In this work, we uncover a collection of non invertible topological operators linked to the 0-, 2-, 4- and 6-form symmetries related to the type IIB superstring effective theory. By pinpointing the $\text{SL}(2,\mathbb{Z})$-covariant conserved currents corresponding to these symmetries, we first derive a set of $\text{SL}(2,\mathbb{Z})$ invariant invertible topological operators that encapsulate the integer BPS charges inherent to the theory. Moving forward, by incorporating fractional charges while maintaining gauge invariance, we introduce the non invertible topological operators for each generalized symmetry, and in particular for the $\text{SL}(2,\mathbb{Z})$ 0-form symmetry. We present a pioneering spatially-resolved, multi-phase gas abundance study on the blue compact dwarf galaxy NGC~5253, targeting 10 star-forming (SF) clusters inside six FUV HST/COS pointings with co-spatial optical VLT/MUSE observations throughout the galaxy. The SF regions span a wide range of ages (1--15 Myr) and are distributed at different radii (50 -- 230 pc). We performed robust absorption-line profile fitting on the COS spectra, covering 1065--1430 \AA\ in the FUV, allowing an accurate computation of neutral-gas abundances for 13 different ions sampling 8 elements. These values were then compared with the ionized-gas abundances, measured using the direct method on MUSE integrated spectra inside analog COS apertures. Our multi-phase, spatially resolved comparisons find abundances which are lower in the neutral gas than the ionized gas by 0.22 dex, 0.80 dex and 0.58 dex for log(O/H), log(N/H) and log(N/O), respectively. We modeled the chemical abundance distributions and evaluated correlations as a function of radius and age. It was found that while N, O and N/O abundances decrease as a function of age in the ionized gas, they increase with age in the neutral gas. No strong correlations for N, O or N/O were observed as a function of radius. The N/O and N/H offsets between the phases were found to decrease with age, providing evidence that chemical enrichment happens differentially, first in the ionized-gas phase around 2--5 Myrs (due to N-rich Wolf-Rayet stars) and then mixing out into the cold neutral gas on longer timescales of 10--15 Myr., Comment: 40 pages, 14 Figures. We consider massive type IIA compactifications down to 4 dimensions in presence of O6 planes and D6 branes parallel to them, in order to preserve half-maximal supersymmetry in 4D. The dynamics of open strings living on the spacetime filling branes is taken into account, in the gauged supergravity description, by adding extra vector multiplets and embedding tensor components. The scalar potential gets new terms that can be matched with contributions coming from dimensional reduction of the non-Abelian DBI and WZ brane actions. In this setting, we analyze the vacuum structure of the theory and find novel AdS$_4$ vacua, both supersymmetric and non-supersymmetric ones. Furthermore, we address their perturbative stability by computing their mass spectra. Some of the vacua are found to be perturbatively stable, despite their being non-supersymmetric. The dualization of the scalar fields of a theory into (d-2)-form potentials preserving all the global symmetries is one of the main problems in the construction of democratic pseudoactions containing simultaneously all the original fields and their duals. We study this problem starting with the simplest cases and we show how it can be solved for scalars parametrizing Riemannian symmetric sigma-models as in maximal and half-maximal supergravities. Then, we use this result to write democratic pseudoactions for theories in which the scalars are non-minimally coupled to (p+1)-form potentials in any dimension. These results include a proposal of democratic pseudoaction for the generic bosonic sector of 4-dimensional maximal and half-maximal ungauged supergravities. Furthermore, we propose a democratic pseudoaction for the bosonic sector of N=2B,d=10 supergravity (the effective action of the type IIB superstring theory) containing two 0-, two 2-, one 4-, two 6- and three 8-forms which is manifestly invariant under global SL(2,R) transformations., Comment: Misprints corrected in text and some equations. Since Pretrained Language Models (PLMs) are the cornerstone of the most recent Information Retrieval (IR) models, the way they encode semantic knowledge is particularly important. However, little attention has been given to studying the PLMs' capability to capture hierarchical semantic knowledge. Traditionally, evaluating such knowledge encoded in PLMs relies on their performance on a