Abstract

The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons, often referred to as quark/gluon tagging, plays an important role in various analyses performed at the Large Hadron Collider, as Standard Model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced background. This paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration, using √s = 13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb−1 collected by the ATLAS experiment. Two taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied: one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet, and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree. A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data, by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet pseudorapidity. Differences in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.

Abstract

ABSTRACTOur world is wonderful because of the normal but negligibly small baryonic part (i.e. atoms) although unknown dark matter and dark energy dominate the Universe. A stable atomic nucleus could be simply termed as ‘strong matter’ since its nature is dominated by the fundamental strong interaction. Is there any other form of strong matter? Although nuclei are composed of 2-flavoured (i.e. up and down flavours of valence quarks) nucleons, it is conjectured that bulk strong matter could be 3-flavoured (with additional strange quarks) if the baryon number exceeds the critical value, Ac in which case quarks could be either free (so-called strange quark matter) or localized (in strangeons, coined by combining ‘strange nucleon’). Bulk strong matter could be manifested in the form of compact stars, cosmic rays, and even dark matter. This trinity will be explained in this brief review that may impact dramatically on today’s physics, particularly in the era of multi-messenger astronomy after the discovery of gravitational wave.

Abstract

The unclear verse "Three Quarks for Muster Mark!", introduced by James Joyce (1882--1941) to his novel entitled Finnegans Wake (first published in 1939), was a literary source for the English word quark denoting 'an elementary particle with a fractional electric charge that is part of a proton, neutron or other interacting elementary particle'. The American physicist Murray Gell-Mann, winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1969, was the first researcher to introduce the English word quark into scientific terminology as early as in 1964. After accepting his hypothesis of quarks in the world science, most physicists adopted the English term quark as standard in the physical terminology of most international languages (e.g. French quark, German Quark, Italian quark, Polish kwark, Portugal quark, Russian ..., Spanish cuark, Turkish kuark, Ukrainian ... 'an elementary particle') and it quickly became a widely recognized internationalism. It is not commonly known that Joyce's verse facetiously imitated loud cries of German dairy women: Drei Mark für muster Quark! (literally "Three Marks for an excellent curd!"). In other words, E. quark 'an elementary particle' is motivated by the German term Quark m. 'weiser Käse / curd, white cheese', metaphorically 'trifle, nonsense, trash, worthless thing', which -- according to most German and Slavic etymologists -- represents an obvious Slavic borrowing (especially a Polish or Lower Sorbian loanword), cf. Pol. twaróg, dial. kwaruk m. 'curd, white cheese' (< Proto-Slavic *tvarogъ m. 'id.'). It is suggested that the specialized term kwark represents the so called back-borrowing in the Polish language. Abstract

In this paper, we determine eigen energies, eigenfunctions and statistical properties of non-relativistic heavy quarkonia interacting with the extended Cornel potential within a space-time generated by a cosmic-string. We extend the Cornel potential by adding the inverse square potential plus the quadratic potential. We have calculated the energy eigenvalues and the corresponding eigenstates using the Extended Nikiforov-Uvarov (ENU) method. Then, based on the equation of energy spectra, the thermodynamic properties like partition function, entropy, free energy, mean energy and specific heat capacity are calculated within the space-time of a cosmic-string. In the next step, we investigate the influence of the cosmic-string parameter on quantum states of heavy quarkonia and their statistical properties.

Abstract

Abstract Nonlinear feedback shift register (NFSR) is one of the most important cryptographic primitives in lightweight cryptography. At ASIACRYPT 2010, Knellwolf et al. proposed conditional differential attack to perform a cryptanalysis on NFSR-based cryptosystems. The main idea of conditional differential attack is to restrain the propagation of the difference and obtain a detectable bias of the difference of the output bit. QUARK is a lightweight hash function family which is designed by Aumasson et al. at CHES 2010. Then the extended version of QUARK was published in Journal of Cryptology 2013. In this paper, we propose an improved conditional differential attack on QUARK. One improvement is that we propose a method to select the input difference. We could obtain a set of good input differences by this method. Another improvement is that we propose an automatic condition imposing algorithm to deal with the complicated conditions efficiently and easily. It is shown that with the improved conditional differential attack on QUARK, we can detect the bias of output difference at a higher round of QUARK. Compared to the current literature, we find a distinguisher of U-QUARK/D-QUARK/S-QUARK/C-QUARK up to 157/171/292/460 rounds with increasing 2/5/33/8 rounds respectively. We have performed the attacks on each instance of QUARK on a 3.30 GHz Intel Core i5 CPU, and all these attacks take practical complexities which have been fully verified by our experiments. As far as we know, all of these results have been the best thus far.

