country, the following information is provided: general introduction, health care system, pharmacy practice, and pharmacy education, stereotypes and misconceptions, recommendations for US-based health care professionals, faculty members, and students who visit these Asian countries, and recommendations for them to host visitors from these Asian countries. The aim of this paper is to assist US health care professionals, faculty members, and students in initiating and promoting a culturally sensitive engagement.
