Kidney dysfunction can profoundly influence many organ systems, and recent evidence suggests a potential role for increased albuminuria in the development of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or dementia. Epidemiological studies conducted in different populations have demonstrated that the presence of increased albuminuria is associated with a higher relative risk of MCI or dementia both in cross-sectional analyses and in studies with long-term follow-up. The underlying pathophysiological mechanisms of albuminuria’s effect are as yet insufficiently studied, with several important knowledge gaps still present in a complex relationship with other MCI and dementia risk factors. Both the kidney and the brain have microvascular similarities that make them sensitive to endothelial dysfunction involving different mechanisms, including oxidative stress and inflammation. The exact substrate of MCI and dementia is still under investigation, however available experimental data indicate that elevated albuminuria and low glomerular filtration rate are associated with significant neuroanatomical declines in hippocampal function and grey matter volume. Thus, albuminuria may be critical in the development of cognitive impairment and its progression to dementia. In this review, we summarize the available evidence on albuminuria’s link to MCI and dementia, point to existing gaps in our knowledge and suggest actions to overcome them. The major question of whether interventions that target increased albuminuria could prevent cognitive decline remains unanswered. Our recommendations for future research are aimed at helping to plan clinical trials and to solve the complex conundrum outlined in this review, with the ultimate goal of improving the lives of patients with chronic kidney disease., Graphical Abstract Graphical Abstract

50 corpses from adults aged 20 to 75 have been used in order to study the atherosclerotic lesions occurring in typical regions (bifurcation of the common carotid artery and the abdominal aorta) and their relationship to atherosclerotic changes in the inferior alveolar artery. Histological analysis revealed that atherosclerotic alterations of the inferior alveolar artery may appear sometimes earlier than it would be expected on the ground of age. Intima cell proliferation and thickening of elastic elements in the middle layer of the arterial wall, the first signs of atherosclerosis, were found already at the beginning of the third decade of life when the signs of this process in the typical regions were not yet evident. Atherosclerosis affects essentially the functional capacity of the inferior alveolar artery. The development of atherosclerosis in the wall of this artery favours an hypovascularization of the mandible, which must be of certain importance in every operative procedure in oral surgery, especially in those inducing a severe and long traumatism in bone and soft tissues, such as dental implantations., Cette étude, faite sur 50 cadavres (de 20 à 75 ans) concerne les altérations athéroscléreuses de l’artère dentaire inférieure et leurs rapports avec les altérations athéroscléreuses dans les territoires typiques (bifurcation carotidienne et aorte abdominale). Results of morphometric analysis of the mandibular canal (MC), carried out on 105 conserved mandibles, 70 being dentate and 35 edentate, was performed. The analysis was carried out on consecutive sections, at mutual intervals of 0.5 cm. In the mandibular ramus sections were carried out obliquely, approximately in the frontal plane, and horizontally, from mandibular foramen to the lowest region of the vertical part of the MC (all together two sections). In the mandibular corpus, consecutive transversal sections were carried out between existing teeth, or at mutual intervals of 0.5 cm in edentate regions.The obtained results pointed out the very close relationship between the MC and lingual cortical plate of the mandibular ramus. In its horizontal part, the average diameter of the MC was 2.6 mm. It was situated more lingually in the molar region; towards the front, it approached the vestibular cortical plate, being closest to it in the region of the second premolar. Similar relationships of the MC and both cortical plates existed in edentate jaws. Relationships of the MC and tooth root apices varied; however, the MC was closest to the apices of the third molar. Mesially from the mental foramen, a clearly defined incisive canal was present in 92% of the dentale mandibles, but only in 31% of the edentate ones. The nearest to the incisive canal was the apex of the first premolar.The authors point out the importance of presented results in everyday practice, especially in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Having in mind the existing relationship between the MC and neighbouring structures, it is possible to avoid the injury of its content during several oral surgical procedures in mandibular ramus and corpus., L’analyse morphométrique du canal mandibulaire (CM) a été faite sur 105 mandibules conservées. Les distances du CM de la couche compacte osseuse de la mandibule et des apex des racines dentaires ont été mesurées sur les coupes successives pratiquées à une distance de 0,5 cm. Dans la région de la branche montante mandibulaire les coupes successives ont été pratiquées suivant le plan horizontal, de l'orifice postérieur du canal mandibulaire à la terminaison de la partie verticale du CM. La région du corps mandibulaire a été traitée par des coupes verticales. Ces sections ont été faites successivement à travers l’espace entre chaque deux dents ou à une distance de 0,5 cm dans les régions édentées.Les résultats obtenus montrent que le CM se dirige obliquement de haut en bas et en avant, très proche de la lame osseuse linguale. Dans la partie horizontale son diamètre est de 2,6 mm en moyenne. Dans la région des dents molaires le CM est très proche de la lame osseuse linguale; en cheminant en avant, le CM s’approche de la lame osseuse buccale dont il est le plus proche dans la région de la P2. Dans les mandibules édentées, le CM a des rapports semblables.La distance du CM des apex des racines dentaires est variable, pourtant il est le plus proche des apex des racines de la M3. Mésialement du trou mentonnier, le canal incisif était clairement individualisé dans 92% des mandibules avec la denture conservée, et dans 31% des mandibules édentées. La première prémolaire était la plus proche du canal incisif.Les auteurs montrent l’importance des résultats présentés pour la stomatologie clinique, surtout pour la chirurgie orale et maxillofaciale. Compte tenu des rapports du CM avec les structures voisines on peut éviter des lésions de son contenu au cours de certaines interventions chirurgicales sur la branche montante et sur le corps de la mandibule.

