1. The Frame-Dragging effect on the excitation rate of atoms

Abstract

The frame-dragging phenomenon in gravitational fields is revisited to explore the geometric effects induced by spacetime curvature. We quantize a massless scalar field in the spacetime of a rotating sphere, incorporating the frame-dragging frequency into the field modes. The excitation rate for an atom undergoing uniform circular motion and interacting with the scalar field is calculated. Our results reveal that the time-dependent excitation rates of atoms following different trajectories exhibit a common envelope, from which the frame-dragging frequency can be effectively extracted. This discovery leads us to propose a novel detection scheme for measuring the frame-dragging frequency caused by rotating celestial bodies, eliminating the need for traditional starlight calibration methods.

2. Quantum Vicsek Model for Active Matter

Abstract

We propose a quantum analog of the Vicsek model, consisting of an ensemble of overdamped spin$-1/2$ particles with ferromagnetic couplings, driven by a uniformly polarized magnetic field. The spontaneous magnetization of the spin components breaks the $SO(3)$ (or $SO(2)$) symmetry, inducing an ordered phase of flocking. We derive the hydrodynamic equations, similar to those formulated by Toner and Tu, by applying a mean-field approximation to the quantum analog model up to the next leading order. Our investigation not only establishes a microscopic connection between the Vicsek model and the Toner-Tu hydrodynamics for active matter, but also aims to inspire further studies of active matter in the quantum regime.

Abstract

Abstract We extend the Carath\'{e}odory principle of the Second Law to quantum thermodynamics with energy levels depending on macroscopic variables, such as volume and magnetic field. This extension introduces the concept of Quantum Thermodynamic Integrability (QTI), offering an alternative foundation for statistical mechanics. QTI is characterized by the path-independence of work and heat within the thermodynamic manifold, which is locally described by energy levels and specific thermodynamic parameters. Within this framework, temperature naturally emerges as an integrating factor, allowing for the derivation of both canonical and non-canonical states from the Entropy Integrable Equations (EIE) based on QTI. Notably, non-canonical states, which become particularly significant outside the thermodynamic limit, reveal the existence of informational correlations in finite-size thermodynamic systems., Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures

Abstract

The optimal fingerprint method serves as a potent approach for detecting and attributing climate change. However, its experimental validation encounters challenges due to the intricate nature of climate systems. Here, we experimentally examine the optimal fingerprint method simulated by a precisely controlled magnetic resonance system of spins. The spin dynamic under an applied deterministic driving field and a noise field is utilized to emulate the complex climate system with external forcing and internal variability. Our experimental results affirm the theoretical prediction regarding the existence of an optimal detection direction which maximizes the signal-to-noise ratio, thereby validating the optimal fingerprint method. This work offers direct empirical verification of the optimal fingerprint method, crucial for comprehending climate change and its societal impacts.

5. Feynman Paradox about the Josephson effect and a sawtooth current in the double junction

Abstract

We revisit the Feynman approach to the Josephson effect, which employs a pair of linear coupling equations for its modeling. It is found that while the exact solutions can account for the AC Josephson effect when the coupling strength is significantly less than the voltage, they fail to produce the DC Josephson effect in any practical scenario. To address this fundamental discrepancy, we derive the coupled Ginzburg-Landau (GL) equations for two interconnected superconductors based on BCS theory. These equations reveal that the nonlinear coupling, which is overlooked in the Feynman method, is crucial in describing the spontaneous symmetry breaking in superconductors, a critical factor for achieving the DC Josephson effect. When the coupled GL equations are applied to a double junction, a sawtooth current pattern emerges, a result unattainable via the Feynman approach., Comment: 9 pages, 3 figures

6. Holonomic swap and controlled-swap gates of neutral atoms via selective Rydberg pumping

Abstract

Holonomic quantum computing offers a promising paradigm for quantum computation due to its error resistance and the ability to perform universal quantum computations. Here, we propose a scheme for the rapid implementation of a holonomic swap gate in neutral atomic systems, based on the selective Rydberg pumping mechanism. By employing time-dependent soft control, we effectively mitigate the impact of off-resonant terms even at higher driving intensities compared to time-independent driving. This approach accelerates the synthesis of logic gates and passively reduces the decoherence effects. Furthermore, by introducing an additional atom and applying the appropriate driving field, our scheme can be directly extended to implement a three-qubit controlled-swap gate. This advancement makes it a valuable tool for quantum state preparation, quantum switches, and a variational quantum algorithm in neutral atom systems., Comment: Accepted by EPJ Quantum Technology

7. Dressed Majorana fermion in a hybrid nanowire

Abstract

The low-energy theory of hybrid nanowire systems fails to define Majorana fermion (MF) in the strong tunneling and magnetic field strength. To address this limitation, we propose a holistic approach to define MF in which the quasi-excitation in nanowire and superconductor constitutes together its own ``antiparticles''. This definition is general, beyond the constraint presented in the low-energy theory. It reveals that the Majorana phase depends not only on the chemical potential and Zeeman energy in nanowire but also on those of superconductor, and that the mismatch of chemical potential leads not to observe MF. Such a broader perspective provides more specific experimental guidance under various conditions

Abstract

The H1 Collaboration at HERA reports the first measurement of groomed event shape observables in deep inelastic electron-proton scattering (DIS) at $\sqrt{s}=319$ GeV, using data recorded between the years 2003 and 2007 with an integrated luminosity of $351$ pb$^{-1}$. Event shapes provide incisive probes of perturbative and non-perturbative QCD. Grooming techniques have been used for jet measurements in hadronic collisions; this paper presents the first application of grooming to DIS data. The analysis is carried out in the Breit frame, utilizing the novel Centauro jet clustering algorithm that is designed for DIS event topologies. Events are required to have squared momentum-transfer $Q^2 > 150$ GeV$^2$ and inelasticity $ 0.2 < y < 0.7$. We report measurements of the production cross section of groomed event 1-jettiness and groomed invariant mass for several choices of grooming parameter. Abstract

