The article looks at the transformation of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in the years following the financial crisis of 2008 with a focus on the role of SEC attorney Sanjay Wadhwa in the investigation of insider trading at the hedge fund management firm Galleon Group. The SEC has also settled lawsuits against investment banking companies including J.P. Morgan Securities, Wachovia Capital Markets, and Goldman Sachs. Topics include changes in SEC statistical analysis, stricter enforcement of SEC laws and regulations, and the effect of political administrations on the power and budget of the SEC.
