Search

An overview of the significant contributions made by the Aligarh group in the field of neutrino physics has been provided. The group's work began with the study of quasielastic neutrino scattering on deuterium, specifically the process $\nu_\mu + d \rightarrow \mu^- + p +p$, focusing on moderate neutrino energies within the impulse approximation framework in order to analyze the early experiments at ANL and BNL with deuterium filled bubble chambers. These studies were later extended to numerically calculate (anti)neutrino interaction cross sections for the inclusive quasielastic scattering from nuclei using local density approximation~(LDA), incorporating nucleon-nucleon correlations for moderate to heavy nuclear targets. The inelastic scattering cross sections for one pion production and the deep inelastic scattering~(DIS) from nuclei have been obtained using LDA with multi nucleon correlation effects. In the case of single pion production, the final state interaction of the pions with the residual nucleus has also been taken into account. In addition, the group has explored other inelastic processes of kaon and eta meson production, in the (anti)neutrino interactions with the nucleon targets. Furthermore, we have investigated electron and positron scattering off proton targets in the intermediate energy range, focusing on polarization observables and T-noninvariance. Our research has also delved into polarized electron scattering to explore the possibility of observing parity-violating asymmetry (PVA) in elastic and deep inelastic scattering, among other related topics. The group has also contributed to the study of atmospheric neutrino flux in the cosmic ray interactions, relevant for various sites of the neutrino oscillation experiments with atmospheric neutrinos., Comment: 8 pages Submitted to Eur. In this work, we study the charged current induced neutrino and antineutrino scattering from the free nucleon target. This study has been performed in the energy range of a few GeV, relevant for the (anti)neutrino oscillation experiments with accelerator and atmospheric neutrinos. For a few GeV neutrino, the contribution to the cross section mainly comes from the quasielastic, the inelastic production of mesons like pion, kaon, eta, and hyperons as well as from the deep inelastic scattering by the weak currents in $\Delta S$=0 and $\Delta S$=1 sectors. The numerical results are presented for the $Q^2$ distribution of the differential cross section for all the aforementioned processes. EPR steering is a nonclassical correlation that exhibits properties intermediate to entanglement and Bell nonlocality, providing a valuable resource for quantum communication and computation. In this work, we propose a theoretical scheme to investigate stationary gaussian quantum steering, entanglement and Gaussian geometric discord of two spatially separated rotating mirrors (Rms) in a double-Laguerre-Gaussian cavity (DLGC). Each cavity is derived by Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) beam, and a Yttrium Iron Garnet sphere (YIG) is injected in the intersection of the two cavities. We employ Gaussian quantum steering to characterize the steerability between the Rms. The logarithmic negativity measure is used to quantify the amount of entanglement. We quantify all nonclassical correlations between the Rms by harnessing the Gaussian geometric discord (GGD) measure. Our results indicate that various physical parameters, including the temperature, detuning of the magnon mode frequency, orbital angular momentum (OAM) of the LG cavity modes, the coupling between magnon and cavity mode, the mass of the Rms, each play distinct roles in establishing ${\rm Rm_1-Rm_2}$ entanglement. We characterize the entanglement of the two Rms under ambient temperature (300 K). Stationary entanglement is optimal by adjusting the values of Rms frequency and photon-magnon coupling. We show that the stationary entanglement is fragile under thermal effects. Besides, the GGD demonstrates strong resilience to thermal noise, and this can be further enhanced by increasing the mass of the Rms. Under experimentally accessible parameters and with adjusted ratio between the angular frequencies, we achieve both one-way and two-way steering. Finally, we address the feasibility of our proposal based on the present experiments.

