Objective  This study was aimed to compare the closure of skull base defect in endoscopic endonasal transsphenoid surgery of pituitary tumors, using bipedicled nasal septal flap versus fascial closure. The study hypothesis being that bipedicled nasal septal flap is better, compared with fascial closure of skull base defect post–endoscopic endonasal transsphenoid surgery of pituitary tumors. Methods  All the eligible patients were randomly divided into two groups and then randomly allocated to the surgeons. In one group, fat and fascia lata was used for closure of the skull base defect and nasal septal flap was not harvested whereas in the other, nasal septal flap was used for closure. Results  There was a statistically significant difference in postoperative cerebrospinal fluid leak between the two groups. Patients who had undergone flap repair had lower incidence of postoperative cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak. Duration of postoperative hospital stay was also less among the group who underwent flap repair (statistically significant). Conclusion  Bipedicled nasal septal flap serves an excellent cover for the skull base defect following endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal pituitary surgery. It can prevent postoperative CSF leak even in cases where tissue glue is not used. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Background Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the primary cause of invasive cervical cancer (ICC). The prevalence of various HPV genotypes, ranging from oncogenically low- to high-risk, may be influenced by geographic and demographic factors, which could have critical implications for the screening and prevention of HPV infection and ICC incidence. However, many technical factors may influence the identification of high-risk genotypes associated with ICC in different populations. Methods We used high-throughput sequencing of a single amplicon within the HPV L1 gene to assess the influence of patient age, race/ethnicity, histological subtype, sample type, collection date, experimental factors, and computational parameters on the prevalence of HPV genotypes detected in archived DNA (n = 34), frozen tissue (n = 44), and formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue (n = 57) samples collected in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Results We found that the percentage of off-target human reads and the concentration of DNA amplified from each sample varied by HPV genotype and by archive type. After accounting for the percentage of human reads and excluding samples with especially low levels of amplified DNA, the HPV prevalence was 95% across all ICC samples: HPV16 was the most common genotype (in 56% of all ICC samples), followed by HPV18 (in 21%). Depending upon the genotyping parameters, the prevalence of HPV58 varied up to twofold in our cohort. In archived DNA and frozen tissue samples, we detected previously established differences in HPV16 and HPV18 frequencies based on histological subtype, but we could not reproduce those findings using our FFPE samples. Conclusions In this pilot study, we demonstrate that sample collection, preparation, and analysis methods can influence the detection of certain HPV genotypes and must be carefully considered when drawing any biological conclusions based on HPV genotyping data from ICC samples.

This paper reviews our institutional experience in the management of rhino-facial entomophthoromycosis, a rare subcutaneous fungal infection. We adopt a fixed two-phase protocol comprising an initial ‘intensive phase’ (two-drug regimen) followed by an ‘eradication phase’ (monotherapy). We present five patients treated between May 2013 and May 2020 in our institution who were subjected to the mentioned protocol. All five patients received six months of supersaturated potassium iodide solution and itraconazole, followed by four months of monotherapy with only supersaturated potassium iodide solution. All patients responded well to the treatment and were disease-free on follow-up of a minimum two years post-treatment. We recommend this procedure for all typical cases of entomophthoromycosis and suggest avoiding surgical intervention which may disseminate the fungus and delay response to treatment.

Introduction: Majority of petrous bone and lateral skull base pathologies are benign in nature. The complex anatomy usually warrants an extensive approach with associated morbidity. Case summary: Two cases of petrous bone cholesteatoma (1 congenital cholesteatoma with facial palsy and 1 acquired cholesteatoma) and a case of glomus tympanicum were treated with exclusive endoscopic transcanal approach. The cases of petrous cholesteatoma were addressed with trans-promontorial and infra-cochlear approaches. The mean operative time was approximately 140 min. No CSF otorrhoea was noticed in the post-operative period. The average period of hospital stay was 3.7 days. Conclusion: In the subset of cases with limited benign disease an endoscopic trans-canal approach is a better alternative to an external approach. It decreases operative time, blood loss, chance of meningitis, morbidity and hospital stay. The lack of depth perception is a major hurdle which can be come over by experience in endoscopic middle ear surgery. This approach can create direct access to cochlea/petrous apex/internal auditory canal (IAC)/Supra-geniculate ganglion region.

