BackgroundThe ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is characterized by different morbidity and mortality rates across different states, cities, rural areas, and diverse neighborhoods. The absence of a national strategy for battling the pandemic also leaves state and local governments responsible for creating their own response strategies and policies. ObjectiveThis study examines the content of COVID-19–related tweets posted by public health agencies in Texas and how content characteristics can predict the level of public engagement. MethodsAll COVID-19–related tweets (N=7269) posted by Texas public agencies during the first 6 months of 2020 were classified in terms of each tweet’s functions (whether the tweet provides information, promotes action, or builds community), the preventative measures mentioned, and the health beliefs discussed, by using natural language processing. Hierarchical linear regressions were conducted to explore how tweet content predicted public engagement. ResultsThe information function was the most prominent function, followed by the action or community functions. Beliefs regarding susceptibility, severity, and benefits were the most frequently covered health beliefs. Tweets that served the information or action functions were more likely to be retweeted, while tweets that served the action and community functions were more likely to be liked. Tweets that provided susceptibility information resulted in the most public engagement in terms of the number of retweets and likes. ConclusionsPublic health agencies should continue to use Twitter to disseminate information, promote action, and build communities. They need to improve their strategies for designing social media messages about the benefits of disease prevention behaviors and audiences’ self-efficacy.

The comparison of the Sanim (SN) and Srithong (ST) varieties of the farmed apple snail Pomacea canaliculata as an alternative protein source has shown that ST contained more hydroxyproline and possessed a greater firmness than SN. Nevertheless, both varieties yielded similar protein contents of 20.90–23.07 % and exhibited similar texture, color, cooking yields and cooking losses after cooking. Good palatability with high liking score was obtained from both snail meat samples, particularly color, texture, and overall attributes. Snail meats possessed good nutritive value with an amount of protein and low fat content, whereas SN contained higher protein and total energy(P < 0.05). Other nutritionally useful chemicals (such as calcium, sodium, iron, vitamins B1 and B2) are present. Sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) results discovered that myosin heavy chain, paramyosin, and actin were the prevalent protein components. Differences in nitrogen content distribution were observed between SN and ST, in which alkaline-soluble protein was the major fraction. Amino acid composition and fatty acid content varied regarding snail varieties with a large amount of essential amino acids and good source of MUFA and PUFA. Therefore, both farmed SN and ST snails could be an effective alternative protein source with a significant amount of nutritive value.

Key Clinical Message The primary cause of complex AOB malocclusion is typically a combination of dental, skeletal, functional, and habitual factors. Open bite correction is a challenging treatment due to its complexity and the requirement for long‐term stability, therefore, multidisciplinary treatment is often the best option for achieving stable esthetic outcomes.

This paper aims to estimate the effect of the reliability of financial statements on listed firms’ performance in Vietnam, especially on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange, from 2015 to 2022. Based on International Financial Reporting Standards, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and theories, reliability is a key attribute of information quality in financial statements. Besides, using the quantitative method of feasible generalized least squares (FGLS), the findings show that reliability positively affects listed firms’ performance with a confidence interval of 95%. On the platform of agency theory, the reliability of financial statements is considered a tool to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of managers and the board of directors to external users, while stakeholder theory considers the advantages of the disclosure of reliable financial statements in terms of gaining performance.

This case exemplifies interdisciplinary involvement to ensure the patient received an improved esthetic outcome. Abstract The presence of anterior diastemas may compromise the esthetics of a patient's smile, causing mental, and social trauma in many patients. After careful evaluation Periodontal, surgical, and prosthodontic treatments are sometimes required to ensure successful treatment outcomes using a multidisciplinary staged treatment approach. These approaches must be carefully planned to ensure timely treatment progress. Surgical intervention must be planned at the right point in treatment to ensure adequate healing before placement of esthetic restorations.

Amentotaxus yunnanensis H.L.Li is a threatened conifer distributed only in China, Laos, and Vietnam, whose fungal endophytes have not been exploited yet. The aims of this study were to screen and characterize antioxidant metabolites from endophytic fungi obtained from A. yunnanensis. Using the surface sterilization method, sixteen endophytic fungi were isolated from A. yunnanensis and classified into seven genera including Fusarium, Penicillium, Aspergillus, Diaporthe, Neopestalotiopsis, Purpureocillium, and Simplicillium through the analysis of Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) gene sequences. Among the ethyl acetate crude extracts, Fusarium foetens AQF6 contained the highest amount of polyphenol (117.76 ± 0.94 mg gallic acid equivalent/g) and flavonoid (169.01 ± 2.09 mg quercetin equivalent/g). Importantly, 400 µg/mL AQF6 extract exhibited 95.75 ± 1.1% and 85.66 ± 1.91% of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and hydroxyl radical-scavenging activities, respectively. Chemical investigation led to the isolation and identification of a new bisabolane-type sesquiterpene fusafoetriol (FUS) and 14 known compounds, among which six pure compounds showed free-radical scavenging activity against DPPH and hydroxyl radicals. Under H2O2 stress, the yeast model Saccharomyces cerevisiae treated with 4 mM FUS showed 43.31% increase in viability. FUS has the potential to be applied in nutraceutical, pharmaceutical and food technological applications. Thus, this is the first report demonstrating the presence of endophytic fungi inhabiting A. yunnanensis and their potential as a prolific source of antioxidant metabolites.