We have studied the deep inelastic scattering of polarized charged leptons from polarized nucleon targets and evaluated the polarized structure functions $g_{1,2}(x,Q^2)$ for protons and neutrons as well as the nucleon asymmetries $A_{1p}(x,Q^2)$ and $A_{2p}(x,Q^2)$ for protons. The higher order perturbative corrections up to the next-to-next-to-the-leading order (NNLO) using the parameterization of LSS05 polarized parton distribution functions in the 3-flavor MSbar scheme and the nonperturbative corrections viz. the twist-3 corrections and target mass corrections (TMC) have been included in the calculations. The numerical results for the polarized nucleon structure functions and the proton asymmetries are presented and compared with the experimental results. The sum rule integrals of the nucleon structure functions corresponding to the Ellis-Jaffe, Bjorken, Gottfried and Burkhardt-Cottingham sum rules have been evaluated numerically and are compared with the experimental results., Comment: 22 pages, 13 figures

The charged current weak production of $\Delta (1232)$ from the free proton target induced by the electron/positron in the intermediate energy range corresponding to the beam energy available at JLab and Mainz, has been studied. The results for the differential scattering cross section $\frac{d\sigma}{dQ^2}$, the angular distribution $\frac{d\sigma}{d\Omega_{\Delta}}$, and the total scattering cross section $\sigma(E_e)$ for both the electron and positron induced processes are presented, for the various energies in the range of 0.5--4~GeV. The cross section $\sigma(E_e)$ is found to be of the order of $10^{-39}$~cm$^{2}$ for the electron/positron energies in the few GeV range. The availability of electron/positron beams having well defined energy and direction with very high luminosity of the order of $10^{38}-10^{39}$~cm$^{-2}$~sec$^{-1}$, makes it possible to observe the weak charged current production of $\Delta(1232)$ and determine the axial vector form factors $C_{i}^{A} (Q^2);~(i=3-5)$. The sensitivity of the differential cross section $\frac{d\sigma}{dQ^2}$ to the subdominant form factors $C_{3}^{A}(Q^2)$ and $C_{4}^{A} (Q^2)$ is found to be strong enough, especially in the low $Q^2$ region, which can be used to determine them phenomenologically and to test the various theoretical models proposed to calculate them., Comment: 21 pages, 9 figures, and 1 table

We propose a scheme for the generation of nonreciprocal multipartite entanglement in a two-mode cavity magnomechanical system, consisting of two cross microwave (MW) cavities having an yttrium iron garnet (YIG) sphere, which is coupled through magnetic dipole interaction. Our results show that the magnon self-Kerr effect can significantly enhance bipartite entanglement, which turns out to be non-reciprocal when the magetic field is tuned along the crystallographic axis [110]. This is due to the frequency shift on the magnons (YIG sphere), which depends upon the direction of magnetic field. Interestingly, the degree of nonreciprocity of entanglement depends upon a careful optimal choice of system parameters like normalizd cavity detunings, bipartite nonlinear index $\Delta E_{K}$, self-Kerr coefficient and effective magnomechanical coupling rate $G$. In addition to bipartite entanglement, we also explored the nonreciprocity in tripartite entanglement. Low-disorder two-dimensional electron systems in the presence of a strong, perpendicular magnetic field terminate at very small Landau level filling factors in a Wigner crystal (WC), where the electrons form an ordered array to minimize the Coulomb repulsion. The nature of this exotic, many-body, quantum phase is yet to be fully understood and experimentally revealed. Here we probe one of WC's most fundamental parameters, namely the energy gap that determines its low-temperature conductivity, in record-mobility, ultra-high-purity, two-dimensional electrons confined to GaAs quantum wells. The WC domains in these samples contain $\simeq$ 1000 electrons. The measured gaps are a factor of three larger than previously reported for lower quality samples, and agree remarkably well with values predicted for the lowest-energy, intrinsic, hyper-corelated bubble defects in a WC made of flux-electron composite fermions, rather than bare electrons. The agreement is particularly noteworthy, given that the calculations are done for disorder-free composite fermion WCs, and there are no adjustable parameters. The results reflect the exceptionally high quality of the samples, and suggest that composite fermion WCs are indeed more stable compared to their electron counterparts.