6. π± -,π0 -meson electroweak decays within relativistic quark model based on point form of Poincaré-invariant quantum mechanics.

Abstract

n the course of work the integral representation of π 0 -meson form-factor of π 0 → γγ process has been obtained within relativistic quark model based on point form of Poincar´e-invariant quantum mechanics taking into account anomalous magnetic moments of κu and κd quarks. The parameters obtained using pseudoscalar density constant gπ± , current masses of u- and d-quarks as well as decay constant π ± → ℓ ±νℓ were used for numerical modeling of Fπ0γ(t) form-factor in time-like region. Similar calculations for π 0 → γγ decay characteristics with reference to quark structure in point form of Poincaré-invariant quantum mechanics have been carried out for the first time. 7. Implication of Lightweight and Robust Hash Function to Support Key Exchange in Health Sensor Networks.

Abstract

Internet of Things (IoT) applications are critical for the fast delivery of health information/data in different environments. The wireless sensor network (WSN) can be used within IoT applications to collect this information in the electronic-health sector. However, the essential drawback of WSN and health applications is ensuring that patient and healthcare provider data/information is protected. In addition, exchanging keys and joining the network is the first/most important line of defense to protect health information. Amid all this, the previous search has introduced many key exchange protocols but still suffers from security and performance issues for WSNs and user devices. In this research, we propose a new protocol for exchanging keys and joining the network using security algorithms that are Elliptic-curve Diffie–Hellman (ECDH) and QUARK hash (qh). We focused on applying lightweight and high-security techniques to reduce the burden on WSN resources, by adopting a solid methodological approach to support security first and performance second. The security analysis is simulated with the Scyther tool, and the results indicate that our protocol is able to block key exchange attacks known in the existing research. Furthermore, we carried out a comparison with the results of the recent search in terms of performance, our protocol provides better performance results than the results of the existing search. 8. J-PARC Hadron Physics and Future Possibilities on Color Transparency

Abstract

The Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC) is a hadron-accelerator facility that aims to provide secondary beams of kaons, pions, neutrinos, muons, and others together with the primary proton beam for investigating a wide range of science projects. High-energy hadron physics can be studied by using high-momentum beams of unseparated hadrons, which are essentially pions, and also primary protons. In this report, possible experiments are explained on color transparency and generalized parton distributions (GPDs). These projects are complementary to lepton-scattering experiments at Jefferson Laboratory (JLab), COMPASS/AMBER, and future electron-ion colliders. Thank to hadron-beam energies up to 30 GeV, J-PARC is a unique facility to investigate the transition region from the hadron degrees of freedom to the quark-gluon degrees of freedom. It is suitable for finding mechanisms of the olor transparency. Such color-transparency studies are also valuable for clarifying the factorization of hadron production processes in extracting the GPDs from actual measurements. These studies will lead to the understanding of basic high-energy hadron interactions in nuclear medium and to clarifications on the origins of hadron spins, masses, and internal pressure mechanisms.

12. Measurements of charge and CP asymmetries in b-hadron decays using top-quark events collected by the ATLAS detector in pp collision at √s = 8 TeV

Abstract

Same- and opposite-sign charge asymmetries are measured in lepton+jets top anti-top events in which a b-hadron decays semileptonically to a soft muon, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb-1 from proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √s = 8 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. The charge asymmetries are based on the charge of the lepton from the top-quark decay and the charge of the soft muon from the semileptonic decay of a b-hadron and are measured in a fiducial region corresponding to the experimental acceptance. Four CP asymmetries (one mixing and three direct) are measured and are found to be compatible with zero and consistent with the Standard Model.

