No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2021-01-01 Objective/Context: Ecclesiastical production in Castilian language at the transition from the fourteenth to the fifteenth century, as well as in other vernacular languages of the period, highlighted the need to create teaching parameters for clerics and to prepare them in a better way to instruct the faithful in the doctrines of the Holy Scriptures. As theological and pastoral works were produced mostly in Latin until that time, it became essential to write treaties that were intelligible to the humblest clergymen. Based on a systematic review of works destined to the initiation of clerics in their duties in the Crown of Castile, this study examines the regulation of the conduct of clergymen, emphasizing the strategies adopted to guide preachers in recognizing the action of grace in their words. The importance of focusing this work on sermons reserved for clerics arises from the richness of this material to teach habits and values considered virtuous for all types of parishioners. Methodology: In order to examine the edifying role of preaching by instructed members of the Catholic Church, the first step consisted in systematizing instructions contained in sermon collections and manuscripts written by bishops that clearly defined the benefits of the preached word. Next, the means to naturalize such recommendations were questioned, highlighting the textual supports transmitted to the clergy. Originality: This study seeks to differentiate itself from other works on the training of clergy by addressing the role attributed to divine grace in stimulating words and inspiring the laity. Conclusions: Divine grace was considered not only the source of inspiration for clergymen to produce sermons, but also the channel through which the sacred word managed to stimulate the faithful to put into practice the teaching communicated to them. Through the examination of a part of the synodical constitutions of this period, this work seeks to analyze the role of the prelates in the promotion of teachings to be memorized by any type of churchgoer, regardless of their origin or social condition. No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2020-01-01 The second chief-chronicler and chief-keeper of the Torre do Tombo ( National Archives), Gomes Eanes de Zurara, was renowned for writing chronicles full of particulars about the conquest and retaining of Ceuta in the fifteenth century. Seeking to explore the impressions of the royal chronicler, the present work will discuss how Zurara made use of two of his sources: a speech by count D. Pedro de Meneses and, especially, one reportatio by Fr. Joao Xira. More precisely, the aim of this study is to examine to what extent Zurara reproduced the words of these famous figures expecting not only to legitimize the royal military incursion into North Africa, but also to instruct the Portuguese knights and counsel them on their role in society. Without dwelling too much on the character of Zurara, the intent is to analyse the role of the discourse of a clergyman and that of a knight in exhorting the Portuguese soldiers sent to that region, during a period of strengthening of the political and religious bases of Portugal. From the first half of the thirteenth century, there was an emergence of works written in Castilian language destined to regulate the functions attributed to the diocesan clergy of the Crown of Castile. By serializing books in verse, synod constitutions and other texts focused on the basic formation of clerics, elaborated between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, this study aims to examine the promotion of the power of Eucharist consecration and the instructional role of the Mass celebration at a time when the pastoral action of Iberian bishops and the expansion of the attributes of the parish churches were strengthened. In other words, the aim of this work is to analyze the measures adopted by great ecclesiastical authorities regarding the sacralization of speeches and gestures of clerics ordained during that period., A partir da primeira metade do século XIII, começaram a surgir obras escritas em castelhano destinadas a regular a celebração dos sacramentos da Igreja e das funções atribuídas ao clero diocesano da Coroa de Castela. Serializando livros em verso, constituições de sínodos e outros materiais voltados à formação basilar do clero que foram elaborados entre o século XIII e o XIV, o presente estudo visa examinar a promoção do poder da consagração da Eucaristia e o papel instrutivo da celebração da missa nesse momento de revigoramento da ação pastoral dos bispos ibéricos e de ampliação dos atributos das igrejas paroquianas. Em outras palavras, o alvo deste trabalho consiste em analisar as medidas adotadas por grandes autoridades eclesiásticas para a sacralização das falas e dos gestos articulados pelos clérigos ordenados nesse período.

