- Abstract
A survey of instructional development practitioners at 51 Canadian universities investigated the perceived potential of 36 specific practices for improving teaching. Greatest potential was seen in faculty incentives (appointment, tenure, promotion). Administrator support of effective teaching was viewed as important, as were support structures providing faculty development opportunities. (MSE)

Abstract Paleogeography is the merger of sediment and volcanic facies, depositional settings, tectonic plate movements, topography, climate patterns and ecosystems through time. The construction of paleogeographic maps on tectonic plate reconstruction models requires a team effort to compile databases, data sharing standards and map projection methods. Two goals of the Paleogeography Working Group of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) program for Deep‐Time Digital Earth (DDE) are: (1) to interlink online national lexicons for all sedimentary and volcanic formations, and develop online ones for nations that currently lack these; (2) to target specific regions and intervals for testing/showcasing paleogeography output from the merger of these databases. Following those goals, we developed and applied new cloud‐based lexicon data services and interactive visualization techniques to regions in East Asia. This has been a successful collaboration among computer engineers and plate modellers and has involved stratigraphers in India (ONGC), China (Chengdu Univ. Tech., and Chinese Acad. Geol. Sci.), United States (Paleomap Project, and Purdue Univ.), Australia (GPlates visualization team) and Vietnam (Vietnam Nat. Univ.). Independent online lexicons with map‐based and stratigraphy‐based user interfaces have been developed (as of the date of this submission in March 2022) for all Proterozoic to Quaternary formations on the Indian Plate (over 800) and Vietnam (over 200), the majority of the Devonian through Neogene of China (ca. 2000) and partially for Thailand. A multi‐database search system returns all geologic formations of a desired geologic time from these four independent databases. With one click, users can plot the regional extent of one or of all of those regional formations on different plate reconstruction models of that desired age, and these polygons are filled with the lithologic facies pattern.

A variety of social movements across the world and the political spectrum are now taking advantage of peer production mechanisms such as collaboration, co-production, and self-organisation. This essay investigates the consequences of peer production for social protest, looking at how peer production reshuffles and remediates social change activism today. It explores the convergences and tensions between peer networks and contemporary social movements ranging from informal coalitions and amorphous grouping to traditional social movement organisations. First, it traces the historical trajectory of peer production as it has come to permeate the progressive social movements of the last three decades, linking distinct approaches to organizing to technological innovation. Second, it reflects on the so-called social affordances (and constraints) of digital infrastructure and their role in fostering specific modes of creativity and convergence apt to support protest actors. Third, it explores three types of consequences of peer production for social movements, namely cultural production and norm change, collective identity, and the commons. The chapter then examines three tensions that might emerge in the process of embedding peer production mechanisms and values in instances of collective action, namely: individual vs. collective engagements, peer networks vs. social movement organizations, and self-organized vs. commercial infrastructure.

An H- ion source is being operated at the new 160 MeV linear injector (Linac4) of the CERN accelerator complex. The source’s plasma is of the Radio Frequency Inductively Coupled Plasma type (RF-ICP), without magnetic cusp and runs with Cs-loss compensation [1]. Vertical downward oriented filter- and electron dump-dipolar magnetic fields expand over the plasma chamber, beam-formation, beam-extraction and electron dump regions and generate horizontal asymmetry and beam angular deflection partially compensated by mechanical alignment of the front-end. The H- beam is generated via volume and caesiated plasma surface modes, the latter inducing a radial asymmetry characterized by an increased current density close to the plasma electrode surface [2]. Asymmetries affecting the meniscus shape, or its current density have to be simulated via 3D Particle In Cell Monte Carlo (PIC-MC) solvers, such as the Orsay Negative Ion eXtraction code (ONIX) [3]. Validation of these simulations require dedicated measurements. This contribution describes experimental methods newly implemented at CERN’s ion source test stand and initial results for Optical and Beam Emission Spectroscopy (OES, BES), emittance and beam profile measurements. In a later stage, the gathered data sets can be compared to source plasma parameters and extracted beam parameters from PIC-MC simulations, once coupled to the Ion Beam Simulation (IBSimu) [4] beam transport code. The experimental parameter space includes RF-power, density of neutrals, position of the RF coil and extraction field. Beams of H-, D- and protons were produced; examples of measured data are presented in this contribution.