task-dependent evaluation approach based on proxy tasks, such as hypernymy detection. Unfortunately, this approach potentially ignores other implicit and complex taxonomic relations. In this work, we propose a task-agnostic evaluation method able to evaluate to what extent PLMs can capture complex taxonomy relations, such as ancestors and siblings. The evaluation is based on intrinsic properties that capture the hierarchical nature of taxonomies. Our experimental evaluation shows that the lexico-semantic knowledge implicitly encoded in PLMs does not always capture hierarchical relations. We further demonstrate that the proposed properties can be injected into PLMs to improve their understanding of hierarchy. Through evaluations on taxonomy reconstruction, hypernym discovery and reading comprehension tasks, we show that the knowledge about hierarchy is moderately but not systematically transferable across tasks., Comment: Accepted at ECIR 2024

We introduce the MUSE gAlaxy Groups in COSMOS (MAGIC) survey, which was built to study the impact of environment on galaxy evolution over the last 8 Gyr. It consists of 17 MUSE fields targeting 14 massive structures at intermediate redshift ($0.321.5$. The spectroscopic redshift completeness is high: in the redshift range of [OII] emitters ($0.25 \le z < 1.5$), where most of the groups are found, it globally reaches a maximum of 80% down to $z_{app}^{++}=25.9$, and locally decreases from $\sim 100$% to $\sim50$% in magnitude bins from $z_{app}^{++}=23-24$ to $z_{app}^{++}=25.5$. We find that the fraction of quiescent galaxies increases with local density and with the time spent in groups. A morphological dichotomy is also found between bulge-dominated quiescent and disk-dominated star-forming galaxies. As environment gets denser, the peak of the stellar mass distribution shifts towards $M_*>10^{10}~M_\odot$, and the fraction of galaxies with $M_*<10^9~M_\odot$ decreases significantly, even for star-forming galaxies. We also highlight peculiar features such as close groups, extended nebulae, and a gravitational arc. Our results suggest that galaxies are preprocessed in groups of increasing mass before entering rich groups and clusters. Quantum computing is a rapidly emerging and promising field that has the potential to revolutionize numerous research domains, including drug design, network technologies and sustainable energy. Due to the inherent complexity and divergence from classical computing, several major quantum computing libraries have been developed to implement quantum algorithms, namely IBM Qiskit, Amazon Braket, Cirq, PyQuil, and PennyLane. These libraries allow for quantum simulations on classical computers and facilitate program execution on corresponding quantum hardware, e.g., Qiskit programs on IBM quantum computers. While all platforms have some differences, the main concepts are the same. QInterpreter is a tool embedded in the Quantum Science Gateway QubitHub using Jupyter Notebooks that translates seamlessly programs from one library to the other and visualizes the results. It combines the five well-known quantum libraries: into a unified framework. Designed as an educational tool for beginners, Qinterpreter enables the development and execution of quantum circuits across various platforms in a straightforward way. There are many users of audio streaming services because of the proliferation of cloud-based audio streaming services for different content. The complex networks that support these services do not always guarantee an acceptable quality on the end-user side. In this paper, the impact of temporal interruptions on the reproduction of audio streaming and the users preference in relation to audio contents are studied. In order to determine the key parameters in the audio streaming service, subjective tests were conducted, and their results show that users Quality-of-Experience (QoE) is highly correlated with the following application parameters, the number of temporal interruptions or stalls, its frequency and length, and the temporal location in which they occur. However, most important, experimental results demonstrated that users preference for audio content plays an important role in users QoE. Thus, a Preference Factor (PF) function is defined and considered in the formulation of the proposed metric named Audio streaming Quality Metric (AsQM). Considering that multimedia service providers are based on web servers, a framework to obtain user information is proposed. Furthermore, results show that the AsQM implemented in the audio player of an end users device presents a low impact on energy, processing and memory consumption., Comment: 11 pages

