This research analyzes the problematic use of mobile phone, the phenomenon of fear of missing Out (FoMO) and the communication between parents and children in students who attend secondary education in public and private centers of the regions of Canary Islands, Balearic Islands and Valencia. The research involved 569 students aged between 12 and 19 years. The instruments used were the «Mobil phone related experiences questionnaire», the Spanish adaptation of the «Fear of missing out questionnaire» and the communication dimension with parents of the «Parents and peers attachment inventory». The results show that: 1) An increased problematic use of the mobile phone is associated with a higher level of FoMO; 2) The students who frequently use the mobile phone and communicate more with their friends have a higher average score in the «Mobile phone related experiences questionnaire» and in the «Fear of missing out questionnaire»; 3) The students that use the mobile phone for less time has a greater communication with fathers and mothers. We discuss the relevance of the study of FoMO and parents-children communication as factors that affect the problematic use of mobile phone in young people. Centers’ guidance teams, families and teachers have to create a common learning space to promote the responsible use of mobile phone.

Internet se ha convertido en protagonista de nuestras comunicaciones sociales. Los adolescentes han encontrado en el smartphone un instrumento único para crear vínculos en un espacio virtual a través de las redes sociales. La posibilidad de interactuar de forma instantánea y continua, crear una imagen social y no depender de espacios físicos puede originar disfunciones en el desarrollo social y afectivo de los adolescentes. Algunas investigaciones sobre el uso inadecuado del teléfono inteligente ponen de manifiesto repercusiones que preocupan a docentes y figuras parentales en el ámbito de la salud, la socialización, la familia y el rendimiento escolar. Se demanda una respuesta de los centros educativos, por ser espacios privilegiados para la prevención de conductas asociadas al uso inadaptado del teléfono inteligente por parte del alumnado. En este artículo se realiza un recorrido por la expansión del uso de internet y redes sociales a través del smartphone, analizando las repercusiones que el uso desadaptado puede tener sobre el desarrollo de los adolescentes. Se propone una respuesta en el marco del plan de acción tutorial, tomando como eje las tutorías e implementando acciones con la participación de profesorado, alumnado y familias, con un carácter holístico e integrado de todas las intervenciones., The Internet has become the protagonist of our social communications. Teenagers have found in the smartphone a unique tool to create bonds in a virtual space through social networks. The possibility of interacting instantaneously and continuously, creating a social image and not depending on physical spaces can originate dysfunctions in the social and affective development of adolescents. Some research on the inappropriate use of smartphones reveals repercussions that concern teachers and parents in the areas of health, socialization, family and school performance. A response is demanded from educational centers as privileged spaces for the prevention of behaviors associated with inappropriate use of smartphones by students. Este artículo analiza cómo las variables contextuales influyen en el desarrollo emocional de seis adolescentes en riesgo de exclusión a través de un estudio de casos múltiples. Los casos seleccionados estaban acogidos al sistema de protección. Los datos del estudio fueron obtenidos a través de técnicas e instrumentos cualitativos (entrevistas semi-estructuradas, grupos de discusión y diario de campo) y cuantitativos (cuestionarios y escalas). Las trayectorias de vida de los adolescentes participantes en esta investigación están marcadas por el desarrollo de características personales como la rigidez de los pensamientos, la falsa creencia de independencia y madurez, la inseguridad sobre las decisiones tomadas, la baja tolerancia a la frustración, el alto nivel de estrés y la ansiedad social, lo cual dificulta la adecuada planificación de sus proyectos vitales. Es necesario implementar en los sistemas de protección de menores en riesgo de exclusión programas educativos y de orientación socioafectiva para: a) prevenir los comportamientos sociales poco asertivos y el desequilibrio emocional, b) mejorar las conductas intra e interpersonales conflictivas, y c) visualizar un futuro al margen del entorno sociofamiliar., Adolescence is a stage of continuous and unavoidable changes where the development of emotional intelligence plays a fundamental role in the transition to adult life. The promotion of emotional intelligence in adolescents at risk of social exclusion is of great relevance given its impact on the life trajectories of these young people. This article analyses how contextual variables influence the emotional development of six adolescents at risk of social exclusion through a multiple case study. The selected cases were covered by the protection system. Data from the study were obtained through qualitative (semi-structured interviews, focus groups and field journal) and quantitative (questionnaires and scales) techniques and instruments. The life trajectories of the adolescents participating in this research are marked by the development of personal characteristics such as rigidity of thoughts, false belief in independence and maturity, insecurity about own decisions, low tolerance to frustration, high level of stress and social anxiety, which makes it difficult to plan their life projects adequately. It is necessary to develop in the protection systems of minors at risk of exclusion, educational programs, and socio-affective guidance in order to: a) prevent social behaviours that are not assertive and emotional imbalance, b) improve intrapersonal and interpersonal conflictive behaviours, and c) visualize a future outside the socio-family environment., Universidad de La Laguna, Cofinanciado por la Comisión Europea a través de la beca de formación e investigación ERASMUS +.