Owing to their large effective mass, strong and tunable spin-orbit coupling, and complex band-structure, two-dimensional hole systems (2DHSs) in GaAs quantum wells provide rich platforms to probe exotic many-body physics, while also offering potential applications in ballistic and spintronics devices, and fault-tolerant topological quantum computing. We present here a systematic study of molecular-beam-epitaxy grown, modulation-doped, GaAs (001) 2DHSs where we explore the limits of low-temperature 2DHS mobility by optimizing two parameters, the GaAs quantum well width and the alloy fraction ($x$) of the flanking Al$_x$Ga$_{1-x}$As barriers. We obtain a breakthrough in 2DHS mobility, with a peak value $\simeq 18 \times 10^6$ cm$^2$/Vs at a density of 3.8 $\times$ 10$^{10}$ /cm$^{2}$, implying a mean-free-path of $\simeq 57 \mu$m. Using transport calculations tailored to our structures, we analyze the operating scattering mechanisms to explain the non-monotonic evolution of mobility with density. We find it imperative to include the dependence of effective mass on 2DHS density, well width, and $x$. Single-component fractional quantum Hall states (FQHSs) at even-denominator filling factors may host non-Abelian quasiparticles that are considered to be building blocks of topological quantum computers. Such states, however, are rarely observed in the lowest-energy Landau level, namely at filling factors $\nu<1$. Here we report evidence for an even-denominator FQHS at $\nu=1/4$ in ultra-high-quality two-dimensional hole systems confined to modulation-doped GaAs quantum wells. We observe a deep minimum in the longitudinal resistance at $\nu=1/4$, superimposed on a highly insulating background, suggesting a close competition between the $\nu=1/4$ FQHS and the magnetic-field-induced, pinned Wigner solid states. Our experimental observations are consistent with the very recent theoretical calculations which predict that substantial Landau level mixing, caused by the large hole effective mass, can induce composite fermion pairing and lead to a non-Abelian FQHS at $\nu=1/4$. We have studied neutral and charged current (anti)neutrino induced $\eta$ production off the free nucleon target at MicroBooNE energies, in the light of recent results reported by the MicroBooNE collaboration for the total $\eta$ production cross section. This study has been made using a theoretical model in which the weak hadronic current receives contribution from the nonresonant Born terms as well as from the resonance excitations. The Born terms are obtained using the SU(3) symmetric chiral model, used earlier in the study of $K-$meson production. The contribution from the resonance terms is considered from the excitation of five nucleon resonances viz. $S_{11}(1535)$, $S_{11}(1650)$, $P_{11}(1710)$, $P_{11}(1880)$, and $S_{11}(1895)$. To fix the parameters of the vector current interaction, this model is first used to study the electromagnetic production of $\eta$ mesons induced by real and virtual photons, and the theoretical results have been compared with the data from the MAINZ and JLab experiments. The partially conserved axial-vector current hypothesis and generalized Goldberger-Treiman relation are used to fix the parameters of the axial-vector current interaction. The results are presented for the total cross section for the neutral and charged current induced $\eta$ production, ratio of the cross sections for the charged current to neutral current, MicroBooNE flux averaged cross section $\langle \sigma \rangle$, $\left \langle \frac{d\sigma}{dQ^2} \right\rangle$ and $\left\langle \frac{d\sigma}{dp_\eta} \right\rangle$, which may be useful in the future analysis of MicroBooNE as well as other accelerator and atmospheric neutrino experiments being performed in the ${\cal O}$(1)~GeV energy region., Comment: Physical Review D (in press). arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:2211.08830

We have studied the tau-lepton polarization in the charged current $\nu_\tau/\bar\nu_\tau$ induced deep inelastic scattering (DIS) from the free nucleon as well as off the nuclear targets that are being used in ongoing and proposed experiments such as IceCube, DUNE, etc. For the free nucleon target, the differential scattering cross sections are obtained by taking into account the non-perturbative effect like target mass corrections (TMC) and the perturbative effect like the evolution of the parton densities at the next-to-leading order (NLO) in the four flavor $\overline{\textrm{MS}}-$scheme. In the case of nucleons bound inside a nuclear target, we have incorporated the nuclear medium effects such as Fermi motion, binding energy and nucleon correlations, through the use of nucleon spectral function. We shall present the results for the differential scattering cross sections and the longitudinal and transverse components of the tau-lepton polarization assuming time reversal invariance., Comment: 20 pages and 11 figures