13. Improved conditional differential attacks on lightweight hash family QUARK.

Abstract

Nonlinear feedback shift register (NFSR) is one of the most important cryptographic primitives in lightweight cryptography. At ASIACRYPT 2010, Knellwolf et al. proposed conditional differential attack to perform a cryptanalysis on NFSR-based cryptosystems. The main idea of conditional differential attack is to restrain the propagation of the difference and obtain a detectable bias of the difference of the output bit. QUARK is a lightweight hash function family which is designed by Aumasson et al. at CHES 2010. Then the extended version of QUARK was published in Journal of Cryptology 2013. In this paper, we propose an improved conditional differential attack on QUARK. One improvement is that we propose a method to select the input difference. We could obtain a set of good input differences by this method. Another improvement is that we propose an automatic condition imposing algorithm to deal with the complicated conditions efficiently and easily. It is shown that with the improved conditional differential attack on QUARK, we can detect the bias of output difference at a higher round of QUARK. Compared to the current literature, we find a distinguisher of U-QUARK/D-QUARK/S-QUARK/C-QUARK up to 157/171/292/460 rounds with increasing 2/5/33/8 rounds respectively. We have performed the attacks on each instance of QUARK on a 3.30 GHz Intel Core i5 CPU, and all these attacks take practical complexities which have been fully verified by our experiments. 14. J-PARC Hadron Physics and Future Possibilities on Color Transparency.

Abstract

The Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC) is a hadron-accelerator facility that aims to provide secondary beams of kaons, pions, neutrinos, muons, and others together with the primary proton beam for investigating a wide range of science projects. High-energy hadron physics can be studied by using high-momentum beams of unseparated hadrons, which are essentially pions, and also primary protons. In this report, possible experiments are explained on color transparency and generalized parton distributions (GPDs). These projects are complementary to lepton-scattering experiments at Jefferson Laboratory (JLab), COMPASS/AMBER, and future electron-ion colliders. Thank to hadron-beam energies up to 30 GeV, J-PARC is a unique facility to investigate the transition region from the hadron degrees of freedom to the quark-gluon degrees of freedom. It is suitable for finding mechanisms of the olor transparency. Such color-transparency studies are also valuable for clarifying the factorization of hadron production processes in extracting the GPDs from actual measurements. These studies will lead to the understanding of basic high-energy hadron interactions in nuclear medium and to clarifications on the origins of hadron spins, masses, and internal pressure mechanisms. 22. Implication of Lightweight and Robust Hash Function to Support Key Exchange in Health Sensor Networks

Abstract

Internet of Things (IoT) applications are critical for the fast delivery of health information/data in different environments. The wireless sensor network (WSN) can be used within IoT applications to collect this information in the electronic-health sector. However, the essential drawback of WSN and health applications is ensuring that patient and healthcare provider data/information is protected. In addition, exchanging keys and joining the network is the first/most important line of defense to protect health information. Amid all this, the previous search has introduced many key exchange protocols but still suffers from security and performance issues for WSNs and user devices. In this research, we propose a new protocol for exchanging keys and joining the network using security algorithms that are Elliptic-curve Diffie–Hellman (ECDH) and QUARK hash (qh). We focused on applying lightweight and high-security techniques to reduce the burden on WSN resources, by adopting a solid methodological approach to support security first and performance second. The security analysis is simulated with the Scyther tool, and the results indicate that our protocol is able to block key exchange attacks known in the existing research. Furthermore, we carried out a comparison with the results of the recent search in terms of performance, our protocol provides better performance results than the results of the existing search.

24. Observation of spin correlations in tt̄ events at √s = 7 TeV using the ATLAS detector

Abstract

This thesis presents measurements of the the spin correlation strength in top anti-top quark pair production at the LHC using the ATLAS detector. The data used corresponds to 4.6 fb−1 of integrated luminosity taken during 2011 at the LHC at a center of mass energy of 7 TeV. The spin correlation is studied utilising different observables with different sensitivities to the production mechanism, in particular to gluon-gluon fusion in the like or unlike helicity state, quark anti- quark annihilation in the unlike helicity state, or a combination of the three. In addition cuts are made on the invariant mass of the ttbar system to enhance or suppress contributions from different initial state production mechanisms. The analysis presented is a precision test of both ttbar production and decay in the SM. These measurements are compared to the most current theoretical predictions. No deviation from the SM expectation was observed. In a subset of the data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.1 fb−1, the hypothesis of zero spin correlation is excluded at 5.1 standard deviations.