Young people at risk of social exclusion have atypical career paths where they need to cope with marginalization; hence they need to acquire employability skills that allow them to obtain and maintain employment and participate in lifelong learning. The objectives of this work are: a) to analyze the employability skills of young nationals and immigrants leaving the public system of protection and b) to compare their career paths. A study of multiple cases took place. Four Young national and four unaccompanied young sub-Saharan immigrants at risk of exclusion, tutors of their centres and entrepreneurs who supervised the work placements participated in the study. The case selection took three criteria into account: 1) have been in residential care institutions, 2) have been in a job placement program for at least 6 months and 3) are 16-25 years of age. The study data were collected using qualitative and quantitative techniques and instruments. The results of the study show that: a) young immigrants develop a more realistic life design than young nationals; b) finish their social and professional integration program with a higher level of employability skills; c) cope with their transition to adulthood with a better educational level. The data obtained in the investigation show that young immigrants deal with the transition to adulthood in a more successful way than young nationals. We discuss the need to work on the objectives of the life design of young people at risk of exclusion, their support networks and their employability skills in order to consolidate their career paths. Los jóvenes en situación de riesgo de exclusión presentan trayectorias atípicas en las que tienen que hacer frente a la exclusión y la marginación; de ahí la necesidad de que adquieran competencias para la empleabilidad. La adquisición de tales competencias facilitará a estos jóvenes la obtención y mantenimiento de un empleo y les abrirá las puertas al aprendizaje permanente. Los objetivos del trabajo son: a) analizar las competencias de empleabilidad de los jóvenes nacionales e inmigrantes que salen del sistema público de protección y b) comparar sus trayectorias laborales. Se realizó un estudio de casos múltiples en el que participaron cuatro jóvenes nacionales y cuatro jóvenes inmigrantes subsaharianos no acompañados en riesgo de exclusión, los tutores de sus centros y los empresarios que tutorizaron sus prácticas profesionales. La selección de los casos tuvo en cuenta tres criterios: 1) haber estado acogido al sistema de protección, 2) haber estado un mínimo de 6 meses en un programa de inserción laboral y 3) tener entre16-25 años. Los datos del estudio fueron obtenidos mediante técnicas e instrumentos cualitativos y cuantitativos. Los resultados ponen de manifiesto que los jóvenes inmigrantes: a) elaboran proyectos de vida más claros y reales que los jóvenes nacionales; b) finalizan su programa de inserción sociolaboral con un mayor nivel de competencias de empleabilidad; c) afrontan su transición a la vida adulta con una mejor formación. Según los datos de la investigación, los jóvenes inmigrantes afrontan de forma más exitosa la transición a la vida adulta que los jóvenes nacionales. En el artículo se discute la necesidad de trabajar sobre los objetivos del proyecto de vida de los jóvenes en riesgo de exclusión, sus redes de apoyo y sus competencias de empleabilidad para ir consolidando sus trayectorias laborales.