We theoretically investigate a scheme to entangle two squeezed magnon modes in a double cavitymagnon system, where both cavities are driven by a two-mode squeezed vacuum microwave field. Each cavity contains an optical parametric amplifier as well as a macroscopic yttrium iron garnet (YIG) sphere placed near the maximum bias magnetic fields such that this leads to the excitation of the relevant magnon mode and its coupling with the corresponding cavity mode. We have obtained optimal parameter regimes for achieving the strong magnon-magnon entanglement and also studied the effectiveness of this scheme towards the mismatch of both the cavity-magnon couplings and decay parameters. We have also explored the entanglement transfer efficiency including Gaussian quantum steering in our proposed system

We theoretically propose a scheme to generate distant bipartite entanglement between various subsystems in coupled magnomechanical systems where both the microwave cavities are coupled through single photon hopping parameter. Each cavity also contains a magnon mode and phonon mode and this gives five excitation modes in our model Hamiltonian which are cavity-1 photons, cavity-2 photons, magnon, and phonon modes in both YIG spheres. We found that significant bipartite entanglement exists between indirectly coupled subsystems in coupled microwave cavities for an appropriate set of parameters regime. Moreover, we also obtain suitable cavity and magnon detuning parameters for a significant distant bipartite entanglement in different bipartitions. In addition, it can be seen that a single photon hopping parameter significantly affects both the degree as well as the transfer of quantum entanglement between various bipartitions. Hence, our present study related to coupled microwave cavity magnomechanical configuration will open new perspectives in coherent control of various quantum correlations including quantum state transfer among macroscopic quantum systems

Sign language is a visual language that enhances communication between people and is frequently used as the primary form of communication by people with hearing loss. Even so, not many people with hearing loss use sign language, and they frequently experience social isolation. Therefore, it is necessary to create human-computer interface systems that can offer hearing-impaired people a social platform. Most commercial sign language translation systems now on the market are sensor-based, pricey, and challenging to use. Although vision-based systems are desperately needed, they must first overcome several challenges. Earlier continuous sign language recognition techniques used hidden Markov models, which have a limited ability to include temporal information. To get over these restrictions, several machine learning approaches are being applied to transform hand and sign language motions into spoken or written language. In this study, we compare various deep learning techniques for recognising sign language. We analytically investigate the Fano-type optical response and four-wave mixing (FWM) process by exploiting the magnetoelasticity of a ferromagnetic material. The deformation of the ferromagnetic material plays the role of mechanical displacement, which is simultaneously coupled to both optical and magnon modes. We report that the magnetostrictively induced displacement demonstrates Fano profiles, in the output field, which is well-tuned by adjusting the system parameters, like effective magnomechanical coupling, magnon detuning, and cavity detuning. It is found that the magnetoelastic interaction also gives rise to the FWM phenomenon. The number of the FWM signals mainly depends upon the effective magnomechanical coupling and the magnon detuning. Moreover, the FWM spectrum exhibits suppressive behavior upon increasing (decreasing) the magnon (cavity) decay rate. Fractional quantum Hall states (FQHSs) at even-denominator Landau level filling factors ($\nu$) are of prime interest as they are predicted to host exotic, topological states of matter. We report here the observation of a FQHS at $\nu=1/2$ in a two-dimensional electron system of exceptionally high quality, confined to a wide AlAs quantum well, where the electrons can occupy multiple conduction-band valleys with an anisotropic effective mass. The anisotropy and multi-valley degree of freedom offer an unprecedented tunability of the $\nu=1/2$ FQHS as we can control both the valley occupancy via the application of in-plane strain, and the ratio between the strengths of the short- and long-range Coulomb interaction by tilting the sample in the magnetic field to change the electron charge distribution. Thanks to this tunability, we observe phase transitions from a compressible Fermi liquid to an incompressible FQHS and then to an insulating phase as a function of tilt angle. We find that this evolution and the energy gap of the $\nu=1/2$ FQHS depend strongly on valley occupancy.