Abstract

In view of upcoming more stringent air quality limits and the ambition to align with the WHO guidelines, nitrogen dioxide (NO 2) pollution from traffic and other sources will remain a problem in the EU. To assess the impact of traffic measures and emission reductions in other sectors on NO 2 -concentrations, an EU-wide high-resolution NO 2 source apportionment web-application was developed. The application allows users to define scenarios in a user-friendly way and quickly visualize the NO 2 -concentrations at measurement stations and in cities. The user can configure a new Euro 7/VII emission standard and additionally define urban access regulations scenarios in cities. To capture the spatial scales of NO 2 pollution, the SHERPA source-receptor model was used in combination with the QUARK kernel dispersion model. The first model considers long-distance impacts, the latter considers the strong concentration gradients close to roads. This paper focuses on the methodology, a follow-up paper describes the web-application. • We present a method for fast sectoral and spatial NO 2 source apportionment. • The road transport sector is considered in high detail and at 100-m resolution. • The impact of a new vehicle emission standard for NO x can be simulated. • The effect of urban access regulations can be simulated in 948 European cities. • NO 2 concentration effects are visualized at measurement stations and over cities. Is analyzed the decay (t→bW⁺) calculated theoretically the width of decay and decay fraction of the particle whose result is compared with the experimental data of the table Particle Data group. The model prediction on the decay process can be considered good as a first approach to this class of decay. This type of analysis is particularly important because it allows one hand, familiarize students with the decays of particles and on the other, open a space to introduce topics of particle physics in the introductory courses at university level.

30. Use of kefir and buttermilk to produce an innovative quark cheese.

Quark cheese is a fermented soft fresh cheese categorised under acid-rennet coagulated cheeses. In this study, alternative raw materials such as kefir and yayik buttermilk were used to produce Quark cheese in comparison with the cheese produced by the acidification of skim milk with mesophilic lactic culture. Samples were kept individually under 35 °C and 100 °C for coagulum formation. Obtained cheeses, were evaluated in terms of some physicochemical, microbiological and sensorial properties in addition to the volatile and peptide profiles. 31. A top quark mass measurement using a matrix element method

Abstract

A measurement of the mass of the top quark is presented, using top-antitop pair (t-tbar) candidate events for the lepton+jets decay channel. The measurement makes use of Tevatron proton-antiproton collision data at centre-of-mass energy 1.96 TeV, collected at the CDF detector. The top quark mass is measured by employing an unbinned maximum likelihood method where the event probability density functions are calculated using signal (t-tbar) and background (W+jets) matrix elements, as well as a set of parameterised jet-to-parton mapping functions. The likelihood function is maximised with respect to the top quark mass, the fraction of signal events, and a correction to the jet energy scale (JES) of the calorimeter jets. The simultaneous measurement of the JES correction (ΔJES) provides an in situ jet energy calibration based on the known mass of the hadronically decaying W boson. Using 578 lepton+jets candidate events corresponding to 3.2 inverse femtobarns of integrated luminosity, the top quark mass is measured to be 172.4 ± 1.4(stat+ΔJES) ± 1.3(syst) GeV/c², one of the most precise single measurements to date.

With the rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT) network, the threats of information insecurity are increasing so there have been many proposals for IOT security, however, so far there is no one that is truly effective and comprehensive. In our previous research, we have focused on Lightweight encrypt, with the primary goal of simplifying loops of encryption algorithms, reducing computation requirements, and reducing energy consumption, the system is still safe, integrated into the new protocols of the IoT network. In this article, we proposed a comprehensive security solution including the improved DTLS in Transmission Layer, the improved Quark and the improved Overhearing in Sensor Layer. Our solution include location diagram, improvements to decrease resource consumption of the DTLS and the Quark for adapting to low-energy network. After proposed theoretical basis, our team set up simulating experiments in Contiki Operating System to deploy comprehensive security including DTLS, Quark and Overhearing as well as simulate a DoS Attack by Botnet and UDP Flood. Our team measuring criterions of WSN performance such as PDR, Latency and Energy Consumption and the their results proved the stable operation of WSN with installing this comprehensive security solution and suffering a simulated DoS Attack. Abstract

