The fragment yields from the multifragmentation of gold, lanthanum, and krypton nuclei obtained by the EOS Collaboration are examined in terms of Fisher's droplet formalism modified to account for Coulomb energy. The critical exponents sigma and tau and the surface energy coefficient c(0) are obtained. Estimates are made of the pressure-temperature and temperature-density coexistence curve of finite neutral nuclear matter as well as the location of the critical point.

Light pulses seen by photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) after propagation within long scintillator slats or rods, or large disc-shaped scintillators are investigated and compared with those from point-like scintillators. The selection and designation of an aimpoint on a known type of target appearing in the field of view of a video tracking system imaging sensor is accomplished by (a) developing binary target patterns from quantized sensor data generated in the video tracking system video preprocessor; (b) measuring the moments of the target patterns; (c) developing and storing a target reference pattern data base; (d) computing from real time binary coding and moment measurement data and from the stored target reference pattern data base an ensemble of estimated aimpoints; (e) testing the validity of the estimated aimpoints; and (f) averaging valid estimated aimpoints to provide an output aimpoint signal. Mechanization of the invention comprehends the use of video tracking system functions to provide quantized binary coded target patterns and the use of dedicated accumulators to generate pattern moment measurements. Two experiments bave been, recently, carried out at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory Bevalac Hiss facility: the EOS and the TRANSPORT experiments. $EOS experiment.$ The EOS collaboration has completed an exclusive study of relativistic heavy ion collisions at the Bevalac using a variety of projectile, target and beam energy combinations. Energy spectra of hydrogen and helium isotopes emitted in Au+Au collisions at energies ranging from 0.25 to 1.15 GeV/A have been measured. A systematic study of the shapes of the spectra reveals a significant non-thermal component consistent with collective radial flow. Comparison of the flow signai to predictions of QMD and BUU models are made. The moments of the resulting charged fragment distribution provide evidence that nuclear matter possesses a critical point observable in finite nuclei. Values for critical exponents gamma, beta and tau bave been determined these values are close to those for liquid-gas systems and different from those for 3D percolation. $Transport experiment.$ A liquid hydrogen target was used to study nuclear fragmentation of beams of relativistic heavy ions, over an energy range 400 to 900 MeV/A. The experiment was carried out at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory Bevalac Hiss facility, using the charge-velocity-rigidity method to identify the charged fragments. Here we present total charge-changing cross sections obtained from 17 separate runs. These new measured cross sections display an energy dependence which follows semiempirical model predictions. The isospin of the projectiie nuclei also appears to be an important factor in the interaction process.

We have also determined the associated electric pulses produced by photomultipliers (PMT). The results of experimental tests of the disc-shaped configuration, done using the singie photon counting technique, are presented and compared with numerical calculation.