We address a scheme to enhance the quantum correlations in cavity opto-magnomechanical system by using the coherent feedback loop in the presence of magnon squeezing. The proposed coherent feedback-control allows a significant enhancement of the entanglement of three bipartite subsystems, i.e., photon-phonon, photon-magnon and phonon-magnon. We also study the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering and one-way steering in the presence of thermal effects without imposing additional conditions of asymmetric losses or noises in the subsystems. Furthermore, we investigate the sensitiveness of the scheme to the magnon squeezing, and its performance in non-ideal situations in which losses and noises are taken into account., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures

Electrons' multiple quantum degrees of freedom can lead to rich physics, including a competition between various exotic ground states, as well as novel applications such as spintronics and valleytronics. Here we report magneto-transport experiments demonstrating how the valley degree of freedom impacts the fractional quantum states (FQHSs), and the related magnetic-flux-electron composite fermions (CFs), at very high magnetic fields in the extreme quantum limit when only the lowest Landau level is occupied. Unlike in other multivalley two-dimensional electron systems such as Si or monolayer graphene and transition-metal dichalcogenides, in our AlAs sample we can continuously tune the valley polarization via the application of in-situ strain. We find that the FQHSs remain exceptionally strong even as they make valley polarization transitions, revealing a surprisingly robust ferromagnetism of the FQHSs and the underlying CFs. Our observation implies that the CFs are strongly interacting in our system. We are also able to obtain a phase diagram for the FQHS and CF valley polarization in the extreme quantum limit as we monitor transitions of the FHQSs with different valley polarizations.

The charged current (anti)neutrino induced eta production from the nucleons is studied in a model based on the effective Lagrangians to evaluate the contribution from the nonresonant and resonant diagrams. The contribution from the nonresonant background terms has been obtained using a microscopic model based on the SU(3) chiral Lagrangians. The contribution from the resonant diagrams due to the low lying $S_{11}(1535)$, $S_{11} (1650)$, and $P_{11} (1710)$ resonances has been evaluated using an effective phenomenological Lagrangian with its parameters determined from the experimental values of their branching ratios and decay widths to the $N\eta$ channel. The model is first used to reproduce satisfactorily the experimental data from the MAINZ and JLab on the total cross sections for the photo- and electro- production of $\eta$ mesons, which fixes the model parameters in the vector current interaction. The PCAC hypothesis and generalized Goldberger-Treiman relation are used to fix the parameters of the axial vector interaction. The model is then applied to study the weak production of eta mesons induced by the neutrinos and antineutrinos, and predicts the numerical values for the $Q^2$-distribution, $\eta$-momentum distribution, and the total cross section for the reactions $\nu_{\mu} + n \longrightarrow \mu^{-} + p + \eta$ and $\bar{\nu}_{\mu} + p \longrightarrow \mu^+ + n + \eta$ in the energy region up to 2 GeV. It is found that the photo, electro, and (anti)neutrino production of eta mesons is dominated by the contribution from the $S_{11}(1535)$ resonance. Fractional quantum Hall states (FQHSs) exemplify exotic phases of low-disorder two-dimensional (2D) electron systems when electron-electron interaction dominates over the thermal and kinetic energies. Particularly intriguing among the FQHSs are those observed at even-denominator Landau level filling factors, as their quasi-particles are generally believed to obey non-Abelian statistics and be of potential use in topological quantum computing. Such states, however, are very rare and fragile, and are typically observed in the excited Landau level of 2D electron systems with the lowest amount of disorder. Here we report the observation of a new and unexpected even-denominator FQHS at filling factor {\nu} = 3/4 in a GaAs 2D hole system with an exceptionally high quality (mobility). Our magneto-transport measurements reveal a strong minimum in the longitudinal resistance at {\nu} = 3/4, accompanied by a developing Hall plateau centered at (h/e2)/(3/4). This even-denominator FQHS is very unusual as it is observed in the lowest Landau level and in a 2D hole system. We study the behaviour of the second-order correlation function in a double cavity optomechanical system and a degenerate optical parametric amplifier (OPA) is placed in each cavity. The first cavity is additionally driven by a weak classical laser field. The occurrence of strong photon antibunching effect in these two coupled cavities is observed. For suitable values of optomechanical coupling strength as well as photon hopping process, the system can exhibit a very strong photon antibunching effect. Our study also shows that the unconventional photon blockade occurs in both coupling, i.e. the weak coupling as well as in the strong coupling regimes as compared to the conventional photon blockade which occurs only in the strong coupling regime. We get a very strong photon antibunching effect under the unconventional photon blockade mechanism than the conventional photon blockade mechanism. We have presented a review of the properties of neutrinos and their interactions with matter. The different (anti)neutrino processes like the quasielastic scattering, inelastic production of mesons and hyperons, and the deep inelastic scattering from the free nucleons are discussed and the results for the scattering cross sections are presented. The polarization observables for the leptons and hadrons produced in the final state, in the case of quasielastic scattering, are also studied. The importance of nuclear medium effects in the low, intermediate and high energy regions, in the above processes along with the processes of the coherent neutrino-nucleus scattering, coherent meson production, and trident production, have been highlighted. In some cases the results of the cross sections are also given and compared with the available experimental data as well as with the predictions in the different theoretical models. This study would be helpful in understanding the (anti)neutrino interaction cross section with matter in the few GeV energy region relevant to the next generation experiments like DUNE, Hyper-Kamiokande, and other experiments with accelerator and atmospheric neutrinos. The complex band structure, large spin-orbit induced band splitting, and heavy effective mass of two-dimensional (2D) hole systems hosted in GaAs quantum wells render them rich platforms to study many-body physics and ballistic transport phenomena. Here we report ultra-high-quality (001) GaAs 2D hole systems, fabricated using molecular beam epitaxy and modulation doping, with mobility values as high as $5.8\times10^6$ cm$^2$/Vs at a hole density of $p=1.3\times10^{11}$ /cm$^2$, implying a mean-free path of $\simeq27$ $\mu$m. In the low-temperature magnetoresistance trace of this sample, we observe high-order fractional quantum Hall states up to the Landau level filling $\nu=12/25$ near $\nu=1/2$. Furthermore, we see a deep minimum develop at $\nu=1/5$ in the magnetoresistance of a sample with a much lower hole density of $p=4.0\times10^{10}$ /cm$^2$ where we measure a mobility of $3.6\times10^6$ cm$^2$/Vs. These improvements in sample quality were achieved by reduction of residual impurities both in the GaAs channel and the AlGaAs barrier material, as well as optimization in design of the sample structure., Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures

We describe a versatile pipeline for processing the data collected by the Ultra-Violet Imaging Telescope (UVIT) on board Indian Multi-wavelength astronomical satellite AstroSat.The UVIT instrument carries out simultaneous astronomical imaging through selected filters / gratings in Far-Ultra-Violet (FUV), Near-Ultra-Violet & visible (VIS) bands of the targeted circular sky field (~ 0.5 deg dia). This pipeline converts the data (Level-1) emanating from UVIT in their raw primitive format supplemented by inputs from the spacecraft sub-systems into UV sky images (& slitless grating spectra) and associated products readily usable by astronomers (Level-2). The primary products include maps of Intensity (rate of photon arrival), error on Intensity and effective Exposure. The pipeline is open source, extensively user configurable with many selectable parameters and its execution is fully automated. The key ingredients of the pipeline includes - extraction of drift in pointing of the spacecraft, and disturbances in pointing due to internal movements; application of various corrections to measured position in the detector for each photon - e.g. differential pointing with respect to a reference frame for shift and add operation, systematic effects and artifacts in the optics of the telescopes and detectors, exposure tracking on the sky, alignment of sky products from multi-episode exposures to generate a consolidated set and astrometry. Detailed logs of operations and intermediate products for every processing stage are accessible via user selectable options. While large number of selectable parameters are available for the user, a well characterized standard default set is used for executing this pipeline at the Payload Operation Centre (POC) for UVIT and selected products are archived and disseminated by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) through its ISSDC portal., Comment: Accepted for publication in Journal of Astrophysics & Astronomy, 50 pages, 16 figures