Simple relations between the masses of the two lightest up and down quarks were obtained on the basis of the simple physically based model compatible with the present-day theory of strong interactions, i.e. with quantum chromodynamics. Relations between the u and d quark masses, on one hand, and nucleon and pion masses, on the other hand, are also established. Thus, the obtained in such a way elementary formula mu/md = 1/(1+√2), relating u and d quark masses, appears to be in excellent agreement with a number of theoretical calculations of the ratio mu/md of the lightest quark masses. The u and d quark masses mu = 1.903 MeV, md = 4.594 MeV, calculated with the help of the obtained relations, are also in very good agreement with the modern evaluations and calculations of these quantities. The average of the u and d quark masses m̅ud = ΔMπ/√2 ≅ 3.248 MeV, obtained in the proposed approach, is in good agreement with previous calculations too.

35. Electroweak Symmetry Breaking via UV Insensitive Anomaly Mediation

Abstract

Anomaly mediation solves the supersymmetric flavor and CP problems. This is because the superconformal anomaly dictates that supersymmetry breaking is transmitted through nearly flavor-blind infrared physics that is highly predictive and UV insensitive. Slepton mass squareds, however, are predicted to be negative. This can be solved by adding D-terms for U(1)_Y and U(1)_{B-L} while retaining the UV insensitivity. In this paper we consider electroweak symmetry breaking via UV insensitive anomaly mediation in several models. For the MSSM we find a stable vacuum when tanbeta < 1, but in this region the top Yukawa coupling blows up only slightly above the supersymmetry breaking scale. For the NMSSM, we find a stable electroweak breaking vacuum but with a chargino that is too light. Replacing the cubic singlet term in the NMSSM superpotential with a term linear in the singlet we find a stable vacuum and viable spectrum. Most of the parameter region with correct vacua requires a large superpotential coupling, precisely what is expected in the "Fat Higgs'" model in which the superpotential is generated dynamically. We have therefore found the first viable UV complete, UV insensitive supersymmetry breaking model that solves the flavor and CP problems automatically: the Fat Higgs model with UV insensitive anomaly mediation. Moreover, the cosmological gravitino problem is naturally solved, opening up the possibility of realistic thermal leptogenesis.

36. A systematic study of J/psi suppression in cold nuclear matter

Abstract

Understanding the effects of cold nuclear matter on J/psi production is a key requirement in order to interpret the J/psi suppression reported in heavy-ion collisions. Based on a Glauber model, the J/psi-nucleon inelastic cross section is determined from a statistical analysis of J/psi world data on nuclear targets. The global fit of all data gives sigmaJ/psiN = 3.4 +/- 0.2 mb, significantly smaller than previous estimates, yet the chi2 of the fit is pretty large, chi2/ndf = 1.5. A similar value, sigmaJ/psiN = 3.5 +/- 0.2 +/- 1.7 mb, is obtained when the De Florian-Sassot modifications of the nuclear parton densities are included in the analysis, although we emphasize that the present uncertainties on gluon (anti)shadowing do not allow for a precise determination of sigmaJ/psiN. Finally, the possible energy dependence of the J/psi-nucleon inelastic cross section is investigated within this framework. No significant energy dependence of the J/psi-N interaction is observed.

Abstract

The twin Higgs mechanism was proposed recently to solve the little hierarchy problem. We study the implementation of the twin Higgs mechanism in left-right models. At the TeV scale, heavy quark and gauge bosons appear, with rich collider phenomenology. In addition, there are extra Higgs bosons, some of which couple to both the standard model fermion sector and the gauge sector, while others couple to the gauge bosons only. We present the particle spectrum and study the general features of the collider phenomenology of this class of model at the Large Hadron Collider.

