Patient-prosthesis mismatch (PPM) is the situation in which the area of an artificial valve is smaller than that of a healthy native valve it replaces. By this definition, all artificial valves demonstrate PPM, but large observational studies and several meta-analyses suggest that it is present in 30-50% of patients after surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR). PPM has an impact on outcomes only when the indexed aortic valve area (AVAi) is ≤0.85cm2/m2 (moderate PPM) or 0.65cm2/m2 (severe PPM), particularly in patients with reduced LVEF. In transcatheter aortic valve replacement, the prevalence of PPM may be as low as 0.1%, and its impact on hard outcomes is not clear. We present a review of the relevant literature together with a framework for the differential diagnosis of increased pressure gradient and reduced area in prosthetic aortic valves and different strategies to reduce the risk of PPM with SAVR.

Pyopneumopericardium is a rare pathology with a poor prognosis. Accurate diagnosis may be difficult and, in very rare cases, can mimic ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). We present the case of a 44-year-old man, with clinical, ECG, and ultrasound criteria of inferior STEMI. Emergency coronary angiography excluded obstructive coronary artery disease. However, a hydroaeric level image in the pericardium drew our attention. The chest computed tomography scan and Gastrografin study confirmed the diagnosis of pyopneumopericardium. An exploratory thoracotomy was performed to drain the liquid from the pericardium, without highlighting a fistulous path. The etiology of the pyopneumopericardium was detected by performing an upper endoscopy, which revealed a complex lesion suggestive for a foreign body perforation, which was treated with a covered esophageal stent. The outcome of the patient was unfavorable despite the complex treatment, with cardiac arrest and death occurring on the 14th day of hospitalization.

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) represents a major cause of mortality in the intensive care unit (ICU). The inflammatory response is escalated by the cytokines and chemokines released by neutrophils, therefore the search for quantifying the impact of this pathophysiological mechanism is imperative. Neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR) are indicators of systemic inflammation, widely accessible, inexpensive, and uncomplicated parameters.

The digitization of the modern world economy causes changes in the way of doing business. Assuming that there is a further increase in competition in domestic and international markets, most companies explain the new technology that produces fundamental changes in all aspects of society and by increasing the world economy. Artificial intelligence (AI) expands business opportunities. Currently, the activities of business organizations also include production and the use of information technology to organize all other types of production and ensure new economic growth. This change is also found in the economy, especially in accounting, analysis and management activities, where new digital technologies are processed and implemented. The impact of digitization is noticeable in all fields of activity in this world, and the field of finance and accounting is no exception to the development of technological changes. Given the fact that professionals are gradually inclined to try to work with new technologies, the present scientific approach suggests analyzing the impact produced by AI technology in the processing of financial-accounting information and obtaining results.

This study employs a bibliometric approach to analyze the landscape of artificial intelligence (AI) components used in performance measurement. As organizations increasingly leverage AI for optimizing processes and decisionmaking, understanding the trends in AI components becomes imperative. The identified AI components are classified based on their roles in enhancing performance measurement, offering insights into the prevalent methodologies and emerging technologies. The bibliometric analysis encompasses a comprehensive review of scholarly articles, conference papers, and patents, systematically exploring the evolving field. In this research, the methodology involves data extraction from reputable academic databases and patent repositories, followed by applying bibliometric techniques to quantify and visualize key aspects. The findings of this study contribute to the existing knowledge by mapping the intellectual structure of AI components for performance measurement.

In the audit of financial statements, the main objective of the auditor is to express an opinion on the accuracy of the reported information, in all significant aspects, in relation to the applicable accounting framework. Although international auditing standards state that auditors are not required to detect financial fraud in audited companies, they must ensure during their engagement that the risk of fraud will not affect the audit opinion. To detect the risk of fraud and reports of accounting manipulation, auditors can use several signal indicators. Practice and literature support that the use of indices to detect accounting manipulation can be achieved through various linear scoring functions including the Beneish Model (1999). In Romania, the problem of assessing the risk of audit fraud has not been adequately addressed, until now. The purpose of this scientific approach is to prevent, analyze and evaluate the risk of fraud, based on the estimated score function and the defined classification interval.