Este trabajo analiza las relaciones entre el autoconcepto académico y el autoconcepto académico percibido con la toma de decisiones de los alumnos de Bachillerato. En la investigación participaron 454 alumnos. El instrumento utilizado fue un cuestionario en el que se incluyó una adaptación para el Bachillerato de las escalas “Qué Opinas de ti Mismo”, “Qué Opinan Tus Padres de Ti” y “Qué Opinan Tus profesores de Ti” de Brookover, Erickson y Joiner (1967). Los análisis estadísticos muestran altas correlaciones entre las variables analizadas. Los alumnos que optan por la Universidad: a) valoran más favorablemente su faceta académica; b) perciben en sus padres y en el profesorado una valoración más positiva de su rendimiento en Bachillerato; c) adoptan una actitud más responsable hacia sus estudios que quienes eligen otra opción. Los resultados aportan interesantes sugerencias para generar estrategias de intervención en los procesos de toma de decisiones académico-laborales This article shows the relationship between academic self‐concept, perceived academic self‐concept, and decision making in Secondary Education. 454 students take part in this research. The instrument used in this article was a questionnaire containing an adaptation “Self‐Concept of Ability General Scale”, “Perceived Parental Evaluation of Ability Scale” and “Perceived Teacher’s Evaluations of Ability Scale” from Brookover, Erickson y Joiner (1967). The statistical analysis shows high correlations between analysed variables. The students who choose the University: a) they value their academic years; b) they become aware a good impression about their parents and teachers and about their high school achievement; c) they adopt a more responsible attitude towards their future studies, from those who choose another option. In the present paper I intend to put forward some inquiries regarding the socio-labor guidance and transition of the young people in the co-ordinates of contemporary society. The outstanding paradox in which some young people are immersed when trying to get a first, second, third employment is also analyzed: "The job of looking for a job". This is a common experience shared by many young people when they try to find a place in the complex labor panorama. Looking for a job is a recurrent situation in contemporary society, given the high dose of precarious employment in which the productive world moves. Life-long jobs belong to the past and what is normal is that people strive to enter the competitive labor market repeatedly. Moreover, the paper offers the partial results of a larger research project that approaches tutorship, decision taking and expectations before the academic-labor future of the studentship in the last years of secondary school. Finally, I suggest some insights in the line that it is not longer feasible to work with old-fashioned guidance, trying to channel people's vocation and offering them information so that they get a job that provides them with the happiness of "doing what you like". Behind these ideas lay the normal biographies, the predictable itineraries. Labor market complexity makes the transition to working life very difficult. En este artículo pretendo plantear algunos interrogantes en torno a la orientación y transición sociolaboral de los jóvenes en las coordenadas de la sociedad contemporánea; se analiza también la tremenda paradoja en la que se ven envueltos muchos jóvenes cuando tratan de acceder a un primer, segundo, tercer... empleo: "El trabajo de buscar trabajo". Esta es una experiencia común y compartida por muchos jóvenes cuando tratan de hacerse un hueco en el complejo panorama laboral. La situación de búsqueda de un puesto de trabajo es recurrente en la sociedad contemporánea, debido a las altas dosis de precariedad laboral en la que se mueve el mundo productivo. Los trabajos para toda la vida pertenecen a una historia pasada y lo normal es que las personas se afanen en hacerse un hueco en el competitivo mercado laboral de forma reiterada. Se ofrece asimismo los resultados parciales de un proyecto de investigación más amplio que aborda la tutoría, la toma de decisiones y las expectativas ante el futuro académico-laboral del alumnado de Bachillerato. Finalmente, se planean algunas reflexiones en la línea de que ya no es tan factible realizar labores de orientación a la antigua usanza, tratando de encauzar la vocación de las personas y ofreciéndoles información para que consigan un puesto de trabajo que les proporcione la felicidad de "trabajar en lo que a uno le gusta". Detrás de estas ideas subyacían las biografías normales, los itinerarios predecibles. La complejidad del mercado laboral hace harto difícil la transición a la vida activa.