39. Coulomb gauge approach to (qqg)over-bar hybrid mesons

DOE Grants DE-FG02 97ER41048 and DE-FG02-03ER41260., An effective Coulomb gauge Hamiltonian, H-eff, is used to calculate the light ( u (u) over barg), strange ( s (s) over barg) and charmed (c (c) over barg) hybrid meson spectra. For the same two parameter H-eff providing glueball masses consistent with lattice results and a good description of the observed u, d, s and c quark mesons, a large-scale variational treatment predicts that the lightest hybrid has J(PC) = 0(++) and mass 2.1 GeV. The lightest exotic 1(-+) state is just above 2.2 GeV, near the upper limit of lattice and flux tube predictions. These theoretical formulations all indicate that the observed 1(-+) pi(1)(1600) and, more clearly, pi(1)(1400) are not hybrid states. The Coulomb gauge approach further predicts that in the strange and charmed sectors, respectively, the ground state hybrids have 1(+-) with masses 2.1 and 3.8 GeV, while the. rst exotic 1( +) states are at 2.4 and 4.0 GeV. 40. Transport coefficients and resonances for a meson gas in chiral perturbation theory

Programme (BES-2005-6726)., We present recent results on a systematic method to calculate transport coefficients for a meson gas (in particular, we analyze a pion gas) at low temperatures in the context of Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT). Our method is based on the study of Feynman diagrams taking into account collisions in the plasma by means of the non-zero particle width. This implies a modification of the standard ChPT power counting scheme. We discuss the importance of unitarity, which allows for an accurate high-energy description of scattering amplitudes, generating dynamically the rho(770) and f(0)(600) mesons. Our results are compatible with analyses of kinetic theory, both in the non-relativistic very low-T regime and near the transition. We show the behavior with temperature of the electrical and thermal conductivities as well as of the shear and bulk viscosities. We obtain the result that the bulk viscosity is negligible against the shear viscosity, except near the chiral phase transition where the conformal anomaly might induce larger bulk effects. 41. Isospin breaking and chiral symmetry restoration

These include m(u) not equal m(d) contributions as well as electromagnetic (e not equal 0) corrections, both treated in a consistent chiral Lagrangian framework to leading order in SU(2) and SU(3) chiral perturbation theory, so that our predictions are model-independent. The chiral restoration temperature extracted from <(q) over barq > = <(u) over baru + (d) over bard > is almost unaffected, while the isospin-breaking order parameter <(u) over baru - (d) over bard > grows with T for the three-flavor case SU(3). We derive a sum rule relating the condensate ratio <(q) over barq >(e not equal 0)/<(q) over barq >(e = 0) with the scalar susceptibility difference (x)(T) - (x)(0), directly measurable on the lattice. This sum rule is useful also for estimating condensate errors in staggered lattice analysis. Keeping m(u) not equal m(d) allows one to obtain the connected and disconnected contributions to the susceptibility, even in the isospin limit, whose temperature, mass, and isospin-breaking dependence we analyze in detail. The disconnected part grows linearly, diverging in the chiral (infrared) limit as T = M(pi), while the connected part shows a quadratic behavior, infrared regular as T(2)/M(eta)(2), and coming from pi(0)eta mixing terms. This smooth connected behavior suggests that isospin-breaking correlations are weaker than critical chiral ones near the transition temperature. Abstract

This Letter reports the observation of single top quarks produced together with a photon, which directly probes the electroweak coupling of the top quark. The analysis uses 139 fb^{-1} of 13 TeV proton-proton collision data collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Requiring a photon with transverse momentum larger than 20 GeV and within the detector acceptance, the fiducial cross section is measured to be 688±23(stat) _{-71}^{+75}(syst) fb, to be compared with the standard model prediction of 515_{-42}^{+36} fb at next-to-leading order in QCD.

Abstract

The production of a W boson in association with a single charm quark is studied using 140 fb(-1) of vS = 13 TeV proton-proton collision data collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. ffiffis The charm quark is tagged by the presence of a charmed hadron reconstructed with a secondary-vertex fit. The W boson is reconstructed from the decay to either an electron or a muon and the missing transverse momentum present in the event. The charmed mesons reconstructed are D+ ?K-p+p+ and D*+ ? D0p+ ? (K-p+)p+ and the charge conjugate decays in the fiducial regions where pT(e; mu) > 30 GeV, l?(e; mu)l 2.5, pT(D(*)) > 8 GeV, and l?(D(*))l 2.2. The integrated and normalized differential cross sections as a function of the pseudorapidity of the lepton from the W boson decay, and of the transverse momentum of the charmed hadron, are extracted from the data using a profile likelihood fit. The measured total fiducial cross sections are sfidOS-SS(W- + D+) = 50.2 + 0.2(stat)+2.4 -2.3(syst) pb, s(OS-SS) (fid)(W- + D+) = 48.5 + 0.2(stat)+2.3-2.2(syst) pb, sfidOS-SS(W- + D*+) = 51.1 + 0.4(stat)+1.9 -1.8 (syst) pb, and s(OS-SS) (fid)(W+ + D*-) = 50.0 + 0.4(stat)+1.9 -1.8 (syst) pb. Results are compared with the predictions of next-to-leading-order quantum chromodynamics calculations performed using state-of-the-art parton distribution functions. Additionally, the ratio of charm to anticharm production cross sections is studied to probe the s -s- quark asymmetry. The ratio is found to be R+ c = 0.971 + 0.006(stat) + 0.011(syst). Abstract

Recently proposed Future Circular Collider-based muon-proton collid-ers will allow for investigating lepton-hadron interactions at the highest center-of-mass energy. In this study, we investigate the potential of these colliders for a four-fermion contact interactions search. Regarding the con-structive and destructive interferences of contact interactions, we estimated discovery, observation, and exclusion limits on the compositeness scale for the left-left, right-right, left-right, and right-left helicity structures. In this regard, we obtained compositeness scales for the left-left helicity structure at root s = 63.2 TeV FCC-based mu p collider with the 100 fb-1 integrated lu-minosity as 225.7 +/- 1.9% TeV (discovery), 269.0 +/- 2.0% TeV (observation), and 311.3 +/- 2.1% TeV (exclusion). Abstract

We study energy correlations in states created by a heavy operator acting on the vacuum in a conformal field theory. We argue that the energy correlations in such states exhibit two characteristic regimes as functions of the angular separations between the calorimeters: power-like growth at small angles described by the light-ray OPE and slowly varying, or ``flat'', function at larger angles. The transition between the two regimes is controlled by the scaling dimension of the heavy operator and the dynamics of the theory. We analyze this phenomenon in detail in the planar ${\cal N}=4$ SYM theory both at weak and strong coupling. An analogous transition was previously observed in QCD in the measurement of the angular energy distribution of particles belonging to the same energetic jet. In that case it corresponds to the transition from the light-ray OPE, perturbative regime described in terms of correlations between quarks and gluons to the flat, non-perturbative regime described in terms of correlations between hadrons., Comment: 59 pages, 6 figures

Abstract

A search is presented for a heavy resonance $Y$ decaying into a Standard Model Higgs boson $H$ and a new particle $X$ in a fully hadronic final state. The full Large Hadron Collider Run 2 dataset of proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}= 13$ TeV collected by the ATLAS detector from 2015 to 2018 is used, and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb$^{-1}$. The search targets the high $Y$-mass region, where the $H$ and $X$ have a significant Lorentz boost in the laboratory frame. A novel signal region is implemented using anomaly detection, where events are selected solely because of their incompatibility with a learned background-only model. It is defined using a jet-level tagger for signal-model-independent selection of the boosted $X$ particle, representing the first application of fully unsupervised machine learning to an ATLAS analysis. Two additional signal regions are implemented to target a benchmark $X$ decay into two quarks, covering topologies where the $X$ is reconstructed as either a single large-radius jet or two small-radius jets. The analysis selects Higgs boson decays into $b\bar{b}$, and a dedicated neural-network-based tagger provides sensitivity to the boosted heavy-flavor topology. No significant excess of data over the expected background is observed, and the results are presented as upper limits on the production cross section $\sigma(pp \rightarrow Y \rightarrow XH \rightarrow q\bar{q}b\bar{b}$) for signals with $m_Y$ between 1.5 and 6 TeV and $m_X$ between 65 and 3000 GeV., Comment: 47 pages in total, author list starting page 30, 13 figures, 1 table, submitted to Physical Review D.