BackgroundThe predominant implementation paradigm of electronic health record (EHR) systems in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) relies on standalone system installations at facilities. This implementation approach exacerbates the digital divide, with facilities in areas with inadequate electrical and network infrastructure often left behind. Mobile health (mHealth) technologies have been implemented to extend the reach of digital health, but these systems largely add to the problem of siloed patient data, with few seamlessly interoperating with the EHR systems that are now scaled nationally in many LMICs. Robust mHealth applications that effectively extend EHR systems are needed to improve access, improve quality of care, and ameliorate the digital divide. ObjectiveWe report on the development and scaled implementation of mUzima, an mHealth extension of the most broadly deployed EHR system in LMICs (OpenMRS). MethodsThe “Guidelines for reporting of health interventions using mobile phones: mobile (mHealth) evidence reporting assessment (mERA)” checklist was employed to report on the mUzima application. The World Health Organization (WHO) Principles for Digital Development framework was used as a secondary reference framework. Details of mUzima’s architecture, core features, functionalities, and its implementation status are provided to highlight elements that can be adapted in other systems. ResultsmUzima is an open-source, highly configurable Android application with robust features including offline management, deduplication, relationship management, security, cohort management, and error resolution, among many others. mUzima allows providers with lower-end Android smartphones (version 4.4 and above) who work remotely to access historical patient data, collect new data, view media, leverage decision support, conduct store-and-forward teleconsultation, and geolocate clients. The application is supported by an active community of developers and users, with feature priorities vetted by the community. mUzima has been implemented nationally in Kenya, is widely used in Rwanda, and is gaining scale in Uganda and Mozambique. It is disease-agnostic, with current use cases in HIV, cancer, chronic disease, and COVID-19 management, among other conditions. mUzima meets all WHO’s Principles of Digital Development, and its scaled implementation success has led to its recognition as a digital global public good and its listing in the WHO Digital Health Atlas. ConclusionsGreater emphasis should be placed on mHealth applications that robustly extend reach of EHR systems within resource-limited settings, as opposed to siloed mHealth applications. This is particularly important given that health information exchange infrastructure is yet to mature in many LMICs. The mUzima application demonstrates how this can be done at scale, as evidenced by its adoption across multiple countries and for numerous care domains.

Abstract Piezoelectric materials are widely referred to as “smart” materials because they can transduce mechanical pressure acting on them to electrical signals and vice versa. They are extensively utilized in harvesting mechanical energy from vibrations, human motion, mechanical loads, etc., and converting them into electrical energy for low power devices. Piezoelectric transduction offers high scalability, simple device designs, and high‐power densities compared to electro‐magnetic/static and triboelectric transducers. This review aims to give a holistic overview of recent developments in piezoelectric nanostructured materials, polymers, polymer nanocomposites, and piezoelectric films for implementation in energy harvesting. The progress in fabrication techniques, morphology, piezoelectric properties, energy harvesting performance, and underpinning fundamental mechanisms for each class of materials, including polymer nanocomposites using conducting, non‐conducting, and hybrid fillers are discussed. The emergent application horizon of piezoelectric energy harvesters particularly for wireless devices and self‐powered sensors is highlighted, and the current challenges and future prospects are critically discussed.

Aim: The purpose of this study is to achieve an effective method to remove root canal filling material from the root canal system. The study, thus, aims to evaluate the efficacy of the cleaning ability of two different rotary Ni-Ti systems; ProTaper Retreatment files and RaCe System compared to hand instrumentation with Hedstrom files for the removal of gutta-percha during retreatment. Materials and Methods: Thirty mandibular premolars with one single straight canal were decoronated and instrumented with ProTaper files and filled with thermoplastic gutta-percha. After 30 days, the samples were divided into three groups and gutta-percha was removed with the test instruments. The postoperative radiographs were evaluated with known criteria by dividing the root into cervical third, middle third, and apical third. The results were tabulated and Statistical Package for Social Sciences Software (IBM Corporation) was used for analysis. Results: The mean deviation of the results were first calculated and then t-test and analysis of variance test (two-tailed P value) were evaluated for establishing significant differences. The rotary instruments were effective in removing the gutta-percha from the canals. Therefore, significant difference was observed between the efficacies of the two rotary systems used. The rotary instruments showed effective gutta-percha removal in the cervical and middle one third. (P > 0.05). However, apical debridement was effective with Hedstrom files. Heerfordt’s syndrome is defined as a combination of facial palsy, parotid swelling, uveitis and fever in sarcoidosis cases. Heerfordt’s syndrome as a cause of facial palsy is very rare. We report a case of alternating facial nerve palsy in a 52-year-old female initially treated for Bell’s palsy. The patient was referred to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhubaneswar, India, in January 2013 for clinical evaluation. She was found to have a parotid swelling and anterior intermediate uveitis. A pathoradiological evaluation suggested sarcoidosis and a final diagnosis of Heerfordt’s syndrome was made. Steroid treatment was initiated which led to an improvement in the facial palsy and uveitis as well as the disappearance of the parotid swelling with a corresponding decrease in angiotensin-converting enzyme levels. An English literature review was carried out to analyse the varied presentation of this syndrome. The analysis focused on presenting symptoms, biochemical markers and radiological findings of Heerfordt’s syndrome cases.