This chapter examines a series of productive tensions located in and around peer production. It begins by interrogating the meaning of infrastructure for peer-to-peer models, and find that some forms of peer infrastructure have thrived, whilst others were effectively banned. The chapter considers Yochai Benkler's influential theorization of “commons-based peer production,” and asks to what extent it embodies Western, first world assumptions. It explores at length the relationship of peer production to the dominant economy. The chapter outlines claims about peer production's transformational potential, which are inspired by Benkler's model and often imbued with techno-utopian overtones. It then focuses on the organizational and cultural characteristics which enabled co-optation by, and hybridization with firms. The chapter also focuses on peer production's political economy. It then provides an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book.

Peer production is commons-based and commons-oriented voluntary labor with participatory and transparent coordination. It decentralizes both goal setting and execution to networks of individuals. This chapter revisits the dual contribution of peer production to productive efficiency and to social justice. It then reflexively evaluates peer production as an object of study by mapping an online network of peer production researchers and activists and considers whether a field of “peer production studies” has emerged, and should emerge. Peer production principles have also cross-pollinated with collective action, contributing to the renovation of participation in social movements. The activist sector of the field of peer production also features heterogenous clusters of peer production practitioners: software hackers, hardware hackers, biohackers, data justice activists, makers, Wikipedians, or feminist activists.

This chapter examines some of the practices which have rendered visible the analytical category of gender – and at times other categories such as race, class, and caste, which are often absent from the analysis of mainstream peer-production scholarship and practice. Having examined some of the main criticisms of peer production projects from the standpoint of feminist perspectives, it presents three case studies of feminist peer production. This discussion is in an attempt to make visible feminist peer production practices and better understand how they are put in practice. The three case studies are the following: the building and maintaining of feminist spaces, collectives, and servers; projects that address gender-based violence through peer production; and the ways in which speculative thinking is being mobilized by feminists to rethink technologies and their imaginaries. Feminist peer production has been used to map instances of sexual harassment in the streets and to make lists of sexual harassers public.

This chapter argues that significant social change is required to stave off climate destruction, and it makes the case that peer production can usefully contribute to necessary processes of “relocalization” and “degrowth.” The governance of peer produced projects, one of the central aspects of the studies of peer production, aspires to the self-regulation of participants in autonomous collectives. The chapter offers guiding principles and policy proposals which should not be read as fully-formed, but as the basis for discussions, and as needing to be combined with other initiatives and proposals, such as John Restakis’ public policy proposals for a social economy, and with the Commons Transition Platform more generally. At this point in time, a realistic assessment is that peer production's collaborative methods and ethic of transparency are – with the exception of FOSS – anecdotal both in economic and ecological terms.

How can we make sense of cultures of peer production, which exist in diverse national, cultural and language contexts, span several industries and domains, and comprise a range of different organizational structures? Peer production is commonly defined as a mode of production - that is, a social and material structure in which labor takes place. Specifically it is defined as a decentralized mode of production in which a group of participants collaborate on a common project (say, an operating system or an encyclopedia), and in which individuals self-select for specific parts of an overall project and generally volunteer their time (Benkler, 2002). Given this definition of peer production as a mode of production, it makes little sense to talk about a single culture – defined as a more-or-less shared set of values, expressed in a common identity and shared practices – much like it makes little sense to speak of the culture of factories or the culture of firms. In practice, however, there are certainly comparisons to be drawn between the values and practices commonly found in peer production projects, in particular in the well-known examples of Wikipedia and F/OSS production.

- Abstract
The role of social housing in Australia is changing. From a focus on government-led provision of housing for working-class families in the years following World War II, social housing is increasingly considered a safety net or an interim option for only the most vulnerable households. Government policy and rhetoric now focuses on encouraging tenants to move out as soon as their financial situation allows it. However, many households that leave public housing experience substantially higher levels of housing stress due to a lack of alternative secure and affordable housing options in the private market. A 34-unit development undertaken by a private developer in Melbourne, Australia, presents a model to address this problem. The development, entitled the Melbourne Apartment Project (MAP), uses a developer-provided ‘advance’ to allow current social housing occupants to reduce their initial financial outlay. This paper provides insights from nine interviews undertaken with MAP purchasers who have moved out of public housing estates in inner-Melbourne. The research identifies experiences of home, the ‘push’ and ‘pull’ factors that influenced the decision to move out of public housing and the experiences of stress, pride, security and pragmatism as expressed by these households.