This research holds significant importance in the realm of digital well-being, addressing the increasing concern over digital addiction. By analyzing user feedback on digital well-being systems, the study provides valuable insights into the effectiveness of these systems in moderating digital habits. It contributes to understanding how digital detox applications can mitigate compulsive smartphone use, thereby enhancing mental health. The study stands out for its unique approach to clustering user feedback on two popular digital well-being systems, Space and Google Well-being app. This original approach provides a novel perspective on user interaction with digital well-being tools, distinguishing it from existing literature which primarily focuses on general usage patterns and the impact on mental health. The purpose of this research is to systematically analyze and cluster user feedback on digital well-being systems. It also incorporates information retrieval techniques like topic modeling to extract main topics from these reviews. This methodology allows for an in-depth understanding of user feedback, going beyond mere statistical analysis to capture the nuances of user experiences and expectations. The findings of this research have significant implications for software developers and stakeholders in the digital well-being domain.

This study deals with the preparation and characterization of novel composites accomplished by filling hydroxyethylcellulose with several amounts of bentonite. Molecular modeling enabled understanding the conformational and physicochemical features, which are responsible for the chemical reactivity parameters. Rheological analyses are made to investigate the effect of the polymer loading on the shear flow behavior. The morphology and homogeneity of each system is explored via optical microscopy. The band gap of the samples is slightly reduced by the addition of the bio-filler in the cellulosic medium, as indicated by UV-VIS spectral data. The dielectric response of these materials is extracted from refractometry experiments at several wavelengths. The electric energy density was achieved based on the dielectric properties determined at high and low frequencies. The outcome of this study offers new ways to produce alternative dielectric eco-materials having a good potential of accumulating electrical energy, as demanded for capacitor devices.

Background/Objectives: Today’s high school students often engage in sedentary behavior by choosing passive activities during leisure time. Increasing research shows that regular physical activity (PA) provides benefits beyond physical health, especially important during childhood and adolescence. Our study investigated the association between physical activity levels and academic performance (AP) in Serbian adolescents. Methods: We selected a sample of 836 fourth-grade high school students (avg. 17.9 ± 0.7 years old) who completed the IPAQ (short-version) and the Academic Performance Scale. Data analysis was conducted using IBM SPSS 21.0. Due to non-normal data distribution, Spearman’s correlation was used and hierarchical regression analysis to assess the association between PA and AP. Results: The findings revealed significant correlations between vigorous, moderate and light PA, as well as overall units of metabolic equivalent of task (METs), with AP (p-values: 0.000, 0.005, 0.021, 0.004, respectively), although with weak correlation coefficients (0.127, 0.098, 0.080, 0.181, respectively). Vigorous PA influenced AP by 10.1%, moderate PA by 8.2%, and light PA by 11.4%. Conclusions: These results suggest that adolescents engaging in higher PA levels tend to have better AP. This finding indicates a substantial association between PA levels and AP, with both moderate and vigorous PA showing a positive correlation and influence. Further investigation is necessary to comprehensively grasp the link between light PA and AP.

The material includes several articles inserted in the press from Bucharest (“Universul”, “Curentul”), in the interwar period by the Romanian-Macedonian teacher, archivist, publicist, and national-cultural militant Leon T. Boga (1886–1974), settled in Chișinău after First World War. The articles refer to the historical significance of the Union of Bessarabia with Romania– historical circumstances, stages, personalities, lessons for contemporaries and descendants. In 1927, he expressed his conviction that “Representing the victory of a historical truth, the union, whose the ninth anniversary we celebrate today, is eternal, unchanged like the truth that represents it”; and in 1938, revealing the decision of the Council of the Country of March 27, 1918, of union “forever”, the Romanian patriot emphasizes: “Forever! What a deep meaning these holy words have with which twenty years ago, Moldova from the East returned to the body of the Romanian land. And what a duty we all must understand their interpretation, today, tomorrow... Always!”

Commonly, the disease comprises several clinical features, including high temperature, dry cough, shortness of breath, and hypoxia, associated with findings of interstitial pneumonia on chest X-ray and computer tomography. Nevertheless, severe forms of acute respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) are not limited to the respiratory tract but also may be extended to other systems, including the cardiovascular system. The bi-directional relationship between atherosclerosis and COVID-19 is accompanied by poor prognosis. The immune response hyperactivation due to SARS-CoV-2 infection causes an increased secretion of cytokines, endothelial dysfunction, and arterial stiffness, which promotes the development of atherosclerosis. Also, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, access to healthcare amenities was reduced, resulting in increased morbidity and mortality in patients at risk. Furthermore, as lockdown measures were largely adopted worldwide, the sedentary lifestyle and the increased consumption of processed nutrients or unhealthy food increased, and in the consequence, we might observe even 70% of overweight and obese population. Altogether, with the relatively low ratio of vaccinated people in many countries, and important health debt appeared, which is now and will be for next decade a large healthcare challenge. However, the experience gained in the COVID-19 pandemic and the new methods of patients’ approaching have helped the medical system to overcome this crisis and will hopefully help in the case of new possible epidemics.Keywords: vascular diseases, COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2, endothelial dysfunction, atherosclerosis, arterial stiffness, vaccines