Background: Although the utility of laser fiber in microscopic stapes surgery has been documented in the past, their role can be highly emphasized in endoscopic stapes surgery, especially in difficult anatomical situations., Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of cases where a total of 46 patients (22 in conventional stapedotomy and 24 in CO 2 laser-assisted stapedotomy) were included in the study. The clinical parameters were assessed both in the preoperative and postoperative periods in the respective groups and later compared 12 weeks after stapedotomy., Results: A total of 90.90% (20/22) of the patients in the conventional stapedotomy and 95.83% (23/24) of patients in laser-assisted stapedotomy had <20 dB of AB gap in the postoperative period ( P  = 0.71). Canaloplasty was required in six patients in the conventional stapedotomy and none of the patients in the laser group needed the same ( P  = 0.01). Chorda tympani nerve was manipulated in 59.09% (13/22) and 25.00% (6/24) of cases in the conventional group and in the CO 2 laser group, respectively ( P  = 0.01)., Conclusion: Although the audiological outcomes with fiber-enabled CO 2 laser in endoscopic stapedotomy are comparable to conventional surgery, it is a better tool in a narrow auditory canal, requiring minimal manipulation of the chorda tympani nerve., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflict of interest., (© 2023 The Authors. Carotid body tumors are slow growing neck masses that arise from the neural crest cells at the carotid bifurcation. Majority are asymptomatic and are diagnosed incidentally. Surgical excision is accepted as the treatment of choice to reduce complications. In the present series, we report 10 cases of carotid body tumors and our institutional experience. All patients underwent radiological evaluation with an ultrasonography with Doppler, contrast enhanced computed tomography and MR angiography. 6 cases were operated by a transcervical excision. The tumor was excised in tototranscervically. One of the cases required saphenous vein graft intraoperatively due to vascular injury and also had postoperative vocal cord palsy. The rest had an uneventful recovery. Carotid body tumors although rare and seemingly indolent can cause substantial symptoms if left untreated. To compare efficacy of temporalis fascia myringoplasty using platelet-rich plasma(PRP) {MP-PRP} and conventional emporalis fascia myringoplasty (MP-C) in treatment of moderate to large central tympanic-membrane(TM) perforation. Randomized-Control-Trial. We randomly assigned eighty-patients with COMmucosal-type with medium to large central TM-perforation and conductive hearing loss planned for primary myringoplasty to receive either MP-PRP orMP-C. Myringoplasty was performed through postauricular approach underlay graft using temporalis fascia. Primary-outcome was graft uptake (an intact TM) at 6 months postoperatively. Secondary-outcome was the postoperative hearing improvement measured by pure-tone-audiometry (PTA). Eighty-myringoplasties (MP-PRP group-40, MP-C group-40) done for 80 patients (male = 41; female = 39, age-group = 18-45-years) were included in analysis. At 6 months postoperatively graft uptake rate was 94.4% in MP-PRP and 92.1%% in MP-C group. There was no statistically significant difference in graft-uptake between the two groups ( p  = 0.358). Success in terms of hearing gain (≥ 10 dB) was achieved in 34 patients (89.5%) in MP-C and 37 patients (94.9%) in MP-PRP group. At 6 months follow-up; mean-PTA-average improved from 35.10 ± 5.401 dB to 27.74 ± 5.660 dB and mean ABG improved from 24.00 ± 5.204 dB to17.42 ± 5.559 dB in MP-C group. At 6 months followup; mean-PTA-average improved from 37.00 ± 6.144 dB to 26.65 dB and mean air bone gap (ABG) improved from 25.98 ± 5.736 dB to 16.21 ± 4.318 dB in MP-PRP group. No statistically significant differences in improvement in PTA-values were observed between both groups ( p  = 0.336).Postoperative complications were similar in both groups. Graft-uptake, hearing outcomes and complications of MP-PRP were similar to MP-C. Patients diagnosed with Lingual thyroid (LT) may have second thyroid anomaly (STA).Given rarity of dual ectopics/anomalies, standardized management recommendations are lacking. We aimed to describe our experience in management of LT with STA and suggest a management algorithm. We conducted a retrospectivechart review of patients diagnosed with LT between Jul-2013 and Dec-2019. Data regarding demographics, clinical presentation, endocrine-profile, associated STA treatment received, and outcomes