History ,17th century ,Italy ,Painters ,Biographers - Abstract
This thesis explores Baglione's contributions to art and to the history of art by examining the nature of his artistic and critical originality and the significant influences thereon. In the work for which he is best known, Le Vite... (1642), Baglione was an interesting and generous critic who was unusually receptive to pictorial effects, even when in architecture and sculpture. He assesses Caravaggio's accomplishments with well chosen observations thereby breaking his restriction to discuss only accessible works of art. A broad view of his paintings and drawings shows Baglione's complex, original and thoughtful voyage of discovery assisted by the intelligence with which he absorbed artistic influences, particularly from Raphael and the Cavalier d'Arpino. His refined style of drawing distances him from Caravaggio. In paintings from the first decade, light and shadow give form to graceful figures enveloped in voluminous garments. After 1610 the compositions become more inventive and increasingly Baroque. Baglione's attempt to make a synthesis out of ideal generalization and naturalistic description and to explore new subject matter constituted a search for a "maniera propria" that combined stylistic originality with a penchant for unusual iconography. The most important trends in Baglione's draughtsmanship are the tendency towards a broader, freer handling and the versatility with which he handles the technical means at his disposal. Though he often crosses over the line into the Baroque, the idealism of his Tusco-Roman formation and fondness for angular lines constrain him from fully yielding to a dynamic disposition. His very personal style can be seen in a number of drawings from the 1620s and 1630s that attain a remarkable pictorial aspect and a Baroque quality of sensual presence. His sophisticated use of the three chalk technique prefigures the form dissolving effects to be popularized by Watteau. At the same time, the defining contour line that emphasizes integrity is not abandoned.

- Abstract
The Banff Working Group on Liver Allograft Pathology reviewed and discussed literature evidence regarding antibody-mediated liver allograft rejection at the 11th (Paris, France, June 5-10, 2011), 12th (Comandatuba, Brazil, August 19-23, 2013), and 13th (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, October 5-10, 2015) meetings of the Banff Conference on Allograft Pathology. Discussion continued online. The primary goal was to introduce guidelines and consensus criteria for the diagnosis of liver allograft antibody-mediated rejection and provide a comprehensive update of all Banff Schema recommendations. Included are new recommendations for complement component 4d tissue staining and interpretation, staging liver allograft fibrosis, and findings related to immunosuppression minimization. In an effort to create a single reference document, previous unchanged criteria are also included.

- Abstract
© 2015 Elsevier Ltd. Objective: To analyze the clinimetric properties of maximal aerobic and anaerobic fitness measurement protocols in adults with cerebral palsy (CP). Data Sources: A systematic search through March 2015 of databases PubMed, Embase, SPORTDiscus and PsycINFO was performed with medical subject heading terms for 'cerebral palsy' combined with search terms adults or adolescents and multiple text words for fitness and exercise tests that yielded 864 articles. Study Selection: Abstracts were screened by two reviewers to identify use of maximal fitness measurements in adolescents (14-18. yrs) or adults (>18. yrs) with CP of all abilities. Ninety-four articles were reviewed. No studies of adolescent (14-18. yrs) qualified. Eight articles reported clinimetric properties for adults with CP who walk or propel a wheelchair independently. Five articles reported on aerobic capacity, one reported on anaerobic capacity and two reported on both. Data Extraction: Methodological quality of the studies was rated using portions of the COSMIN (COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health status Measurement INstruments) checklist. Quality of the measurement protocols was evaluated based on statistical strength of the clinimetrics. Synthesis of the overall evidence was based on the Cochrane review group guidelines which combine methodological quality and statistical strength. Data Synthesis: Eight articles reported on 4 aerobic and 1 anaerobic protocols. Overall synthesis revealed that for ambulatory adults with CP there is (i) moderate evidence for good reliability and good construct validity of maximal aerobic and anaerobic cycle tests, (ii) moderate evidence for good criterion validity of sub-maximal aerobic cycle tests, and (iii) strong evidence for poor criterion validity of the six-minute walk test as a maximal aerobic test. And for adults who propel a wheelchair there is limited evidence of good reliability for maximal aerobic wheelchair ergometer tests

Since 2010 the GTS-LHC source delivers lead ions for heavy ion physics at the LHC. Several modifications allowed the improvement the source reliability and the beam stability. The attempts to improve the beam intensity were less successful. The different modifications and actual performance figures will be presented in this paper. In addition to the heavy ion physics program of the LHC new ion species will be requested for different experiments in the future. The fixed target experiment NA61 requires primary argon and xenon beams. And a future biomedical facility asks for light ions in the range helium to neon. Approaches to prepare these beams and to modify the ion injector towards a light ion front end are presented.