The H1 Collaboration reports the first measurement of the 1-jettiness event shape observable $\tau_1^b$ in neutral-current deep-inelastic electron-proton scattering (DIS). The observable $\tau_1^b$ is equivalent to a thrust observable defined in the Breit frame. The data sample was collected at the HERA $ep$ collider in the years 2003-2007 with center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=319\,\text{GeV}$, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $351.1\,\text{pb}^{-1}$. Triple differential cross sections are provided as a function of $\tau_1^b$, event virtuality $Q^2$, and inelasticity $y$, in the kinematic region $Q^2>150\,\text{GeV}^{2}$. Single differential cross section are provided as a function of $\tau_1^b$ in a limited kinematic range. Double differential cross sections are measured, in contrast, integrated over $\tau_1^b$ and represent the inclusive neutral-current DIS cross section measured as a function of $Q^2$ and $y$. The data are compared to a variety of predictions and include classical and modern Monte Carlo event generators, predictions in fixed-order perturbative QCD where calculations up to $\mathcal{O}(\alpha_s^3)$ are available for $\tau_1^b$ or inclusive DIS, and resummed predictions at next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy matched to fixed order predictions at $\mathcal{O}(\alpha_s^2)$. These comparisons reveal sensitivity of the 1-jettiness observable to QCD parton shower and resummation effects, as well as the modeling of hadronization and fragmentation. Within their range of validity, the fixed-order predictions provide a good description of the data. Monte Carlo event generators are predictive over the full measured range and hence their underlying models and parameters can be constrained by comparing to the presented data., Comment: 45 pages, 38 tables, 13 figures

Abstract

The Breit frame provides a natural frame to analyze lepton-proton scattering events. In this reference frame, the parton model hard interactions between a quark and an exchanged boson defines the coordinate system such that the struck quark is back-scattered along the virtual photon momentum direction. In Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), higher order perturbative or non-perturbative effects can change this picture drastically. As Bjorken-$x$ decreases below one half, a rather peculiar event signature is predicted with increasing probability, where no radiation is present in one of the two Breit-frame hemispheres and all emissions are to be found in the other hemisphere. At higher orders in $\alpha_s$ or in the presence of soft QCD effects, predictions of the rate of these events are far from trivial, and that motivates measurements with real data. We report on the first observation of the empty current hemisphere events in electron-proton collisions at the HERA collider using data recorded with the H1 detector at a center-of-mass energy of 319 GeV. The fraction of inclusive neutral-current DIS events with an empty hemisphere is found to be $0.0112 \pm 3.9\,\%_\text{stat} \pm 4.5\,\%_\text{syst} \pm 1.6\,\%_\text{mod}$ in the selected kinematic region of $150< Q^2<1500$ GeV$^2$ and inelasticity $0.14< y<0.7$. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 351.1 pb$^{-1}$, sufficient to enable differential cross section measurements of these events. Abstract

In healthcare, the emphasis on patient safety and the minimization of medical errors cannot be overstated. Despite concerted efforts, many healthcare systems, especially in low-resource regions, still grapple with preventing these errors effectively. This study explores a pioneering application aimed at addressing this challenge by assisting caregivers in gauging potential risks derived from medical notes. The application leverages data from openFDA, delivering real-time, actionable insights regarding prescriptions. Preliminary analyses conducted on the MIMIC-III \cite{mimic} dataset affirm a proof of concept highlighting a reduction in medical errors and an amplification in patient safety. This tool holds promise for drastically enhancing healthcare outcomes in settings with limited resources. To bolster reproducibility and foster further research, the codebase underpinning our methodology is accessible on https://github.com/autonlab/2023.hackAuton/tree/main/prescription_checker. 13. The FAST all sky HI survey (FASHI): The first release of catalog

Abstract

The FAST All Sky HI survey (FASHI) was designed to cover the entire sky observable by the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST), spanning approximately 22000 square degrees of declination between -14 deg and +66 deg, and in the frequency range of 1050-1450 MHz, with the expectation of eventually detecting more than 100000 HI sources. Between August 2020 and June 2023, FASHI had covered more than 7600 square degrees, which is approximately 35% of the total sky observable by FAST. It has a median detection sensitivity of around 0.76 mJy/beam and a spectral line velocity resolution of ~6.4 km/s at a frequency of ~1.4 GHz. As of now, a total of 41741 extragalactic HI sources have been detected in the frequency range 1305.5-1419.5 MHz, corresponding to a redshift limit of z<0.09. By cross-matching FASHI sources with the Siena Galaxy Atlas (SGA) and the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) catalogs, we found that 16972 (40.7%) sources have spectroscopic redshifts and 10975 (26.3%) sources have only photometric redshifts. Most of the remaining 13794 (33.0%) HI sources are located in the direction of the Galactic plane, making their optical counterparts difficult to identify due to high extinction or high contamination of Galactic stellar sources. Based on current survey results, the FASHI survey is an unprecedented blind extragalactic HI survey. It has higher spectral and spatial resolution and broader coverage than the Arecibo Legacy Fast ALFA Survey (ALFALFA). When completed, FASHI will provide the largest extragalactic HI catalog and an objective view of HI content and large-scale structure in the local universe., Comment: 22 pages, 12 figures, published in SCPMA. Abstract

We report on the charged-particle multiplicity dependence of net-proton cumulant ratios up to sixth order from $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV $p$+$p$ collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The measured ratios $C_{4}/C_{2}$, $C_{5}/C_{1}$, and $C_{6}/C_{2}$ decrease with increased charged-particle multiplicity and rapidity acceptance. Neither the Skellam baselines nor PYTHIA8 calculations account for the observed multiplicity dependence. In addition, the ratios $C_{5}/C_{1}$ and $C_{6}/C_{2}$ approach negative values in the highest-multiplicity events, which implies that thermalized QCD matter may be formed in $p$+$p$ collisions., Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures, accepted version by PLB