were collected and analyzed. Eight patients (female-7 cases, male-1 case, adult-4 cases, children-4 cases, mean age-18.1 years, range 6-43 years) with LT were identified. Four(50%) cases had STA in addition to LT (thyroglossal cyst in two-cases, sublingual thyroid in one-case and sub-mental thyroid in one-case) and presented as neck mass. Diagnosis was confirmed with flexible-nasopharyngoscopy,ultrasonography,thyroid-scintigraphy and computed-tomography. Ectopic thyroid(s) was/were only functional thyroid gland with absence of normal thyroid in all cases. Two- cases had symptomatic for LT and were managed by coblation assisted excision of LT in one and I 131 ablation in one-case.All adult patients were hypothyroidand received thyroxin.All pediatric cases were euthyroidand received no surgical intervention for LT.Three patients required surgery for STA; Sistrunk surgery in two and excision of submental thyroid in one. All cases were asymptomatic. These results were utilized to suggest a management algorithm for LT with STA. LT patients with STA are more symptomatic and required more surgical interventions in compare to isolated LT. Introduction  Hearing loss following a head injury is common and well known. The numbers of road traffic accidents have increased recently, with minor head injuries being very common, and usually go unreported. Hearing loss after a minor head injury is often unnoticed. Available literature is limited in this regard. Objective  This study was done to assess hearing loss in patients with minor head injuries and to define its natural history and progression/regression by a serial assessment of hearing. Methods This prospective study was done in the Department of Neurosurgery, AIIMS, Bhubaneshwar, Odisha, India, for a period of 24 months to look at the profile of hearing levels of patients presenting with history suggestive of minor head injury. Results  This study has shown that some form of hearing loss is common after a minor head injury and should be evaluated in all patients to detect subclinical hearing loss. A significant number of patients having minimal or a mild degree of hearing loss, if managed properly, improve to preinjury status. Distortion product oto-acoustic emission testing should be used as the screening and follow-up tool. (1) To determine prevalence of malignancy in contralateral lobe (CL) in patients undergoing completion thyroidectomy (CT) and to study complications of CT. (2) To analyze clinical, ultrasonography(USG) findings and histopathological features of the tumor in ipsilateral lobe (IL) that could predict malignancy in CL. Retrospective chart review of 40-patients who first underwent hemi-thyroidectomy for fine-needle-aspiration (FNA) diagnosed benign lesions followed by CT between September-2017 and November-2019. Histopathology reports from both surgeries, along with patient characteristics and USGfeatures of initial hemi-thyroid lobe were reviewed. Thirty-two (80%) of the 40 patients were female. Mean age of presentation was 38.2 years (Range = 19-61years). Malignancy was found in 22(55%) contralateral-lobes of 40 completion thyroidectomies performed. Multi-focality of tumor in first surgery was only factor with significant association with presence of malignancy in CL (OR = 5.53, 95% CI 1.01-30.35, p = 0.048).In terms of USG-findings, most common suspicious feature in IL was peripheral/rim calcification, with TIRADS ≥ 4 was present in 19 patients but none of features could significantly predict bilateral disease. Three (7.5%) patients developed permanent unilateral recurrent-laryngeal-nerve (RLN) palsy (2-following initial surgery and 1-following CT). Fourteen (35%) patients developed hypoparathyroidism following CT of whom 12 were symptomatic and 4(10%) proceeded to permanent hypoparathyroidism. There were no other major complication following CT. Multifocality in initial hemithyroidectomy specimen was most frequently associated with malignancy in CL. Preoperative TIRADS ≥ 4 of IL may be considered a risk factor for bilateral malignancy. CT may be performed in FNA misdiagnosed thyroid cancers as there is high prevalence(56%) of disease in CL. To analyse the pattern of laryngotracheal invasion (LTI) by papillary-thyroid-carcinoma (PTC) and outcomes of their management. We undertook a retrospective chart review to study patterns of LTI by PTC and to evaluate outcomes of surgical modalities used to treat PTC with LTI. Out of 246cases of PTC, 26-cases had LTI (male-12, female-14, mean-age-55.6 years, range 42-73 years). Common clinical presentation were neck swelling, respiratory