Aims: At intermediate redshift, galaxy groups/clusters are thought to impact galaxies (e.g. their angular momentum). We investigate whether the environment has an impact on the galaxies' angular momentum and identify underlying driving physical mechanisms. Methods: We derive robust estimates of the stellar angular momentum using Hubble Space Telescope (HST) images combined with spatially resolved ionised gas kinematics from the Multi-Unit Spectroscopic Explorer (MUSE) for a sample of ~200 galaxies in groups and in the field at z~0.7 drawn from the MAGIC survey. Using various environmental tracers, we study the position of the galaxies in the the angular momentum-stellar mass (Fall) relation as a function of environment. Results: We measure a 0.12 dex (2sigma significant) depletion of angular momentum for low-mass galaxies (M* < 10^10 Msun) in groups with respect to the field. Massive galaxies located in dense environments have less angular momentum than expected from the low-mass Fall relation but, without a comparable field sample, we cannot infer whether this effect is mass- or environmentally-driven. Furthermore, massive galaxies are found in the centre of the structures and have low systemic velocities. The observed depletion of angular momentum at low mass does not appear linked with the strength of the over-density around the galaxies but it is strongly correlated with the galaxies' systemic velocity normalised by the dispersion of their host group and with their ionised gas velocity dispersion. Conclusions: Group galaxies seem depleted in angular momentum, especially at low mass. Our results suggest that this depletion might be induced by physical mechanisms that scale with the systemic velocity of the galaxies (e.g. stripping or merging) and that such mechanism might be responsible for enhancing the velocity dispersion of the gas as galaxies lose angular momentum., Comment: 23 pages, including 5 appendices, 14 figures, accepted version before language correction

The mechanical properties of crystals on curved substrates mix elastic, geometric and topological degrees of freedom. In order to elucidate the properties of such crystals we formulate the low-energy effective action that combines metric degrees of freedom with displacement fields and defects. We propose dualities for elasticity coupled to curved geometry formulated in terms of tensor gauge theories. We show that the metric degrees of freedom, evolving akin to linearized gravity are mapped to tensors with three indices. When coupled to crystals these degrees of freedom become gapped and, in the presence of dislocations and disclinations, multivalued. The elastic degrees of freedom remain gapless and mapped to symmetric gauge fields with two indices. In analogy with elasticity on flat space formulation we assume that the trace of the total quadrupole moment is conserved. In the dual formulation, topological defects, which act as sources for the gauge fields, are fractons or excitations with restricted mobility. We consider type IIB compactifications on a general 4D group manifold with different types of possible spacetime filling O-planes and the corresponding D-branes parallel to them. Once fluxes allowed by the associated orientifold projection are included, a 6D $\mathcal{N}=(1,1)$ gauged supergravity is obtained. In this paper we show how the consistent coupling to dynamical open strings living on the spacetime filling D-branes may be captured by the inclusion of extra vector multiplets and extra embedding tensor deformations on the gauged supergravity side. As a result, the quadratic constraints on the embedding tensor consistently reproduce the source corrected 10D Bianchi identities. Furthermore, the field strength modifications induced by the open string sector could potentially be understood as U-dual versions of the Green-Schwarz terms. A variational method for studying the ground state of strongly interacting quantum many-body bosonic systems is presented. Our approach constructs a class of extensive variational non-Gaussian wavefunctions which extend Gaussian states by means of nonlinear canonical transformations (NLCT) on the fields of the theory under consideration. We illustrate this method with the one dimensional Bose-Hubbard model for which the proposal presented here, provides a family of approximate ground states at arbitrarily large values of the interaction strength. We find that, for different values of the interaction, the non-Gaussian NLCT-trial states sensibly improve the ground state energy estimation when the system is in the Mott phase., Comment: 10 pages, 2 figures