Abstract

At the origin of the Universe, asymmetry between the amount of created matter and antimatter led to the matter-dominated Universe as we know today. The origins of this asymmetry remain not completely understood yet. High-energy nuclear collisions create conditions similar to the Universe microseconds after the Big Bang, with comparable amounts of matter and antimatter. Much of the created antimatter escapes the rapidly expanding fireball without annihilating, making such collisions an effective experimental tool to create heavy antimatter nuclear objects and study their properties, hoping to shed some light on existing questions on the asymmetry between matter and antimatter. Here we report the first observation of the antimatter hypernucleus \hbox{$^4_{\bar{\Lambda}}\overline{\hbox{H}}$}, composed of a $\bar{\Lambda}$ , an antiproton and two antineutrons. The discovery was made through its two-body decay after production in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions by the STAR experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. In total, 15.6 candidate \hbox{$^4_{\bar{\Lambda}}\overline{\hbox{H}}$} antimatter hypernuclei are obtained with an estimated background count of 6.4. The lifetimes of the antihypernuclei \hbox{$^3_{\bar{\Lambda}}\overline{\hbox{H}}$} and \hbox{$^4_{\bar{\Lambda}}\overline{\hbox{H}}$} are measured and compared with the lifetimes of their corresponding hypernuclei, testing the symmetry between matter and antimatter. Abstract

For the search of the chiral magnetic effect (CME), STAR previously presented the results from isobar collisions (${^{96}_{44}\text{Ru}}+{^{96}_{44}\text{Ru}}$, ${^{96}_{40}\text{Zr}}+{^{96}_{40}\text{Zr}}$) obtained through a blind analysis. The ratio of results in Ru+Ru to Zr+Zr collisions for the CME-sensitive charge-dependent azimuthal correlator ($\Delta\gamma$), normalized by elliptic anisotropy ($v_{2}$), was observed to be close to but systematically larger than the inverse multiplicity ratio. The background baseline for the isobar ratio, $Y = \frac{(\Delta\gamma/v_{2})^{\text{Ru}}}{(\Delta\gamma/v_{2})^{\text{Zr}}}$, is naively expected to be $\frac{(1/N)^{\text{Ru}}}{(1/N)^{\text{Zr}}}$; however, genuine two- and three-particle correlations are expected to alter it. We estimate the contributions to $Y$ from those correlations, utilizing both the isobar data and HIJING simulations. After including those contributions, we arrive at a final background baseline for $Y$, which is consistent with the isobar data. We extract an upper limit for the CME fraction in the $\Delta\gamma$ measurement of approximately $10\%$ at a $95\%$ confidence level on in isobar collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\text{NN}}} = 200$ GeV, with an expected $15\%$ difference in their squared magnetic fields., Comment: 19 pages, 14 figures

Abstract

Many theories predict a quartic acoustic attenuation increase at sub-THz frequencies in glassy media for the excess vibrational modes known as the boson peak anomaly. Here by introducing phase-sensitive acoustic spectroscopy techniques with a THz bandwidth, we investigate the acoustic properties of vitreous silica at 15 and 300K in the crucial but unexplored sub-THz gap region below the boson peak. Our results indicate a strong negative dispersion starting at \SI{500}{GHz} and the onset of an athermal quartic-frequency-scaling acoustic attenuation term, which emerges above all other thermal losses., Comment: 4 figures, 11 pages

Abstract

We report results on an elastic cross section measurement in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=510$ GeV, obtained with the Roman Pot setup of the STAR experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The elastic differential cross section is measured in the four-momentum transfer squared range $0.23 \leq -t \leq 0.67$ GeV$^2$. We find that a constant slope $B$ does not fit the data in the aforementioned $t$ range, and we obtain a much better fit using a second-order polynomial for $B(t)$. The $t$ dependence of $B$ is determined using six subintervals of $t$ in the STAR measured $t$ range, and is in good agreement with the phenomenological models. The measured elastic differential cross section $\mathrm{d}\sigma/\mathrm{dt}$ agrees well with the results obtained at $\sqrt{s} = 546$ GeV for proton--antiproton collisions by the UA4 experiment. We also determine that the integrated elastic cross section within the STAR $t$-range is $\sigma^\mathrm{fid}_\mathrm{el} = 462.1 \pm 0.9 (\mathrm{stat.}) \pm 1.1 (\mathrm {syst.}) \pm 11.6 (\mathrm {scale})$~$\mu\mathrm{b}$., Comment: 9 pages, 9 figures Version as published in Physics Letters B. Abstract

The longitudinal and transverse spin transfers to $\Lambda$ ($\overline{\Lambda}$) hyperons in polarized proton-proton collisions are expected to be sensitive to the helicity and transversity distributions, respectively, of (anti-)strange quarks in the proton, and to the corresponding polarized fragmentation functions. We report improved measurements of the longitudinal spin transfer coefficient, $D_{LL}$, and the transverse spin transfer coefficient, $D_{TT}$, to $\Lambda$ and $\overline{\Lambda}$ in polarized proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 200 GeV by the STAR experiment at RHIC. The data set includes longitudinally polarized proton-proton collisions with an integrated luminosity of 52 pb$^{-1}$, and transversely polarized proton-proton collisions with a similar integrated luminosity. Both data sets have about twice the statistics of previous results and cover a kinematic range of $|\eta_{\Lambda(\overline{\Lambda})}|$ $<$ 1.2 and transverse momentum $p_{T,{\Lambda(\overline{\Lambda})}}$ up to 8 GeV/$c$. We also report the first measurements of the hyperon spin transfer coefficients $D_{LL}$ and $D_{TT}$ as a function of the fractional jet momentum $z$ carried by the hyperon, which can provide more direct constraints on the polarized fragmentation functions.