distress/stridor and vocal cord paralysis in 100%, 8 (30.8%) and 10 (38.5%) cases respectively. PTC was staged according to AJCC-TNM staging system (T4a-24, T4b-02, N1a-12, N1b-14, M0-25, and M1-01). CT-scan showed obvious LTI and tracheal narrowing in 11(42.3%) and 18(69.2%) cases respectively. All cases underwent total thyroidectomy with central-compartment-clearance. Unilateral and bilateral lateral-neck-dissection was performed in 08 and 06cases respectively. Pattern of Intra-operative LTI were as follows: trachea-13cases, trachea and cricoid-05cases, thyroid cartilage-6cases, trachea, cricoid and thyroid cartilage-2 cases and intra-luminal involvement in 4cases. Modified Shin's staging was used to stage LTI. LTI were superficial, deep-extra-luminal and intra-luminal in 13, 09 and 04cases respectively. LTI was managed by shave-excision, window-resection of trachea, sleeve-resection of trachea and anastomosis, partial laryngectomy and total-laryngectomy in 13,02,04,05 and 2 cases respectively. All patients received radio-active-iodine (RAI) and TSH-suppression-therapy post-operatively. Mean follow-up period was two-years (range 18-30 months). One-case had radio-iodine non-avid local recurrence with lung metastases one-year post-operatively. Shave-excision is adequate for tumours not infiltrating into outer perichondrium. Tracheal-resection and total/partial laryngectomy may be required in cases with laryngo-tracheal cartilage or intra-luminal involvement. Management of vestibular stenosis is always a challenge in rhinology, especially for patients with complete vestibular stenosis. The opportunistic infection of post-Covid associated mucormycosis has been reported globally; however, it has reached alarming proportions in India. Mucormycosis of the mandibular region is rare, and only a few cases have been reported to date. Covid associated mucormycosis has not been reported in the literature before, and we are the first to report them. We report two patients who presented with tooth loosening with pus discharge a few weeks following recovery from Covid infection. After tooth extraction adjacent necrotic bony specimen was sent for calcofluor potassium hydroxide mount, which was found positive for broad pauciseptate hyphae. Although CT scan imaging demonstrated the involvement of a mandible segment, we found a much more extensive involvement in both cases during resection. There was intramedullary spread of the mucormycosis throughout the inferior alveolar canal, with pus discharge and foul odor. The management of covid associated mandibular mucormycosis consists of surgical debridement with antifungal therapy and control of the underlying disease. It became challenging because the radiological extent of the disease was different from the definite clinical extension of the lesion found during surgery. The authors recommend surgeons adopt a flexible approach during surgery to plan resection depending on the clinical judgment and not rely entirely on CT scans. The incidence of tracheostomy has been significantly increased with the increase of patients admitted to the intensive care units. Looking into the literature, there have been various protocols proposed in the past for tracheostomy in COVID 19 patients. In the present case series, we have presented our experience of surgical tracheostomy in COVID 19 patients. It is a retrospective case series consisting of 12 COVID 19 patients who underwent tracheostomy from April 2020 to October 2020. We have discussed the tracheostomy in COVID 19 patients with references to their respective indication, location, the procedure, postoperative care and clinical outcomes. Of 12 patients, 6 were operated in the COVID ICU and 6 were operated in the COVID OT. The average duration of the intubation was 4 days (range 3-7 days). The average period of weaning was found to be 65 h (range 48 h 80 h). Of 4 patients associated with comorbidities, two had died 48 h after the surgery. The Primary indication of the tracheostomy can be made flexible based on the infrastructure of the hospital to accommodate increased patient load in a developing country like India. The location and surgical approach does not significantly affect the clinical outcomes of tracheostomy, and it can be safely performed in ICU/OT with adequate ventilation. Although absorbable nasal packings have been abundantly used in the recent time, the conventional packings are still used in different sinonasal surgeries in the various parts of the globe due to their lower cost. To compare the effectiveness of the balloon tamponade (Rapid Rhino) with Merocel