The Huqariq corpus is a multilingual collection of speech from native Peruvian languages. The transcribed corpus is intended for the research and development of speech technologies to preserve endangered languages in Peru. Huqariq is primarily designed for the development of automatic speech recognition, language identification and text-to-speech tools. In order to achieve corpus collection sustainably, we employ the crowdsourcing methodology. Huqariq includes four native languages of Peru, and it is expected that by the end of the year 2022, it can reach up to 20 native languages out of the 48 native languages in Peru. The corpus has 220 hours of transcribed audio recorded by more than 500 volunteers, making it the largest speech corpus for native languages in Peru. This chapter summarizes the results obtained from a test bed, which is composed of a microgrid and a wireless network, both relying on real and practical premises. This test bed aims to evaluate application protocols considered in the transport layer of the standard IEC-61850. The application is a data gathering system, where IEC-61850 messages are transmitted from and between different elements in a microgrid system, such as IED, publishers, and subscribers, which are node elements that are part of the utility grid. The standard IEC-61850 defines many protocols, such as SV, GOOSE, and MMS, each of them with a variety of requirements and sharing similar transport communication protocols, such as TCP and UDP. Hence, a testing framework is used in the test bed in order to evaluate the performance of these protocols aiming to enable the communication in a real microgrid deployment. The IEC-61850 messages transported by TCP or UDP are transmitted to a centralized location, where a local database stores the information under different test scenarios and using different transmission sample times. The overall results are promising and indicate that the protocols based on TCP in combination with a 5G cellular network architecture would be suitable for most applications within the studied microgrid case. The evolution of galaxies is influenced by many physical processes which may vary depending on their environment. We combine Hubble Space Telescope (HST) and Multi-Unit Spectroscopic Explorer (MUSE) data of galaxies at 0.25

Using the exquisite MUSE eXtremely Deep Field data, we report the discovery of an MgII emission nebula with an area above a 2$\sigma$ significance level of 1000 proper kpc$^2$, providing the first panoramic view of the spatial distribution of magnesium in the intragroup medium of a low mass group of five star-forming galaxies at z=1.31. The galaxy group members are separated by less than 50 physical kpc in projection and $\approx$120 km/s in velocity space. The most massive galaxy has a stellar mass of 10$^{9.35}$ M$_\odot$ and shows an MgII P-Cygni line profile indicating the presence of an outflow, which is consistent with the spatially resolved spectral analysis showing $\approx+$120 km/s shift of the MgII emission lines with respect to the systemic redshift. The other galaxies are less massive and only show MgII in emission. The detected MgII nebula has a maximal projected extent of $\approx$70 kpc including a low surface brightness (2 $\times$ 10$^{-19}$ erg/s/cm$^{2}$/arcsec$^{2}$) gaseous bridge between two subgroups of galaxies. The presence of absorption features in the spectrum of a background galaxy located at an impact parameter of 19 kpc from the closest galaxy of the group indicates the presence of gas enriched in magnesium even beyond the detected nebula seen in emission, suggesting that we are observing the tip of a larger intragroup medium. The observed MgII velocity gradient suggests an overall rotation of the structure along the major axis of the most massive galaxy. Our MUSE data also reveal extended Fe II* emission in the vicinity of the most massive galaxy, aligned with its minor axis. Extended [OII] emission is found around the galaxy group members and at the location of the MgII bridge. We study the non-perturbative harvesting of classical and quantum correlations between two parties coupled to a quantum field. First, we consider a scenario with an arbitrary number of two-level systems that couple to a quantum field locally in time. Then, we study the impact of the presence of additional detectors (interlopers) on the ability for two target detectors (Alice and Bob) to acquire correlations through their interaction with the field. We analyze the harvesting of different correlation measures in this non-perturbative regime and we