Physical therapy -- Research - Abstract
PURPOSE: Health care for children with special health care needs (CSHCN) often includes a complex array of services. Access to rehabilitation services, durable medical equipment (DME), and medical technology has become more challenging for these children and their families. The primary purpose of this study was to describe families' experiences with access to these services for their CSHCN. SUBJECTS: The national database from the Family Partners Project (FPP) was used in this study. This database contains responses from over 2000 families across 20 states on the questionnaire: "Your Voice Counts! The Health Care Experiences of Families of Children with Special Health Care Needs." The FPP was conducted between 1997-2000 and is a collaborative enterprise between Family Voices and the Heller School of Social Policy at Brandeis University. METHODS AND MATERIALS: A questionnaire was developed to obtain information on a variety of topics related to health services for CSHCN. The final version contains 89 items. A mail survey was conducted to obtain data. ANALYSES: Descriptive statistics were generated to describe the sample and to identify problems in access to services. RESULTS: The mean age for children was 9 years (sd=4.6 years) and for parents was 39.3 years (sd=8.4 years). A majority of the children were male (58%) and Caucasian (71%). Parents' mean rating of their children's overall health was "good" and most (41%) reported their children's health conditions as "somewhat stable." Of the children needing therapy, nearly 40% (n=621) had problems with services. Of the 52% of respondents who reported that their child needed DME or medical technology, 8% were dissatisfied and 8% said their children needed but did nut get these services. The most frequently reported children's conditions were: developmental delay (52%), cerebral palsy (29%), and orthopedic or behavior problems (28% each). Children with any of these four conditions had poorer overall health ratings than children without these conditions. Parents of children with developmental delay most frequently reported problems with therapy services (67%) and DME (59%) for their children followed by parents of children with cerebral palsy (41% and 53%, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: This study provides valuable information for physical therapists about the challenges of access to rehabilitation services for CSHCN and their families. Findings from this study will help physical therapists become more effective providers of family-focused care and more informed advocates for CSHCN and their families., O'Neil M. Parenting -- Psychological aspects ,Mother and child -- Psychological aspects ,Stress (Psychology) -- Analysis - Abstract
PURPOSE: The primary purpose of this study was to identify predictors of parenting stress for mothers of children receiving early intervention physical therapy based on specific child and early intervention program factors. Another purpose was to examine the relationship between mothers' parenting stress levels and their perceptions of family-centered early intervention physical therapy. Also, the relationship between mothers' levels of parenting stress and their overall satisfaction with early intervention physical therapy was examined. PARTICIPANTS: Eighty mother-child dyads were randomly sampled and participated in the study. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Home visits were conducted for data collection. Mothers completed: 1) the Measures of Processes of Care Questionnaire (MPOC-56) providing information on mothers' perceptions of family-centered early intervention physical therapy on five subscales; 2) The Mother's Questionnaire providing demographic information and overall satisfaction scores; and 3) the Parenting Stress Index-Short Form (PSI-SF) providing information on three stress subscales. ANALYSES: Three hierarchical multiple regression analyses (MRAs) were conducted to identify predictors of stress for each PSI-SF subscale. Pearson correlations were calculated: 1) to examine relationships between PSI-SF and MPOC-56 subscale scores and 2) to examine the relationship between PSI-SF subscale scores and overall satisfaction scores. RESULTS: MRA results indicated that mothers' perceptions of their children's limitations explained a significant amount of variance in their stress on two PSI-SF subscales: Parent-Child Dysfunctional Interaction (r2=.21, p [is less than] .001) and Difficult Child (r2=.11, p [is less than] .003). Correlation analyses indicated significant and inverse relationships between four MPOC-56 subscale scores and the PSI-SF on the Difficult Child subscale. One significant correlation analysis was found between parent satisfaction and parenting stress on the Difficult Child subscale (r2= -.31, p [is less than] .01). CONCLUSION: Findings suggest that mothers' perceptions of their children's limitations are significant predictors of child-related stress while correlation results suggest that family-centered early intervention physical therapy may be a protective factor for child-related stress., This study was partially funded by the Department of Health and Human Services, Maternal and Child Health Bureau, Grant No. MCJ429391 and a Doctoral Dissertation Research Award from the Foundation [...]