nasal pack in sinonasal diseases. This study was conducted from July 2018 to July 2019 in a tertiary care referral hospital. Rapid Rhino and Merocel were put in 30 patients and 31 patients, respectively. Pain, bleeding, and mucosal healing was evaluated and compared between two groups postoperatively. The reduction in the pain and postoperative bleeding was significant with balloon tamponade (Rapid Rhino) compared to the Merocel ( p  < .05). Although insignificant ( p  > 0.05), patients with balloon tamponade nasal packs had less crusting and synechia in the postoperative period. To compare the efficacy between the commonly used sealing materials, i.e., adipose tissue and the gelfoam in primary endoscopic stapedotomy. Lobular fat and gelfoam have been used in patients who underwent endoscopic stapedotomy between two groups, each containing 29 patients. The hearing outcomes and postoperative complications were compared at the end of 12 weeks between two groups. The ABG of ≤ 10 dB was achieved in 69% of cases in group A and 76% of cases in group B. There was a significant short-term (1 week) improvement in the Dizziness Handicap Inventory score ( p  = 00) with patients of adipose tissue seal compared to the gelfoam. Purpose: To assess the utility of the combined use of pectoralis major myocutaneous (PMMC) flap and deltopectoral flap (DP) in advanced oral cavity cancers in the Indian population., Materials and Methods: It is a retrospective study, considering 29 patients with stage IV carcinoma of the oral cavity, from July 2015 to February 2019. Both pectoralis major Myocutaneous flaps and deltopectoral flaps were used for stage IV oral cancers involving the full-thickness cheek and the mandibular cortex. The reliability of the flaps and clinical outcomes were evaluated in the postoperative period., Results: Of the 29 patients, partial necrosis of the skin island was detected in 6 patients, 2 patients presented with wound dehiscence, and one patient had an orocutaneous fistula. Recurrence was detected in 3(10.34%) patients, in one patient, it was at the primary site and in 2 patients, it was in the neck. When different parameters were compared between the patients with complications and without complications, the comorbidities like smoking and alcohol intake adversely affected the flap survival in the postoperative period., Conclusions: The combined use of PMMC and DP flap can be a reliable option for advanced oral malignancies, especially in patients with poor performance status with the coexisting chronic illness. Background: Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) are on the rise worldwide. The diagnosis and treatment of NTM disease create a dilemma for physicians as their clinical features often overlap with that of tuberculosis (TB). The present study aims to report a series of NTM infections presenting as suspected TB., Methods: It was a prospective observational study starting from December 2018 to January 2022. A total of 1850 suspected TB patients (pulmonary = 522 and extrapulmonary = 1328) were included in this study. Clinical features, radiological findings, microbiological diagnosis, treatment, and outcome were recorded. Clinical specimens were processed for Ziehl-Neelsen staining, GeneXpert MTB/Rif assay by cartridge-based nucleic acid amplification test, and culture. The culture-positive isolates were categorized as Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex or NTM depending on the detection of MPT64 antigen by immunochromatographic test. The NTM isolates were speciated by line probe assay using GenoType® Mycobacterium common mycobacteria kit. The criteria of the American Thoracic Society/Infectious Diseases Society of America were applied to confirm NTM disease., Results: Of 1850 suspected TB patients, NTM disease was diagnosed in 20 patients (pulmonary = 9, nonpulmonary = 11). Eight NTM cases presented as suspected drug-resistant-TB with a history of antitubercular therapy. Among pulmonary NTM cases, Mycobacterium scrofulaceum (n = 7) was the most common species followed by Mycobacterium kansasii (n = 1) and Mycobacterium intracellulare (n = 1). In nonpulmonary cases, Mycobacterium abscessus (n = 8) was involved in majority of cases followed by Mycobacterium fortuitum (n = 3). Cavitary lung disease and laparoscopic port site infections were most frequent pulmonary and non-pulmonary manifestations respectively., Conclusion: Hence, there is an urgent need for better diagnostic and drug susceptibility testing facility along with standardized treatment protocol for NTM disease., Competing Interests: None