demonstrate that even a single interloper can completely sabotage all correlation harvesting between Alice and Bob by acting on the causal past of one of them. Specifically, we show that the interloper is able to interact with the field so that the field itself `floods' one of the parties with entropy. Disc-halo decomposition on rotationally supported star-forming galaxies (SFGs) at $z>1$ are often limited to massive galaxies ($M_\star>10^{10}~M_\odot$) and rely on either deep Integral Field Spectroscopy data or stacking analyses. We present a study of the dark matter (DM) content of nine $z\approx1$ SFGs selected Using the brightest [OII] emitters in the deepest Multi-Unit Spectrograph Explorer (MUSE) field to date, namely the 140hr MUSE Extremely Deep Field, we perform disk-halo decompositions on 9 low-mass SFGs (with $10^{8.5}10^{10}~M_\odot$. The DM halos show constant surface densities of $\sim100~M_\odot$ pc$^{-2}$. Half of the sample shows a strong preference for cored over cuspy DM profiles. The presence of DM cores appears to be related to galaxies with stellar-to-halo mass $\log M_\star/M_{\rm vir}\approx-2.5$. In addition, the cuspiness of the DM profiles is found to be a strong function of the recent star-formation activity. In this work, we compute the entanglement entropy in continuous icMERA tensor networks for large $N$ models at strong coupling. Our results show that the $1/N$ quantum corrections to the Fisher information metric (interpreted as a local bond dimension of the tensor network) in an icMERA circuit, are related to quantum corrections to the minimal area surface in the Ryu-Takayanagi formula. Upon picking two different non-Gaussian entanglers to build the icMERA circuit, the results for the entanglement entropy only differ at subleading orders in $1/G_N$, i.e, at the structure of the quantum corrections in the bulk. The fact that the large $N$ part of the entropy can be always related to the leading area term of the holographic calculation is very suggestive. We consider genuine type IIB string theory (supersymmetric) brane intersections that preserve $(1+1)$D Lorentz symmetry. We provide the full supergravity solutions in their analytic form and discuss their physical properties. The Ansatz for the spacetime dependence of the different brane warp factors goes beyond the harmonic superposition principle. By studying the associated near-horizon geometry, we construct interesting classes of AdS$_3$ vacua in type IIB and highlight their relation to the existing classifications in the literature. The continuous Multi Scale Entanglement Renormalization Anstaz (cMERA) consists of a variational method which carries out a real space renormalization scheme on the wavefunctionals of quantum field theories. In this work we calculate the entanglement entropy of the half space for a free scalar theory through a Gaussian cMERA circuit. We obtain the correct entropy written in terms of the optimized cMERA variational parameter, the local density of disentanglers. Accordingly, using the entanglement entropy production per unit scale, we study local areas in the bulk of the tensor network in terms of the differential entanglement generated along the cMERA flow. This result spurs us to establish an explicit relation between the cMERA variational parameter and the radial component of a dual AdS geometry through the Ryu-Takayanagi formula. Finally, based on recent formulations of non-Gaussian cMERA circuits, we argue that the entanglement entropy for the half space can be written as an integral along the renormalization scale whose measure is given by the Fisher information metric of the cMERA circuit. We propose a Leibniz algebra, to be called DD$^+$, which is a generalization of the Drinfel'd double. We find that there is a one-to-one correspondence between a DD$^+$ and a Jacobi--Lie bialgebra, extending the known correspondence between a Lie bialgebra and a Drinfel'd double. We then construct generalized frame fields $E_A{}^M\in\text{O}(D,D)\times\mathbb{R}^+$ satisfying the algebra $\mathcal{L}_{E_A}E_B = - X_{AB}{}^C\,E_C\,$, where $X_{AB}{}^C$ are the structure constants of the DD$^+$ and $\mathcal{L}$ is the generalized Lie derivative in double field theory. We present an algorithm for multi-objective optimization of computationally expensive problems. The proposed algorithm is based on solving a set of surrogate problems defined by models of the real one, so that only solutions estimated to be approximately Pareto-optimal are evaluated using the real expensive functions. Aside of the search for solutions, our algorithm also performs a meta-search for