Curved periacetabular osteotomy (CPO) is used for the treatment of dysplastic hips. Previous studies have reported satisfying outcomes and low rate of severe complications associated with this procedure; however, no case of postoperative sciatic nerve palsy has been reported. In this study, we describe a case of postoperative sciatic nerve palsy following CPO due to nerve strangulation by scar tissue without direct injury. A female patient had severe buttock pain and posterior leg numbness after she underwent left-side CPO. Postoperative magnetic resonance imaging showed that the sciatic nerve was strangulated by the surrounding soft tissue. There was no bone fragment, active infection, bone necrosis, tumor, or spine disease. Therefore, we diagnosed nerve palsy by soft tissue strangulation, and revision surgery was indicated. During revision surgery, the sciatic nerve was observed to be strangulated by the scarring soft tissue, and the nerve had no mobility. After detachment, the pain and numbness disappeared. Direct injury of the sciatic nerve should not be caused by CPO; however, there is a possibility of postoperative sciatic nerve palsy due to the scarring soft tissue. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are important for optimal postoperative clinical outcomes.

南硫黄島における垂直分布に沿った森林群落の植生パターンを群落の組成や構造に基づいて明らかにした。DCAによる序列化により、木本層、草本層、着生層、裸地の優占度に基づく組成を2次元展開したところ木本層の組成はDCA1軸に沿って標高により区分された。雲霧林であるP4-50(17)、標高521m(コル)とP1-90(17)、911m(山頂)の植生プロットについては2007年に設置した植生プロットを再調査することができたため、10年前の組成と比較すると木本層や草本層では大きな変化はなかったが、着生層は2017年の調査においてオガサワラモクマオやトキワイヌビワなど常緑低木種が消失し、シマキクシノブやイワガネゼンマイが見られるなど大きく異なっていた。リーフサイズスペクトラをみると全体的には亜熱帯で見られる亜中形葉が最も多く、500m以上の雲霧帯では標高が上がるにしたがって中形葉が消失し、小形葉が出現していた。直径階分布により10年間の更新状況を比較するとP4-50(17)ではあまり変化がなかったが、P1-90(17)では常緑高木のコブガシの更新がInverse-J型からsporadic型になり不安定な更新を示したのに対して、常緑低木のトキワイヌビワやシマイズセンリョウは個体数が増加し、安定な更新を示した。群落断面図からも山頂のコブガシ林は、P2-60(17)とP4-50(17)のコブガシ林のように林冠がうっ閉しておらず、その間を常緑低木のヒサカキやトキワイヌビワが占有していた。1982年の調査ではコブガシによる閉鎖した林冠があったとされ、35年間で山頂雲霧林の構造が変化したと推定された。2007年には見られなかった崩壊地の調査を行い雲霧帯における一次遷移の初期段階を把握したところ、一年生草本、多年生草本、落葉広葉樹、常緑低木、常緑高木が出現する一般的な遷移系列に加えてシダ植物が遷移後期にまで残存する初期遷移系列が推定された。裸地に侵入する一年生草本にはオオアレチノギクなど外来種が山頂付近まで見られた。, We investigated floristic composition and community structure along an altitudinal gradient, with special reference to the development of the cloud zone, on Minami-Iwo-To Island in the Bonin Islands of southern Japan. We compared forest composition and structure at mid-altitude (521 m) and at the summit (911 m) between 2007 and 2017. We used DCA ordination to analyze the floristic composition of five plots in 2007 [P1 - 90 (07): 911 m - P5-06 (07): 59 m] and five plots in 2017 [P1 - 90 (17): 911 m - P5-04 (17): 39 m]. We also analyzed relative basal areas (RBA) of the tree layer (height ≥ 1.3 m), herb layer (height < 1.3 m), epiphyte layer, and sites left open after a massive landslide (eight plots) from 500 m down to sea level to identify similar floristic groups, with special reference to changes between 2007 and 2017. The floristic composition of the tree layer (cloud forests) at both 521 and 911 m was similar in 2007 and 2017, while the epiphyte layer changed significantly over the decade, with tree epiphytes being notably absent in 2017, and other fern species appearing. Regeneration of Machilus kobu at 911 m in 2017 showed an unstable pattern: DBH class distribution shifted from the stable Inverse-J type in 2007 to a more unstable sporadic type in 2017. We found abundant saplings of both Ficus boninsimae and Maesa montana var. formosana. The tree height of the former shrub was up to the canopy layer. The leaf size spectrum along altitudinal gradients was mainly dominated by notophyllous trees throughout the subtropical zone, with few mesophyllous trees below 500 m, and some microphyllous trees above 500 m. These traits indicate the development of a fundamental evergreen broad-leaved forest structure with few component species on this site. We observed an early successional pattern in the cloud zone after a landslide: annual herbaceous plants with several alien species at first, and then perennial herbaceous plants, deciduous broad-leaved trees, and evergreen broad-leaved trees. A pioneer fern coexisted with other species on the forest floor even in the late successional stage. Of the various ecosystems studied, the mountain top cloud forest with rare plant species is the most vulnerable to environmental changes.