Dans ces lignes directrices sont en cours d'élaboration, de façon relativement détaillé, les différents aspects de ce qui était et ce qui devrait être la vie conjugale, laissant ainsi l'impression que la sphère conjugale a été interprété comme une sorte de guidage des autres sphères de l'existence des chrétiens. Le mariage, après un long processus, se présente comme l'une des principales bases de l'ordre social, de sorte que le tissu des qualités recherchées à l'homme était provenant du contexte de la vie conjugale, mais avait comme but se concentrer bien au-delà. Soulignant par conséquent, les préceptes et les règles établies par les savants laïques et confesseurs du quatorzième à leurs contemporains, le but de cette étude est d'examiner les vertus, les attitudes, les comportements, devoirs et soins, indiqués en tant qu´idéaux chez les rois d´Avis et chez les évêchés portugais. Aussi, ce travail examine comment l' usage des sacrements de la Pénitence et de mariage comme des touches de maître à enseigner aux hommes la bonne façon de conduire leur royaume et leurs familles Nas obras jurídicas, crônicas e tratados em geral, mas principalmente nos manuais e tratados de confissão produzidos em Portugal desde o final do século XIV até o início do século XVI, encontram-se várias orientações sobre como os maridos deveriam agir e se comportar no âmbito das suas casas. Nessas orientações, vão sendo traçadas, de forma relativamente detalhada, diversas facetas do que era e do que deveria ser a vida matrimonial, deixando, assim, entrever que a esfera conjugal era interpretada como uma espécie de condutora das demais esferas da existência dos cristãos. O casamento, depois de um longo processo, firmase como uma das principais bases da ordem social, de forma que a tessitura das qualidades pretendidas para o homem partiam do âmbito da vida conjugal, mas visavam incidir para muito além dela. Com ênfase, pois, sobre os preceitos e regras estabelecidos por letrados leigos e confessores quatrocentistas para os seus contemporâneos, o objetivo deste estudo é esquadrinhar as virtudes, posturas, condutas, deveres e cuidados esboçados como ideais na corte avisina e nos bispados portugueses, bem como é examinar os usos dos sacramentos do Matrimônio e da Penitência como chaves-mestras para ensinar aos varões o caminho certo para conduzirem os seus e o reino In legal, chronic and treaty works, in general, but mainly in the manuals and treaties of confession produced in Portugal since the late fourteenth century to the early sixteenth century, there are several guidelines on how men should act and behave within their homes. In these guidelines are being drawn, in some details, the various aspects of what was and what should be the married life, permiting thus perceive that marital sphere was interpreted as a kind of guiding from the other spheres of the existence of Christians. Marriage, after a long process, stands as one of the main bases of the social order, so that the conjunct of the desired qualities to the man journeyed the context of married life, but aimed to focus far beyond it. Serão cotejadas as Crónicas Breves, produzidas no mosteiro de Santa Cruz de Coimbra no século XIV, e aquelas escritas pelos cronistas oficiais Fernão Lopes, Gomes Eanes de Zurara e Rui de Pina no âmbito do Arquivo régio no século XV. Com o objetivo de examinar se houve uma mudança de perspectiva no modo de se conceber a história entre os cronistas monásticos e os cronistas leigos, propomo-nos analisar até que ponto se pode falar em permanência e/ou ruptura entre os valores religiosos e laicos na conservação do passado. Em especial, procuraremos mostrar como os cronistas monásticos e régios pensaram a história em uma oposição Bem/Mal e a estruturaram a partir do jogo entre momentos de paz e de guerra. É através da discussão acerca da necessidade da guerra e da importância da paz que será possível compreender o modo como os cronistas concebiam a existência social dos grandes nobres e o papel que atribuíram a esses homens na missão de tornar Portugal o representante por excelência do Bem na Terra The purpose of this study is to map the place and values of the story the clergy and the laity in Portugal in the 14th and 15th centuries, when the history comes to be seen as an important tool not only for the legitimization of power, but also in the forming of the men of the kingdom. Will be collated the Crónicas Breves, produced in the monastery of Santa Cruz de Coimbra in the 14th century, and those written by the official chroniclers Fernão Lopes, Gomes Eanes de Zurara and Rui de Pina in the File regal in the 15th century. With the objective of to examine if there was a change of perspective in the