optimal surrogate models and navigation strategies for the optimization landscape, therefore adapting the search strategy for solutions to the problem as new information about it is obtained. Telecommunication service providers have to guarantee acceptable speech quality during a phone call to avoid a negative impact on the users' quality of experience. Currently, there are different speech quality assessment methods. ITU-T Recommendation G.107 describes the E-model algorithm, which is a computational model developed for network planning purposes focused on narrowband (NB) networks. Later, ITU-T Recommendations G.107.1 and G.107.2 were developed for wideband (WB) and fullband (FB) networks. These algorithms use different impairment factors, each one related to different speech communication steps. However, the NB, WB, and FB E-model algorithms do not consider wireless techniques used in these networks, such as Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems, which are used to improve the communication system robustness in the presence of different types of wireless channel degradation. In this context, the main objective of this study is to propose a general methodology to incorporate wireless network parameters into the NB and WB E-model algorithms. To accomplish this goal, MIMO and wireless channel parameters are incorporated into the E-model algorithms, specifically into the $I_{e,eff}$ and $I_{e,eff,WB}$ impairment factors. For performance validation, subjective tests were carried out, and the proposed methodology reached a Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC) and a root mean square error (RMSE) of $0.9732$ and $0.2351$, respectively. We report the discovery of diffuse extended Ly-alpha emission from redshift 3.1 to 4.5, tracing cosmic web filaments on scales of 2.5-4 comoving Mpc. These structures have been observed in overdensities of Ly-alpha emitters in the MUSE Extremely Deep Field, a 140 hour deep MUSE observation located in the Hubble Ultra Deep Field. Among the 22 overdense regions identified, 5 are likely to harbor very extended Ly-alpha emission at high significance with an average surface brightness of $\mathrm{5 \times 10^{-20} erg s^{-1} cm^{-2} arcsec^{-2}}$. Remarkably, 70% of the total Ly-alpha luminosity from these filaments comes from beyond the circumgalactic medium of any identified Ly-alpha emitters. Fluorescent Ly-alpha emission powered by the cosmic UV background can only account for less than 34% of this emission at z$\approx$3 and for not more than 10% at higher redshift. We find that the bulk of this diffuse emission can be reproduced by the unresolved Ly-alpha emission of a large population of ultra low luminosity Ly-alpha emitters ($\mathrm{<10^{40} erg s^{-1}}$), provided that the faint end of the Ly-alpha luminosity function is steep ($\alpha \lessapprox -1.8$), it extends down to luminosities lower than $\mathrm{10^{38} - 10^{37} erg s^{-1}}$ and the clustering of these Ly-alpha emitters is significant (filling factor $< 1/6$). If these Ly-alpha emitters are powered by star formation, then this implies their luminosity function needs to extend down to star formation rates $\mathrm{< 10^{-4} M_\odot yr^{-1}}$. In 2019, the Research and Education Collaborative Occultation Network (RECON) obtained multiple-chord occultation measurements of two centaur objects: 2014 YY$_{49}$ on 2019 January 28 and 2013 NL$_{24}$ on 2019 September 4. RECON is a citizen-science telescope network designed to observe high-uncertainty occultations by outer solar system objects. Adopting circular models for the object profiles, we derive a radius $r=16^{+2}_{-1}$km and a geometric albedo $p_V=0.13^{+0.015}_{-0.024}$ for 2014 YY$_{49}$, and a radius $r=66 ^{+5}_{-5}$km and geometric albedo $p_V = 0.045^{+0.006}_{-0.008}$ for 2013 NL$_{24}$. To the precision of these measurements, no atmosphere or rings are detected for either object. The two objects measured here are among the smallest distant objects measured with the stellar occultation technique. In addition to these geometric constraints, the occultation measurements provide astrometric constraints for these two centaurs at a higher precision than has been feasible by direct imaging. To supplement the occultation results, we also present an analysis of color photometry from the Pan-STARRS surveys to constrain the rotational light curve amplitudes and spectral colors of these two centaurs. We recommend that future work focus on photometry to more deliberately constrain the objects' colors and light curve amplitudes, and on follow-on occultation efforts informed by this astrometry.