Botox (Medication) -- Evaluation -- Product/service Evaluations ,Cerebral palsied -- Medical examination ,Statistical services -- Standards -- Evaluation -- Product/service Evaluations ,Health ,Evaluation ,Standards ,Medical examination - Abstract
Purpose: The purposes of this report are to: 1) describe the development of a data collection method for use with children receiving Botox injections in the Spasticity Management Clinic(SMC) of a pediatric rehabilitation hospital and 2) present descriptive data. Description: A physiatrist and physical therapist evaluate Children referred to the SMC. A new method was developed by clinic physical therapists to document changes in children following Botox injections. Revisions are ongoing and current documentation includes: Gross Motor Function Classification System for Cerebral Palsy (GMFCS); goniometric range of motion(ROM); spasticity (Ashworth); functional mobility (by clinical observations); and ease of caregiving (by family report). Observations: Data collection over the past 10 months indicates that 17 children, ages 2-15 years (mean = 9) have received lower extremity Botox injections and attended a follow-up appointment. GMFCS levels classified 47% of children into Levels IV and V and only 12% into Level I. A majority of children (71%) were diagnosed with cerebral palsy. One or combinations of the following muscles were injected: hip adductors, hamstrings, and gastrocsoleus. Nine injection patterns were identified with bilateral hamstrings (n=5, 29%) being the most common. Children were measured pre-injection and at follow-up (2-4 weeks post injection). ROM changes were found in ankle dorsiflexion (mean = 9 ° - 11 °) and popliteal angle (mean = 9 ° - 13 °). Ashworth scores on 10 of 12 children indicated decreased spasticity. Functional mobility changes were documented for two children on standing, level gait, and stairs. Parents reported improved ease of caregiving for children in Levels IV and V. All children received physical therapy pre and post injections. Conclusions: Only the impairment level measures were sensitive to change. The clinic documentation method was not sensitive to functional and family outcomes. Currently, more systematic measures are being investigated including the Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM) for functional outcomes and the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) for family outcomes. A questionnaire is being developed to document changes in physical therapy intervention (frequency, duration, type) associated with Botox injections., Fragala M, Russo K, Dumas H, O'Neil M, Rabin J; Department of Physical Therapy, Franciscan Children's Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, Boston, MA, USA [...]

- Abstract
Objective: To systematically evaluate the level of evidence of the clinimetric properties of measures of aerobic and anaerobic capacity used for children with cerebral palsy (CP). Data Sources: A systematic search of databases PubMed, Embase, SPORTDiscus, and PsycINFO through April 2011 was performed. Study Selection: Two independent raters identified and examined studies that reported laboratory- or field-based measures of maximal aerobic or anaerobic capacity in children with CP aged 5 to 14 years. Data Extraction: The COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health status Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) checklist was used by 2 independent raters to evaluate the methodologic quality of the included clinimetric studies and to identify measures used in these studies. Data Synthesis: Twenty-four studies that used a maximal aerobic or anaerobic capacity measure were identified. Five studies reported clinimetric properties for 5 measures (2 aerobic and 3 anaerobic measures). Methodologic quality was excellent in 3 studies, showing good validity and reliability of field-based aerobic (Shuttle Run Test) and anaerobic (Muscle Power Sprint Test) measures. The studies on laboratory-based measures were rated fair, mainly because of inadequate statistics. The level of evidence was strong for good validity and reliability of the field-based tests. The level of evidence was unknown for validity and low to moderate for good reliability of laboratory-based tests. Conclusions: There is a paucity of research on the clinimetric properties of measurement instruments to assess aerobic and anaerobic capacity for children with CP. Further clinimetric studies of laboratory-based measures in children with CP at all Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) levels, and clinimetric studies of field-based measures in children who are classified as GMFCS levels III to V are required. © 2013 American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine.