The paper presents the implementation of a feedback loop controller for the suction valves used within the gas compressors skids manufactured by Romanian Research and Development Institute for Gas Turbines COMOTI. These compressors are installed at beneficiaries, in potentially explosive environments (e.g., gas extraction and transportation applications). The proposed solution addresses the problems observed due to the high suction pressures of screw compressors, which may occur at start-up or during operation, leading to failed start-ups or emergency shutdowns. An automatic sequence implemented in the control software and displayed on the operating panel, could assist the operator during high suction pressures (above 1.2 bar). These pressure conditions normally lead to alarm limits and to performing an automatic shutdown sequence for protecting the compressor. The paper herein discusses the implementation of a start-up sequence in the programmable logic controller’s software, which can be applied without critical interventions on the compressor packages, only through minor control software modifications which can safely extend the inlet pressure range and the exploitation of the compressors. Thus, since no hardware modifications are required, we also ensure maintaining the ATEX certifications of equipment and assemblies.

The food segment is diversified and renewed due to the needs, desires, and increased demands of consumers. In the evolution of society, a defining role is the issue of nutrition which is quite complex, wide-ranging and contradictory. The purpose of this study is to identify the behavior of the Romanian bread consumer. It was used as a research method for conducting the case study opinion survey, the research tool being the questionnaire, in online format. In order to make the research as rigorous as possible, it was calculated by means of χ² whether certain variables such as sex, environment, income and age influence consumption.

Dental matrix systems are instruments used in the treatment of simple caries which replace the missing wall of the tooth during restoration. The aim of the study is to evaluate, using a questionnaire-based survey, the most used matrix systems among dentists and dentistry students. Materials and methods: Two hundred and fifty questionnaires containing 8 questions were distributed in electronic and printed format to dentists in Mureș and Harghita countries and dentistry students from 4th to 6th year of study at George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science, and Technology of Târgu Mureș. Postoperative coronary vasospasm is a well-known cause of angina that may lead to myocardial infarction if not treated promptly. We report a case of a 70-year-old female with severe mitral regurgitation submitted to mitral valve replacement, and a history of diabetes mellitus type II, stroke, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura on steroid therapy, and previous percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for severe obstruction of the circumflex coronary artery, 4 months prior to surgery. Immediately after intensive care unit admission, the patient developed pulseless electrical activity which required extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for hemodynamic support. The coronary angiography showed diffuse occlusive coronary artery vasospasm, ameliorated after intra-coronary administration of nitroglycerin. The following postoperative evolution was marked by cardiogenic shock and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. Subsequent echocardiographic findings showed an increase in left ventricular function with an EF of 40%, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support was weaned after seven days. However, after a few hours, the patient progressively deteriorated, with cardiac arrest and no response to resuscitation maneuvers. Hemodynamic instability following the surgical procedure in a patient with previous PCI associated with an autoimmune disease and diabetes mellitus should raise the suspicion of a coronary artery vasospasm.

Regional development is a priority objective of the EU. Reducing gaps and inequalities between European countries or regions requires coordinated efforts through a regional development policy. To make the implementation of regional political measures more efficient, the European territory was divided into regions according to certain territorial division criteria, NUTS. Considering this context, the paper aims to carry out a socioeconomic analysis at the regional level, using the Tempo Online statistical database of the National Institute of Statistics (INS). For this purpose, indicators were used regarding the labor force, the level of living and economic statistics of the development regions in Romania.

Background/Aim: Thorough knowledge of the endodontic anatomy and comprehensive understanding of root canal morphological variations are mandatory to ensure the successful outcome of the endodontic treatment. The purpose of this study was to compare the number of root canals of first and second lower premolars in a selected population to the root canal pattern reported by endodontic literature and to analyze the gender distribution.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is considered the most common sustained arrhythmia. Major cardiovascular risk factors that have been identified to initiate and perpetuate AF include age, sex, arterial hypertension, heart failure, valvular heart disease and diabetes mellitus. In the literature, several studies aimed to formulate easily – applied and accurate risk stratification scores, based on antecedent cardiovascular events, comorbidities and biomarkers for the prediction of new-onset AF. The present narrative review addresses the most universally accepted and efficient clinical scores, with an extended applicability in different populations and ages, particularly scores derived from the Framingham Heart Study, the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities, the Malmo Diet and Cancer Study, as well as the CHARGE-AF, the CHADS2, CHA2DS2-VASc, HATCH and CH2EST scores. Identification of incident AF can be challenging, thus dictating for utilization of validated clinical instruments in everyday clinical practice.