way of conceiving the history of the monastic chroniclers and lay chroniclers, we will consider the extent to which there can be continuously and / or split between the religious and the secular conservation of the past. In particular, we aim to show how the royal and monastic chroniclers thought the story in an opposition Evil / Good and structured from the game between moments of peace and war. Visando estabelecer as bases de um reino virtuoso, os príncipes dessa dinastia buscaram constranger esses nobres para que soubessem como cuidar de seus corpos e espíritos, bem como da formação moral de seus filhos e filhas. Ao explorar os tratados escritos pelos primeiros membros da dinastia de Avis e seus coetâneos, nomeadamente o Livro da Montaria de D. João I, o Leal Conselheiro, Ensinhança de Bem Cavalgar Toda a Sela e o Livro da Cartuxa de D. Duarte, e a Virtuosa Benfeitoria, de D. Pedro, Duque de Coimbra, além de utilizar as crônicas escritas por Fernão Lopes, Crónica del Rei Dom Joham I, e por Gomes Eanes de Zurara, Crónica da Tomada de Ceuta, bem como os escritos anônimos de caráter religioso como o Orto do Esposo, o Virgeu de Consolaçon, o Boosco Deleitoso, e o Livro das Confissões de Martín Pérez, o alvo deste trabalho será serializar os conselhos que esses letrados escreveram para estimular os pais, irmãos, amigos, preceptores e confessores a iniciarem seus semelhantes tanto nos rudimentos da fé quanto nas regras elementares da corte. Do mesmo modo, serão explorados quais os principais instrumentos usados por esses guias na formação dos nobres, tais como a montaria, o tecer, a música, a missa e a leitura. Em resumo, este estudo visará mapear os atores e as práticas imprescindíveis na formação de homens e mulheres destinados a conduzir o reino de Portugal e suas principais instituições. Imbuídos da tarefa de divulgar as maravilhas encontradas nessas terras e enfatizar as diferenças entre os ritos pagãos do oriente e os sacramentos da Igreja de Roma, muitos missionários legaram relatos e cartas em que descreveram as singularidades das histórias por eles vividas e depoimentos de homens conhecidos ao longo da caminhada com destino à Corte do Cã. Mais precisamente, frades menores como Guilherme de Rubruc e Montecorvino procuraram reportar a relação dos tártaro-mongóis e de outros povos com suas divindades, destacando o formato de seus cultos, bem como o papel conferido a sacerdotes de diferentes crenças na Índia e China. Serializando relatos escritos por franciscanos nesse período, a presente pesquisa buscará examinar as metas das missões desses mendicantes e, igualmente, as suas impressões acerca dos cultos praticadas nessas plagas. Melhor dizendo, o alvo deste estudo será esquadrinhar como os seguidores de Francisco de Assis descreveram os costumes dos tártaros e de cristãos heréticos dessa região, como os alanos, nestorianos e armênios. Em linhas gerais, este trabalho procurará perscrutar o papel dos frades menores na evangelização de diversos povos e na catalogação das crenças orientais. Between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, when the Tartar-Mongol empire controlled most of the Asian territories, members of the Order of Friars Minor began to undertake missions to that territory, in order not only to promote evangelizing incursions, but also to know the peoples who lived there, and also the natural peculiarities of an environment that until then had been little explored by Catholics in the West. Imbued with the task of spreading the marvels found in these lands and emphasizing the differences between the pagan rites of the East and the sacraments of the Church of Rome, many missionaries bequeathed accounts and letters in which they described the singularities of the stories they lived and testimonies of men known to the during the walk to the court of the Khan. More precisely, Friars minors such as Guilherme de Rubruc and Montecorvino sought to report the relationship of the Tartar-Mongols and other peoples with their deities, highlighting the format of their worship services, as well as the role conferred on priests of different faiths in India and China. Serializing reports written by Franciscans in this period, this research will seek to examine the goals of the missions of these mendicants and also their impressions of the cults practiced in these plagues. Rather, the aim of this study will be to examine how the followers of Francis of Assisi described the customs of the Tatars and heretical Christians of this region, such as the Alans, Nestorians, and Armenians. In general terms, this work will seek to examine the role of the Friars Minor in the evangelization of various peoples and in the cataloging of Eastern beliefs.