- Abstract
Patients with clinical manifestations of leishmaniasis, including cutaneous leishmaniasis, have limited treatment options, and existing therapies frequently have significant untoward liabilities. Rapid expansion in the diversity of available cutaneous leishmanicidal chemotypes is the initial step in finding alternative efficacious treatments. To this end, we combined a low-stringency Leishmania major promastigote growth inhibition assay with a structural computational filtering algorithm. After a rigorous assay validation process, we interrogated ∼200,000 unique compounds for L. major promastigote growth inhibition. Using iterative computational filtering of the compounds exhibiting >50% inhibition, we identified 553 structural clusters and 640 compound singletons. Secondary confirmation assays yielded 93 compounds with EC50s ≤ 1 μM, with none of the identified chemotypes being structurally similar to known leishmanicidals and most having favorable in silico predicted bioavailability characteristics. The leishmanicidal activity of a representative subset of 15 chemotypes was confirmed in two independent assay formats, and L. major parasite specificity was demonstrated by assaying against a panel of human cell lines. Thirteen chemotypes inhibited the growth of a L. major axenic amastigote-like population. Murine in vivo efficacy studies using one of the new chemotypes document inhibition of footpad lesion development. These results authenticate that low stringency, large-scale compound screening combined with computational structure filtering can rapidly expand the chemotypes targeting in vitro and in vivo Leishmania growth and viability.

Each concept in the surgical operations chapter of the Read Thesaurus has been analysed to determine its anatomical site component. The underlying structure of this chapter and its relationship to the anatomy chapter are explored. The defined anatomical sites have been included as atomic maps in the Read Code template table, one of the key component files of the Thesaurus, relevant features of which are described. The analysis methodology is outlined and the value of an anatomically characterised surgical procedure terminology is discussed together with the implications of semantically defining a wider range of characteristics of surgical procedures.

- Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To describe the management of asthma in children in a remote indigenous community and the delivery of subspecialist service through the indigenous health-care model. METHODOLOGY: Children referred by indigenous health-care workers were evaluated prospectively by paediatric respiratory physicians, based on a standardized protocol, at a primary health care setting at Thursday Island, Queensland. RESULTS: Forty of the 54 children referred with a provisional diagnosis of asthma did have asthma, with 30% having persistent asthma. Only 59% of parents knew the dose of the medication prescribed and 80% had minimal knowledge of the medications. In 88% of children, the management of asthma was improved by introduction of an appropriate spacer device and changing the dose and type of medications. CONCLUSIONS: The management of children with asthma in the Torres region can be improved substantially by the use of age appropriate delivery devices and medications, and improving knowledge of asthma. Specialist delivery service to remote indigenous communities can be effectively delivered in partnership with the indigenous health service. The high proportion of persistent asthma in the Torres Straits community in comparison to urbanised Australia raises issues of inequity of appropriate medical service delivery to remote indigenous communities.

- Abstract
A 12‐day course of high‐dose tacrolimus induces tolerance of major histocompatibility complex–mismatched lung allografts in miniature swine but does not induce tolerance of heart allografts unless a kidney is cotransplanted. To determine whether lungs share with kidneys the ability to induce cardiac allograft tolerance, we investigated heart–lung cotransplantation using the same induction protocol. Hearts (n = 3), heart–kidneys (n = 3), lungs (n = 6), and hearts–lungs (n = 3) were transplanted into fully major histocompatibility complex–mismatched recipients treated with high‐dose tacrolimus for 12 days. Serial biopsy samples were used to evaluate rejection, and in vitroassays were used to detect donor responsiveness. All heart–kidney recipients and five of six lung recipients demonstrated long‐term graft survival for longer than 272 days, while all heart recipients rejected their allografts within 35 days. Tolerant recipients remained free of alloantibody and showed persistent donor‐specific unresponsiveness by cell‐mediated lympholysis/mixed‐lymphocyte reaction. In contrast, heart–lung recipients demonstrated rejection of both allografts (days 47, 55, and 202) and antidonor responsiveness in vitro. In contrast to kidneys, lung cotransplantation leads to rejection of both heart and lung allografts, indicating that lungs do not have the same tolerogenic capacity as kidneys. We conclude that cells or cell products present in kidney, but not heart or lung allografts, have a unique capacity to confer unresponsiveness on cotransplanted organs, most likely by amplifying host regulatory mechanisms. Lungs, unlike kidneys, do not induce cardiac allograft tolerance, suggesting that a cell or cell product unique to the kidney confers unresponsiveness upon cotransplanted organs.

The article focuses on a study which aims to examine the estrogenic potential of the phytoestrogen secoisolariciresinol diglycoside (SDG) in linseed meal (LSM) on uterine cell proliferation, vascularity, and angiogenic factor mRNA expression and vascularity of the uterus in ovariectomized ewes. LSM. Cell proliferation within the uterine luminal epithelium is discussed. It reveals that growth and angiogenesis of estradiol sensitive tissues may be determined by the duration of LSM feeding.