In this study were presented the most important directions to which management accounting -adapted in the last decades in the developed countries and the Romanian management accounting regulations in force now were analyzed to see whether their formulation is unclear, as some researchers stated before. This paper’s authors made a multi-method study through it combining a literature review with an ethnographical content analysis and argued that the wording of Romania’s management accounting regulations are, in part, or unclear or unnecessary and, because of that, presented the proposals made by them for the reformulation of the provisions of the regulations they consider unnecessary or unclear. The data from the accounting regulations were analyzed by a qualitative analysis. The authors concluded that management accounting is mandatory in Romania, according to the actual regulations, but can be organized and managed, according to their provisions, “as appropriate”. The vagueness of the regulations, the necessity of some legal rules and the fact that the role of the accountant involved in external financial reporting, taxation, audit activities, it is much better established by the Romanian law, overshadow the management accounting and the management accountant’s role. By this study, the authors are filling the gap.

Present paper aims to present the steps of developing a prototype used for the display of several functional parameters which does not normally appear on the dashboard of an automobile. Data is collected from the vehicle CAN bus, follow-up processed with a MCP2515 microcontroller and a ATMEGA328P and finally displayed on a color touchscreen. The prototype is a Plug&Play device, which can easily be connected to the vehicle’s OBD2 socket, from where the data is collected. The parameters are shown in an interactive manner, by displaying one or multiple parameters at a time, on a single page.

Introduction. Dental aesthetics, although it seems something relative and difficult to evaluate, it is governed by a series of laws and rules that connect the dental disciplines, creating a unitary whole. It is structured by rules, perfected by artistic sense and by the inclination towards beauty of all specialists in dento-facial cosmetics.

Introduction: Dental fear and anxiety are an important issue affecting children’s oral health and clinical management, and also an insufficiently studied subject in dentistry.

This paper presents a comparative analysis of different battery charging strategies for off-grid solar PV systems. The strategies evaluated include constant voltage charging, constant current charging, PWM charging, and hybrid charging. The performance of each strategy is evaluated based on factors such as battery capacity, cycle life, DOD, and charging efficiency, as well as the impact of environmental conditions such as temperature and sunlight. The results show that each charging strategy has its advantages and limitations, and the optimal approach will depend on the specific requirements and limitations of the off-grid solar PV system. This study provides valuable insights into the performance and effectiveness of different battery charging strategies, which can be used to inform the design and operation of off-grid solar PV systems. This paper concludes that the choice of charging strategy depends on the specific requirements and limitations of the off-grid solar PV system and that a careful analysis of the factors that affect performance is necessary to identify the most appropriate approach. The main needs for off-grid solar photovoltaic systems include efficient energy storage, reliable battery charging strategies, environmental adaptability, cost-effectiveness, and user-friendly operation, while the primary limitations affecting these systems encompass intermittent energy supply, battery degradation, environmental variability, initial investment costs, fluctuations in energy demand, and maintenance challenges, emphasizing the importance of careful strategy selection and system design to address these factors. It also provides valuable insights for designing and optimizing off-grid solar PV systems, which can help to improve the efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of these systems.

Introduction: Spinal cord injury can be a cause of severe disability, with important consequences at the individual and social levels. Causes are often produced by falls or road accidents; and addictions (particularly chronic ethylism) also increase the risk of vertebral-medullary lesions. Materials and Methods: With with the approval of the TEHBA Ethics Commission (no.17464/14.06.2019), we used specific tests (DASS-21, MOS SF-36, SMAST, AUDIT, CAGE, AIS) and we questioned a group of patients admitted to the THEBA Neuro-Muscle Recovery Clinic after being treated in the Spinal Neurosurgery Service for acute and subacute vertebral medullary trauma. Results: We evaluated the link between addictions (especially ethanol), the risk of spinal cord injury, and the underlying subacute evolution of patients with this pathology. Conclusions: Substance abuse (especially ethanol) increases the risk of spinal cord injury and is a serious public health problem.

Introduction: Improper finishing and polishing of fillings leads to surface roughness of the restoration which leads to excessive plaque accumulation, gingival irritation, increased surface staining and poor aesthetics of restored teeth. Therefore, it is essential to use polishing instruments and pastes as a final step of simple caries treatment in order to achieve optimal long-time results. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficiency of 4 different finishing and polishing instruments used for surface smoothening of aesthetic restorative materials in vitro. Materials and methods: 40 composite (Reality X) samples were prepared in vitro. Their surface irregularities were measured along 3 diagonals before and after polishing. Sof-Lex discs (3M Espe), rubber cones (Kenda), Arkansas stone (Fino) and polishing paste and a professional toothbrush (Kerr) were used for polishing. Each sample was polished under 5N pressure for 30 seconds at 3000 rpm. The surface roughness was than measured using a profilometer. We aimed to evaluate the psychological distress associated with work-related experiences among medical professionals and supporting staff during the pandemic outbreak.Patients and Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted between April and May 2020, employing a self-administered on-line questionnaire that included the collection of socio-demographic and professional status information, Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale, nine-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), Maslach Burnout Inventory - General Survey, Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, and a subscale of the International Personality Item Pool (IPIP) for empathy. A total of 364 professionals of the county-coordinated area responded. Descriptive statistics summarized the findings and a mediation model was analyzed, applying the causal step strategy. The specific direct and causal mediation effects were estimated with the bias-corrected and accelerated bootstrap sampling method.Results: Anxiety, burnout, stress, resilience, and empathy proved to be significantly associated with both the professional category (ie, consultant, specialty doctor, trainee doctor, senior nurse, trainee nurse or other) and the perceived professional support (the nonparametric multivariate permutation test resulted in p=0.048 and p< 0.001, respectively). When controlling for the marital and professional status, the female gender had an OR=2.26, 95% CI (1.21; 4.22) toward a high level of empathy compared to males. The causal mediation effect of the perceived lack of professional support on empathy through burnout-depersonalization was highly significant (p< 0.001) with an average of 0.0599, 95% CI (0.0238; 0.10), while the direct effect was non-significant (p=0.536) with an average of 0.0295, 95% CI (− 0.0774; 0.15).Conclusion: We highlighted the impact of the lack of professional support on healthcare workers’ empathy through burnout-depersonalization in a context of a high workload, time pressure, job stress beyond previous training, and inherently limited organizational support, which are potentially modifiable factors in the mid-term.Keywords: healthcare workers, burnout experience, work engagement, mediation model, Maslach Burnout Inventory, PHQ-9

The aim of the paper is to concentrate extracts from olive cakes using innovative technologies based on membranes. Among the modern methods of purification and concentration of biologically active compounds (polyphenolic) in extracts are membrane technologies (microfiltration and ultrafiltration). These technologies, compared to all the other classics, have the advantage of separating, purifying or concentrating a certain compound in a single phase, cold, without the intervention of chemical reagents, with very low energy consumption. Concentrated extracts from olive cakes, obtained by membranes technologies, can be used as tanning and retanning agents, alternative to petroleum origin materials in leather industry. Olive cake is rich in polyphenolic compounds, fats, tannins, non-tannins, possible to be extracted, concentrated, chemical processed in view of developing a new tanning product. The use of new renewable materials from oil industry as biobased tanning material for leather industry represents an important step in lowering carbon footprint of both sectors and complies with circular economy principles. The antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of olive oil cake can be exploited in view of increasing the efficiency of the new product. The paper presents the concentration by membrane technologies and characterisation of five kinds of olive cake water and water-organic solvent extracts as future tanning-retanning materials.

Introduction: X-ray radio imaging is commonly used because most diseases in the oral area can only be diagnosed by using this method. Proper identification of elements on a radiological image may also be difficult due to errors that may occur before, during or after the X-ray. These errors are called artifacts.

Children`s dental anxiety is responsible for increasing dental health problems, as patients avoid seeking treatment. The aim of our study was to evaluate the level of dental anxiety and its correlation with dental health status in a group of children aged between 6-9 years.

The aim of this paper is to assess the influence of some cognitive and affective determinants on happiness, as an essential dimension of life satisfaction or higher quality of life. In this relationship analysis on 30 European countries, we are using the concept of happiness, as an assembly of hedonic and cognitive components, based on Gallup World Poll annual data for a period between 2007 and 2019. From simple observation of data, between countries are obvious big differences in size of the life ladder index, whose score captures the perception from the worst possible life to the best possible life. The econometric estimates reveal that not a reduced impact variables can be responsible for a better or worse happiness, but there is a complex and multidimensional combination of objective and subjective measures underlying the human perceptions on well-being. Interesting, good social relations, positive affect, degree of freedom in decision making, a democratic society and a real institutional trust are elements that support the increase of happiness. Income inequality, corruption or negative emotions are reflected in the perception of a reduced happiness. A relationship unanimously appreciated as being direct between the income level and happiness is partially confirmed by the analysis, a reducing inequality in its distribution being necessary