Osseous structure of the ramus of mandible (RM) is of a practical clinical significance. Osteosynthesis of fractured segments and the success of the sagittal or the horizontal ramus split osteotomy depends on the cortical bone disposition and thickness.After morphometric investigations of the RM, conducted on 70 mandibles of adults, consecutive horizontal and frontal sections were made. On these sections, the cortical layer was studied and the cortical bone thickness was measured at four previously marked points.In the regard of morphometry, the significant datum is that nearly half of all the cases is grouped round the mean value of any parameter.Cortical bone is continuous and its two main sheets are the buccal and the lingual cortical plates. In its entirety, the buccal cortical plate is thicker than the lingual. The thickness of both cortical plates increases in the direction from the coronoid process to the angle of mandible., L’ostéosynthèse de la branche montante de la mandibule et le succès de l’ostéotomie sagittale ou horizontale de cette branche dépendent de la disposition et de l’épaisseur de sa couche osseuse compacte. The change of the inferior dental artery connected with age.The inferior dental artery is, in its intraosseus part a blood vessel that undergoes changes during life.Its changes as well as far as the anatomy is concerned as the structure of its wall.Because of the hypertrophy of its elastic blade in advanced age, this vessel becomes sinuous. The thickening of its walls reduces its lulen which makes the artery angiographically «inconstant» and its identification uncertain. Because of the apparition of asymetric atheromateous changes, the diameter of the artery becomes unequal.The structure changes of the inferior dental artery, together with the lass of teeth might be one of the essentiel factors in the progressive atrophy of the alveolar bone but also of the whole body of the mandible.