Abstract

We measure triangular flow relative to the reaction plane at 3 GeV center-of-mass energy in Au+Au collisions at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. A significant $v_3$ signal for protons is observed, which increases for higher rapidity, higher transverse momentum, and more peripheral collisions. The triangular flow is essentially rapidity-odd with a slope at mid-rapidity, $dv_3/dy|_{(y=0)}$, opposite in sign compared to the slope for directed flow. No significant $v_3$ signal is observed for charged pions and kaons. Comparisons with models suggest that a mean field potential is required to describe these results, and that the triangular shape of the participant nucleons is the result of stopping and nuclear geometry., Comment: 12 pages, 14 figures

Abstract

The chiral magnetic effect (CME) is a phenomenon that arises from the QCD anomaly in the presence of an external magnetic field. The experimental search for its evidence has been one of the key goals of the physics program of the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider. The STAR collaboration has previously presented the results of a blind analysis of isobar collisions (${^{96}_{44}\text{Ru}}+{^{96}_{44}\text{Ru}}$, ${^{96}_{40}\text{Zr}}+{^{96}_{40}\text{Zr}}$) in the search for the CME. The isobar ratio ($Y$) of CME-sensitive observable, charge separation scaled by elliptic anisotropy, is close to but systematically larger than the inverse multiplicity ratio, the naive background baseline. This indicates the potential existence of a CME signal and the presence of remaining nonflow background due to two- and three-particle correlations, which are different between the isobars. In this post-blind analysis, we estimate the contributions from those nonflow correlations as a background baseline to $Y$, utilizing the isobar data as well as Heavy Ion Jet Interaction Generator simulations. This baseline is found consistent with the isobar ratio measurement, and an upper limit of 10% at 95% confidence level is extracted for the CME fraction in the charge separation measurement in isobar collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=200$ GeV., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures

Bacterial growth was observed in 39 cases, with a preponderance of Escherichia coli (20, 51.28%), Streptococcus agalactiae (7, 17.95%). The fertilization rate of contaminated embryos was 18.18% (Klebsiella pneumoniae) to 94.79% (S. agalactiae), the cleavage rate was 9.09% (Enterobacter cloacae) to 98.90% (S. agalactiae), and the available embryo rate of Day 3 was 0 (Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterobacter cloacae) to 63.33% (S. agalactiae). Blastocyst formation rate was 3.23% (Proteus mirabilis) to 64.29% (Streptococcus mitis). E. coli contamination occurred mostly on Day 1, and S. agalactiae on Days 3 and 5. After rinsing and rescuing treatment, six healthy male babies were born.Conclusion: E. coli and S. agalactiae were the most common bacterial embryo contaminants. Most microbial contamination can significantly decrease the fertilization rate. Occurrence of PDHA represents an increased risk of poor prognosis for patients.Objective: To establish and validate a nomogram prediction model for high-activity delirium after non-cardiac surgery in a post-anesthesia care unit (PACU).Methods: This study retrospectively enrolled adult patients who underwent non-cardiac surgery and were observed in the PACU as training data. Patients were divided into PDHA (199 patients) and non-PDHA (396 patients) groups. Patients’ general data, preoperative indicators, intraoperative conditions, and postoperative PACU conditions were collected. The risk factors for PDHA were identified using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. A predictive column chart was created using R language. Adult patients who underwent non-cardiac surgery and entered the PACU for observation were randomly selected as the validation set data (198 cases) for model performance validation.Results: The incidence rate of adult PDHA in the PACU was 0.275%. Sex, age, smoking history, low preoperative albumin level, Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) classification, anesthesia duration, and postoperative PACU pain score were independent risk factors for hyperactive delirium in PACU adults. In this study, an adult PACU PDHA nomogram prediction model was developed. The training dataset verified that the ROC curve (area under the curve) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) were 0.936 (0.917– 0.955). The ROC curve of the validation data row showed that the area under the curve and 95% CI were 0.926 (0.885– 0.967).Conclusion: The nomogram predictive model for PACU adult high-activity delirium constructed in this study showed good predictive performance. This study aims to evaluate the burden of gastrointestinal tumors in Asia from 1990 to 2021 using data from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021 (GBD 2021).Methods: The absolute incidence, mortality, and disability adjusted life years (DALYs) number and rate of six gastrointestinal tumors(colon and rectum cancer (CRC), stomach cancer (SC), pancreatic cancer (PC), esophageal cancer (EC), liver cancer (LC) and gallbladder and biliary tract cancer (GBTC)) in 48 Asian countries were extracted from GBD 2021. Differences were analyzed based on gender, age, year, location and socio-demographic index (SDI).Results: In 2021, SC accounted for the highest disease burden in Asia (DALYs=16.41million [95% UI: 13.70, 19.62]). From 1990 to 2021, the age-standardized incidence rates of EC, LC, and SC in Asia declined, while the incidence rates of CRC and PC increased significantly, with CRC showing the largest rise (AAPC=1.08 [95% CI: 1.02 to 1.12]). Gastrointestinal tumors DALY rates peaked at age 70 and above, with males generally exhibiting higher rates than females. Furthermore, East Asia bears a higher burden compared to other Asian subregions. A higher SDI correlates with increased DALY rates for PC, but no linear relationship was observed for other gastrointestinal tumors.Conclusion: The burden of gastrointestinal tumors in Asia remains high and may continue to increase. Our study aimed to identify a novel biomarker for pSS to improve its diagnosis and treatment.Methods: The gene expression profiles of pSS were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. The specific differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were screened by the Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO), Random Forest (RF), and Recursive Feature Elimination with Support Vector Machines (SVM-RFE). A biomarker was picked out based on correlation and diagnostic performance, the connection between the biomarker and clinical traits and immune infiltrating cells was explored, and the biomarker’s protein expression level in the serum of pSS patients was detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network regulated by the biomarker was predicted to verify the reliability of the biomarker in diagnosing pSS.Results: IFI44, XAF1, GBP1, EIF2AK2, IFI27, and IFI6 showed prominent diagnostic ability, with the high accuracy (AUC = 0.859) and significance (R ≥ 0.8) of IFI44 within the training dataset. IFI44 strongly exhibited a negative correlation with resting NK cells, macrophages M0, and eosinophils, and a positive correlation with activated dendritic cells, naive B cells, and activated CD4 memory T cells. Furthermore, IFI44 was significantly positively correlated with clinical traits such as IgG, SSA, SSB, ANA, and ESSDAI, with its protein expression level in the serum of pSS patients being notably elevated compared to controls (p < 0.001). Finally, the ceRNA regulatory network showed that hsa-miR-944, hsa-miR-9-5p, hsa-miR-126-5p, and hsa-miR-335-3p were significantly targeted IFI44, suggesting that IFI44 may serve as a dependable biomarker for pSS.Conclusion: In this study, we dug out IFI44 as a biomarker for pSS, systematically studied the potential regulatory mechanism of IFI44, and verified its reliability as a biomarker for pSS.Keywords: primary Sjögren’s syndrome, machine learning, immune cell infiltration, biomarker, IFI44