The severe gummy smile and a skeletal class II profile pose challenges in treatment. This case report outlines an effective alternative for addressing these problems in a patient with skeletal class II division 2, class II molar relationship, retroclination of upper incisors, and lip protrusion. Treatment objectives included normalizing the overjet and overbite, improving the gummy smile, and establishing a satisfactory occlusion. A three-dimensional simulation was performed to consult with the patient, assess possible results, and predict treatment biomechanics. The treatment involved the use of two zygomatic and one inter-radicular temporary anchorage devices, along with botulinum toxin. After the 2-year follow-up, a satisfactory dental occlusion, aesthetic improvement, and adequate function were achieved. This approach offers a viable alternative to orthognathic surgery for adults with skeletal class II malocclusion and a severe gummy smile due to hypermobile lip. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Astronauts are always faced with serious health problems during prolonged spaceflights. Previous studies have shown that weightlessness significantly affects the physiological function of female astronauts, including a change in reproductive hormones and ovarian cells, such as granulosa and theca cells. However, the effects of microgravity on these cells have not been well characterized, especially in granulosa cells. This study aimed to investigate the effects of simulated microgravity (SMG) on the proliferation and morphology of porcine granulosa cells (pGCs). pGC proliferation from the SMG group was inhibited, demonstrated by the reduced O.D. value and cell density in the WST-1 assay and cell number counting. SMG-induced pGCs exhibited an increased ratio of cells in the G0/G1 phase and a decreased ratio of cells in the S and G2/M phase. Western blot analysis indicated a down-regulation of cyclin D1, cyclin-dependent kinase 4 (cdk4), and cyclin-dependent kinase 6 (cdk6), leading to the prevention of the G1-S transition and inducing the arrest phase. pGCs under the SMG condition showed an increase in nuclear area. This caused a reduction in nuclear shape value in pGCs under the SMG condition. SMG-induced pGCs exhibited different morphologies, including fibroblast-like shape, rhomboid shape, and pebble-like shape. These results revealed that SMG inhibited proliferation and induced morphological changes in pGCs.

Optimization of ingredient levels in red dragon fruit bar was conducted using response surface methodology (RSM). The central composite design (CCD) was used to establish the formula based on two independent variables, including levels of passion fruit and pectin. Total titratable acidity (TTA), ascorbic acid (AA), betacyanin (BA), total phenolic content (TPC), flavonoid content (FC), antioxidant activity (DPPH radical scavenging activity), color (L*-, a*-, and b*- values), and sensory evaluation (overall likeness score) were monitored. It was found that second-order regression models fitted for all responses where the optimum levels of passion fruit and pectin for mixed red dragon-passion fruit bar with desirable characteristics were 29.63% and 1.35%, respectively, based on desirable characteristics. The corresponding optimum values of TTA, AA, BA, TPC, FC, and DPPH radical scavenging activity were 2.30%, 0.0189%, 49.34 mg/100 g, 0.33 mg GAE/g, 75.29 mg QE/g, 11.46%, respectively. L*-, a*-, and b*- values were 13.10, 21.39, and 13.83, respectively. An overall likeness score of the fruit bar with high acceptability was 7.67. The experimental values were highly fitted with the predicted values.

This study focused on impact of ultrasound-assisted process (UAP) at pre-treatment (UP) and simultaneous treatment (US) during papain hydrolysis for preparing collagen hydrolysate (CH) from Asian bullfrog skin. Ultrasonication times were varied (10, 20, 30 min), and CH prepared using papain hydrolysis without UAP was used as control. Different UAPs provided CH with various hydroxyproline contents, α-amino group contents, surface hydrophobicities, and antioxidative activities. UP at 20 min (UP-20) and US at 30 min (US-30) provided highly antioxidative CHs, which were selected for further studies on their Oxygen reactive absorbance capacity (ORAC) and molecular characteristics. CHs from UP-20 and US-30 had higher ORAC than that of control group (p ≤ 0.05). Slight difference in amino acid composition was detected between samples. Based on these results, molecular characteristic styles, molecular weight profile, antioxidative peptide content, and secondary structure of each sample were obtained. These results indicate that UP and US used varied enzymatic hydrolysis patterns and modified molecular conformation of CH, resulting in enhanced antioxidative activity. Therefore, different UAPs as UP and US could be effectively used in preparation of CH using papain hydrolysis from Asian bullfrog skin, which could improve production process efficiency by enhancing their bioactivity, particularly antioxidative activity.