The investigations of relations and position of the mandibular canal (CM) were carried out on 80 mandibles (33 dentulous, 27 partly edentulous and 20 completely edentulous).The studies of relations of CM to the sides of mandibular body were accomplished by morphometric analysis of CM on consecutive transversal sections of mandibular body (54 preparations). The relation of the CM to be buccal or to the lingual side is expressed as the distance from the surface of the correspondent side of the mandibular body, which is shown in Table 1. According to these data, the position of the canal is at first proximate to the lingual side, and from the first molar tooth (M1) it approaches the buccal surface of the mandibular body.The position of the entire CM was determined by analysis of mandibular preparations (26) after removing the buccal osseous lamina. These investigations revealed that the position of the CM is predominantly buccal. Reconstruction of relations of the CM to the sides of mandibular body, according to the data obtained from transversal sections, and the real position of the CM are presented in Scheme I.The difference in direction lines of relations and of predominant position of the CM is a consequence of morphological characteristics of mandibular body., Le CM a été étudié sur 80 mandibules (dont 33 avec la denture conservée, 27 peu édentées et 20 totalement édentées). International audience; The water mite genus Protolimnesia Lundblad, 1927 is distributed in South and Central America, the Caribbean (Haiti) and southern parts of the USA (Goldschmidt 2004). One odd record is known from Oman (Smit & Pe¨ić 2010). In addition to the nominate subgenus, the genus also includes Protolimnesella Cook, 1980 and Voldroguella Cook, 1981, typical inhabitants of interstitial habitats (Goldschmidt 2004). The nominate subgenus includes seven species and subspecies, most of them are stream-dwellers, but Protolimnesia longa Besch, 1963 appears to be a characteristic inhabitant of the interstitial of intermittent streams. This species was described by Besch (1963) based on a single male from the interstitial of a dry stream at 1200 m altitude in Argentina. Since then, no further records of this species were published. In the original description Besch (1963) illustrated only the ventral and dorsal side. Smit (2002) and Goldschmidt (2004) re-examined the holotype of P. longa deposited in the Viets Collection (SMF) and provided illustrations of the palp and ejaculatory complex, respectively. However, some important characteristics are neither given in the original description nor are visible in the type material. Smit (2002) mentioned that both fourth legs in the holotype slide are positioned in such a way that examination of the claws of IV-L-6 is not possible, Goldschmidt (2004) stated that the ejaculatory complex in the type is mounted laterally and most probably squashed.

The aim was to investigate the possibility of introducing leafless or semi-leafless features from afila cultivar "Filigreen" in early, mid-early and late pea cultivars. F1 and F2 generations were grown together in a single nursery during year 2006. F1 plants with normal leaves were obtained thus proving that afila is a recessive characteristic. The total of 1490 F2 plants segregated with 2.93 plants with normal leaves to 1.07 with afila leaves. Chi-square test confirmed monohybrid model of inheritance 3:1. Afila plants with differing maturity dates were obtained. The best recombination's, in terms of grain yield per plant, were obtained by crossing "Filigreen" x "Maja" (early cultivar), "Filigreen" x "Oskar" (mid-early cultivar) and "Filigreen" x "Zelena dolina" (late cultivar). Grain yield of F2 afila plants was reduced by 6-18% in relation to grain yield of normal plants (depending on parents, combinations). Grain yield was reduced, in average, by 10% for afila plants compared to normal (leafy) plants in the F2 for all possible crosses.

Bharatavolzia (Bharatavolziella) arabica n. sp (Figures 1 A-E) Type series — Holotype female, stream Wadi Bani Auf, Oman, 23°16.699 N 57°27.690 E, alt. 655 m, 13-xi-2008. Diagnosis — Gnathosoma slender in ventral view; P-4, in addition to the medial seta, with a heavy anteroventral seta. Description Female — Idiosoma dorsally L 802, W 520, with a large anteromedial and a large posteromedial plate and five pairs of smaller lateral plates. Eyes absent. Anteromedial plate L 263, W 336, anteriorly with a rounded extension. Posteromedial plate L 482, W 300. Large anterolateral plate L 243, W 102; large posterolateral plate L 251, W 70. All dorsal plates and platelets without glandularia, but the associated setae present. Idiosoma ventrally L 867, W 502. Suture lines of coxal plates indistinct. All legs with large claws. Male — Unknown. Etymology — Named after the Arabian Peninsula. Remarks — This is the fourth known species of the genus Bharatavolzia, two species are known from India (Cook, 1967), while one species is known from Iran (Schwoerbel and Sepasgosarian, 1980). Cook (1967) erected the subgenus Bharatavolziella for species without eye capsules. The new species differs from the two other known species of this subgenus in the slender gnathosoma and the presence of two heavy setae on P-4 instead of one or none. Moreover, compared to the Indian B. pallida Cook the new species has a larger anterior extension of the anteromedial dorsal plate, and compared to B. cooki Schwoerbel and Sepasgosarian from Iran the large anterolateral plate is less slender. Omanaxonopsis gen. nov. Diagnosis — Characters of the Aturidae and the subfamily Axonopsinae. Dorsal and ventral shields anteriorly fused; dorsal shield with four pairs of glandularia and a pair of postocularia; no ridge on each side extending anteriorly from area of insertion of fourth coxae; lateral margins of ventral shield with an irregular truncate projection on each side located considerably posterior to the insertions of the fourth leg; one pair of glandularia lying between the genital field and insertions of the fourth legs; genital field with 5-6 pairs of acetabula, acetabular plates fused with the ventral shield; leg claws with dorsal and ventral clawlets. A new halacarid species belonging to the genus Atelopsalis is described from the east coast of Zanzibar,Tanzania. Atelopsalis zanzibari sp. nov. is characterized by an anterior areola and two longitudinal costae on anterior dorsal plate, posterior dorsal plate with four costae, genu I with one spine, genu II devoid of spine. This is the first report of the genus Atelopsalis from Tanzania.