However, the mechanism of its action in the acute phase of acute pontine infarction remains unclear. This study investigated the association between the AIP and the short-term prognosis of acute pontine infarction.Methods: Clinical and laboratory index data of patients admitted to the hospital for acute pontine infarction were continuously included, and these patients were followed up for 90 days after disease onset. The modified Rankin Scale (mRS) was used to evaluate the 90-day clinical outcomes of the patients, and an mRS score ≥ 3 was used to define adverse functional outcomes. Univariate analysis was used to detect differences in the indicators between the two groups. Patients were then divided into three groups according to the quantile of the AIP (T1: AIP ≤ 0.029; T2, 0.029 < AIP ≤ 0.248; T3, AIP > 0.248), and a binary logistic regression model was used to assess risk factors for prognosis shortly after acute pontine infarction.Results: A total of 260 patients with acute pontine infarction (mean age=64.5± 11.8 years) were included during the study period, and 68 (26.2%) patients had a poor 90-day prognosis. The AIP in the poor 90-day prognosis group was significantly greater (P < 0.05) than that in the good 90-day prognosis group. The multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that the AIP (OR=9.829; 95% CI: 2.837– 34.051; p < 0.001), baseline NIHSS score (OR=1.663; 95% CI: 1.400– 1.975; p < 0.001) and infarct volume (OR=1.762; 95% CI: 1.013– 3.062; p=0.045) were significantly associated with poor 90-day prognosis in patients with acute pontine infarction.Conclusion: In patients with acute pontine infarction, the AIP may serve as an important biological marker of poor clinical prognosis and is independently associated with poor 90-day prognosis.Keywords: lipid metabolism, atherogenic index of plasma, pontine infarction, risk factors, outcome

Abstract

Angular distributions of charged particles relative to jet axes are studied in $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}$ = 200 GeV Au+Au collisions as a function of the jet orientation with respect to the event plane. This differential study tests the expected path-length dependence of energy loss experienced by a hard-scattered parton as it traverses the hot and dense medium formed in heavy-ion collisions. A second-order event plane is used in the analysis as an experimental estimate of the reaction plane formed by the collision impact parameter and the beam direction. Charged-particle jets with $15 < p_{\rm T, jet} <$ 20 and $20 < p_{\rm T, jet} <$ 40 GeV/$c$ were reconstructed with the anti-$k_{\rm T}$ algorithm with radius parameter setting of (R=0.4) in the 20-50\% centrality bin to maximize the initial-state eccentricity of the interaction region. The reaction plane fit method is implemented to remove the flow-modulated background with better precision than prior methods. Yields and widths of jet-associated charged-hadron distributions are extracted in three angular bins between the jet axis and the event plane. The event-plane (EP) dependence is further quantified by ratios of the associated yields in different EP bins. No dependence on orientation of the jet axis with respect to the event plane is seen within the uncertainties in the kinematic regime studied. This finding is consistent with a similar experimental observation by ALICE in $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}$ = 2.76 TeV Pb+Pb collision data.

Abstract

We study the task of coherence filtration under strictly incoherent operations in this paper. The aim of this task is to transform a given state $\rho$ into another one $\rho^\prime$ whose fidelity with the maximally coherent state is maximal by using stochastic strictly incoherent operations. We find that the maximal fidelity between $\rho^\prime$ and the maximally coherent state is given by a multiple of the $\Delta$ robustness of coherence $R(\rho\|\Delta\rho):=\min\{\uplambda|\rho\leq\uplambda\Delta\rho\}$, which provides $R(\rho\|\Delta\rho)$ an operational interpretation. Abstract

Quantum technology has led to increasingly sophisticated and complex quantum devices. Assessing their reliability (quantum reliability) is an important issue. Although reliability theory for classical devices has been well developed in industry and technology, a suitable metric on quantum reliability and its loss has not been systematically investigated. Since reliability-loss depends on the process, quantum fidelity does not always fully depict it. This study provides a metric of quantum reliability by shifting the focus from state-distinguishing to trajectory-distinguishing. In contrast to the conventional notion of classical reliability, which is evaluated using probabilistic measurements of binary logical variables, quantum reliability is grounded in the quantum probability amplitude or wave function. This research provides a universal framework for reliability theory encompassing both classical and quantum devices. It offers a new perspective on quantum engineering by elucidating how intensely the real quantum process a device undergoes influences its performance., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures. 31. Controlling superconducting transistor by coherent light