南硫黄島における標高別の気象環境を明らかにするため、6月17日～24日の8日間の気温、相対湿度、土壌水分をS1(17)908m、S2(17)736m、S3(17)513m、S4(17)258m、S5(17)3mの5箇所において測定し、解析を行った。気温は標高が上がるにつれて減少し、相対湿度と土壌水分は高くなった。調査期間中の変化をみると、前半の17日～19日の悪天時は昼夜とも湿度が高く、20日～24日の晴天時は昼間の相対湿度が低下すること、雲霧のかかる悪天時と比べ晴天時に標高別の気温差が大きくなること、S4(17)より低標高域で有意に相対湿度が低下するが、晴天時の方が悪天時よりさらに相対湿度が低下すること、S4(17)以上で全期間通じて相対湿度が90%以上となる時間がもっとも長かったことなど10年前と同様の傾向が見られた。気温の逓減率から400m付近を境に低標高では1.12℃/100mの乾燥断熱減率から0.56℃/100mの湿潤断熱減率を示したことから、高標高域で雲霧帯が形成されることが示唆された。海岸部の露点温度から推定された雲底高度の変動をみると、600m以上では安定して雲霧が発生する安定帯であるが、200mから600m範囲では天気や昼夜によって上下する変動帯であると推定された。, Weather conditions (air temperature, relative humidity) and soil moisture along an altitudinal gradient were monitored in relation to the development of a cloud zone on Minami-Iwo-To Island. The maximum temperature was 39.3°C (at 3 m a.s.l.) and the minimum temperature was 17.9°C (at 908 m a.s.l, the summit). The difference in the mean temperatures at 3 m and 908 m was 8.1°C. Relative humidity and soil moisture at 3 m and 258 m were lower than those at 513 m or above. During the period from June 17 to 24 the weather changed from foggy (June 17–19) to clear (June 20–24). Altitudinal differences in the mean temperatures were relatively small (22.1–28.2°C) on foggy days, but larger when the weather was clear. Lapse rates were estimated from mean temperatures at five altitudes (3, 258, 513, 738, and 908 m). 2017年6月に実施された南硫黄島自然環境調査において約100点の維管束植物標本を採集した。このうち、南硫黄島において初めて確認された植物は、アサガオ(ヒルガオ科)、ツボクサ(セリ科)、オオバナノセンダングサ(キク科)、ヤブマオ属の一種(イラクサ科)、シソ科の一種、キヌラン属の一種(ラン科)の6種であった。また、1936年の調査以降、標本が採集されていなかったシマクモキリソウが再発見された。過去に発表された植物リストと今回の調査によって確認された種をあわせると、本島にはシダ植物44種、双子葉種子植物64種、単子葉植物27種、合計135種が記録された。, In this expedition, ca. 100 specimens of vascular plants were collected on Minami-Iwo-To Island. Six species, Ipomoea nil (L.) Roth, Centella asiatica (L.) Urb., Bidens pilosa L. var. radiata Sch. Bip., Boehmeria sp., Lamiaceae sp., and Zeuxine sp, were newly recorded on this island. We collected Liparis hostifolia (Koidz.) Koidz. ex Nakai, a species which has not been collected from the Bonin Islands in 79 years. This species bore flowers in cultivation. Altogether, including previously published data, 44 pteridophytes, 64 dicots, and 27 monocots (total: 135 vascular plant species) have been reported on Minami-Iwo-To Island.
