Excited states of 65Ga and 67Ga nuclei were populated through the 12C(58Ni, alpha p) and 12C(58Ni, 3p) reactions, respectively, and investigated by in-beam gamma-ray spectroscopic methods. The NORDBALL array equipped with a charged particle ball and 11 neutron detectors was used to detect the evaporated particles and gamma rays. The level schemes of 65, 67Ga were constructed on the basis of gamma gamma-coincidence relations up to 8.6 and 10 MeV excitation energy, and I pi = 27/2 and 33/2 + spin and parity, respectively. The structure of 65, 67Ga nuclei was described in the interacting boson-fermion plus broken pair model, including quasiproton, quasiproton-two-quasineutron and three-quasiproton fermion configurations in the boson-fermion basis states. MOst of the states were assigned to quasiparticle + phonon and three quasiparticle configurations on the basis of their electromagnetic decay properties.

- Abstract
Limitations of the pulse-shape discrimination (PSD) technique - a promising method to identify the charged particIes stopped in planar Si-detectors - have been investigated. The particle resolution turned out to be basically determined by resistivity fluctuations in the buk silicon which cause the charge-collection time to depend on the point of impact. Detector maps showing these fluctuations have been measured and are discussed. Furthermore we present a simple method to test the performance of detectors with respect to PSD. Another limitation of the PSD technique is the finite energy threshold for particle identification. This threshold is caused by an unexpected decrease of the total charge-collection time for ions with a short range, in spite of the fact that the particle tracks are located in a region of very low electric field.

Populations of oribatid mites (Acari: Oribatida) were studied in two sites of periodically inundated forests in central Amazonia: one situated in a seasonal igapo-forest, flooded by black- water and a other situated in a seasonal varzea-forest, flooded by white water. Collections were made during the terrestrial phase using the Kempson extraction. Between 0-3,5 cm of soil depth, the ecological indices, density and the species diversity of the edaphic fauna were all low in the varzea in comparison with the 'igapo' forest. The calculated indices also indicated a gradual colonization by adults in the igapo soil. In the 'varzea' the greatest diversity index was recorded in December, indicating that the fauna recovers gradually, but not following a regular pattern as in the 'igapo'. In the 'varzea' Superior Peripheric Oribatida of the Galumnoid group were dominant (50% of the adult population) and in the igapo the Scheloribatidae/Haplozetidae were dominant (45% of the adult population). There were indications that the varzea is more subject to disturbance by both, environmental pressure and human intervention, than the igapo. The indice of similarity between species was very low; also the indice of dominance demonstrated that neither of the common species from both forest was dominant. In comparison with other ecossistems from central Amazonia clear differences between groups of species of Oribatida were detected. The abundance of oribatid mites in tropical forest soils was lower in comparison with soils of temperate forests. Irrespective of the many species found in tropical forests, the majority of them represent the basic Oribatida which are characterize by a low reproductive rate. In contrast, representatives of the periferic higher Oribatida dominate in temperate soils. They have a high reproductive rate which results in a high number of individuals per specie.

- Abstract
A 4 pi silicon bail for detection and identification of light charged particles in large multidetector gamma-arrays as EUROBALL is presented. The design is based on a N = 42 ball with 12 pentagons and 30 hexagons as used in the GASP array. The absorptive material for gamma-rays is minimized to the detector thickness of 300 or 500 mu m and a 0.63 mm ceramic backing. The geometrical coverage is designed for about 90% of 4 pi. A pulse shape discrimination method with totally depleted detectors working in the reverse mount allows identifying protons and alpha-particles above an energy threshold of about 2 MeV. The performances of the ball were rested at the tandem - booster accelerator combination of the MPI Heidelberg in two experiments using the high-recoil reaction of 228 MeV Ni-58 + Ti-46 and the low-recoil reaction of 95 MeV O-16 + Ni-58. The two-dimensional spectra of zero-crossing (ZC) versus energy confirmed an excellent discrimination of protons and alpha-particles in all the detectors at different angles. The energy spectra of protons and alpha-particles measured in the experiments are presented. too. The gamma-spectra measured in coincidence with various combinations of emitted particles showed a high selectivity of the ball. The reduced total efficiency for protons of 59% and 55% and alpha-particles of 44% and 32% measured in a nuclear spectroscopy application is analyzed in a Monte-Carlo simulation (GEANT). It is due to a combined influence of a thick target needed to stop the recoiling residual nuclei and thick absorbers needed to protect the Si-detectors from scattered beam. The results along with the GEANT extrapolation to optimum experimental conditions confirm that RoSiB is a highly efficient and selective device for identification of rare reaction channels with heavy ions., QC 20100525

- Abstract
High spin states in the neutron deficient nucleus 109Te have been populated with the 58Ni+54Fe reaction at 220 MeV and investigated through γ-spectroscopy methods at the GASP spectrometer making use of reaction channel selection with the ISIS Si-ball. The level scheme has been extended up to an excitation energy of ≈12.1 MeV. The spins and parities of the observed levels are assigned tentatively supporting the identification of two bands of opposite parity connected by strong dipole transitions inferred to be of E1 character. Octupole correlations in 109Te induced by rotation are suggested as the cause of this effect.