Abstract

The Josephson junction is typically tuned by a magnetic field or electrostatic gates to realize a superconducting transistor, which manipulates the supercurrent in integrated superconducting circuits. However, this tunable method does not achieve simultaneous control for the supercurrent phase (phase difference between two superconductors) and magnitude. Here, we propose a novel scheme for the light-controlled superconducting transistor, which is composed of two superconductor leads linked by a coherent light-driven quantum dot. We discover a Josephson-like relation for supercurrent $I_{\mathrm{s}}=I_{c}(\Phi)\,\sin\Phi$, where both supercurrent phase $\Phi$ and magnitude $I_{c}$ could be entirely controlled by the phase, intensity, and detuning of the driving light. Additionally, the supercurrent magnitude displays a Fano profile with the increase of the driving light intensity, which is clearly understood by comparing the level splitting of the quantum dot under light driving and the superconducting gap. Moreover, when two such superconducting transistors form a loop, they make up a light-controlled superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID). Such a light-controlled SQUID could demonstrate the Josephson diode effect, and the optimized non-reciprocal efficiency achieves up to $54\%$, surpassing the maximum record reported in recent literature. Thus, our feasible scheme delivers a promising platform to perform diverse and flexible manipulations in superconducting circuits.

Abstract

Particle physics today faces the challenge of explaining the mystery of dark matter, the origin of matter over anti-matter in the Universe, the origin of the neutrino masses, the apparent fine-tuning of the electro-weak scale, and many other aspects of fundamental physics. Perhaps the most striking frontier to emerge in the search for answers involves new physics at mass scales comparable to familiar matter, below the GeV-scale, or even radically below, down to sub-eV scales, and with very feeble interaction strength. New theoretical ideas to address dark matter and other fundamental questions predict such feebly interacting particles (FIPs) at these scales, and indeed, existing data provide numerous hints for such possibility. A vibrant experimental program to discover such physics is under way, guided by a systematic theoretical approach firmly grounded on the underlying principles of the Standard Model. Abstract

We report the first measurements of cumulants, up to $4^{th}$ order, of deuteron number distributions and proton-deuteron correlations in Au+Au collisions recorded by the STAR experiment in phase-I of Beam Energy Scan (BES) program at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. Deuteron cumulants, their ratios, and proton-deuteron mixed cumulants are presented for different collision centralities covering a range of center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$~=~7.7 to 200~GeV. It is found that the cumulant ratios at lower collision energies favor a canonical ensemble over a grand canonical ensemble in thermal models. An anti-correlation between proton and deuteron multiplicity is observed across all collision energies and centralities, consistent with the expectation from global baryon number conservation. The UrQMD model coupled with a phase-space coalescence mechanism qualitatively reproduces the collision-energy dependence of cumulant ratios and proton-deuteron correlations., Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures; published in Physics Letters B

Abstract

Global polarizations ($P$) of $\Lambda$ ($\bar{\Lambda}$) hyperons have been observed in non-central heavy-ion collisions. The strong magnetic field primarily created by the spectator protons in such collisions would split the $\Lambda$ and $\bar{\Lambda}$ global polarizations ($\Delta P = P_{\Lambda} - P_{\bar{\Lambda}} < 0$). Additionally, quantum chromodynamics (QCD) predicts topological charge fluctuations in vacuum, resulting in a chirality imbalance or parity violation in a local domain. This would give rise to an imbalance ($\Delta n = \frac{N_{\text{L}} - N_{\text{R}}}{\langle N_{\text{L}} + N_{\text{R}} \rangle} \neq 0$) between left- and right-handed $\Lambda$ ($\bar{\Lambda}$) as well as a charge separation along the magnetic field, referred to as the chiral magnetic effect (CME). This charge separation can be characterized by the parity-even azimuthal correlator ($\Delta\gamma$) and parity-odd azimuthal harmonic observable ($\Delta a_{1}$). Measurements of $\Delta P$, $\Delta\gamma$, and $\Delta a_{1}$ have not led to definitive conclusions concerning the CME or the magnetic field, and $\Delta n$ has not been measured previously. Correlations among these observables may reveal new insights. This paper reports measurements of correlation between $\Delta n$ and $\Delta a_{1}$, which is sensitive to chirality fluctuations, and correlation between $\Delta P$ and $\Delta\gamma$ sensitive to magnetic field in Au+Au collisions at 27 GeV. Abstract

The deconfined quark-gluon plasma (QGP) created in relativistic heavy-ion collisions enables the exploration of the fundamental properties of matter under extreme conditions. Non-central collisions can produce strong magnetic fields on the order of $10^{18}$ Gauss, which offers a probe into the electrical conductivity of the QGP. In particular, quarks and anti-quarks carry opposite charges and receive contrary electromagnetic forces that alter their momenta. This phenomenon can be manifested in the collective motion of final-state particles, specifically in the rapidity-odd directed flow, denoted as $v_1(\mathsf{y})$. Here we present the charge-dependent measurements of $dv_1/d\mathsf{y}$ near midrapidities for $\pi^{\pm}$, $K^{\pm}$, and $p(\bar{p})$ in Au+Au and isobar ($_{44}^{96}$Ru+$_{44}^{96}$Ru and $_{40}^{96}$Zr+$_{40}^{96}$Zr) collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=$ 200 GeV, and in Au+Au collisions at 27 GeV, recorded by the STAR detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The combined dependence of the $v_1$ signal on collision system, particle species, and collision centrality can be qualitatively and semi-quantitatively understood as several effects on constituent quarks. While the results in central events can be explained by the $u$ and $d$ quarks transported from initial-state nuclei, those in peripheral events reveal the impacts of the electromagnetic field on the QGP. Our data put valuable constraints on the electrical conductivity of the QGP in theoretical calculations.

