Abstract

BACKGROUND: The natural history of primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) among African Americans (AA) is not well understood. METHODS: Transplant-free survival and hepatic decompensation-free survival were assessed using a retrospective research registry from 16 centers throughout North America. Patients with PSC alive without liver transplantation after 2008 were included. Diagnostic delay was defined from the first abnormal liver test to the first abnormal cholangiogram/liver biopsy. Socioeconomic status was imputed by the Zip code. RESULTS: Among 850 patients, 661 (77.8%) were non-Hispanic Whites (NHWs), and 85 (10.0%) were AA. There were no significant differences by race in age at diagnosis, sex, or PSC type. Inflammatory bowel disease was more common in NHWs (75.8% vs. 51.8% p=0.0001). The baseline (median, IQR) Amsterdam-Oxford Model score was lower in NHWs (14.3, 13.4-15.2 vs. 15.1, 14.1-15.7, p=0.002), but Mayo risk score (0.03, -0.8 to 1.1 vs. 0.02, -0.7 to 1.0, p=0.83), Model for End-stage Liver Disease (5.9, 2.8-10.7 vs. 6.4, 2.6-10.4, p=0.95), and cirrhosis (27.4% vs. 27.1%, p=0.95) did not differ. Race was not associated with hepatic decompensation, and after adjusting for clinical variables, neither race nor socioeconomic status was associated with transplant-free survival. Abstract

Since their inception in 2014, Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) have rapidly emerged as powerful tools for generating realistic and diverse data across various domains, including computer vision and other applied areas. Consisting of a discriminative network and a generative network engaged in a Minimax game, GANs have revolutionized the field of generative modeling. In February 2018, GAN secured the leading spot on the ``Top Ten Global Breakthrough Technologies List'' issued by the Massachusetts Science and Technology Review. Over the years, numerous advancements have been proposed, leading to a rich array of GAN variants, such as conditional GAN, Wasserstein GAN, CycleGAN, and StyleGAN, among many others. This survey aims to provide a general overview of GANs, summarizing the latent architecture, validation metrics, and application areas of the most widely recognized variants. We also delve into recent theoretical developments, exploring the profound connection between the adversarial principle underlying GAN and Jensen-Shannon divergence, while discussing the optimality characteristics of the GAN framework. The efficiency of GAN variants and their model architectures will be evaluated along with training obstacles as well as training solutions. In addition, a detailed discussion will be provided, examining the integration of GANs with newly developed deep learning frameworks such as Transformers, Physics-Informed Neural Networks, Large Language models, and Diffusion models. Finally, we reveal several issues as well as future research outlines in this field.

47. Discerning genetic diversity among sunflower germplasm accessions through multivariate analysis

Abstract

The objective of the present investigation was to evaluate 135 sunflower germplasm accessions through Principal Component Analysis and Hierarchical cluster analysis to assess the extent of genetic diversity. The principal components with eigen values more than one i.e., PC1 and PC2 describes 38.3% and 21.24% respectively with a cumulative effect of 59.62% of the total variation. The biplot analysis revealed positive association of seed yield per plant for 100 seed weight, head diameter, days to 50% flowering and it was negatively associated with oil content. By using Wards method of clustering, 135 sunflower accessions were aggregated in 12 clusters based on different traits in which cluster VIII includes 30 accessions and is the largest one. The accessions in cluster IV, I and VI had maximum values for 100 seed weight, seed yield per plant and oil content, respectively. The germplasm accessions 213R, 121R, RHA-GPR-110, CMS-107B, IB-11-3, SCG-107, 132R, NGM-15 and OPH-123 were identified to be potential accessions and these can be used for improvement of yield and its attributing traits in sunflower.