Galaxies in dense environments are subject to interactions and mechanisms which directly affect their evolution by lowering their gas fractions and reducing their star-forming capacity earlier than their isolated counterparts. The aim of our project is to get new insights about the role of environment on the stellar and baryonic content of galaxies using a kinematic approach, through the study of the Tully-Fisher relation (TFR). We study a sample of galaxies in 8 groups spanning a redshift range of $0.5

Several deep neural ranking models have been proposed in the recent IR literature. While their transferability to one target domain held by a dataset has been widely addressed using traditional domain adaptation strategies, the question of their cross-domain transferability is still under-studied. We study here in what extent neural ranking models catastrophically forget old knowledge acquired from previously observed domains after acquiring new knowledge, leading to performance decrease on those domains. Our experiments show that the effectiveness of neuralIR ranking models is achieved at the cost of catastrophic forgetting and that a lifelong learning strategy using a cross-domain regularizer success-fully mitigates the problem. Using an explanatory approach built on a regression model, we also show the effect of domain characteristics on the rise of catastrophic forgetting. We believe that the obtained results can be useful for both theoretical and practical future work in neural IR.

In this work we provide a method to study the entanglement entropy for non-Gaussian states that minimize the energy functional of interacting quantum field theories at arbitrary coupling. To this end, we build a class of non-Gaussian variational trial wavefunctionals with the help of exact nonlinear canonical transformations. The calculability \emph{bonanza} shown by these variational \emph{ansatze} allows us to compute the entanglement entropy using the prescription for the ground state of free theories. In free theories, the entanglement entropy is determined by the two-point correlation functions. For the interacting case, we show that these two-point correlators can be replaced by their nonperturbatively corrected counterparts. Upon giving some general formulae for general interacting models we calculate the entanglement entropy of half space and compact regions for the $\phi^4$ scalar field theory in 2D. Finally, we analyze the r\^ole played by higher order correlators in our results and show that strong subadditivity is satisfied., Comment: V1: 23 pp, 3 figures. Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) have been recently considered as one of the emerging technologies for future communication systems by leveraging the tuning capabilities of their reflecting elements. In this paper, we investigate the potential of an RIS-based architecture for uplink sensor data transmission in an ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC) context. In particular, we propose an RIS-aided grant-free access scheme for an industrial control scenario, aiming to exploit diversity and achieve improved reliability performance. We consider two different resource allocation schemes for the uplink transmissions, i.e., dedicated and shared slot assignment, and three different receiver types, namely the zero-forcing, the minimum mean squared error (MMSE), and the MMSE-successive interference cancellation receivers. Our extensive numerical evaluation in terms of outage probability demonstrates the gains of our approach in terms of reliability, resource efficiency, and capacity and for different configurations of the RIS properties. In this work, a non-Gaussian cMERA tensor network for interacting quantum field theories (icMERA) is presented. This consists of a continuous tensor network circuit in which the generator of the entanglement renormalization of the wavefunction is nonperturbatively extended with nonquadratic variational terms. The icMERA circuit nonperturbatively implements a set of scale dependent nonlinear transformations on the fields of the theory, which suppose a generalization of the scale dependent linear transformations induced by the Gaussian cMERA circuit. Here we present these transformations for the case of self-interacting scalar and fermionic field theories. Finally, the icMERA tensor network is fully optimized for the $\lambda \phi^4$ theory in $(1+1)$ dimensions. This allows us to evaluate, nonperturbatively, the connected parts of the two- and four-point correlation functions. Our results show that icMERA wavefunctionals encode proper non-Gaussian correlations of the theory, thus providing a new variational tool to study phenomena related with strongly interacting field theories., Comment: v2: (43 pages) substantial improvement to the optimization procedure of the circuit for the $\phi^4$ model (Section 5.3).