38. Refined Majorana phase diagram in topological insulator-superconductor hybrid system

Abstract

The edge state of the topological insulator coupled to a superconductor system is able to simulate the Majorana fermion in zero energy mode since the Kitaev-type pairing is induced by exchanging quasi-excitations in electron tunneling. However, the present study has revealed that this physical simulation is not valid for a larger surface gap, which is the energy gap of the insulator's surface states. To address this issue, a refined pairing term that depends on the surface gap has been obtained as a second-order effect of the proximity effect, whereas the lowest order produces a constant pairing strength. By carefully considering the dependence of pairing strength on the surface gap, the Majorana phase diagram is re-achieved and a significant difference from previous work is observed, where the pairing strength was assumed to be independent of the surface gap and resulted in a conical phase boundary.

Abstract

We propose a finite-time quantum Szilard engine (QSE) with a quantum particle with spin as the working substance (WS) to accelerate the operation of information engines. We introduce a Maxwell's demon (MD) to probe the spin state within a finite measurement time $t_{{\rm M}}$ to capture the which-way information of the particle, quantified by the mutual information $I(t_{\rm{M}})$ between WS and MD. We establish that the efficiency $\eta$ of QSE is bounded by $\eta\leq1-(1-\eta_{\rm{C}}){\rm ln}2/I(t_{{\rm M}})$, where $I(t_{{\rm M}})/\rm{ln}2$ characterizes the ideality of quantum measurement, and approaches $1$ for the Carnot efficiency reached under ideal measurement in quasi-static regime. We find that the power of QSE scales as $P\propto t_{{\rm M}}^{3}$ in the short-time regime and as $P\propto t_{\rm M}^{-1}$ in the long-time regime. Additionally, considering the energy cost for erasing the MD's memory required by Landauer's principle, there exists a threshold time that guarantees QSE to output positive work., Comment: 6+10 pages, 3+4 figures, Comments are welcome

Abstract

The radiation pattern within high energy quark- and gluon-initiated jets (jet substructure) is used extensively as a precision probe of the strong force as well as an environment for optimizing event generators with numerous applications in high energy particle and nuclear physics. Looking at electron-proton collisions is of particular interest as many of the complications present at hadron colliders are absent. A detailed study of modern jet substructure observables, jet angularities, in electron-proton collisions is presented using data recorded using the H1 detector at HERA. The measurement is unbinned and multi-dimensional, using machine learning to correct for detector effects. All of the available reconstructed object information of the respective jets is interpreted by a graph neural network, achieving superior precision on a selected set of jet angularities. Training these networks was enabled by the use of a large number of GPUs in the Perlmutter supercomputer at Berkeley Lab. The particle jets are reconstructed in the laboratory frame, using the $k_{\mathrm{T}}$ jet clustering algorithm. Results are reported at high transverse momentum transfer $Q^2>150$ GeV${}^2$, and inelasticity $0.2 < y < 0.7$. The analysis is also performed in sub-regions of $Q^2$, thus probing scale dependencies of the substructure variables. Abstract

The polarization of $\Lambda$ and $\bar{\Lambda}$ hyperons along the beam direction has been measured relative to the second and third harmonic event planes in isobar Ru+Ru and Zr+Zr collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV. This is the first experimental evidence of the hyperon polarization by the triangular flow originating from the initial density fluctuations. The amplitudes of the sine modulation for the second and third harmonic results are comparable in magnitude, increase from central to peripheral collisions, and show a mild $p_T$ dependence. The azimuthal angle dependence of the polarization follows the vorticity pattern expected due to elliptic and triangular anisotropic flow, and qualitatively disagree with most hydrodynamic model calculations based on thermal vorticity and shear induced contributions. The model results based on one of existing implementations of the shear contribution lead to a correct azimuthal angle dependence, but predict centrality and $p_T$ dependence that still disagree with experimental measurements. Thus, our results provide stringent constraints on the thermal vorticity and shear-induced contributions to hyperon polarization. Abstract

We report a new measurement of the production of electrons from open heavy-flavor hadron decays (HFEs) at mid-rapidity ($|y|<$ 0.7) in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=200$ GeV. Invariant yields of HFEs are measured for the transverse momentum range of $3.5 < p_{\rm T} < 9$ GeV/$c$ in various configurations of the collision geometry. The HFE yields in head-on Au+Au collisions are suppressed by approximately a factor of 2 compared to that in $p$+$p$ collisions scaled by the average number of binary collisions, indicating strong interactions between heavy quarks and the hot and dense medium created in heavy-ion collisions. Comparison of these results with models provides additional tests of theoretical calculations of heavy quark energy loss in the quark-gluon plasma.

Abstract

We report on new measurements of elliptic flow ($v_2$) of electrons from heavy-flavor hadron decays at mid-rapidity ($|y|<0.8$) in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}}$ = 27 and 54.4 GeV from the STAR experiment. Heavy-flavor decay electrons ($e^{\rm HF}$) in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}}$ = 54.4 GeV exhibit a non-zero $v_2$ in the transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) region of $p_{\rm T}<$ 2 GeV/$c$ with the magnitude comparable to that at $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}}=200$ GeV. The measured $e^{\rm HF}$ $v_2$ at 54.4 GeV is also consistent with the expectation of their parent charm hadron $v_2$ following number-of-constituent-quark scaling as other light and strange flavor hadrons at this energy. These suggest that charm quarks gain significant collectivity through the evolution of the QCD medium and may reach local thermal equilibrium in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}}=54.4$ GeV. The measured $e^{\rm HF}$ $v_2$ in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}}=$ 27 GeV is consistent with zero within large uncertainties. The energy dependence of $v_2$ for different flavor particles ($\pi,\phi,D^{0}/e^{\rm HF}$) shows an indication of quark mass hierarchy in reaching thermalization in high-energy nuclear collisions., Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures, 1 table