- Abstract
Excited states in Cd-98, two proton holes from Sn-100, were identified and studied for the first time, using in-beam spectroscopy with highly selective ancillary detectors. The structure of the (pi g(9/2))(-2) two-proton-hole spectrum below a T-1/2 = 0.48(16) mu s isomer is deduced and compared to shell-model predictions. A tentative I-pi = (8(+)) assignment, as suggested by systematics, yields a strongly reduced B(E2,8(+) --> 6(+)) = 0.44((+20)(-10)) W.u., corresponding to an effective proton charge of e(pi) = 0.85((+20)(-10))e, which is at variance with existing theoretical predictions., NR 2015

- Abstract
The two nuclei Cd-98 and Sn-102, closest neighbours of Sn-100, have been studied with a recoil catcher setup, following the reactions: Ni-58(Ti-46, alpha 2n)Cd-98 and Ni-58(Cr-50, alpha 2n)Sn-102. Long lived isomeric states were measured in Cd-98 I-pi = (8+), t(1/2) = 0.48(8) mu s and in Sn-102 I-pi = (6(+)) with t(1/2) = 1.0(6) mu s. The proposed experimental level schemes of the isomeric decay are presented and compared to the shell model predictions., NR 20151218

- Abstract
New levels in the neutron deficient nuclei Sn-106 and Sn-108 have been investigated by using the NORDBALL detector array combined with charged particle and neutron detectors. The excited structures are discussed in terms of collectivity and the shell model. The excitations are interpreted to be based on d5/2, g7/2 and h(11/2) both for protons and neutrons and g(9/2) for protons. The systematical behaviour of the specific states in the Sn isotopes is studied in the mass range of A = 106-118., NR 20160114

- Abstract
Excited states of 65Ge were populated via the 12C + 58Ni (261 MeV) reaction using the NORDBALL detector array equipped with charged-particle and neutron detector systems for reaction channel separation. On the basis of γγ-coincidence relations and angular distribution ratios a significantly extended level scheme was constructed up to E x = 9 MeV and J π = (33/2−). The low-energy states of the nucleus are discussed in the framework of the interacting boson-fermion model.

- Abstract
Neutron deficient nuclei close to 100Sn have been studied using the NORDBALL Ge-detector array together with ancillary particle detectors. Evaporation residues from the compound nucleus 108Te were identified with charged particle and neutron detectors. In this paper a considerable extension of the level scheme of the nucleus 102Cd is presented. The strongest cascade of the new level scheme reveals an irregular sequence of dipole transitions above Iπ = 10+ extending up to spin 17. A strongly populated rather regular side band consisting of four quadrupole transitions ranging from spin 9 to spin 17 was also discovered. This band was tentatively assigned negative parity. Shell model calculations were performed and a very good agreement with the experimental results was found. The excited states could successfully be interpreted as neutron particle and proton hole excitations with respect to the doubly closed core 50100Sn50.

- Abstract
High-spin states of the isotopes 103,105,107,109In have been investigated using in-beam γ-ray spectroscopic methods. Results from three different experiments are presented. Targets of 54Fe, 50Cr, and 92Mo were bombarded by a 270 and 261 MeV 58Ni beam and by a 95 MeV 19F beam, respectively. Reaction channel separation was achieved with a charged-particle detector array and in the first two experiments also with a 1π neutron detector system. As a result of these experiments the level schemes of 103,105,107,109In were significantly extended. Excited states of these odd-A indium isotopes are discussed within the framework of the nuclear shell model and the hole-core coupling scheme. The systematics of excited states of light odd-A indium isotopes is also discussed.

- Abstract
Experimental data on p-n multiplets appearing in the nuclei near double-magic Sn-100 accesible in heavy-ion fusion-evaporation experiments have been analyzed. Proton-rich nuclei in this region have been investigated using the NORDBALL array. A Ni-58 beams at energies of 270 Mev on Fe-54 and 261 MeV on Cr-50 targets were used. Reaction channel separation was achieved with a 4 pi charged particle multi-detector set-up together with a 1 pi neutron detector wall placed in the forward direction. On the basis of gamma gamma-coincidence and angular correlation relations a level schemes of several light Sn, In, Sb, Te and I nuclei were observed for the first time in the present experiment. The observed structure of nuclei are discussed in the framework of the nuclear shell-model. The p-n multiplets in the A similar to 100 region corresponding to the nucleon pairs with mixed configurations has been considered as a playground for the tests of the T = 0 and T = 1 parts of the effective interaction., NR 2015

- Abstract
Excited states in Sn-102 have been identified for the first time, in an in-beam gamma-ray spectroscopic experiment. Two gamma-ray transitions with energies 1472 and 497 keV following the decay of the seniority 6(+) isomer with t(1/2) = 1.0(5) mu s were unambiguously assigned to Sn-102. Due to the very low cross section of about 2 mu b for producing Sn-102 in the reaction Cr-50(Ni-58,1 alpha 2n), a highly selective detector setup utilizing NORDBALL ancillary detectors and a recoil catcher device was used. High gamma-ray detection efficiency was achieved with two EUROBALL Ge cluster detectors., NR 2015

- Abstract
Six rotational bands up to energies Ex=24.7 MeV and spins Jpi=(79/2-) have been identified in 109Sn using the GAMMASPHERE gamma-detector array. Four of the bands show smoothly decreasing dynamic moments of inertia at rotational frequencies hv > 0.6 MeV. The bands arise at medium spins from coupling of a valence d5/2, g7/2 or h11/2 neutron to the deformed 2p2h proton excitation of the Z=50 core 108Sn. At very high hv these bands show the typical behaviour of smoothly terminating bands, i.e. a gradual alignment of the angular momenta of the valence particles and holes corresponding to a transition from high collectivity to noncollective states.