Malbrancheamide is a dichlorinated fungal indole alkaloid isolated from both Malbranchea aurantiaca and Malbranchea graminicola that belongs to a family of natural products containing a characteristic bicyclo[2.2.2]diazaoctane core. The introduction of chlorine atoms on the indole ring of malbrancheamide differentiates it from other members of this family and contributes significantly to its biological activity. In this study, we characterized the two flavin-dependent halogenases involved in the late-stage halogenation of malbrancheamide in two different fungal strains. MalA and MalA' catalyze the iterative dichlorination and monobromination of the free substrate premalbrancheamide as the final steps in the malbrancheamide biosynthetic pathway. Two unnatural bromo-chloro-malbrancheamide analogues were generated through MalA-mediated chemoenzymatic synthesis. Structural analysis and computational studies of MalA' in complex with three substrates revealed that the enzyme represents a new class of zinc-binding flavin-dependent halogenases and provides new insights into a potentially unique reaction mechanism.

Vibration-assisted machining, known as hybrid processing technology, offers several benefits over conventional machining methods. However, developing mechanical structure designs to generate a non-resonant frequency source remains challenging. The objective of this study is to propose a novel design for an XY flexure positioner by combining the pseudo-rigid-body model with the Lagrange technique, finite element analysis and Crayfish optimization algorithm. Firstly, the mechanism was designed by combining a hybrid amplifier and parallel driving mechanism integrated with right circular hinges to increase the natural frequency and precision for potential application to VAM CNC milling. Then, the analytical model was established by the pseudo-rigid-body and Lagrange method. Next, the theoretical result was verified by finite element analysis. The first natural frequency results of theory and FEM methods were found at 990.74 Hz and 1058.5 Hz, respectively. The error between the two methods was 6.4%, demonstrating a reliable modeling approach. Based on the analytical equations, the Crayfish optimization algorithm was utilized for optimizing the main design variables of the mechanism. Next, the prototype was fabricated. The results showed that the experimental and simulated frequencies were 1127.62 Hz and 1216.6 Hz, with an error between the two methods of 7.31%. Finally, the workpiece was installed on the prototype and a real vibration-assisted CNC milling process was carried out in the frequency range [700 Hz, 1000 Hz]. The best surface roughness of the specimen was achieved at a frequency of 900 Hz with a Ra of 0.287 µm. This demonstrates that the proposed XY mechanism is an effective structure for generating a non-resonant frequency source for vibration-assisted machining. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A smile that reveals >4 mm of gum tissue is called a gummy smile (GS), offering negative impacts on people's self-confidence and aesthetic appearance. The treatment for GS should be planned according to underlying causes such as altered passive eruption of teeth, dentoalveolar extrusion, vertical maxillary excess, and short or hyperactive lip muscles. In this case report, a patient with severe GS received orthodontic and gingivoplasty treatment, aided by digital tools such as 3D simulation, smile design, and 3D printed guides. The treatment yielded remarkable and satisfactory results, without the need for extensive surgery. Our findings suggest that gingivoplasty is a minimally invasive, time- and cost-effective alternative to more extensive procedures for correcting severe gum recession. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study explores the near-surface dispersion mechanisms of contaminants in coastal waters, leveraging a comprehensive method that includes using dye and drifters as tracers, coupled with diverse observational platforms like drones, satellites, in situ sampling, and HF radar. The aim is to deepen our understanding of surface currents' impact on contaminant dispersion, thereby improving predictive models for managing environmental incidents such as pollutant releases. Rhodamine WT dye, chosen for its significant fluorescent properties and detectability, along with drifter data, allowed us to investigate the dynamics of near-surface physical phenomena such as the Ekman current, Stokes drift, and wind-driven currents. Our research emphasizes the importance of integrating scalar tracers and Lagrangian markers in experimental designs, revealing differential dispersion behaviors due to near-surface vertical shear caused by the Ekman current and Stokes drift. During slow-current conditions, the elongation direction of the dye patch aligned well with the direction of a depth-averaged Ekman spiral, or Ekman transport. Analytical calculations of vertical shear, based on the Ekman current and Stokes drift, closely matched those derived from tracer observations. Over a 7 h experiment, the vertical diffusivity near the surface was first observed at the early stages of scalar mixing, with a value of 1.9 × 10 − 4   m 2 / s , and the horizontal eddy diffusivity of the dye patch and drifters reached the order of 1 m 2 / s at a 1000 m length scale. Particle tracking models demonstrate that while HF radar currents can effectively predict the trajectories of tracers near the surface, incorporating near-surface currents, including the Ekman current, Stokes drift, and windage, is essential for a more accurate prediction of the fate of surface floats.