Arhodeoporus tanzanicus sp. nov. is described on the basis of the specimens collected from Pingwe, the eastcoast of Zanzibar, Tanzania. This is the first record of the genus from Tanzania. This species is a member of the longirostris group and characterized by dorsal seta-5 posterior to the anterior gland pore on posterior dorsal plate (PD), anterior margin of PD truncate, ocular plate with long tail surpassing the level of anterior gland pore on PD, rostrum longer than gnathosomal base, tip of rostrum extending to basal part of fourth palpal segment, bipectinate setae on tibiae I-IV: 0-2-1-1.

Acineta persiensis Dovgal et Pesic, sp. n. — a new suctorian ciliate species, was described from specimens collected in Guik stream, Khorrasan Province, Iran and in Stream Bistrica near village Crkvine, Montenegro. The suctorian was found colonizing the legs of the hydrachnid mites Protzia sepasgosariani and P. invalvaris. A new species differs from other species of the genus Acineta in the lorica structure, stalk morphology, the ability to hyperphoretic pseudocolonies formation and geographical distribution. The specimens studied have an oval elongate and vaulted habitus which equals that of H. discretus discretus from e. g. France and Germany. Mature specimens have dark brownish elytra, and a black pronotum with its lateral beading sometimes brownish. The base of the elytra is light brown, and some specimens have a rather distinct yellowish brown spot on the shoulders. The aedeagus is similar to that of H. discretus from other regions. Measurements: TL: 3.0– 3.35 mm, MW: 1.6–1.75 mm; TL/MW: 1.82–1.94.

N o t e s: The lecto- and paralectotypes designated above are those specimens of which KINEL (1949: 396) reports that he has found them with the labels cited above in the "Naturhistorisches Staatsmuseum à Vienne " (= NMW). He has also studied other specimens collected by Stobiecki ("... repandu dans mainte collection privée...") and in particular 15 specimens collected by M. Rybínski in the Tatra mountains at "Zielony Staw Gasienicowy" which were stored in the "Musée d’histoire naturelle de l’Académie des Sciences Polonaise à Cracovie [Kraków]". We were not able to study these specimens, however, they have to be considered as paralectotypes nevertheless. Descriptive notes: The specimens studied are somewhat broader and slightly more depressed than H. discretus from e. g France and Germany, and thus resemble on a first glance H. macedonicus. The habitus, however, is distinctly more evenly rounded and less stout than in the new species. The elytral base bears up to three light brown to almost yellowish, but confused and indistinctly delimited spots, extending in some specimens internally as far as the suture; the sides of the elytra are – in particular in the posterior third – somewhat lightened; the rest of the elytra is of a blackish brown, while the pronotum is black, except – in a few specimens – the brownish lateral bead. The aedeagus is similar to that of H. discretus from other regions. Measurements: TL: 3.2–3.3 mm, MW: 1.7–1.8 mm; TL/MW: 1.83–1.94. Notes: GALEWSKI (1971: 14) treated Kinel’s taxon as a synonym of H. discretus without giving any reason for this.