Our study delved into the congruence between breast cancer treatment recommendations provided by CSCO AI and their practical application in clinical settings.Methods: A retrospective analysis encompassed 537 breast cancer patients treated at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University between January 2017 and December 2022. Proficient senior oncology researchers manually input patient data into the CSCO AI system. “Consistent” and “Inconsistent” treatment categories were defined by aligning our treatment protocols with the classification system in the CSCO AI recommendations. Cases that initially showed inconsistency underwent a second evaluation by the Multi-Disciplinary Treatment (MDT) team at the hospital. Concordance was achieved when MDTs’ treatment suggestions were in the ‘Consistent’ categories.Results: An impressive 80.4% concurrence was observed between actual treatment protocols and CSCO AI recommendations across all breast cancer patients. Notably, the alignment was markedly higher for stage I (85.02%) and stage III (88.46%) patients in contrast to stage II patients (76.06%, P=0.023). Moreover, there was a significant concordance between invasive ductal carcinoma and lobular carcinoma (88.46%). Interestingly, triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) exhibited a high concordance rate (87.50%) compared to other molecular subtypes. When contrasting MDT-recommended treatments with CSCO AI decisions, an overall 92.4% agreement was established. Furthermore, a logistic multivariate analysis highlighted the statistical significance of age, menstrual status, tumor type, molecular subtype, tumor size, and TNM stage in influencing consistency.Conclusion: In the realm of breast cancer treatment, the alignment between recommendations offered by CSCO AI and those from MDT is predominant. The patients were categorized into sepsis and ARDS group based on whether they developed ARDS during the intensive care unit (ICU) hospitalization.Results: There was significant difference in the level of Mrp 8/14 between the sepsis group and ARDS groups (P < 0.05). Mrp 8/14 correlated positively with procalcitonin (PCT), interleukin-6 (IL-6), acute physiology and chronic health evaluation II (APACHE II) score, sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) score on day 1, mechanical ventilation time, length of ICU stay and hospitalization expenses in ICU (all P < 0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed Mrp 8/14 was the independent factor for forecasting the occurrence of sepsis- induced ARDS (P < 0.05). The areas under receiver operating characteristic curves for Mrp 8/14 were higher than that of PCT, APACHE II score and SOFA score on day 1 (P < 0.05).Conclusion: The serum Mrp 8/14 level at admission may be a potential marker for predicting the occurrence of ARDS induced by sepsis. Abstract

Fourth-generation storage rings enabled by multi-bend achromat lattices are being inaugurated worldwide and many more are planned for the next decade. These sources deliver stable ultra-high brightness radiation with unmatched levels of transverse coherence by virtue of their highly advanced magnetic lattices. Optimization of these challenging and strongly nonlinear lattices with many degrees of freedom bounded by extensive sets of constraints and multiple often conflicting optimization goals is highly demanding and requires application of the most advanced numerical tools available to the community. While multi-objective genetic algorithms have been very successful in supporting these optimization efforts, the algorithms suffer from a fundamental limitation of their stochastic nature: an exceedingly vast number of candidate lattices, most of which eventually are rejected, has to be fully evaluated. This comes at immense computational cost and thus drives excessive runtime despite use of large supercomputing clusters. We therefore propose to employ deep learning techniques and iterative retraining of neural networks to massively accelerate such lattice evaluation, thereby allowing lattice optimization to rely on far fewer a priori assumptions, open up to larger search ranges, and include right from the start and in parallel multiple error distributions to find truly global optima, all while completing a full optimization campaign in weeks rather than months. In this paper we present the neural network designs, the deep learning approach, iterative retraining procedures, and demonstrate how these machine learning techniques can be incorporated into existing state-of-the-art optimization workflows with only minimal changes applied to the optimization pipeline itself and none at all to the employed tracking codes.

Abstract

Density fluctuations near the QCD critical point can be probed via an intermittency analysis in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. We report the first measurement of intermittency in Au$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{_{NN}}}$ = 7.7-200 GeV measured by the STAR experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The scaled factorial moments of identified charged hadrons are analyzed at mid-rapidity and within the transverse momentum phase space. We observe a power-law behavior of scaled factorial moments in Au$+$Au collisions and a decrease in the extracted scaling exponent ($\nu$) from peripheral to central collisions. The $\nu$ is consistent with a constant for different collisions energies in the mid-central (10-40\%) collisions. Moreover, the $\nu$ in the 0-5\% most central Au$+$Au collisions exhibits a non-monotonic energy dependence that reaches a possible minimum around $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{_{NN}}}$ = 27 GeV. Abstract

We report here the first observation of directed flow ($v_1$) of the hypernuclei $^3_{\Lambda}$H and $^4_{\Lambda}$H in mid-central Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 3 GeV at RHIC. These data are taken as part of the beam energy scan program carried out by the STAR experiment. From 165 $\times$ 10$^{6}$ events in 5%-40% centrality, about 8400 $^3_{\Lambda}$H and 5200 $^4_{\Lambda}$H candidates are reconstructed through two- and three-body decay channels. We observe that these hypernuclei exhibit significant directed flow. Comparing to that of light nuclei, it is found that the midrapidity $v_1$ slopes of $^3_{\Lambda}$H and $^4_{\Lambda}$H follow baryon number scaling, implying that the coalescence is the dominant mechanism for these hypernuclei production in such collisions., Comment: 5pages, 4 figures. Abstract

The linear and mode-coupled contributions to higher-order anisotropic flow are presented for Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}$ = 27, 39, 54.4, and 200 GeV and compared to similar measurements for Pb+Pb collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The coefficients and the flow harmonics' correlations, which characterize the linear and mode-coupled response to the lower-order anisotropies, indicate a beam energy dependence consistent with an influence from the specific shear viscosity ($\eta/s$). In contrast, the dimensionless coefficients, mode-coupled response coefficients, and normalized symmetric cumulants are approximately beam-energy independent, consistent with a significant role from initial-state effects. These measurements could provide unique supplemental constraints to (i) distinguish between different initial-state models and (ii) delineate the temperature ($T$) and baryon chemical potential ($\mu_{B}$) dependence of the specific shear viscosity $\frac{\eta}{s} (T, \mu_B)$., Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures
